App removal on N97

I have recently had to reset my N97, and, having done so, I can't get the home screen VoIP status/login tool to work - it's just grey.
In order to free up some space on my phone, which I think has been the root of my problem, I was thinking of removing some applications from the phone - those which are removable but are not ones I use - to see if that helps before going to a care point for assistance.
However, I am not sure if the app manager is fully "dependency aware". Will it warn me if I try to remove an app on which another depends?
(BTW I still cannot make SIP calls over 3G with it - though it does work on my old N95 - I have another thread open for that and hope the next N97 update fixes it.)

It only warns that all associated content with this application will be removed but does not specify which are these... so a bit tricky...But as far as I have experienced, I have done this n no. of times (un-installed applications that I am sure have installed... repeat, I have installed) and it did not affect my phone in anyways..

    Hello agerveler,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like we may need to do a complete removal of iTunes and its components, followed by a reinstall.  Follow the instructions in the following article to resolve your issue:

  • I purchaseed an app monotoricamera but i cant find this application and this app removed from iTunes store what can i do for this problem?

i purchaseed an app monotoricamera but i cant find this application and this app removed from iTunes store what can i do for this problem? when i use report problem in purchase history " say to me this app is removed and i pay for that

Well, if you didn't keep it in your iTunes library, on your computer, & then back that data up, you're out of luck if it's no longer available in the App store.
Apple warns to backup your purchases for this very reason.

  • What is the safest app remover for OS X ?

What is the safest app remover for OS X  (Yosemite) ?

So I then assume that you want to know when removal app can figure out if another app installed any malware and if so, then remove it? Of if not, just remove "all" the pieces associated with the app?
    Is that your "wish"?
If so, I doubt that is gonna be possible. People are pretty clever about how to get bogus software installed as part of another app that appears to be OK, so think it's gonna come down to having somebody else, just as clever hopefully, maybe even more clever, to figure out what exactly is part of an app and then how to remove all of it's pieces. Stick with installing reputable software from the App Store or reputable developers - then you don't need to worry so much about malware.
The two apps that Eric Root referred to are popular. I use one called "AppCleaner 2". I've used AppZapper but not AppDelete. Between AppZapper and AppCleaner I prefer the latter cause it shows you the exact path of the items it's about to delete where AppZapper just shows the name (not the path which is very important I think), plus AppCleaner seems to do a more thorough job at finding more files pertaining to the app you're trying to get rid of. For example here is what AppZapper and AppCleaner show when removing the same app named AppleWadministrator:
So AppCleaner found two other files that AppZapper didn't and it shows the paths of all items that it wants to delete.
But like Eric Root also said - double check all the files that the app cleaner is gonna delete and make sure they make sense.
Another thing that has helped me many times is to take a screenshot of the app cleaner window - this lets you have a record of the files that were deleted for a particular app (and also the path it came from for AppCleaner but not for App Zapper) so in case you need to recover things from the trash later you know where they should be moved back to.
Not sure if the "AppDelete" Eric Root referred to is the "AppDelete Lite" in the App Store or not, but if it is, it's $3.99. AppZapper costs $12.95 (but I'v seen it for about half that in MacUpdate promos) and AppCleaner is free, but they can't be obtained from App Store, but from the developers website. Also the "AppDelete Lite" hasn't been updated since May 2014, so it's not clear if it supports Yosemite or not. There is a version called "AppDelete" from the same developer as the "AppDelete Lite" so they must be similar. The AppDelete says it's $7.99 on the developer web site at (but apparently not available on the App Store) and they also have a free trial for the "AppDelete" version. Apparently the main difference between the two versions of AppDelete and AppDelete Lite, is the Lite version can't remove password-protected files to the trash because "App Store apps cannot ask for passwords" according to the developer website at http://www.reggieashworth.com/appdeletelite - the user must do the removal manually with the Lite version but not the full version.
I just checked RoaringApps website for OS X compatibility and:
AppCleaner -- works on version 10.6 thru 10.10 (Snow Leopard thru Yosemite)
AppDelete -- works on version 10.7 thru 10.9 (Lion thru Mavericks)
AppZapper -- works on version 10.6 thru 10.10 (Snow Leopard thru Yosemite)
AppZapper can be found at http://www.appzapper.com
AppCleaner can be found at http://www.freemacsoft.net
So maybe Eric Root has some experience and could compare AppDelete with AppCleaner and say if AppDelete is worth paying $8 for the full version or $4 for the Lite version or if AppCleaner for free has some deficiencies compared to AppDelete.
    Good luck...

  • Week Cal HD app removed from App Store because it is too similar to the build in calendar - what is your take?

Apple apparently removed the Week Cal HD app from the App Store becuase it is too similar to the build in calendar app. I loved that app and am really annoyed that Apple removes an app I paid for, thus making it impossible for the developer to post an update that would allow it to work under OS5. I just posted this email below to their support but would love to hear what others are thinking about this issue and hopefully enough people raise their voice to get apple to allow the app back into the store. Here is my email to customer support. I will post also any reply I get Apple:
    Customer Support,
I have purchased Week Cal HD a while back via the App Store. This app stopped working after I upgraded to OS5 and I have been waiting for a new version that supports it. Since no update was posted until now I contacted the developer and have been informed that Apple has removed the app from the app store, claiming it has too many similarities with the build in calendar application.
I find this very unfortunate as the app as a few key features the build in calender application doesn't have (ability to set first day of the week to Monday, better looking UI). I actually find it deeply troubeling that Apple decides to effectively take away an app a customer has purchased through Apple. I find the argument that it has been removed because it is too similar to the build in calendar highly disingenious as a) this was already the case when Apple first sold it through the app store and b) it doesn't harm Apple's business as the build in calendar app is an OS feature and not a separate revenue stream. So what if it is similar? It does something the build in software doesn't and I paid to access this software knowing that it is a product that provides similar funcitonality. Quiet frankly I loved Week Cal HD because of these subtle differences and I cringe every time I now have to use the build in calendar (I find it unbelieveable that a company with the design ethos of Apple, that is capable of developing such stunning modern hardware, creates a calendar app that is so inflexible and has a UI that is in such bad taste - do you really think I want a simulated paper feel on my futuristic IPad?).
I very much encourage you to allow the sale of Week Cal HD through the App store again or provide me with a reason why Apple decided to effectively take away a software I paid for?
    Thanks,
    Nico
PS: If this is the wrong contact optinos for this complaint please let me know where to direct it otherwise."

    You might find this interesting
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1270715
And i think with further digging you will discover that the developer has had a revised app for many many months ready but its been blocked by apple. Also these similar features that are causing the fuss first existed on week cal hd, not the other way around, sovthis is just usual apple style, and its a bigger shame that they could not even exucute it properly, instead we are stuck withva calendar that cant be used for business unless all you want to do is keep track of birthdays and your lunch breaks ....

Angle Bar Solutions Movie Maker app for the iPhone is being miss-sold.
It is advertised as having Time-Lapse capabilities but it does not have these.

  • How do I lock down an iPad from having certain apps removed?

    Hello,
We are a Microsoft-based enterprise that has purchased iPad 2 devices as a means of reducing costs of wireless services as well as integration with the 3G adapter (to reduce damage and theft). While I have had great success with the iPhone Configuration Utility and an MDM server, I need to ensure that users cannot remove the Find My iPad App which we use to track employees and ensure they do not lose or steal the device (since they can't remove the battery).
What can I do to lock down this app from being removed and also, I want to give these employees access to load whatever they wish on these iPad units. We control their access through a VPN to a Microsoft Terminal Server and with Microsoft Exchange but I don't want iTunes and the CEO's credit card being used to purchase apps. Any ideas anyone? I know that this can be done and if not, it will be done by me.

I'm not sure about the apps, but to prevent theft, you'll also need to disable the power button and the ability to restore the ipad. You might also want to superglue in your Sim card because if they remove that, it wont be tracked unless they connect to WiFi.
Also, I'm not so sure it is an app on the iPad. I think it is built into the mail, calendar and contacts options if you have a Mobile me account.  http://www.apple.com/ipad/find-my-ipad-setup/

  • Apps removed but still showing up in Creative Cloud App. How do I reinstall them?

After installing several apps on my laptop, After Effects, which I use for my business, wouldn't function on my desktop. I didn't know that you had to turn off the creative cloud connection on one computer before going to the other. Since I needed to deliver my projects, I removed the apps on my laptop. Three of them didn't seem to have an uninstall button on them. It didn't show up for some reason for - After Effects, Acrobat XI Pro, and Illustrator. I tried to find all references to them and finally threw every reference to them I could find into the trash. I must have left something in my system still because in the Creative Cloud menu, it shows that I still have those apps on my laptop still and that they are up to date. However, as I said, I threw everything that had to do with those apps that I could find in the trash.
There doesn't seem to be any way to reload these three apps in the Creative Cloud app and since they are no longer in my Applications folder (I'm on a Mac) there is no way to uninstall or do anything else.
How can I clear out the piece of software that thinks these three apps are still installed so that I can reinstall fresh versions? Thanks.

Run the cleaner tool and reinstall.

  • Are apps removed from app store when DPS contract expires?

My company is debating on whether to renew our DPS contract and the question has come up whether or not once our contract expires, will the apps we've created so far using DPS be removed from the app store since we would no longer be subscribing to their services? Or will they still be available for purchase on the app store?

The apps won't disappear unless your Apple Developer account is
canceled. If they're Single Edition you're okay. If they're
subscription, nothing will be available for download.

  • Mail.app- 'Remove Attachments' corrupting mails

I have a weird issue that I've not seen mentioned anywhere. Wondering if anyone can give me any debugging tips.
I'm using Mail 5.0 in Lion 10.6.1 (issue was occurring in 10.6.0 as well).
I have Mail connected to Exchange Server 2010.
I have a fairly tight restriction on mailbox sizes so I have to remove attachments from emails before I file them.
My problem is this; about 1 in 3 times I remove an attachment the 'replacement' e-mail is full of gibberish characters.
Typically if I look at the raw source of the e-mail then the text version of the mail is retained correctly- it seems to be the Base64 encoded version that is corrupted.
Any idea what I can do to debug this? I have tried removing the envelope files and removing/adding the account back in and re-syncing it but the issue has reappeared.
I've reported this to Apple on http://bugreports.apple.com but have not had a response.
    Thanks in advance.

Edward- do you mean Entourage mailbox or Exchange mailbox? i.e. are you using mail.app or Entourage/outlook as your mail client?
    Assuming you meant Exchange mailbox on mail.app, the steps you would take are simple;
    1- Save attachments
In the mail, click the 'Save' button (next to the 'Quicklook' button) to save all attachments to your normal folder (this folder is changeable in the settings- the default is to save to your 'Downloads' folder).
2- Move the mail to a local mailbox.
If you don't already have a local mailbox then select Menu: Mailbox/New Mailbox... and in the dialog box select 'On my Mac' to save the mailbox locally instead of on the Exchange server.
To move the message you select menu: Message/Move to... and select the local mailbox
    3- Remove attachments
View the local mailbox, select the message you moved in there and do menu: Message/Remove Attachhments
(I have added a keyboard shortcut for this as I do it a lot)
Because it's a local mailbox the message should be stripped of its attachments without corruption.
    4- File the message
Now that the message has been stripped of the attachments, file the message in whatever mailbox you want with menu: Message/Move to...
    Hope this helps.

  • App removed from App Store

My application has been recently removed from the iTunes App Store.  How do I get my app back on the App Store for purchase?

Ask apple. Nobody here could tell you WHY the app is removed. Only Apple could do so.

Several apps including Yelp, London Tube, and other purchased apps were removed from my phone the last time I did a sync with iTunes with the message that a newer iPhone version was required. • N8: Vodafone UK 360 Update Unremovable App - Remov...

I'm writing this mainly for the UK vodafone forum. but it might be useful to one or two people here.
    Background:
Those of you who routinely delete the operator tat installed on your phone will have noticed that the app Vodafone 360 Update can not be removed. the uninstaller fails and displays a blank message.
I'm concerned about this app because it has the ability to launch itself, install other applications, access all your data, access the cameras etc. once an app has the power to change it's own code and without any interaction it's basically a rootkit.
additionally the app comes with terms and conditions, they are viewable within the application. But since the application comes pre-installed, runs itself and you can't uninstall it you don't have chance to review the terms. They are meaningless at the same time as important.
I've been after removing the app for a while, I'd not seen it launch itself until last night when i was driving and using it as sat nav. App has to go. so instead of doing what i usually do in bed i played with my phone.
    What you need:
You need a decent file browser, one that allows access above that of the phone's browser. I used Y-Browser. A self signed version is available free from the developer's site:
    http://www.drjukka.com/YBrowser.html
I'm sure X-Plore would work aswell, or any of the many other file browsers, just NOT the one built into the phone.
    Method:
the method is simple once you know the working directory of the app.
1 - use your 3rd party file browser to navigate to c:\system\data\ see the directory 'hugocl' delete or rename this.
2 - the app should now uninstall normally settings - application manager - installed applications - Vodafone 360 update, long press and uninstall.
    What i did:
I obviously didn't know the method when i started. so after i removed the working directory i ran 360 update. it started to repair itself over the ubiquitous WAP connection. when i realised this i killed the process with Y-Tasks. i then uninstalled it in the normal way.

There's no dignity in begging for kudos. Do it for the karma.

it's just nonesense isn't it. if vodafone spent the money they spend on messing up your phone on doing what they were supposed to do they'd have a lovely network.
it takes up 6meg of relatively premium c: drive spave too.
I won't ever buy anything from them whilst they keep installing tat on my phone. it's like people who put fliers under the wipers on my car. flier goes in the bin and the company goes on the list.
