App.server load balancing for SAP System with 1 PS

Hi,
In SAP CPS 7.0 (Build M26.12) I have a SAP system with Central Instance + 10 App.servers, but all instances are managed by 1 ProcessServer.
After activating the "App.server load balancing" setting in SAP system definition the application servers are becoming visible in CPS with their load factors (number of BGD wp's on app.servers) and load numbers (number of active jobs on app.servers).
This is so far fine, but the additional functionality is not working as I would expect, I have issues with 2 functionalities:
1. Based on documentation after activating also the XAL connection the CPS should submit the job on app.server with best performance based on XAL monitoring data filling the TARGET_SERVER parameter.
This functionality is not working for me at all
2. A useful functionality after activating the "App.server load balancing" setting is that the ProcessServer is going to "Overloaded" status when all BGD wp's of SAP system are occupied, thus restricting submitting new jobs during overload situation. But I had an issue also with this functionality, after SAP system recovery from overload situation, the CPS still remained in Overload status (so no new jobs were submitted).
As a workaround I had increased the treshold values for loads on all app.servers for this SAP system, what was fine for several days, but after a while I believe this was a reason of unexpected performance issues in CPS, therefore I have deactivated the 'App.server load balancing" setting at all for this ProcessServer.
I would appreciate your feedbacks with this functionality.
Thanks and Regards,
Ernest Liczki

Hi Preetish,
This connect string option is to loadbalance RFC connections. These are balanced upon login, once you are connected to a particular application server (AS) you stay on that server until you reconnect.
Since CPS uses multiple RFC connections, this will result in the connections being distributed over the available AS resources which is fine as long as they are generally evenly loaded. If you have certain AS hosts that are continuosly more loaded than the rest, then you probably don't want the CPS RFC connections to end up on these servers.
The original question is about loadbalancing of batch jobs over the available AS resources, and this is done independent of the RFC connection load balancing. Even if all CPS RFC connections are pinned to the DB/CI host, you can still loadbalance jobs over the available SAP AS hosts, either by using SAPs builtin balancing, or the CPS algorithm by activating the checkbox as indicated in the first entry in this thread.
Finally, to reply to Ernest's question: I believe there are some fixes on the app load balancing in the latest release, M26.17 should be available on the SWDC now.
Regards,
Anton.

  • Load balancing for SAP R3 through ITS for EP .

    Dear All
We are using ITS bease SAP R3 iviews in EP ..The landscape is as follows
    EP --> ITS --> SAP R3 .
We need to configure a load balancing from EP to R3. Currently the ITS is set to hit one Application server on SAP r3 . How do i configure load balancing in EP for R3 .
Even if we use the Load Balancing Iview, it does not prompt to enter SAP R3 Application servers in the EP Load balancing iview properties.
all it asks is the ITS server and SAP server for connectors.
    Regards
    Jayesh

Please do the following steps to accomplish load balancing. It includes both ITS definition and system definition.
    ITS Definition:
System definition alone will not help. Because you are using ITS to access SAP R/3. ITS uses global.srvc file to access SAP R/3 system.
When you install ITS you have option to choose connection with SAP R/3. You have two options here.
    1) Message server with load balancing
    2) Application server.
If you choose option 1, you will have load balancing on SAP R/3 using ITS.

  • DBACOCKPIT Connection for SAP systems with SAP Router

    Hello!
We are trying to integrate all the remote SAP systems and their databases (primarily Oracle) into DBACOCKPIT of SAP Solution Manager 7.1.
Our SAP Solution Manager is running on Windows with Oracle 11.2.0.2
The most SAP systems (Unix and Windows) can only be reached from SAP Solution Manger over the SAP Router connection.
It means no direct ping from Solution Manager server to the Server of managed system will work.
    Question
Is it possible to integrate such SAP systems (with SAP Router) into DBACOCKPIT of Solution Manager?
According to sap note 1265134 only the DBCON-connection will be required.
By doing so (tcode SOLMAN_SETUP), we get TNS errors.
Do we miss some additional steps (adapting tnsnames.ora of SOLMAN with the entry of managed system), etc.?
    Thank you!

Systems can be reached via SM59, then what's the problem ?
In fact, this 'is' the standard procedure. This is as normal as you could have Solution manager in same 'network' with rest of the remote systems.
Answer should be yes, you can manage several remote sap systems from sap solution manager dbacockpit.

  • Server load balancing for application access using multiple servers

1.what are the methods supported by cisco switches for load balancing
    2. I want to achive users to access 1 particular ip from different locations but phsically few servers which handle the application and data

well some servers allow you to install routing protocols on them. you could OSPF some links together.
or you could NLB if it is a microsoft server. this uses a heartbeat network, a virtual mac and an IP address bound to the vmac.
you could use NIC teaming. broadcom nics on dell servers allow you to configure them for loadbalancing, failover and a few other options.
or if the servers are mirrored using MSCS or something similar (i.e configured the same but independant) you could just load balance using DNS.
hope this helps. jsut some ideas quickly off the top of my head

  • CSM(content switching module) supports the 2 tier server load balance ?

    hi everyone,
Does any know the CSM support 2 tier server load balance ?
this means that CSM perform the server load balance for servers and the same servers require another time Server load balance. In the other word,
the CSM supports server port and client port for server load balance ?
    thanks
    fred.

Hi, this seems to describe a typical case of multi-tier design where the CSM needs to handle 2 types of connections:
    1. clients->CSM->serverfarm1
    2. serverfarm1->CSM->serverfarm2
We usually refer to the second type of connections as server-to-server load balanced traffic.
There is no problem in handling that scenario with the CSM and you have a few options.
In particular, each virtual server on the CSM can be configured to only accept incoming connections from a specific VLAN, so you can use that as an additional security measure or to distinguish connections based on which VLAN they come in from.
If you want to, you could even configure the CSM with 2 virtual servers with the same exact virtual IP and L4 port, but listening on 2 separate VLANs (the client-side VLAN and serverfarm1 VLAN) and use a different server farm based on that.
One important thing to keep in mind when handling server-to-server load balanced connections: if serverfarm1 and serverfarm2 are on the same VLAN, you have to configure "client NAT" for the server-to-server connections, to force the return traffic back to the CSM.

  • Trouble in a SAP system with load balancing

    Hello masters:
I had a trouble with workitems that came from a SAP system with load balancing. They doesn't receive the workitem ID in the UWL.
I created another system in the portal as a "dedicated application server", and made the necessary configuration in order to replace the first one, and then my workitems worked fine.
However, I would like to know what appened with the first system created as "system with load balancing". Why this system didn´t pass the workitem ID to the application (web dynpro abap) that execute the workitems?
    Thank you.

I hope there was some missing configuration in the first case which was not replicating the workitem from SAP Inbox to UWL.

  • Installing 2 Application server and 1 DB server and load balancing for 11i

    Hi,
I need info on how to install and configure load balancing for 11.5.8 on Win2000. The scenario: 1 db server DB, 2 apps/web/forms servers AP1 and AP2. Using rapid install you can only specify one db server A and one form server in multi node installations, right? How do I install the form server on AP2? Can I use the same config.txt? The computer name for AP2 is different.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Jagal

I have the very same issue. We want to install 4 web/form servers on a hardware load-balancer and the issue is we can only specify one forms server.
Does anyone know the secret bullet here?
    Thanks

  • Using ACE for proxy server load balancing

    Hello groups,
I wanted to know your experiences of using ACE for proxy server load balancing.
I want to load balance to a pool of proxy servers. Note: load-balancing should be based on the HTTP URL (i can't use source or dest. ip address) so that
a certain domain always gets "cached/forwarded" to the same proxy server. I don't really want to put matching
criteria in the configuration (such as /a* to S1, /b* to S2, /c* to S3,etc..), but have this hash calculated automatically.
Can the ACE compute its own hash based on the number of "online" proxy servers ? ie. when 4 servers are online, distribute domains between 1,2,3,4 evenly.
Should server 4 fail, recalculate hash so that the load of S4 gets distributed across the other 3 evenly. Also load-balancing domains of S1 ,S2 and S3 should not change if S4 fails.....
    regards,
    Geert

This is done with the following predictor command:
    Scimitar1/Admin# conf t
Enter configuration commands, one per line.  End with CNTL/Z.
    Scimitar1/Admin(config)# serverfarm Proxy
    Scimitar1/Admin(config-sfarm-host)# predictor hash ?
address         Configure 'hash address' Predictor algorithms
content         Configure 'hash http content' Predictor algorithms
cookie          Configure 'hash cookie' Predictor algorithms
header          Configure 'hash header' Predictor algorithm
layer4-payload  Configure 'hash layer4-payload' Predictor algorithms
url             Configure 'hash url' Predictor algorithm
    Scimitar1/Admin(config-sfarm-host)# predictor hash url
It does hash the url and the result takes into account the number of active proxies dynamically.
This command has been designed for this kind of scenario that you describe.
    Gilles.

  • Adapter Engine Load balancing for Messages HTTP SOA/SOE

    Greetings all,
We are currently implementing our SOE/SOA solution utilizing SAP services between a .Net Application.  Basically .Net -> PI -> ECC and back.
We are load testing the system and are now experiencing the CI getting overloaded.
We have upped the Thread Count (Thread Manager 350 and System Threads 120) and the Queue thread from 5 to 20.
We are using SOAP with Principal Propagation.
There is a hardware load balancer we are using which can spread the load between multiple application servers.  We modified the SLDRegistration host and ports (http/https) in Visual Administrator (SAP XI AF CPA Cache) in the global server node.
In SXI_CACHE Got -> Adapter Engine Cache, it displays http://<sidms>:<port>/MessagingSystem/receive/AFW/XI
Is this where the load balancer should be placed with the port name?
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Setting up Load Balancing for 11i for Intranet & Internet Access

Our current environment for 11i (11.5.5) is accessed only internally (via Intranet). We need to allow outside access (via Internet) also for self-service apps (ie. HR). Oracle Support/Metalink has stated that Load Balancing (note 148155.1) is the only supported method to have multiple (Apps Servers) systems access a single database. Could I get feedback from anyone who has implemented Load Balancing for 11i? Additionally if someone has implemented this for both intranet and internet access how has your company setup? Do the secondary server(s) from the Load Balancing note reside in the DMZ? And thus the primary app server and database reside inside the firewall? Thanks....

    Hi,
We are using 6 middle tiers for internal access for intranet access and 2 middle tiers in External DMZ with only web server running for Extrenal Access over Internet for Self Service.
You Implement one Load Balancer for first 6 internal Middle Tiers with site level profiles pointing to Internal .
You implement second Load balancer for external 2 middle tiers with server level profile options for these two servers pointing to External Load balancer .

  • Network load balancer for Agentry applications

    Hi Expert,
I'm going to implement a SAP Mobile Platform solution that will use an agentry application and I need some clarification about the HA configuration and the usage of the network load balancer and relay server. Just for information I'm going to use SMP 2.3 SP4.
My understanding is that Relay server is a reverse proxy and load balancer for SMP but It can't be used for the agentry applications. Is this correct?
Based on the standard configuration in order to balance the load of the client devices in the SMP cluster I have to use a Network load balancer, therefore the technical architecture of my solution should be the following:
    |Agentry Client device|   ---->  | Network Load Balancer |  ----> | SMP and Agentry Cluster| -----> |Back end systems|
Is this correct? I didn't find specifications about the Network load balancer.. Is there a list of the Network load balancer products supported from SAP for agentry application. Is there any best practice on the network load balancer?
Thank you in advance for you collaboration.

Because we don't test any directly with our QA we don't have have a preferred products.  Talking to our consulting group they normally just use what the customer already has installed in their network.   Both Software or hardware load balancers has been used.
The key part needed for the load balancer for Agentry 6.0.x and SMP 2.3 (not SMP 3) that it is set to TCP Pass through.

  • Reverse Proxy and Load Balancer for SMP 2.3 and Agentry Application

    Hi Expert,
I'm putting in place a mobile solution composed by SMP 2.3 SPS 4 and SAP ECC 6.0. In the SMP 2.3 I created the agentry server and I have deployed my agentry application.
My SMP/Agentry infrastructure is composed by two servers therefore I need a load balancer for balance the load into the several servers. Furthermore I need to use a reverse proxy in my DMZ zone.
Based on what indicated in the SAP note "1904213 - SAP Mobile Platform Server Release Information" the Apache Reverse Proxy is not supported for Agentry clients. Agentry uses nginx for Reverse Proxy.
I also found the following document How-to-Guide for Reverse Proxy and Load Balancing in SAP Mobile Platform 3.x that explain how to set-up a reverse proxy and load balancer with nginx and apache.
Both the SAP note and the HOW to document are refereed to SMP 3.0 and not to SMP 2.3.
I would know if the NGINX must be used also for SMP 2.3.
    Any suggestion/information is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

  • Server Load balancing issues

the servers are loadbalancing between the switches '3'
and '2' and the link between the two switches is blocked.
This link was forwarding before and thus any traffic going to the server was
send to the Servers correctly no matter on which switch they are active.
However after addition of another link in between the switches 'root'
and '1', the path cost to the root has decreased and thus the link
between the '2' and '3' is Blocking and the other link between
the '2' and '1' is Forwarding as it should be ideally. But
this would be creating an issue because the trafic coming from outside i.e.
through switch '1' to the server will be correctly send to the
server if the server NIC is active on the '3' because the Virtual MAC
addresses are binded accordinlgy. In case the server falls onto the other
NIC which is on the '2' the traffic won't be able to pass because the
MAC address is not binded on the trunk connecting the switches '1'
and '2'. This binding cannot be done because the same MAC address is
being learned on the another trunk on the '1' which is connecting
to 'root'. So if we bind the same Virtual MAC on two trunks on the same
switch ('1') then this will cause MAC Address Flapping on the
switch and hence canot be done.
In another case,we can able to bind virtuak MAC on two trunks on the same
    switch('1') and it's working fine.
The servers are load balancing in round robin fashion. each server has 2 NICs and work in Active-Passive mode. The servers load balance each other when all their active links are connected to '3' switch but when two of the active NICs of two servers are connected to '3' and the rest of the two active NICs from the other two servers are connected to '2' switch then only the forst 2 servers load balance and the other 2 servers do not load balance.
    Please help.
    Thanks in advance.

In my experience, server load balancing is one of the most difficult things to get going properly in a switched LAN environment. Switched LANs are designed so that one MAC address can only be bound to one switch port. Therefore, if you have two NICs with the same MAC address (real or virtual), then you will get flapping somewhere.
I have seen various ways that the manufacturers try to get around this limitation of switched LANs. For example, one technique I have seen, practiced by ISA Server, is to use a multicast MAC address for the service so that frames go to both exit ports. But that does not always work well unless you tweak the network to acommodate it.
What sort of servers are they, and what system is used for the load balancing?

  • Load Balancing For OIM servers in hyper V

    Hi All,
I am very new to load balancing. I am trying to implement load balanceing in our current production setup.
Our current production setup is as below:
    Virtualization Platform : Hyper V
    Guest OS : RedHat Linux
OIM server : Two OIM servers in clustered mode without any load balancer
As we don't have any load balancers, transactions are not getting distributed between the two application servers. Which is impacting the performance.
First of all can we implement load balancer without impacting much to the application servers. What is the best load balancer that is suitable for our current setup.
It will be great help if you can share some links for the same.
    Thanks,
    Biswa

    Hi All,
I want to mention few more details about our OIM implementation and what we are trying load balance.
SAP HRMS is the trusted source for OIM. We recieve IDOCs for user creation, modification and disable from SAP through JMS queue. OIM doesn't recieve any http transactions.
My understanding is we need to load balance JMS queue. Please confirm
    Thanks,

  • Can precalc server run in multiple SAP systems ?

We are running the precalc server multiinstance on a 64 bit server.  Can we have the precalc server identified in 2 SAP systems ?.  IE precalc_server1 in our production BIP system and QA System, BIQ.
I thought I read that this was not standard practice, but could not find.
I was wondering what the procedure is when you refresh your QA system from Production.  Do you use RSPRECADMIN to delete the old precalc servers and create new ones ?
Edited by: Denise Carew on Feb 8, 2012 9:24 PM

    Hello Denise,
This question came to SAP Primary Support some time ago.
You can use and maintain in two different systems.
It is not recommended to use in two system with too much workload.
So, if you use on QA system, just for tests, it is not a problem.
