App Server Slow Down
Hi All,
I had posted my query earlier, no one seem 2 hv replied. hopefully someone will this time.
Oracle 9iAS admin console takes a long time to load, around 15 mins, and also as much for other tasks as deploying applications etc. Development is just not happening becuz of it. I'm using P4 1Gz, 512 + 256 MB DDR. Any solutions to make it faster.

Oracle doesn't manage the Apache logs. If a log file fills to the OS limit, the App Server crawls. Look for log files that are 2GB in size.
Don't know if that helps, but till I can convince our sysadmin to run a cron job, it's a monthly problem for us.

We had a App Server not come up after a restart.
When trying to access a site we get

We have now started the App Server and everything working again...
My problem, there are 2 WFE servers with NLB Configured apart of the App Server ....Why wont the site work and why cant i connect to config DB?
Something must be misconfigured? Sites should be connecting to the WFE servers and work if App server is down.
Yes, NLB Points to the WFE Servers.
Any ideas where i can look? This is a Project PWA Server, not sure if that will make a difference but the root SharePoint site had the same issue.

is it possible that the SQL Server is running on the same box as the SharePoint (application) server? This would be the only thing that can explain the symptoms. Please check following:
IP address of the SharePoint Application server by typing nslookup AppServerName on the SharePoint WFE in Command Prompt (cmd.exe). Replace
AppServerName with the FQDN of the application server, e.g. appserver.domain.local
IP address of the SQL server by typing nslookup SQLServerName on the SharePoint WFE in Command Prompt (cmd.exe). Replace
SQLServerName with the FQDN of the SQL server, e.g. sqlserver.domain.local
SQL Server alias configuration by checking the entries in the cliconfg.exe on both SharePoint WFEs
In most cases, SQL server has nothing to do with the SharePoint Application server role and it is stored on the separate box. My guess here is that the farm started as one-server farm setup and over the time got expanded by additional 2 WFEs, moving
Web Server roles from the initial server, leaving it with the application role (service applications) and SQL server on the same box.
But, I am just making an educated guess here. Can you provide some additional information?

it runs fine, but if i close console app server shut down??

Server slows down after a while
Hi all,
I've a problem with a linux machine which slows down after running for
some days. It usually handles about 100 request per second and after a
while it goes down to about 5 requests per second. I'm running WL6.1Sp1
on Linux with JDK1.3.1 and "-hotspot -ms512m -mx512m". I'm wondering if
this is related to some problem in my code or maybe rather is a database
issue. I took a thread dump, and the server looks idle. Does anyone see
something unusual in this dump? Does it indicate anything else than a
nearly totally idle server?

Problem with InDesign server - Server slows down fast
My javascript code iterates the pages of the InDesign Document and searches for the text frames with some special character style.
I found some samples from Jongware :
sourcelist = app.activeDocument.findText()
and

if I use the first variant the memory goes to ca. 1.2GB (the server has 4GB), the search is completed in ca. 2 minutes but InDesign Server works incredibly slow.
The problem is I have to find a page for each text found.
If I use second variant the memory goes high slowly and so each iteration needs more time.
After 300th page InDesign Server needs up to 30-40 seconds to process the page.
(First pages are processed 3-4 per second)
I tried several possible implementations, like

JavaScript objects referencing a native InDesign object have an internal representation for their "address" in the DOM, a textual form (similar to an XPath) is available via toSpecifier(). The specifier starts at the document and then follows collections (e.g. pages) and collection accessors (e.g. itemByID()) to finally reach the same object.
You can see that the specifier of the document before and after the close/open roundtrip changes in CS5 or later (different document ID), where CS4 used a different specifier form (itemByName() for the document) . The renumbered document ID renders previous references to the same page invalid - see the isValid property. If you want to revive such a stale object reference across close/open, you can remember the page ID and use your reopened document's myDoc.pages.itemByID() method to get to the same object.
Regarding your other performance problem: print the output of the ExtendScript helper function "$.summary()" before and after the code sequence in question, or compute the differences. You may want to precede that with two explicit calls for the garbage collection "$.gc()" - yes, double invokation seems to be more thorough. Sometimes you find memory leaks that way, for example caused by the javascript "closure" design pattern (all those "Workspace" objects).

It doesn't seem to be any one program or type of computer (G4 or G5). Everybody that is experiencing the problem is logged in via the OS X server with their Home directory on the server. If we create a local user the problem doesn't appear. It seems to point to the OS X server but all indicators show the server is hardly doing anything thing at all. Very low CPU utilization, disk usage, network traffic, throughput, and the system memory never maxs out.

Enabling NIC teaming on Server slows down RDP connection
You shouldn't run teaming if the adapters are on different subnets; it's used for two adapters in the same subnet
I have psychical host with two NICs running server 2012 R2. Each NIC has it's own separate subnet. Reason why i wanted to enable teaming so i'm able to ping all the IP addresses in both range. After i enabled teaming i was no longer able to RDP in to machine, sometimes it will work but i will be painfully slow and will disconnect shortly after. This machines also hosts 4 VMs and i can RDP in to those VMs without any problem but the psychical host seems to have issues. i also tried to login to that host using logmein but logmein just keeps waiting on screen to load but never does where as VMs on that host work perfectly fine.
When i ping host using another computer on subnet ping response time all seems to be -
Connecting to remote server slows down computer
We've been connecting to a remote server for years, and only recently have this problem:
When connected to a remote server, the entire system runs sluggish. This only happens with one remote server -- other connections don't cause this problem. The system is slow even if we are not reading or writing -- just the connection seems to cause the slowdown.
What could be causing this?You need to enable WinRM on your system. Open powershell on the system you want to connect to remotely and enable it by typing:

Opening an Indesign file from server slows down [very urgent please]
Hi All,
I have a book that is already paginated. (Every indesign file has hyperlinks targeted to the another indesign file (paragraph Anchor destinations)).
After few days the server was crashed due to some network problems.
Now a new server has been created with different name and path.
If I try to open the indesign file it takes much much longer time than usual, For the same file if I disconnect the network connection it is working as usual.
What is the cause of this? Is there any way to overcome this issue or any work around? At the same time I need to retain the hyperlinks also. Because it is very very difficult to re-create the links (more than 100 or 200 number of links will be there in every chapter).
Note: I have tried something like trashing indesign preferences. It is also not working.

Green4everI restored all my indesign file in the same folder structure except the root folder. I already tried the way you suggested. It is not helping me.
"I thought that may be Indesign is searching for the missing links" So I try editing the preferences so that indesign will not search for the missing links(I think it is only aplicable for graphic links is it?). After that also I am facing the same problem.
Is there anyway to open the indesign file without checking for missing hyperlinks. So that it may open faster.

Why does Firefox performance slow down after starting Jack server?

I started configuring my audio on my system. So, I want to have jack working (not jack2, to work with wineasio) with best sound quality with all sound routed through jack. When i start jack server with this command and settings:

Firefox slows down, opens new pages slow and the scroll down is very very slow. I had this issue with other distros too. I suspect that it has to do with realtime ( which i need for my audio related apps like traktor through wine, ardour, ableton through wine etc) without being sure about it. This smells like hardware problem. Do this:
1. Kill pulseaudio, jack, and make sure they are killed
2. Make sure you do not renice anything or apply other such tweaks
3. Run jackd -d alsa
4. Use your system
5. If unsatisfactory, try jackd -d alsa -p 1024 -n 3
6. Use your system
Jack runs with realtime priority by default (no flag required), and we still use the audio group to provide that privilege. I also do not advocate the realtime kernel, but you may try it. Jack not functioning well (i.e. hampering other tasks significantly) on a standard kernel is cause for concern.
You can read/grep your dmesg and systemd journal for suspicious messages. You may try running real-time audio tasks in another operating system with your hardware, and upon success may proceed to debug the problem on Linux, possibly with the help of the alsa developers.
Or better yet, grab a supported semi-pro external audio device if jack is important for you. However, this may not help if the problem is somewhere deeper, e.g. at the hardware interrupt level.

Safari is slow to open and close. It also slows down other apps while it is running. How can I resolve this issue?
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the malfunctioning extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. That will revert its settings to the defaults.
If there's no improvement, continue as follows.
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. Test. -
Xorg-server-1.2.0-2 high load, slows down everything
I've just updated xorg-server.
After xorg started, the system is very slow... as if everything works in slowmotion. The load of X (as seen in top) is very high and slows down everything.
I've had this problem with all the beta and RC versions of xorg-server-1.2.0 that I've compiled myself. The version I'm using now from the repositories (1.2.0-2) has the same problem.
This problem happens with kernel 2.6.19-ck and 2.6.20-ck, I haven't tried other kernel versions.
Turning off EXA (that means using XAA) and/or turning off composite in xorg.conf makes X quicker (the load is also lower), but still slower than normal (with EXA, composite and xorg-server-1.1.1).

xorg-server-1.2.0-2 and all the libx*, xf86*, libdrm, libgl-dri and mesa are the newest versions from the repositories.
Last edited by eric (2007-02-27 15:42:55)Alright, downgrading wasn't the solution I was looking for, so I took the path to darkness and installed the most recent proprietary ATI drivers (8.34.8). Because the laptop has some ACPI issues I have to apply two patches which in turn require a custom kernel. Needless to say the Arch fglrx driver packages don't work with this kernel. So, here's what i did:
1) fetched the proprietary drivers from ati.com
2) run them, looked in awe at the error message
3) went here: http://cvs.archlinux.org/cgi-bin/viewcv … root=Extra and fetched the fglrx-kernel-2.6.20 patch.
4)
cd /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod/2.6.x
make clean
rm -r .tmp_versions
cd ..
patch < /path/to/fglrx-kernel-2.6.20
./make.sh
cd ..
./make_install.sh
modinfo fglrx
modprobe fglrx
lsmod | grep fglrx
5) Use aticonfig --initial to adapt /etc/X11/xorg.conf
6) Restart X

Preview app freezing and slowing down MBP
Since I updated to OS Mavericks my preview app has not been functioning properly. When the app is open when viewing PDFs a window (accompanied by a progress bar) pops up quite frequently that says "Saving changes... '#' documents remaining", with the # sign representing any number of documets. Often, the number of documents "remaining to be saved" progressively increases from 1 to 8 or so, despite there being only one document open. While the app is doing these "auto saves" my computer is slowed down significantly and while these interuptions occur I am usually unable to do anything else.
I will also add that the size of the PDF files that I view are rather large, on average 70-80 MB, although I'm not sure if that is the reason for the issue because before I updated to Mavericks I didn't have this problem. And the problem does also seem to occur with smaller sized files as well.
My computer usage is usually minimal when this occurs, typically only Safari is open in the background. I was advised to reset my SMC, which I did, but the problem is still occurring. Any additional advice or solutions would be much appreciated. Thanks.Update: The Preview app is using a lot of memory and I don't know why.
With activity monitor on, I notice that the memory usage for the app spikes considerably when viewing PDFs, especially when I scroll, exactly the same problem as you, loveceratops. When a PDF is initially openend, the activity monitor shows memory usage around 50 MB, but when I scroll within the PDF the memory usage shoots all the way up to 500 or 600 MB. It's at this point that the glitches preciptating in Preview begin to occur.
I've tried deleting/recreating the preview app's ".plist" files in the "Preferences" and "Containers" folders, but that has not solved the issue. I want to try to reinstall Preview, and I just might, but I'm also considering reinstalling OS Mavericks since that may be easier; but I'm concerned that the same problem would still keep happening since I'd be recovering all my files from Time Machine after the reinstall.
Any help solving this issue would be much appreciated, thanks in advance. This is a very frustrating problem. -

I'm running a tekkit classic (Minecraft) Server on a dedicated server I got from OVH, Im just wondering - Im currently using ClamAV for an antivirus, But I would like windows defender.
Im wondering if installing Desktop Experience on my dedi would increase processor usage or slow down the dedi even slightly.
System Specs:
RAM: 32GB DDR3 ECC 1600MHz
CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1245v2
HDD: 2x2TB SATA (Both used, specified as different drives)
OS: Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
Theres only 1 indev tekkit server currently running on there, Im getting 0-5% processor usage. I may be setting up more modpack servers - but im wondering if installing desktop experience would increase the processor usage or slow the dedi down.
