App Space

Hi all, hoping that someone might be able to help me with this.
I have a 32gb iPad and I am getting a warning that I am running out of disk space. However, I have been having a look at the main area that iTunes is telling me that the space is being used i.e. Apps.
According to iTunes I have got 20.6gb of space being used on the iPad. However, I have had a look at the apps that are installed and I cannot work out how that can be the case! I have 51 apps installed, the largest of which is 270mb. There are only 7 other apps that are over 100mb with all the remainder being less than 50mb. Basically there is no way the apps can be anywhere near the size that iTunes is telling me.....unless I am missing something?!
Can anyone suggest where all this space is being take up?
Thanks!!

I do have a couple of apps with newspapers/magazines but have deleted all older issues and that doesn't seem to have helped.
The other odd thing is that I have just noticed that iTunes isn't actually detecting all of the apps on the iPad?! For example I have Photoshop on there which doesn't show in iTunes but is definitely on the iPad.
This might well be the cause if I have a random app that is taking up a load of space but isn't showing on iTunes I guess?!

  • My wife and I have the same Verizon Ellipsis 7 MV7A we received from Verizon. Why does mine show ROM of 5gib but hers shows 1gib? She keeps being told she is out of app space.

My wife and I both have a Verizon Ellipsis 7 MV7A tablet. She has been getting messages to the effect 'insufficient app storage space". My tablet shows total ROM of 5 Gib while hers shows total ROM of 1 Gib. We both show Total space of 8 Gib. I have cleared cache and uninstalled apps but apps being updated are failing. Help! Thanks.

I'm talking about ROM. I have lots of available RAM. I got the "Available app space" to 143MB by removing updates to some apps. These were some of the pre-loaded apps that we are not using. The minute it wants to update other apps (pre-loaded) the available app space goes down until the “Insufficient space available” message appears.
Thanks. Here is the version of the software:
    Android version: 4.2.2

    This is from Settings/Internal Storage:

    Available Tablet space: 3.2GB
    Available app space: 143MB
    Applications: 812MB

    Audio (music....): 288KB
    Downloads: 3.09MB
    Cached data: 6.48MB

The totals I am seeing from Android Assistant are:

  • The app Spaces keeps me from using two applications at the same time.

I set up Spaces but now experience a bad side-effect. When I need to have Two files/folders/whatever in use because I want to place something from X into Y, I cannot do it because Spaces only lets One application on the desktop at the time; it shoos all the other applications away, and in doing so, it takes away the thing that I wanted to place into the new application that swooshed onto my desktop when I pressed its corresponding square in the Spaces icon in the top control panel.
How can I arrange it so that I can keep Two or three applications available for me to do transfers from one to another?

Ferrell, I have done what you suggested. I clicked onto the Spaces icon in the upper control panel and assigned spaces to six apps: Mail, Safari, iPhoto, iMovie, Pages, and iWeb.
The problem is that if I am one app and I want to put something into that app, then the minute my mouse cursor goes to get that other thing, the original application into which I want the thing put GETS WHOOSHED OFF THE DESKTOP. What I want is for the original app to remain open whilst I go to retrieve a file or folder, and stay open while I put that thing into the original app.
How does one turn off Spaces? I don't mean to delete all the names from the settings.I mean, just turn it off for a while so I can do something which requires for two apps to be open at the same time????

  • Why doesn't ctrl+shift+arrow move an app/space to the adjacent monitor?

In linux it is very easy to set up keyboard shortcuts to move the current window to the adjacent workspace. It feels odd that mavericks has these full screen apps that can be placed on any monitor and viewed simultaneously, but then you have to open mission control and drag a space to move it to another monitor. I don't know the code-base, but it can't be that bad to add this to mavericks...

There is an application called Spectacle that does just this. Useful until Mac OS has the feature built in.

  • Open app space

In leopard my apps opened up in different spaces, now in lion my apps open up in the same spaces (or desktops) but I can not set up what desktop to use.
I could set this in Preferences> Exposé and Spaces but now it missing. How can I do it?
    Sorry for my english.

You now have to create the new Desktops/Spaces and then add the apps while in the desired space.
    - Go to Mission Control and scroll up to the upper right hand corner of your display.
    - Click on the '+' sign to create a new Desktop.
    - To assign an app to it, go to the new Desktop and with the app active and running in the Dock, right-click on it and move to Options and 'Assign To:' This Desktop (or All Desktops if you wish)
You'll have to do this for every app and new Desktop.
Unfortunately, it's a step backwards in initial setup when compared to Spaces in 10.6.x

  • After wake from screensaver jump app/space?

Hopefully someone can suggest a fix for this annoying OSX behaviour!
Everytime I wake from my screensaver, Spaces jumps back to space one and brings an application that was hidden to the foreground.
So, for example. I am using Safari on Space 3. Computer goes to screensaver. I wake it. Immedietly it whips across to Space 1 and brings the previously hidden Skype to the foreground.
    What's making this happen?
Interestingly it always seems to be Skype it brings the the front. If Skype is quit though the same behavious occurs but bringing a different program to the front.
    Any ideas please?

H, I'm having a similar issue with Mission Control on OSX 10.8 and have had a post on the forums for over a month now (see link below) but no one's answered me and I can't find a solution anywhere. Have you had any luck since posting? For me, the OS likes to jump from whatever full-screen app or desktop space I was using when I put my mac to sleep to desktop space 1 and Twitter! Similarly, if I close Twitter, some other random App takes its place. Wierd.

  • Need more App Space

Please, can Apple upgrade the amount of space for Apps on the iPod Touch? I could use 5 times the alloted disk space. It would also be nice to have a category setup similar to the iTunes store with the capability to create ones own categories. I have a 32 gb iPod Touch and use it almost exclusively for apps. I have a 60gb iPod Video and a 120gb iPod Classic for music. If Apple is worried about users nuking their music, etc., Apple can put some "logic" in the expansion of disk space for Apps to prevent this from happening on both the iPhone and iPod Touch. Make the disk space user controllable for those who need extra space. Thanks, Mac user since 1984, Apple user since 1981. Still have my AppleII Plus, IIGS, IIc, and all my Macs - about 15-20, including powerbooks(5). Please take up the channel

  • Published IOS app space bar and return does not work

    Hi
We have developed an app for iPhone/iPad in XCode on a mac. When debugging on iPad from mac, we are able to enter any character in to a text box.
However, the app has been sent through Apple in to the iTunes store and when installing from there, entering in to a text box, the space bar, return key and other non A-Z 0-9 characters just do not work.  The space bar does seem to make the auto correct suggestions change, but does not enter a space in to the text.
    Why would this happen?
Any help would be hugely appreciated!

Contact facebook here. Sounds like its an app issue.

  • App space on my phone

Hello my phone is telling me that there is only 28.1 MB of application space available on my phone but that is clearly impossible since i have like 4 apps on my phone... maybe 5...
I have a media card that still has 1.6 GB left on it.
    Please help!

Try pulling out the battery for 15 minutes. Also check that the apps you are using aren't storing lots of data

  • Anormal app space usage

    Hi.
I have a Macbook Pro Retina 256GB disk with 2 months old running Yosemite super smooth.
Was just checking my disk space by clicking on the top left corner apple and i got this:
Apps installed are 81 GB (green bar)? No way...i know it´s wrong because i still have few stuff installed. And it can be seen that are available 194 GB from the 256 GB meaning that im using around 56 GB for real. Any insights?
(im new to the mac world and im loving it)
The only stuff i´ve installed was the latest GarageBand update (i believe it used around 6 GB) and last week the Office´s Beta version for retina.
    Thanks in advance

Ok..resolved with a spotlight index reset as mentioned by other users

  • Blank app spaces in home screens/folders

When viewing a home screen, or a folder, in which neither is filled with apps, why are the blanks at the bottom, which puts apps further from your thumbs reach?

That is correct - you must have a photo in every photo frame to order

  • It says apps are taking up more space on my phone than they actually are. I can no longer download anything to my iPhone. PLEASE PLEASE HELP!

please please please help! It says in my iPhone Free Space area on iTunes that the apps on my phone are taking up 9.20 GB when I only have one page of apps (all fairly small ones, too!). I can no longer download anything to my phone because of this, and I need help to bring my "app space" down from the incorrect number.

    Hi Lisa,
Did you ever manage to resolve this issue? I"m having exactly the same issue. I have about 350MBs of App stuff on my phone but it says it's using 10gigs!!! Have no idea how to resolve this...NE ideas?

  • Apps taking too much space

A week ago iTunes reported that my apps too about 160 MB. I bought CoPilot NA, and tried to install on the phone. After a lengthy download, and then install, it failed. I then downloaded on my computer, and synced to my phone. CoPilot works fine, but, iTunes is now reporting that I have 4 GB of apps on the phone. CoPilot NA is about 1.3 GB and I have no other "large" apps.
My guess is that the install attempt on the phone left behind files, maybe 1 zipped file, and 1 app bundle that doesn't work and is invisible?
Any ideas on how I can get back some of this space?
    Thanks,
    Chris

I uninstalled Copilot, then reinstalled. Lost all my user settings, like My Places entries. That sucked, but, oh well.
Total app space went down to < 1 GB while Copilot was gone, then back up to 4 GB when it was installed, even though it is listed as 1.3 GB in the app store.
    Am I the only one?
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • App not opening in Spaces

I love Spaces, but I have a problem with it and my Office applications.
    Here's my configuration:
    Mail/Safari - Space #1
    iTunes - Space #2
    Address/iCal - Space #3
    Office - Space #4
"When switching to an application . . . " box is checked (in Sys Pref)
If I am in Safari, for example, and want to switch over to Office and I click on the icon in the dock, Spaces doesn't move me to that space. It activates the application, but it doesn't take me there. That holds true whether the application is open at the time or not.
If I am in Word and switch over to Safari, it DOES take me to that space.
Also, if I am in Safari and click on the icon for iTunes, Address Book, or iCal, I will also be taken to that space. The only time it doesn't work is for the Office applications.
I have Expose configured so that when I put my cursor in the lower right hand corner Spaces is activated and that's how I move from one place to the next. It's works, but it doesn't solve the problem.
Any ideas on why this is happening or what I can try to fix the problem?
    Thanks.
    Chip
P.S. I know there was a big update with the Office products recently and I did do the update. But I had the same problem prior to updating.

Office applications have sometimes not played nice with Spaces. A recent update of Office did fix a problem with Office's Toolbox when switching Spaces, but the switching of apps is still an issue.
When I am switching to an Office app, I have gotten in the habit of switching to it's Space before, or while opening the apps (Office apps are very slow to open), in your case, it would be the key combination of Control-4 to switch to the Office apps Space.

  • Backing up iPad app audio files manually

I am using a specific iPad app for work (Assess) that was designed to not sync or backup audio files that I create within the app.  The thing is, for multiple reasons, including the fact that my iPad Air has 10 GB of Other data and is in need of a fresh restore) I need to back up those files.  I've contacted the developer and they say they can't help and they designed it that way on purpose.  There have to be some third party apps out there that would let me see the files on my iPad and copy them, yes?  Suggestions?

No suggestions and the Developer has the ability and right to maintain there files solely inside their application.
If it is intentionally built that way, there is likely no good method of bypassing their security.
All IOS apps only have access to their own storage and do not have the ability to reach into another apps space, This is part of what make the IOS so secure against malware.
