App-specific password for iMessage and FaceTime required?

Using 2 step verification with AppleID/iCloud
This morning somehow I was asked to generate an app-specific password for both iMessage and FaceTime on a Mac Mini that I use occasionally. Fair enough. Completed the process. After a while I noticed that FT and iMessage were logged out of my iPad, and it asked to generate an app-specific password. Does FT and iMessage now require an app specific password? So the Apple ID/password are no longer  enough? I can understand the need for this with third party apps, but with Apple apps? Can someone please confirm if as of today iMessage and FT need an app specific password in order to work with 2 step verification?
Or am I missing something here?

So far the app specific passwords were only required for 3rd party apps, not for "Apple apps". Not sure why you cannot use trusted device verification for iMessage and FT like on the App store or iTunes. or on Apple TV.
Having to generate a different  app specific password for every device that uses iMessage or FT is a pain, but I guess the powers that be at Apple feel it is more secure.

You can take a look at this support document for troubleshooting iMessage and FaceTime activation. If you have difficulty activating FaceTime or iMessage - Apple Support
I believe with the iPhone, you need to have a SIM installed, since the activation sends an international SMS to servers in the UK. Check to see what that support document states.

I have the mail client both in my iPhone and iPad, when I use app specific password, it kicks me out from one of them. I tried using 2 different app specific passwords, still kicking me out. Is is really like this?

  • After having updated iso 7.1 on my Iphone 4 ,i cannot sign in for Imessage and Facetime

After having updated ios 7.1 on my Iphone 4 ,cannot sign in for imessage and Facetime?

Having the same issue but it seems to be everything - messages, phone, contact, viber. It's made my phone completely useless!! I open it, opens it, doesn't load anything but the white page and then it goes back to the home screen.
I can't even go back to a phone back up as it wont connect to itunes any more - says it needs to be updated - app store has no update for itunes.

  • HT204053 Can I use the same Apple ID for iMessage and FaceTime services from two different devices - iPhone and iPad?

Can I use the same Apple ID for iMessage and FaceTime services simultaneously on two different devices - iPhone and iPad? It seems those are competing to each other, and the services work on one of them only (iPhone).

Many thanks, Sir! Both are mine and it's good to know that imessage can work on both with the same Apple ID. Will now have to find out why imessage stopped working on iPad when it started on iPhone (new). After exploring the forum I understand  that there may be plenty of reasons why imessage does not work, even though it worked previously on the same device with the same ID.

Basically i need to either take it to a shop that can unlock i.e. £40.00
Be aware, you go that route & every time you try to update or restore, it will error out, leaving your phone unusable. Not to mention, you void all warranty/support.
Sell it & use the proceeds towards an officially unlocked iPhone bought directly from Apple.
    Good luck.

  • How do I change the phone number that ipad is using for iMessage and FaceTime

Since the latest iOS update my ipad uses my husbands phone number for iMessage and FaceTime. How do I change the phone number to match my iPhone?

Sign out of FT and iMessage on both your iPad and your iPhone. Sign back in on the iPhone. Wait for everything to activate. Then, sign back in on the iPad using the same Apple ID.

  • How can i use 2 different apple ids for imessage and facetime on 1 ipad?

How can i use 2 different apple ids for imessage and facetime on 1 ipad?

Do you mean can you use one Apple ID for FaceTime and one for iMessage? You should be able to. Or, do you mean, can you log into iMessage (or FaceTime) with two Apple IDs at once? No.

  • How can I change my phone number for iMessages and FaceTime?

When I am using my iPad for iMessages and FaceTime, it displays a different cell number than my own.  How can I change this number to my cell phone?  When I log using my Apple ID, it shows the other number and will not let you change it.  Is there a way to change it?

I found the answer.  You can do this by:
    For iMessage-
    Settings>Message>Send & Receive>Log into your Apple account
    For FaceTime-
    Settings>FaceTime>Log into your Apple account
Once in, you can select the phone number you want to use.  After completing this task, you can then go to Settings on your iPad and select iMessage and FaceTime.  Preform the same steps as above and the phone number will be changed.

  • TS2755 Azerbaijan (+994) missed as location (??!!) for imessage and FaceTime? When you enter to "change location", no Azerbaijan amongs the region?!!

IOS7...Azerbaijan (+994) missed as location (??!!) for imessage and FaceTime? When you enter to "change location", no Azerbaijan amongs the region?!!
+994 phone number is disappeared !!!

Why no one from Apple support team still didn't replied to this question? It is really problem for Apple Azerbaijan users which I'm pretty sure are more than above mentioned two countries.
I hope Apple support team will investigate and find the solution for this problem and satisfy Apple users in Azerbaijan.

  • HT204380 mobile number is still in 'verifying' state for imessage and facetime

unable to verify mobile number for imessage and facetime. Everytime I on/off the imesssage and facetime it charged internatinal sms price but never activate the mobile number.

Turn iMessage off and do a reset on the phone. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot. After it has finished, go back to Messages and turn iMessage back on. After it has activated, you can check the Send & Receive, it should be correct. The iPhone and iMessage get the phone number information from the SIM, it should change after completing this. The number should be gray and a check by it. That one cannot be changed, but if the old number shows up, you should be able to remove the checkmark by it.

  • Update for iMessage and FaceTime.

Does anyone know when the fix for the update for iMessage and FaceTime will occur? It will not let me log on thru the network.

My suggestion is wipe the iPad and restore from a backup. Backup your iPad first, so that you can restore from that backup and sync with iTunes as well, if you have been syncing with iTunes all along. If you have only been using iCloud, when you restore from the iCloud backup, all of your content will download from the backup.
You can wipe the iPad y going to Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings. You will have to activate the iPad all ore again and you will have the opportunity to restore from a backup during the activation process.
You can also restore the iPad iOS software using iTunes on your computer. This explains how to do it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
No matter which method you choose, backup first. That is very important.

  • Why do my kids' email settings keep evaporating for iMessage and Facetime?

I have set them both up with their own email addresses for iMessage and Facetime on their iPod touches.  Why does it keep erasing that information and showing "no addresses" in send and receive in settings?  Very frustrating...they can't iMessage or Facetime...and they were able to before.  Is this because of a system update thing????

I do not suspect it is due to updating.Could your kids just be deleting them?
To prevent deleting them go to Settings>General>Restrictions and set the Restrictions that prohibits changing accounts.
