App store and Java broken on Mountain Lion?

Hi all, so I just purchased a brand new 13" Macbook Pro, the first thing i did was install Mountain Lion on it, (it came from the factory with Lion) so i have no time machine backups to revert to. Here are my problems 1.) I can't download anything from the appstore, no matter how large or small of an app. 2.) Java will not download, when I open java preferences it prompts a dowload which after reaching about 15 mb it will say the download failed because the file was corrupted. The same thing happens when I try and manually initiate the download through Terminal. I spoke with several Apple reps and they all said that I would have to reinstall Mountain Lion (as far as I can tell there is no way to do this without a backup). So is there a way to fix this without reinstalling Mountain Lion? If not how do i reinstall. Any help is greatly appreciated
Thanks

I can't download anything from the appstore, no matter how large or small of an app.
Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Security > General
Click the gold padlock icon to make changes. You may be prompted for your admin password.

You can reinstall OS X using Mountain Lion Recovery but it shouldn't be necessary.

Now what to do help me please

iCloud isn't syncing them on your phone.  You simply added the email account to your phone and enabled calendar and notes syncing with the email provider, and the calendar and notes appear in the calendar and notes apps on your phone.  You can do this with Gmail, Yahoo and other IMAP account.  iCloud email is just another IMAP account, but syncs notes with Apple's iCloud server just as Gmail syncs notes and calendars with Google's server.
iCloud didnt' set up a non-iCloud account on your Mac.  When you check Mail in System Preferences>iCloud, it only creates an iCloud email account.  You can also add other email accounts to your Mac by going to System Preferences>Mail,Contacts,Calendars and clicking on the "+" sign on the bottom of the left sidebar.  If you added these other email accounts to your Mac before you upgraded to Mountain Lion, these were simply maintained on your Mac after you upgraded.

itunes store and mac app store quits automatically with an error message .....

    hi, I am the same U :
i'm from a country from the middle east called Palestine, and there is no store for it in the mac app store and i keep trying to buy os x mountain lion from the app store and it keeps saying invalid number can anybody help pease?

I think that you know as well as anyone here that there is not yet a legal entity known as the nation of Palestine. There is the Palestinian Territories that are administered currently by the nation of Israel. So if you are going to use the iTunes Store or the Mac App Store, you likely have to use the Israeli Store with a bank card from a local bank with a local billing address. If you cannot supply those bank credentials, then you will likely need to get an iTunes Gift Card for the Israeli Store and buy content that way.
    now...
I tried to enter the Apple store to buy some programes, Although I have electronic shopping card, and tried to give it's informations as accurately as possible, but it was rejected because the numbers are not included in the list of their country, so what can i do to solve this problem, because my country Palestine is not included in the list of the country that are known to the store, when i put Israel also it was rejected and I want to buy this store programs

  • App Store hanging on upgrade to Mountain Lion from 10.6.8

I've got a Mac Pro (shown as version 3,1 in System Profiler) which is running 10.6.8 Server and I'm trying to get it to upgrade to Mountain Lion.
Unfortunately when I click on the "Buy App" button - or even if I click on the "Updates" button - the App Store application spins the progress icon for a little bit, but then hangs with the basketball of death. In the end I have to force-quit it - even leaving it for several hours doesn't help.
I've tried booting the Mac in to safe mode, resetting the NVRAM and similar - all to no avail. The host can reach the internet with no issues - I can see the initial app page, find the Mac OSX Mountain Lion page, etc. Its only after I've clicked the button to purchase the software that it hangs. I've tried booting it into the Apple Hardware Test, via holding down D at bootup, but unfortunately that doesn't seem to work.
Anyone got any ideas of how to proceed from here ? I've got a sinking feeling that the host will end up just staying at 10.6.8!

Thanks for poking me to look at the console logs! That led me to find the error message:
    App Store[762] <Error>: CGBitmapContextGetBitsPerComponent: invalid context 0x112f90060
Which in turn pointed me to https://discussions.apple.com/message/15431640#15431640
Renabling Spotlight (see http://osxdaily.com/2011/12/10/disable-or-enable-spotlight-in-mac-os-x-lion/ ) allowed the App Store to work again!
Just why the App Store requires Spotlight to work is beyond me.

  • I run a studio in Atlanta.  I am doing an upgrade to Protools 11.  Avid does not support Yosemite.  Mavericks is no where to be found on App store.  Had to purchase Mountain Lion.  I am losing money waiting on Apple to "ship" / email me a activation

I run a studio here in Atlanta.  YEster day morning I called an Apple store to see if I could buy a copy of Mavericks.  They forwarded me to Apple Care.  Apple Care tech and myself could not find Mavericks anywhere on the app store.  Avid does not support Yosemiteam yet, so I had no other choice but to purchase Mountain Lion.  It has been over 24 hours waI ting on Apple to "ship" / email me a code to download from the app store.  I read a lot of horror stories from when they rolled out Mountain Lion in 2012 about it taking 72 hours to receive the codes.  I hope that maybe it doesn't take that l9ng this time because I am losing money by the minute.  Microsoft would have had a code to me in minutes.  This is just crazy.  I have used Apple products for years, but this is very disappointing.  Anyone else ordered Mountain Lion recently?  How long dI'd it take Apple to "ship" you your code via email?  Thanks

From what I've read on these forums over the past few months, it hasn't gotten any better. An electronic order from any company shouldn't take more than 12 hours for a system to respond to, but people have been waiting up to a week for their redemption code email to arrive. It makes no sense to me why it would take that long.

  • Will downloading Lion from the App Store (previously purchased) while on Mountain Lion erase my current OS?

    All,
I'm trying to download Lion from the App Store to make a bootable external hard drive. My concern is that the app store gives me a warning: "OS X 10.8 is already installed on this computer. Are you sure you want to download OS X 10.7?"
I'm not sure what this means and I would prefer not to risk erasing my current operating system. Does anyone have an idea?
    Thank you in advance.

Futhermore, I can't believe that the App Store allows you to download OS X Lion while you are in OS X Mountain Lion, because normally the App Store gives an error because you are running a newer Mac OS X.
If you just download OS X Lion, you won't lose OS X Mountain Lion, because just the installer will be downloaded onto the Applications folder. When the download finishes, the installer will show up, so close it, and use Lion Diskmaker to create an external drive with OS X Lion > http://liondiskmaker.com
As you are running OS X Mountain Lion, I recommend you to make an external drive with OS X Mountain Lion instead, if you can. That's because probably you will want to reinstall OS X Mountain Lion and not Lion

  • App Store upgrade Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion: unable to accept Terms & Conditions

I was trying to upgrade a Mac from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 (latest) to Mountain Lion via the App Store. When I click "Buy" it pops down an alert reading:
The iTunes Terms & Conditions have changed. To Proceed, you must read and accept the new terms and conditions.
So far, so good.. I click "OK" and it brings up the Terms & Conditions document. I check the box "I have read and agree…" and click the Agree button. This sends me right back to the ML purchase page, with the same alert described above popped down again.
I have only gone through this loop for 3 or 4 cycles, but I assume it is infinite.

Like others I am continuinly getting an account error message ("cannot verify a secure connection with the app store") on logging on to the app store since upgrading to Mountain Lion.  I am using an admin account and other suggested remedies have had no effect.  The option to "cancel or continue" gives a black screen with either option.  Is there any solution to this?

  • HT1338 I went to the Apple Store and bought the OSX Mountain Lion update and it is still downloading.  The download began at around 7:00 PM last night.  It is now 7:03AM.  What's wrong.  The icon on my computer says it is downloading still.

My OSX Mountain LIon is still downloading after the download was initiated 12 hours ago.  What's wrong?

Possibly nothing. The whole thing relies on the amount of people currently doing the same thing as you and also your internet connection, remembering that WiFi is extremely slow.
How far through the download is it? If it's nearly done and at least still moving along I would be inclined to leave it. If not then you can stop it and start it all over again. Just be warned that if it is simply a connection issue then you might just be re-starting your clock
PS - I've seen the download take over 60hrs before.

  • IPhone 5 doesn't work with Mac OS 10.5.8 - do I need to ugrade to 10.6 and then upgrade to Mountain Lion or can I just upgrade to Mtn Lion right away?

iPhone 5 doesn't work with Mac OS 10.5.8 - do I need to ugrade to 10.6 and then upgrade to Mountain Lion or can I just upgrade to Mtn Lion right away?

At least to 10.6.8. You must do this to upgrade to Mountain Lion.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

I downloaded the mountain lion from the app store and it downloaded. When i installed the mountain lion it said that the hd disk is broken and cannot be repaired, and the other disk doesnt have enough space! HELP and i cannot return to my desktop with the old sofware so i cant use my computer normaly

This error means that your hard drive is badly corrupt and cannot be repaired by Disk Utility. Since you say you don't have backups, this is very bad news. You may already have lost data irrevocably.
First order of business needs to be backing up whatever you can, but this may be difficult to do if the machine won't start up any more. See step 1 of the following post:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/21614450#21614450
Once you have backed up your data, you can address the other issues.

  • HT1338 i have a really old mac book with mac osx 10.6 and I cant purchase mountain lion in the app store. it says its not compatible with this computer. what can i do

I have been trying to purchase mountain lion from the app store and it doesnt let me. I keep getting mobile me in the system preferences and i want to upgrade so i can link this mac book with my icloud account and devices. How can I uograde to mountain lion?

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, click on More Info, and check the model identifier against the following, which are the earliest models capable of running 10.8:
    iMac7,1
    MacBook5,1
    MacBookPro3,1
    MacBookAir2,1
    Macmini3,1
    MacPro3,1
    Xserve3,1
If your computer is incapable of running 10.8 but has at least a Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and at least 2GB RAM, phone the online Apple Store and order a download code for Lion.
