App store browsing

I am absolutely stunned at how poorly the app store is implemented on the iPad.  There is no way to refine categories (types of games for instance) and browsing very deep into a category is almost painful and for some reason the most useful app discovery tool for me on my iPod, the top free and top paid for each category is not in the iPad version.  Am I completely paranoid for thinking Apple has some reason for intentionally making app discovery more difficult and painful? Perhaps to increase to their ability to pick winners but featuring them?

  • Problem with Icon in App Store Browse Screen

    Hi folks,
My app just got approved and I can search for and install it fine.  However, when I browse for it on the App Store, I get a black box where my logo should be:
    <image not shown but it's self-explanatory>
Now it's possible that this is because my logo is black on transparent, but other boxes here show other colors (like white, light blue, etc.)  How do I set that so my icon shows up?  Also, do I need to go through another approval process to make
    this change?
The icon looks correct in the search screen, so this is a bit irritating.
    Bill

    Hi Bill,
I would suggest you resubmit the app again, and make notes to the testers that you are only updating the app icon. If the issue persists, go ahead and open
support ticket so this can be looked into further.
    Thanks,
    Jonathan

  • Itunes 9 a let-down, app store browser user-unfriendly?

    Hi,
maybe I'm just missing something, but I find that that the new version is a let down. It's slow as ever and the appstore page is totally cluttered. There's so much talk of the endless number of applications that have been developed for the iphone. But finding what you're looking for can be a right pain, because the start page shows nothing but the most popular ones and the browser is in my opinion really user-unfriendly.
First you need to select app store, then click on a category, wait a while and eventually the list builds up right in front of you. But take a closer look and you'll see that a. the table is the same as for mp3/songs (trackname, released, genre (I am using the German version and don't know the English equivalent).
Next you select a line if you see something that catches your eye and would love to get more details, but there are none. Do a right click on the same line and the a window will pop up that makes a lot of sense for mp3s (the one with trackname, tracknumber, album name, realease date, cover picture etc) but is utterly useless if you're looking for an application. Wouldn't it make sense to show the details of the application in a pop-up window, although, sure this could also be implemented in a different way.
In any case it goes from bad to worse, because say you double-clicked on a line, read the application description, and decided it's not what you're looking for - how do you get back to the previous list?
Easy you think. Just click the little arrow in the top left of the app store window, but truth is the arrow takes you back to the very front page of the app store, which means that you have to select brows from the quick links section and so on and so forth one more time. It wouldn't be so bad if Itunes weren't so sluggish.
    Any help or ideas appreciated.
    Regards
    Stephan

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether your problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click  Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • App store browser on iPad loses it's place

While browsing the app store, after viewing an app's detail, the browser frequently starts over at the 1st screen of apps in the category - rather than where I was previously browsing.
This is very frustrating - especially in a category of thousands of apps.
When can this bug be fixed ?

This is related to the amount of free RAM - there isn't enough to remember its place.  Try double-clicking the home button, then tap and hold on the icons that appear.  When they jiggle, tap the top left corner to close apps.  iOS is supposed to manage this by itself, and on the whole it does, but it isn't perfect.

  • App Store browsing still rough around the edges

So here is a frustrating experience with the App Store application. Not sure if this happens in iBooks, etc but I'm sure other people can validate.
So I am browsing for an app I want to buy. Let's say I want to browse the entire apps for children section. I go into the popular/best selling apps list and I move the list across and see that the 41st app might be kind interesting. So I touch (click) on it and it takes me to the details of that app. Now this is all working as expected. However, when I go back a page, it starts back at the original view. i.e. Listing apps #1, #2, etc...so again, I have to scroll to the 41st app to start where I left off last. I do this a few times, at the 50th app and then the 55th app and everytime I go back a page, I am presenting with an increasingly irritating view of the list from position #1 again.
Can we please have an App store app that remembers where you were and what position in the page you were on so when users go back a page, we are presented with the page and section of the page where we left off? Please???

General Clause 6. Apple involvement. Apple does not formally provide technical support on the Site. However, any information that is provided by Apple or Apple employees is offered on an “AS IS” basis without warranties of any kind.

  • APPS STORE browsing

When I am browsing a category in the apps store and I tap on an app to get more info, why does my browsing go back to the beginning of the category list when I press BACK (when I am done looking at that app)? This thing happens when I am far into the category list like at the 300th or so app, seldom does this happen when in the beginning of my browsing. Is this annoying and bug happening to anyone else?

It happens to just about everybody just about all the time, and has frequently been discussed in these and other forums. If you'd like to add you voice to those requesting a change, do it via the

  • App store browsing problem

When growing apps on my iPad, I select one to read the details. When I select "Back," the page goes back to the first page of listings. Also, I have selected "Most Popular," but it reverts to "Newest Released." How to fix?

I really hate this when it happens wail browsing the app store. Send feedback to Apple. Anothr letter on the pile might wake Apple up and compel them to fix it. I think this is the only issue that everyone has agreed on...!

  • App store and Youtube problems

Hello, I have a 2g iPod touch which I have started having problems with the last week or so. I can open the app store, browse through all the apps and view them. I can access my iTunes account, but when I press the updates tab in app store, it comes up with the message "cannot connect to itunes". Also when I try to download an app, it won't download, it just appears and says "waiting..."
I also have the problem with the YouTube app. I cannot view any of the tabs at the bottom. It just comes up with the loading screen and then says cannot connect to youtube. I can access the YouTube website through Safari but when I try and play a video it says the video cannot be played.
I have updated to the latest software (3.1.3) tried restarting, and restoring my iPod but nothing seems to work. It could be a problem with my Wi-Fi or internet, but I couldn't access the app store at my friends house, using his Wi-Fi either.
Anybody had the same problem or got any suggestions as to how to solve it?
    Thanks in advance.

If you read my post I mentioned that I restarted (turn on and off) and reset (restored to defaults), I have the latest software 3.1.3 and I have reset the network settings.

I finally got it to work.
    My problem was Spotlight !!!!!!!!
I disabled a while ago Spotlight upon an advice that when you use Logic Pro on a professional basis like I do, it was better to turn off Spotlight. To do so I used Spotless.
I turn it back on and gone was my problem not being able to download anything from Mac App Store.
    Hope this work for others.

  • App store irritation!

When browsing apps in the app store from my iPad, I find that many times when you return from an app back to the list it takes you back to the very beginning of the list!
For example, the app store browser window displays 12 apps per page. You can then page ahead to see the next page of 12 apps. But then you select one of the apps to look at closer and when you return to the list, it takes you back to the first page of 12 apps. This is very annoying and inconsistently posted, especially after you have paged thru 10 or more pages of apps! Apple, please fix this!

This bothers me too. I looged it with apple at:

Let Apple know about this. (We are all end users here)

  • Cannot connect to App Store since 10.8.1

    Hi there,
Brand new retina MBP, running 10.8.1 (updated via the app store).
Tried accessing the App Store after the update and I'm consistently rewarded with the frustrating error message 'Cannot connect to the App Store. An internet connection is required'. My internet connection is working and I'm posting on the computer in question (The only perculiar thing is that Diablo isn't letting me sign in either - it was working earlier, I don't know if thats related)
I've been searching online for a solution for a few hours now and I've read almost every thread in this forum on the topic, to no avail.
    I've turned my firewall off
    I don't have an anti-virus
My 'Allow Applications' is set to Mac App Store and identified developers
    I've deleted cache's and plists
I've reset my machine multiple times
    I've reset my router
I've reset safari and its caches
    Changed MTU size
I've changed the class 3 certificates to always trust
I've changed the class 3 certificates to system defaults
I've enabled debug mode and reset the App store
This whole situation is super frustrating for a brand new computer, I'm hoping someone can help me out.

    Hi,
I've done everything except erase and clean install. I've sent a note to Apple so we'll see what happens there. Here's a list of what I e done already:
    steps:
Connected to App Store (via MacBook Air) running 10.6.8.
Upgraded to 10.8.2 via App Store.
I went to look for updates and I get the "can't connect, etc"
So I restored back to 10.6.8 time machine backup...and verified I could connect.
Tried to upgrade again: same result.
All other wifi connections appear normal and App Store browsing is fine except in updates area.
    Steps I took to resolve:
Through terminal...activated the debug menu--reset app, cleared cache
    Restarted --  no change
    Created admin test user account
Verified that issue persists across users
Accessed App Store updates loads normally using a different MacBook Air (connected to same network) running 10.8.2
    Repaired permissions on problem volume
Verified that no firewall or parental controls are blocking anything
Added alternate DNS entries -- no change
    Restarted
I'm trying to avoid doing a clean install to obvious reasons. But sometimes that's what it takes.
    Thanks

  • IPAD 4 screen flicker in App store as well as browsing via safari and vdownloader. I tried restore and reset, but still the same...

    Hi everyone,
I just have my new Ipad4 last January 27, I noticed that while downloading a certain Apps in App Store then scrolling to look for more application, my screen would flicker like flashing or something blinking on it. I don't know what happened, why is it like that? Is it somewhat connected with hardware problem or does Ios 6 version still have a bug? I've tried using safari and other video downloader like vdownloader and I tried searching in youtube, still the same dilemma, it flicker also while browsing some video. Is it hardware problem? I already reset and restore my IPAD thou its a new one still the same dilemma happened again. What should I do? It was a gift for me and I'm really worried about it. Hope you could help me regarding it. Thank you so much.

Not normal. Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.

  • How do I stop the Atomic Browser on my iPod Touch from allowing websites to automatically load my App Store app?

I have the Bejeweled Blitz app (for Facebooik) on my iPod Touch 4th gen.  If I want to find gems (special items used in Bejeweled) I have to use a browser (I'm using Atomic Browser) on my iPod so I can grab gems from Facebook's news feed.  What's SUPPOSE to happen is this:
I set Atomic on my iPod to identify itself as Safari mobile (because the Bejeweled Blitz app on the iPod only recognizes Safari).
I load my Bejeweled app on my ipod.
I log into Facebook with Atomic and scan the news feed for gems and click on a gem.Atomic opens a new tab and tries to load the link.My iPod then switches from Atomic to my Bejeweled Blitz app and the gem appears in my game.
When I'm done with the game, I double click Home and swtich back to Atomic.
I close the new tab and search the news feed for the next gem.
HOWEVER, the problem is this:  About two-thirds of the time, when Atomic opens a new tab to load the link, instead of my iPod swtching to Bejeweled Blitz, it opens my App Store app and takes me to the Bejeweled Blitz app download page.  Sometimes the problem occurs when I'm done with my game:  i.e., when I go back to the browser, the iPod swtiches from Atomic and loads the App Store app before I even have a chance to close the tab.  It's a big pain in the neck because it takes a long time for the App Store app to load and when I go back to my Bejeweled Bltz app, it acts like it got dumped from memory and has to restart.
So... How do I make it so that my App Store app ONLY loads when I personally select the app myself?

  • Snow Leopard (10.6.8) Web Browser, App Store, iTunes Store image won't finish loading.

    Hello,
I've recently upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard by clean installing. Once I upgraded to Snow Leopard (10.6.3) everything seemed to work perfectly except for the new keyboard that I purchased (requires upgrade to 10.6.8). So as I upgraded to 10.6.8 by "Software Update…".
Once the update was completed and the machine restarted I've noticed when I opened opened couple of common sites in Safari (such as: Flickr, YouTube, and Amazon) and some of the images won't finish loading with a "?" in the middle where the image would be and browser assumes that the site was done loading. First I thought this was a refresh problem so I hit refresh on the browser but nothing really happened. I thought this was strange so I decided to download Google Chrome and Firefox to try it out as well. Same situation as well… Then I opened  the App Store and iTunes Store and the same things happened there as well. I'm assuming that all these images exists online so anything that access the web to load images will just crap out. One odd thing is that this problem don't seem to happen on any of the sites on Apple when I view it in the web browsers.
I couldn't figure out the reason so I decided to reinstall Snow Leopard (10.6.3) again by cleaning out the hard drives as before. Once it finished installing I opened up iTunes Store and Safari and the images loads fine. So went ahead (crossing my fingers) to "Software Updates…" to 10.6.8 and the the problem happened again.
I naively went ahead and tried to clean installing it again, thinking "Third time is the charm!" But same situation once I upgrade to 10.6.8. After the third time I let the browser sit there after it didn't load those images. I waited about five minutes and hit refresh and the images loaded. This happened the same with App Store and iTunes Store images as well. This is very odd because my interment connection hasn't been a changed before I upgraded to 10.6.8. Seems like browsers just cuts off the loading time of the whatever that's lagging instead on that site.
Is there a solution in the preferences for this or is this some kind of a bug that I'm having with my OS disc or network card? I don't think this has nothing to do with my modem or my interment service because it was working fine before I upgraded to 10.6.8.

I get that same problem too-you could try checking your network settings, release and renew your IP address, see if that helps. There is a tweaking menu you can get in Firefox that can help somewhat (google Firefox tweaks) but you'd have to raise the hood in FF and tinker a bit, but it does help. How much RAM do you have on your Mac Pro?, also update your Java and shockwave
sorry I can't be of more help

Same here on my lpad2. Can access the web just fine from browsers but cannot install new apps or updates in appl store.  Seeing a few others reporting same issue tonight so likely an apple server issue and staff will notice it in network monitors and fix it...sometime this weekend.
