App store categories

How can I change the category in the app store from games to productivity? In the app store clicking the lower categories button takes me to games, and there is no list to select another category. The upper left button only allows for game subcategories... What am I missing? Thanks...

are you accessing through iTunes? if so, is there a little left pointing triangle at the top of the iTUnes window? that's your 'back' button within iTunes.

Apple App Store "Categories" wont load !

The Apple App Store(INDIA) refuses to show categories on my ipod touch. When I tap the category pane in the appstore , it shows a blank area(it does not load the categories list) . At first I thought it must be some connectivity issue or something. But looks like many users are facing this problem. Whats more interesting is , all other countries App store displays categories list and works fine on my ipod except for my country's. What is wrong . how do i fix it ??
PS : Apart from categories , other panes such as "featured" , "top 25" , "search" , "update" everything loads fine ..
Any help would be appreciated !

IOS 5 Bug in app store Categories button

In app store.app, after entering top charts, repeting touch the categories button, everytime it has been repeted instead of just doing the first time! This problem allso existed in other aspects of the ios 5 system.

Ok correction: this problem has occurred only once. That I found nothing can be clicked in app store.app. But right after I quit and get back, everything looks fine. Dont know why it happened at first, even dont know wheter it will happen again.

App Store Categories error

Whenever i go to app store and go into categories all the options have the skype icon and say app store. I have done a reset and a full restore neither of which fixed it. I phoned apple support and they had no idea how to fix it, they told me the best that they could do was send it away for a repair. Has anyone else encountered this problem and found a solution or any other information on it?

On second thought.... don't follow these instructions.... it may appear to work, but its actually showing you the US store... (Noticed this because Pandora is listed, and its a US only music app)
When you try and purchase anything, it says your account is only valid with the Canadian store, and not valid with the US store.
Tried to go to settings to fix it, but it also gives the US store error, and wont let me in.
Synching with iTunes puts you back to the Canadian store, and also brings back the Categories issue... Guess we'll have to wait for apple to fix their Canadian store.

ITunes App Store - Categories Issue

When I am searching in iTunes for new iPhone apps, after I select any category, I just get a blank window. Any suggestions as to how to correct this?

This is true for global categories throughout all applications. But first of all those categories are "hidden" in the menue, so a lot of users will most likely not recognize the availability of the categories in this menu bar.
But the the next problem, and this is much worse, the subcategories for games (i.e. action, rpg, puzzle, ...) are totally gone from the appstore pages. This is a very bad thing for developers and users alike. With over 20.000 games and over 70.000 apps in the store I was very much hoping for a great improvement in usability and app visibilty with itunes 9. The sad thing now is that the opposite became reality.
If I am able to find the games category in the menu, then I am greated the two top apps bars (free and nonfree) and for the rest, well welcome to (right now) 657 pages of games. This not satisfying at all.

Cannot connect to app store categories or top 25 on iphone

My iphone 4s just started acting a little strange a couple days ago. I can connect to itunes and I can see "featured" I can Search, i can get updates, but when i click on the "categories" or "top 25" tab it gives me the "cannot connect to itunes store" error. Has anyone experienced this.
I've tried signing out of itunes on my phone, signing in again, reset all settings, reset network settings, restored from a backup, but nothing fixes this.
I guess if I "set up as new phone" it might fix this but I hate to have to go through this process as I have my phone set up the way i want it and that involves resyncing all apps, setting up new folders, signing into my accounts, all to fix something relatively small.
Does anyone have an easier fix for this? Much appreciated if you do.

No icons in App Store Categories

Hello,
A few days ago all of a suddent my icons from under the AppStore's top level Categories have disappeared. The only icons I have showing is for the 'Games' and 'Books' section. However, when I go into a sub-level category I have ll the icons for the individual apps. Only the very top level categories section have no icons.
I've found a thread where ppl complained that their icons became all the same. The only way it's different that I don't have any icons showing. Not even a blank placeholder.
Since it happened a few days ago, I don't remember if this was happening after downloading and installing an update of a program, or after syncing, or simply just out of the blue. No cold/hard or any kind of reset or signing in/out of the AppStore helps.

App Store categories displaying incorrect icons/tumbnails.

Anybody have any ideas? Or experiencing the same issue?
After the OS 3.1 upgrade all category icons are gone and displaying as the first icon in the games category. I've tried doing a restore and it fixes it for a short time but then back to the same issue.
What gives? I thought this upgrade was Beta tested for weeks? What is everyone testing if Apple can't seem to release a reasonably bug free firmware? Seriously, this is a joke! It's problem after problem with this new iPhone 3GS and it's so called firmware updates! Enough, I'm going back to Blackberry where at least their customers are supported and emails were returned from BB. Not a single email to Apple has EVER been returned to me.
Apple, remove the "contact us" link from your website - It's not like you care anyway! I've lost faith in Apple...

BB's are far from stable.. my friend works for a US carrier and over the years has had many versions of the BB and currently has the storm...He has to hard reset a couple times a week to cure the phone after freezing up, it's been replaced under warranty and still the new one does the same...His girl also has the storm and has the same issue, his mother has a different BB version and has to reset it also here and there...
No device will be free of defects in OS versions...although BB doesn't release updates as often, that could also be because over the course of the history of RIM there hasn't been a need to...they haven't changed features or function much at all until the storm platform and what do you know...it's very buggy
I almost share your frustration when it comes to numerous updates...to keep up with simple demand of use the iPhone creates by having so many users, waiting sooo long for an update that would fix certain bugs is simply not an option I'd ever want to see from Apple...
For example when the binary code Hack through SMS was discovered...would you rather Apple have waited until they rolled that into the next "Major" release as you put it...I for one wanted the 3.0.1 even though 3.0 had just released and knowing 3.1 was forthcoming.
All said, glad to hear Apple is aware and your resolve is on its way...

App Store Icons all the same

After going to 3.1, all the App Store "Categories" have the same icon, and the same text "App Store" , and when selecting any of these, the content seems to all point to the Games category.
Cause / reason / solution ??

We definitely have to make this an issue. I'm guessing we're not the only ones..... It happened right after I installed a new app. Then all of a sudden all the icons and titles under the category tab became the same. And they all point to games. Sometimes if I loaded a different application then went back to the app store it would work. But not it fails 100% of the time

Every time I click on the Categories tab or Top 25 tab in the app store, it says 'too many http redirects'

Every time I open the app store on my iPod touch, it says 'too many http redirects' whenever I click on the Categories and Top 25 tabs. I tried force quitting the app store, that didn't work. I tried closing all windows in Safari and force quitting safari, also didn't work. I reset the network settings, that didn't work either. When I reset all settings, it appeared to work. The tabs were different (it had a Genius tab), but it worked. However, immediately after force quitting the app store (I force quit a lot to keep as much RAM clear as possible), the same thing happened again. Does anyone know a permanent, Apple-supported solution to this problem? And please do not say restoring it. I don't want to start from scratch just to potentially experience the same problem.

On my iPad 2 I cannot click on an app in the app store or click on different app categories. What should I do????

When I go into the app store on my iPad 2 I can't click on apps to view them nor can I click on different app categories. What is wrong and what should I do???

Try closing the App Store app completely and see if it works properly when you re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with App Store 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the App Store app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

ITunes App Store no "Categories" menu?

Every category within the iTunes store has its own landing page, complete with a menu of top-level categories. Music and Movies has a Genres menu. Podcasts has a Categories menu. Audio Books has a "Popular Authors" menu where Genres ought to be (huh?) and what does the App Store have?
"App Store Quick Links", with such relatively arbitrary categories as "Comics", "Summertime", and "Zombies!".
Once all of my Zombie needs have been met, what if I'm looking for actual top-level categories such as Productivity, Weather or Business? The most consistent, intuitive thing would be to have a Genres/Categories menu like every other section, putting the user one click away from the content they're looking for.
There ARE methods of getting to specific app categories, but none of them meet the guidelines that Apple itself set out for app designers, such as not making users feel like they have to visit too many screens to go to the content they want, or using the left pane to provide users with a persistent menu of top-level categories. If the iTunes version of the App Store was up for review, it might well get rejected!
(Even the App Store on the iPhone/iPad, the most intuitive App Store interface of the lot, chooses to make top-level categorical content two "clicks" in, instead of one.)
Somewhere there's a UI developer pulling her hair out because Sales&Marketing thinks more apps would be sold if there was a "Zombies!" category where "Education" or "Travel" ought to be.

iTunes apps are for iOS devices such as iPads, iPhones, and the iPod touch.
Apps you download from the Mac App Store are for the Mac OS X.

Hi, I need help. I only learnt to turn it on yesterday. My hub and I bought two phones. His has a problem.
When you go to the app store he does not have the bottom menu which has Featured, Categories, Top 25, Search, Updates.

Categories in App store empty?

Hi!
Just got my new ipod touch 8 GB and very pleased. Until yesterday, I would go in the categories in the App store and there would be, well, all sort of categories (games, movies, etc.) now it is empty and I don't know why. Any help out there?

Same things happen here! The categories in the iPhone app store becomes blank since Friday afternoon. I am in Hong Kong and this happens to the Hong Kong, Taiwan, China iTune stores. I also login to the US and Japan stores, but they were both fine!
This especially impact me because I am an iPhone app developer and my app was on the top paid app list of travel. Suddenly, people loss direct access to my app in the store through browsing!
Hope Apple notice and fix this problem soon!

in iTunes for Windows, I go to the App Store dropdown and select a category and It comes up with a blank screen.
Podcasts, Music, etc. work fine for categories, it's just the
