App store continues to show items already updated

The App Store app is proving to be majorly annoying.  No matter what I do, some applications continue to show needing updating hours after I've already updated them.  I've deleted caches, I've rebooted multiple times, I've had the app find the individual applications in the Finder only to confirm that they are the version already updated.
Is there some way to get this to stop.  This has been a recurring problem since the App Store first went live.  I've deleted the apps installed and then reinstalled them with no luck.  This has persisted from 10.6.8 all the way to 10.7.3.
Any known solutions?

Carolyn,
Thanks for the suggestion.  Alas, nothing works.  First I delete the cache in the com.apple.appstore folder.  I rebooted.  The App Store app still shows 7 apps needing updating - all of which I updated yesterday and have confirmed are the versions they are supposed to be.  Then, I took the App Store icon on the dock, dropped it into the trash, dragged the App Store icon from the Applications folder to the dock.  I rebooted.  After all this, the same 7 applications still show up as needing updating.  So, just for grins and giggles, I updated them again.  Of course, after updating them again, exiting the App Store, and then returning, the same 7 apps show that they are in need of updating.
This is maddening.

  • Mac App Store doesn't show OS X updates

Since I upgraded to Mountain Lion in July, the Mac App Store has stopped showing updates for OS X. It shows normal app updates like Evernote but it didn't notify me for the 10.8.1, the 10.8.2 and the recent Supplemental Update. This happens even after days that the updates are released. I discovered that there were updates available from news sites.
I contacted Apple Support but I was quite rudely shut up. The guy at the phone told me that "this is normal" and that Apple "is not obliged" to issue a notification for all the system updates. I told him that all my Mac-owners friends could download the updates from the App Store but he told me that "they were lying" to me. I was so aghast at his response that I didn't started laughing in his face as he probably deserved. I will find a way to get back to him via an official complaint to his superiors, that's for sure.
Can anyone help me with the Mac App Store issue, anyway? Currently I'm forced to download the updates manually from Apple's site.
Thanks in advance for the support!

It's possible you have a problem with your system. I've had this same issue with Lion. Eventually, I bit the bullet and did a scratch reinstallation which seemed to fix things. But there may have been less invasive solutions I just did not think of or find. So you might start with the following:
Boot into Safe Mode then restart normally.
Download a utility such as Mountain Lion Cache Cleaner and use to clear out user, system, and font caches. Restart is immediately required.
    Reinstall OS X.
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • App Store doesn't show size of updates?

Hi all.  I am new to Mountain Lion today, and just discovered that Software Update now runs through the App Store application.  No problems there, but I cannot see how to check the size of an update except for individually following the many "More" links throughout each update description.  I gather unlimited Internet may be the norm in the USA, but over here in Australia we are often quite limited.  I need to download large updates at off peak times or I will hit my quota and be shaped to very slow speeds for the rest of the month.
Is there any easy way to check the size of updates in Mountain Lion?
    Thanks.
    Ivan

Thanks sig, I've voted that as a helpful answer.  I couldn't say it completely solved my problem, as in my opinion it is definitely not easy or convenient to search through that list of every update under the sun.
However, at least the list you have referenced does contain sizes in the summary. Some of the other answers (in related threads) suggest things like clicking on the "more" page, and I've been dismayed to find that Apple has stopped posting sizes on many of those pages.
From my perspective, Apple has taken away a very important part of the software update process so I have sent in some feedback at http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html.  Of course I would rather have an unlimited plan from my ISP and not have to worry about this stuff but that's not the reality here in Australia.

  • How to upgrade to aperture 3.5 when the app store does not show the update. I did buy aperture 3 on DVD not thru the app store. what to do?

I can not open aperture databases anymore as osx10.9 keeps telling me i have opened it with a newer version, which i have not but i understand from other discussions that thru the upgrade of iphoto osx automatically thinks that you have opened with aperture 3.5. the app store does not show me the update as i have not purchased the program thru the app store but on dvd. what to do?

If you are running MacOS X 10.9 and Aperture is installed in your Applications folder and simply called Aperture, not Apertre 3 or something, the AppStore should be showing you the update.
Have you already updated to Aperture 3.4.5 from the Support page  Aperture 3.4.5?
Try to update manually to 3.4.5 and then reboot and sign again into the AppStore with your AppleID and look at the Update page.
For some forum members it helped to set the main system language to English U.S. to make the update finally show.

  • App Store keeps asking to update items already updated succesfully

I have been updating various packages after installing Mavericks on a Late 2010 MacBook Pro.  After "some time" passes....  the App Store decides I need to re-update things.....  it even show in the lower window of recent updates that the items it is asking for has already been updated.  This is very odd stuff.  I first started to notice this when Iphoto, Pages..... etc etc started popping up as NOT updated even though they where and worked just fine.  I made the mistake of starking to click on the update link for iphoto and once I did that I could not cancel and had to do it all over again.  This is definetly a bug.

If you're having problems with the App Store you might try this:
1 - enable the Debug menu in App Store:
    open the Terminal application.
copy the command below and paste into the Terminal window:
defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -bool true
    followed by Enter.
    launch App Store, login.
2 - select the Debug ➙ Reset Application option:
3 -check to see if the updates are still being reported.

    Hello bananasareyellow,
Please try remove the old Azure SDK from control panel and reinstall with the new package:

I saw a related thread from here:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/29281710/azure-sdk-2-5-1-fails-to-publish-cloudservice
If the problem cannot be resolved, please reopen a new case on Azure related forum. The azure sdk is not installed within Visual Studio Setup. It is standalone so you need to post on specific forum for help.

Okay - let's cut to the chase...
If the Menu Bar (File, Edit... Help) shown in my screenshot below is not visible, use CTRL+B to display it. Then click on Help/Check for Updates. If one is available, you will be able to select it at this time.
Note the item at the bottom of the list; About iTunes. Selecting that will show you which version of iTunes you are using.
An alternative method to display the Menu Bar is click on the box in the top left of your iTunes window...

ipad app store no longer shows updates. was working fine until a couple days ago - whwt can I do?

If you are getting the blank app update screen, many people are having this problem over the last couple of days.
According to Fly150 in another discussion, this will work.
If you want to update the Apps while waiting for Apple to fix Updates:
    1. Go to App Store
    2. Select Purchased
    3. Select All
    4. Scroll down to find the Apps showing update
    5. Select update on the Apps
This should update the Apps and get rid of the update count in App Store. Apple needs to fix this. It is a workaround only until then.

  • HT204266 app store continually shows '1' but all apps up to date

I have an iPhone 3GS, after installing Real Racing 2, after installing version 1.13.01 (H491), the Apple Apps store continually re-displays a '1' notification, even if I go in to it, it shows 'all apps up to date', has anyone else had this problem?  I have not contacted firemint yet, does installing iOS 5 fix this problem?

Tried that, tries a soft reset, and a hard reset, no luck.  Funny thing is, my other iphones and IPad work fine, its just the Iphone 5.

Why don't you explain what happens when you try to delete these two apps that are showing that they need updates. You can only delete them if they are actually installEd on the iPad. Are they on the device?

After updating to Mavericks the apps store gives me the message "This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled."  How do I still update apps such as iphoto??

What happened was you never accepted these apps into your Mac App Store account.
Drag & drop the apps in the Trash and use OS X Recovery to install them again. after installing the apps be sure to accept them into your account this time from the Purchases pane of the Mac App Store.

    hienn,
Not yet. There was an upgrade page to 10.8.2 for the late 2012 models but it's down now. I have to assume that Apple pulled it because of some bugs. I would look for something next week, more likely than not. In the meantime, the OP should be good with 10.8.1 until the update shows up again.
