Mac App Store: Update applications

  • App Store doesn't recognise that I have apps installed already

At first App Store managed to recognise a bunch of apps which I already have installed and registered on my iMac. But sometimes I come across apps it hasn't recognised, and then after I open the apps and update them (outside AppStore) AppStore then manages to recognise that I have these apps installed (However, I usually have to relaunch AppStore for this to happen).
But now I have come across some apps which I own and have registered, but AppStore doesn't recognise them, and when I inspect them, I do have the latest version or I do update to the latest version, but AppStore still doesn't recognise them!
Examples are Bento, ScreenFlow, and others. I want to be able to update using AppStore, but I can't, and yet these apps are in the store and are the same versions I have.

The Mac OS X 10.6.7 Update Combo does not "have fixes that were not included in the original v10.6.7" update Delta. The Delta and the Combo were released together. Software Update has the ability to provide the Delta or the Combo based on the detected installed version of Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6. The Update Combo has the ability to bring any installed version of Mac OS X 10.6 to 10.6.7, whereas the Update Delta is limited to bringing an installation of 10.6.6 to 10.6.7. As such the Update Combos are a general troubleshooting step that have been known to possibly "fill in the gaps" of someone's current installation.
Señor Kappy, that Mac Update link does not have the MAS as a stand alone download. If you click Download it takes you to this Apple website; http://www.apple.com/mac/app-store/ On this site Apple explains that to get the MAS you need Mac OS X Snow Leopard and encourages someone to buy and update their OS. Or instructs them to run Software Update to update their current installed version of Snow Leopard to 10.6.7 when the MAS will be installed as part of the update.

  • Mac App Store doesn't recognise my Apple ID as I had a hard drive replaced. Any ideas?

I've just tried to access Mac App Store but it doesn't recognise my Apple ID. It's fine when I signed in to this forum and on my purchases of iTunes on my Mac but not App Store. Also, can't download iCloud, it's showing MobileMe.

    Yes - that's correct.
I did attempt Apple’s Internet Recovery system, but that failed dramatically, as I couldn't get an Internet connection or get to the Apple logo when pressing Command and R keys at the startup.
This evening I visited the Apple Store and installed the OS via Apple's Network using a RJ45 cable.
    Thanks all for your responses.

  • App Store doesn't recognise or respect language versions

This morning I purchased Mavis Beacon as it was featured on the main page. The process of buying was easy. The download took quite a while, but installation was smooth. The program itself is great.
However, it turns out that there is also an International version for those who own a British keyboard or prefer British spelling. I have contacted the developer to see if it is possible to change to the other version. Where do Apple stand on this issue? Both versions cost the same, and it is a fundamental error on Apple's part. I would expect the App Store to recognise which country I am in, and not waste time second guessing if I have the correct version of an app.
Can I get a refund if the developer isn't able to provide the "correct" version free of charge?

What you are expecting is a bit sophisticated for something like an app store. Did you actually visit the app's page, because there is a notice which I immediately saw when I visited the page.
NOTE: This edition was developed for US QWERTY and DVORAK keyboards. For British keyboards, look for the International Edition of Mavis Beacon -- also in the Mac App Store.
In the future visit the app's page where you can see detailed information, links to the developer's website and read the app reviews of other users.

  • App store doesn't recognize already purchased apps

I had to rebuild my computer. After going to the App store, and after logging in it doesn't recognize I've already purchased a number of apps (including Mountain Lion, Pages, Keynote, etc.).
In the past, after logging in it would say "Install" on the price button. Now it says the price (eg. $19.99) and then says, "Buy App" if I click it.
I need to know how to download these various apps without having to repay.

I had to rebuild my computer.
Try using Mountain Lion Recovery to reinstall OS X.
That will also reinstall the App Store for you.
If you have anti virus software installed, disable that before downloading apps from the App Store.
And try turning off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall
How to re download apps from the Mac App Store:
Open the App Store. From the menu bar click Store > Sign In
Click Purchases from the top of the App Store window.
Select which apps you want to re download. Then right or control click where you see Installed  then click Install.
Make sure and use the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.

  • App Store doesn't recognise iWork apps as installed in 10.6.7

After updating to 10.6.7, App Store no longer marks my Pages etc. as 'Installed' but instead lists the normal prices. Is there anything I should do to make sure updates will be installable?

The original Mac App Store app had a bug. The new version that is installed with the 10.6.7 update has fixed the bug.
The original version mistakenly recognized apps obtained through channels outside of the MAS as installed when it should not have recognized them. Only apps bought through the MAS should show in the MAS as Installed. Any apps obtained outside the MAS should show with a price and be available to obtain through the MAS.
Purchasing an app through the MAS makes that app eligible for updates through the MAS. If it was obtained outside the MAS then one would have to get any updates also from outside the MAS. But some developers are opting to use the MAS as their sole distribution channel from this point forward. If that is the case, then there would be no further updates available from outside the MAS.

  • Purchased Aperture 3 pre-app store, doesn't register as 'purchased'???

I bought a new laptop and am trying to install Aperture 3.5, but I originally bought Aperture 3 before the advent of the App Store.
Now, there is not even an option to download the trial version (I have the activation code/SN).
What do I do? I will switch to Lightroom if Apple won't let me download without buying another copy... Very frustrating reward after just dropping $3k on a new MBP.
    Thanks for any help.

Apple stated that it "should be showing up", although it wasn't. Apple did fix this problem by updating my account to reflect that I own the current version of Aperture (3). This is a pro app, I use it professionally, and it was the right thing for them to do.
Clearly, Duh•veed has some kind of latent axe to grind over an old issue with other software, with regard to other apps or something. Whatever. I don't know what his problem is, but thankfully Apple handled it much more gracefully.
In sum, if you have this problem, you will need to provide proof that you own Aperture. I provided screen shots of my email receipt with name and S/N, my 'About Aperture' window with my name and S/N, and a clear request.
    This was their reply:
    Hello Sarge,
Thanks for getting back to me.
Please be advised that when you first open the Mac App Store in OS X Mavericks, it will check to see if you have a DVD-installed or bundled version of these Apple apps:
       •  Aperture 3.x
       •  iMovie ’11
       •  iPhoto ’11
       •  Keynote ’09
       •  Numbers ’09
       •  Pages ’09
If the apps are found, they'll be listed with any other available Mac App Store updates, and you’ll be prompted for your iTunes Store password before they download.
If you don't see any of the apps, go to the App Store toolbar. Under the tab Updates, choose Update All.
If your computer came pre-installed with the Apple Apps, you’ll need to accept the software before you can install the available updates:
    1. From the App Store toolbar, click Purchases.
    2. Next, in the Apps to Accept area, click Accept.
If you don’t see the Accept button or you’re receiving an error, reply with this information:
    1. Your computer’s serial number
    2. The names of the Apps you are trying to accept
    3. If you received an error message when trying to accept the apps, the full text of the error message.
Thanks in advance for your patience while we work together to resolve this issue. Have a good day!

  • App Store doesn't recognize my purchased Final Cut Pro app

In February, my logic board was replaced, and the App Store sees my laptop as a new computer, so it's no longer recognizing some (but not all) of my purchased apps. I purchased Final Cut Pro via the App Store in December. The installed version runs fine, but the App Store won't update it to the latest version (10.2). The "Buy" button in the App Store says "Install," but when I get an error message that reads "Final Cut is already installed on this computer. Choose Software Update from the Apple menu to check for available updates." But there isn't a Software Update command in the Apple Menu anymore -- just a link back to the App Store, which won't help me! How do I get the App Store to let me install the new version?

Should I delete any/all copies of the app and then download a fresh copy from the App Store?

  • App store doesn't show Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 as purchased and will resell it to me has anyone else noticed this?

The Apple app store doesn't show Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 as purchased and will resell it to me. I bought this computer (early 2011 macbook pro 17 in) new in oct 2011 it came with Lion installed has anyone else noticed this?

Barney,I did as you suggested and emailed app store support qutioning why the app store didn't recognize my OS LION software as purchased even though all of the iLife apps that came bundled with it are recognized as PURCHASED and here was the email response from robert@ the app store....< I understand that you are trying to re-install the OS X Lion as you had a Hard Drive crash but it is not showing as purchased from your Mac App Store purchase pane.
As the Mac OS X Lion was pre-installed to your computer , it will not be recognized as purchased in the Mac App Store, and because of that it is not available fro re-download for free. Also, computers that come preinstalled with Lion do not ship with the disk.
Dana, not worry as OS X Lion has a self recovery feature.

  • Hi I have just upgraded my macbook to Maverick, but the Apps store doesn't connect to the dutch store/ apps, and I can't see my previous purchased apps as on my iPad, any idea ? thanks

Hi I have just upgraded my macbook to Maverick, but the Apps store doesn't connect to the dutch store/ apps, and I can't see my previous purchased apps as on my iPad, any idea ? thanks

Are you expecting to see the apps that you can see on the iPad, on the Mac?
iOS apps which run on your iPad and use the iOS operating system, won't run on your Mac, which usues a different operating system, OS X.

I lost all my data when upgrading my iPad to iOs5.  App Store doesn't recognize that I already purchased pages.  What can I do other than repurchasing?

It shows "You do not have any purchased apps available to download"  Can I show apple the credit card receipts for apps purchased from them?  How would I find any previous account login info?

  • App Store doesn't know I already purchased, downloaded and installed Mountain Lion

I've have downloaded OS 10.8 Mountain Lion from the App Store on my iMac. It's downloaded and installed, but every time I open the App Store, and look at my purchases it still says I still have to download Mountain Lion. It's a small problem, but rather annoying. It there anyway for the App Store to know Mountain Lion is installed on the iMac?

No it is NOT telling you you HAVE to redownload it. It is giving you the opportunity to Re-Download it.

Do you see a price next to Lion ($29.99 or local equivalent)? Click that to purchase and download it. You'll have to sign in if you're not already.
Also, your profile is wrong if you don't already have Lion (which IS 10.7).

  • Mac App Store Doesn't Recognize Apps

I have a Macbook Pro which is almost three years old.  Applications like iLife and iWorks were installed on the computer long before there was the Mac Ap Store.  These apps, and others on my computer, do not show up as Instaled in the App Store so I can't update them unless I use the old Software Update or the vendor's site.  I don't want to purchase the apps again but is there any way to "register" these apps so the app store knows they are on my computer?
    Thanks,
    David

I have iLife 11 that I purchased on disk that is installed, but the App store doesn't recognize any of the iLife apps as being installed.
Everytime I run GarageBand it states there is a new version, but then Software Update says everything is up to date once it is run.
I have GarageBand 6.0 (427.17) at the moment, and the newest right now is 6.0.5
I haven't been able to update it.
    Any thoughts on this issue?

  • App store doesn't work after iOS6

App Store doesn't work after ios6. Re-booting doesn't work. Suggestions please.

I have the same problem with my New iPad.
It was fine until this afternoon when I upgraded to ios6.
I don't have the wifi issues that others have reported but my AppStore doesn't work anymore.
It's just the AppStore that won't work.
Though Purchased and Updates looks OK, "Featured," "Charts" and search all return no results - just a big gray screen in the middle.   I've been walked thru a Restore by Support but nothing's worked so far.  I've tried logging off and logging back on.
From what I can tell, everything else (iTunes, apps, etc) look ok.
    Any other suggestions?
