App Store Mainstage affected Logic Express 8
I downloaded Mainstage a few weeks ago and am very pleased with the purchase and it is working fine.
However I already owned logic 8 express, which has changed since the installation of mainstage. The presets have changed to suit mainstage's, taking many of my favourite presets away. This would be fine, except most of the presets now utilise Spacedesigner, which logic 8 express does not have. Each time I select one of these instruments/presets I get the error message Logic Express: Plug-in “SpaceDsn” not available!. It completely disrupts the creative flow and it is hard to tell which settings I can use and which I can't use.
Selecting Guitars is equally difficult. Most of the Main stage presets use pedalboard, which logic 8 express does not have.
Is there a way to tell logic the location of space designer? in the mainstage folder perhaps?
There is no way to get the missing effects and instruments into in older version of Logic or GarageBand. They are part of the application code.

I would trot back into the Apple store and have them fix the problem (or call Applecare with a warranty issue). There is no sense in you wasting your time trying to troubleshoot things on a new computer.

I'm trying to install Logic Pro on my new MacBook Air, and without a drive, it's going to take more work to install. I own the latest version, but I still need the discs to install from. Is there some way I can "upgrade" to the App Store version so installing now, and in the future, is easy to do without an external drive?

Just wait until the next major version of Logic becomes available (whenever that might be) and then when you pruchase that from the App Store, the issue of there being two different versions of Logic 9, will be over as everyone will have to purchase the new version via the App Store. -

Yeah, I have the project since I got the App Store download - there are some Logic synths, Ultrabeat and EXS24 tracks and also some audio tracks of bounced synth plug-ins or external instruments, so you can tinker with it to a reasonable degree. What I meant was that I haven't heard the released, mastered version of the song, which ought to sound better - its always interesting to look at other people's work, though.
There are a lot of vocal tracks, so I guess all the audio files for those make the project the size that it is. As I suggested before, a large enough memory stick should do, as long as the Apple Store staff are OK with it. -
App Store Logic Pro downloads content, then crashes
It's done this three times in a row
After downloading from the app store, I Launch logic pro, then:
-Content downloads
-Shows "Installing basic Content..."
-Progress dialog box closes
- Logic dissapears, apparently having crashed
- Relaunch Logic
- repeat
i've restarted the computer once. Just tried repairing permissions to see if that helps.

Why is Logic pro (downloaded from mac app store) asking me for a serial number?
I recently bought this mac and haven't had any previous downloads on it. I've managed to download and install logic pro as well as the 2GB "essential" add-on. As I clicked to download the additional 19GB of extras it asked me for a serial number that it says would be on my packaging. I obviously don't have this. I quit logic and tried to open it again and it is asking me for the serial number just to get into logic. Really stuck on this one.
It's compatible. Note that there's an App Store (for iPhones, iPads and iPods touch) and a Mac App Store (for Macs, available since Mac OS X 10.6.6). Just open the Mac App Store and purchase Logic Pro 9

I am about to purchase a used iMac. My main use is for producing music... I have Logic Pro 9.. which I downloaded from the app store... Now I think because of icloud purchases I could just open app store and download logic on the new computer... But Logic Pro X has been released... and I dont see logic 9 anywhere on the app store... !?!? Uh-oh.. What do I do?

Logic pro installations (pre-App Store)
I would like to install Logic Pro on my old (2006) Powerbook Pro however, the disk drives on those machines was notoriously unreliable, so I can't install from the disks (I purchased it as an upgrade from v8, prior to App Store downloads being available).
Can you offer any guidance as to whether the serial number can be recognised by the App Store, and then a copy downloaded. I assume that it's paired with my Apple I.D., but in the App Store, my only option appears to be to repurchase it. This isn't an option for me.

When you install Logic from the boxed set some files are created on your System HD that contain your serial (once you have entered it during the install proceedure)
When you go to update via the newly combined App Store and Software Updater mechanism the update routines check for those files containing the serial and allow you to download any updates if those files exists. No serial codes on your HD? No ability to download or update from the app store app without purchasing the App store version of Logic..
So, you cannot download a fresh copy of Logic from the App store without purchasing it... as doing so uses a different mechanism altogether...
So, how do you install your Logic Studio 2 Upgrade (Logic Pro 9) if your internal DVD has failed...?
Two methods...
Buy an external USB DVD from somewhere like Amazon for $30 and use that to install the Logic Studio 2 Upgrade package.. (It doesn't need the original Logic Studio 1/Logic Pro 8 DVDs.. just the Original LS1 Serial number followed by the LS2 upgrade serial number)
Use a friend's (or any other Mac ) computer to make disk images of your Logic Studio 2 DVDs to an external HD and then install from those images...
Once installed... then you can update using the App Store/Software Update method to the latest version for your PowerPC bearing in mind that Logic Pro 9 is now Intel Only so you can only update to a much older version these days...
It's also worth noting that the version of Logic Pro 9 for sale on the App Store is for Intel Only Macs... so that wouldn't be of any use to you anyhow...

I have logic express. is this the same?
I've currently got Logic Express 9 (9.1.7).
I purchased this a while ago.
Now all of a sudden i see on the Mac App Store, they have Logic Pro 9 (9.1.7). Is this the same program?
My icon for the app is Gold, but on the Mac App Store, it's silver. Mine is called Express, the mac app store is called Pro.
My big concern is that on the Mac App Store, it gives me the option to buy Logic Pro 9, it doesn't say I already own the program. This is what makes me think that it's a different program. And if they're dropping Logic Express, and going with Logic Pro, am I screwed out of a program? Am I going to have to shell out 200 bucks to have Logic Pro, instead of Logic Express, just so I can get updates?

Logic Studio doesn't exist in the Mac App Store, but you can buy Logic Pro (with all the content), MainStage and Compressor individually.

"Ages ago", that means: you bought the Logic Studio box in the Apple Store. This is not the Mac App Store, which carries Logic Pro since December 8th. So the answer is: no, you can't.

What does the Mac App store mean for existing users of Aperture?
I was wondering how the Mac App store will affect existing users of the software. I have purchased Aperture and upgrades since its launch but because I've not purchased through the App store, how will I gain access to future upgrades?
When I go to the Aperture app in the store it shows as being installed but as I've not purchased it through the store, will I be eligible for future upgrades or will Apple expect me to purchase again?There is no way Apple can update Aperture 3 without offering that update to every user, regardless of where the app was purchased. So, expect that Aperture 3.1.2 or whatever will be available to you in some fashion.
When the next paid Upgrade (to Aperture 4?) comes along, then we'll have to see what arrangements the offer.

Logic Express 8.0, should I re install?
Hi everyone, old guy, old equipment, not very techie but figure out what I need. I made the mistake of loading Logic on the desk top not in utilities. Worked fine for seven years but now I think it's corrupted. Now I keep having audio conflicts and processor spikes which interrupt recording and I am unable to get downloads that may fix the problem. I have original disk which has the second version should I uninstall the original and install the second version in utilities? All projects are on an external hard drive so aside from templates I shouldn't lose anything.

MacBook OSX 10.4.11, M-AUDIO 410, M-AUDIO M-TRACKOkay. When Software Update tells you that it can't find an eligible Logic Express application, that typically means that either the Logic folder is not where it belongs or it has been renamed. Make sure that the Logic folder (or package) is in your Applications folder (not nested inside another folder such as "Music Apps") and is named "Logic Express," not "Logic Express 8.1" or whatever. If it's not named properly SU won't see it.
If you are experiencing problems even after disconnecting the interface there may still be a driver conflict if you never uninstalled the M-A 410 driver. Also, check audio preferences in Logic . . . are you using your built-in audio output when mixing? . . . have you increased your buffer size to allow for smoother playback while editing? Playback will be glitchy if you try editing with too low a buffer size. You can lower the buffer size after editing to record with lower latency.
It wouldn't hurt to try deleting your LE preference file if you're comfortable with doing that. Go to your user library, e.g. Geo > Library > Preferences and delete "com.apple.logic.express.plist." Launch Logic after deleting this and it will simply create a new one. This often helps resolve issues.
I'm curious . . . do you use any other music apps, like GarageBand for example? If so, do you have audio issues with them also? -

from alex,Honestly? I hope not, because this forum would be overrun by newbies who take Logic for granted and don't consider it's a pro app with a steep learning curve. In this "brave new world" all the kids just no longer know how to spend time for even reading a simple manual, not to speak of the Logic user manual, which looks like rocket science to many of them, i assume.
Through all times, the art of making music, recording and mixing demanded time, effort, experience and patience. I learned it the hard way, and i really know what i got from Logic. It's fantastic. So i was willing to pay the price for it, because it's valuable for me.
Not that i want to be it expensive (i would like to have payed less, too), but i see the downsides, also. People who simply buy it because it's cheap (and not because they need it), but who don't know nothing about making music, recording and the most basic things and then run down the forum complaining how "complicated" this app is.
So, enough for the ranting. Surely i'd like to get the next version of Logic spending less money myself
