App store neither updating Numbers nor allowing purchase

Like many users I hadn't updated Numbers (showing as '09 2.3) , but had updated Pages.
After updating to Yosemite, Pages updated fine, but I get the 'update unavailable with this id' message that others have mentioned.
So of course I have been reading as many threads here as I can.
However I also have no option to purchase it, only to update, and I can't even hide the update badge by changing iWork Spotlight preferences, restarting, resetting pram, etc.  There isn't an 'accept' message in my ITunes account, and support either directs me back to this page, or offers a £25 genius bar fee - more expensive than repurchasing the App would be!
Any ideas - other than to keep using the old one which fortunately still works fine?
I can just about accept that I made a mistake by not updating it earlier, but then why can't I buy it? A Yosemite bug?
I think I got iWork with this iMac in 2011, though I also had it on my previous iMac.

Ok I found the solution to some of this.
I found in another thread that iWork is indexed, rather than each app.
What I did was: put the entire Applications folder from the hard drive into privacy in Spotlight preferences.
Reset the App store.
Removed the applications folder, but added iWork '09 folder, Keynote, and Pages ie all the iWork components.
App store then showed no updates available but that I could purchase Numbers.
I decided just to buy it again.

It obviously depends on what Mac you have.
Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
but nobody knows for how long it will be available.
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard.
To use iCloud you have to upgrade at least to Lion, but some functions are only available in Mountain Lion:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4759
You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:

  • Pages, Numbers and Keynote won't update.  App Store says update was applied, but when I open Pages/Number/Keynote, the version of  it shows the old version.

Pages, Numbers and Keynote won't update.  App Store says update was applied, but when I open Pages/Number/Keynote, the version of  it shows the old version.

When you updated, the old version remained on your Mac, in a subfolder within Applications named iWork '09.  Any icons you have on the Dock still point to that old version.  Try opening the Numbers that is located in your main Applications folder, not the one in the subfolder. If that works, then drag that one to the Dock.

You can probably change the ID in the "iTunes and App stores" settings on the iPad....click on the wrong account ID , select sign out, then log in with your own ID, I have not done this but I think it works.....
but I would be more inclined to to the factory reset and start afresh.

  • App Store keeps Crashing when trying to purchase Mountain Lion.

Help! I've tried everything. I am using a Mac OS X 10.6.8. I am trying to buy Mountain Lion off the app store to update my OS so I can purchase Pages but everytime I open the app store and click buy the color wheel starts spinning and the app store won't respond.I have to force quit everytime. I tried to purchase some free apps to see if they would work and I'm getting the exact same problem. I've researched several solutions and have had no luck. I called apple and they said it could be because everyone was updating their iphone so try at non peak hours I did that and still no luck. I don't think thats the problem anyway. Any solutions?

You could also try enabling the debug menu for the App Store, using the terminal command below:
In there it gives you the option to delete cookies and reset the app... This might help you.
Nobody knows for sure what these options do, but it has never caused me any problems. However, be very careful not to click around too much, it may damage your machine.
    Quit App Store.app
    Open Terminal
Type "defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -bool true" (without the quotations)
    Hit ENTER
    Relaunch App Store.app
Locate Menu and select the appropriate topic
    Close & relaunch App Store.
Fingers crossed it will work for you.

    Greetings Tostimonster,
After reading your post, it sounds like you are experiencing an error when attempting to install apps. You may want to consider resetting your device. This article provides detailed instructions for Restarting, and Reseting:
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
    How to restart
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
Drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.
    How to reset
You should reset your device as a last resort and only if you can't restart it.
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

  • App store - Error updating apps

When Mavericks came out, I did a clean install of the OS. The first thing I did upon logging in, was reverting iTunes back to 10.7 before I opened it so it wouldn't update my iTunes library files and make them incompatible with any version lower than 11 (I went backt to 10.7 some time ago).
However, this seems to cause a problem with the App store - specfically updating apps. Whenever I try to update anything, I get this error message:
After going to the purchases page, it then looks like this:
And so after trying to update it from the purchaes page, I still get this error message:
The only work around I have found to work is to update itunes to version 11, update the apps, then downgrade back to 10.7 again. This is a hastle so I'm wondering if there is an easier way. Obviously the app store in Mavericks needs iTunes 11 installed for it to work correctly - so I was thinking, was there a way to trick OSX into thinking that I have iTunes 11 installed when I actually have 10.7? I'm assuming there must be a file somewhere included in the version 11 install that the app store looks for to work with?
    Any advice/help would be appreciated!

Agreed. You're most likely putting the system to sleep while its trying to do those updates. Let them complete before closing the lid or shutting off the power.
Also check the sleep settings in the sys prefs under Energy Saver.
Make sure the CPU sleep is set to be long enough that it can complete the downloads before shutting down.

Settings>Store: Tap the AppleID and choose "Sign Out", it will then prompt you to sign in and you can use the new AppleID.
NOTE: Apps must be updated with the AppleID they were purchased under.

  • Apple Id is wrong in the App Store, cannot update apps.

I have an apple ID, which I have verified and matches both on my itunes and under my settings, itunes and apps. However when I go to my App Store to update my apps, it brings up the wrong apple ID, which is no longer my apple ID, and will not allow me to change it and update my apps. I have signed in and out multiple times with no success. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Anything Downloaded with a Particular Apple ID is tied to that Apple ID and Cannot be Merged or Transferred to a Different Apple ID

App Store says update available for iPhone app. Try to install and get the message "the item you are trying to buy is no longer available" for three apps in a row. Even when I go to the specific app and press Update, the update begins to install then aborts with this error message.iPhone 3GS running iOS 5.1.1. Also very long delay typing each keystroke in this message.

That error message is usually indicative of a problem with the App Store. If you look through the forums, you'll see that a number of people are experiencing the problem. Try again tomorrow.
