App store not supported?

I recently upgraded to the new OS X Version 10.9 on my MacBook Pro. Now for some reason I am unable to open up the App Store which I need to do as their updates/downloads available.  I get a message that says "You can't open the application "App Store" because it is not supported on this type of Mac."
Additionally if I go to System Preferences, then App Store.  There is a message that states  Software updates are available, but when I select Show Updates I get a message stating... "There is not application set to open the URL macappstore://showUpdatesPage?scan=true. Search the App Store for an application that can open this document or choose existing application on your computer."
I've tried to select App Store and that doesn't work.  What do I need to do?

Go get an external drive and back up everything on your internal drive. Preferrably two copies on two drives, at least one bootable. Only then should you think about messing with the operating system.
I suppose it is possible that you don't have a recovery partition, but it is unlikely. How old is your MacBook Pro (MBP)? What version of the operating system came with it?
If your MBP came with Mavericks, Mountain Lion, or even Lion, it should have a recovery partition. Recent MBPs also come with an emergency network-based recovery facility ("Internet Recovery").
If you have a very old (pre-Lion) MBP, I suppose it is possible that the upgrade to (whichever of Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks is the first you added) failed to create the recovery partition.

    I'm a US Citizen but I spent a significant amount of time working in Japan; therefore, I maintain a residence there. As a result I have both US and Japanese iTunes accounts. Switching back and forth between accounts on my iPhone works with no problem on my iPhone 3GS.
    Yesterday, I purchased a 64GB iPad 3G and logged into my Japanese iTunes account on the iPad, but when I go to the App Store, I get the message you posted about. At the very least, I should be able to download iPhone Apps from the Japanese store like I do on my iPhone.
    It is ridiculous that I can download Japanese iPhone apps in iTunes and sync them to my iPad but I can't download them from the store on my iPad. Come on Apple, fix this nonsense!

    Un-install according to the developer's un-install instructions.
    You do not need to use cleaning programs. They can destroy your computer operation as they may already have done.

    After un-installing, run this program to make sure you got all the pieces.

    Do a backup.
    Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
    Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
    If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

At some points it's a vicious circle because it asks for a password at key times when trying to correct the problem. Note that the new email address shows when I log into my Apple account and shows it was verified. For some reason the system isn't updating to the new email in ALL places.

  • Microsoft apps are not supported by Lion?

    Is it true microsoft apps are not supported by Lion? I just upgraded and now I'm getting a message my microsoft apps are no longer available. Any upgrades to bring them online?

    You have Office 2004 and that won't run on Lion. You have three options:
    1. Upgrade to Office 2008 or 2011
    2. Download the free Office suite Libreoffice
    3. Buy Apple's 'Numbers' (for spreadsheets), 'Keynote' (for Powerpoint) and/or 'Pages' (for word processing) programs from the App store.
    A fourth option would be to revert to Snow Leopard.

    This works for some users. Not sure why.

    Apple is having server problems affecting App Store, iTunes, iCloud, etc…
    Check the Apple Service Status(***) page… http://www.apple.com/support/systemstatus/ Wait for all systems to show green.
    Here is what Apple's message says…
    Multiple Store Services - All users are affected
         Customers may be unable to make purchases from the App Store, iTunes Store,
         iBooks Store, or Mac App Store.
    iCloud Mail - All users were affected
         Users may have been unable to access iCloud mail.
    iCloud Account & Sign In - All users were affected
         Users may have been unable to sign in.
    This means no downloads, updates, iCloud and other issues. You may get pop-up windows asking you for password for iCloud, etc…
    Try again after it's all green on status page.

    I was successfully creating Windows Store Apps using Visual Studio 2013, using my dev account. VS has recently re-registered my ID as well.
    Today, any Strore App (including "Mail", "Store", "PC Settings"...) not running nor any of project is not launching when I start debugging. It gives dialog as shown below. Also, as the app starts showing as installed in the
    start screen, when I tap it there, it doesn't run. Just splash screen flashes for a few seconds and then disappears.

  • Mac App Store not accepting my login details. Help!

    For some reason, after updating to 10.6.8 for the upcoming release of Lion. I could not download any apps and every time I attempted to login it prompted me "Your device or computer could not be verified. Contact support for assistance." I can confirm that I am entering the right password since it works perfectly on iTunes, that I deleted the preferences com.apple.storeagent.plist and com.apple.appstore.plist, and that I never installed Fruit Menu or APE.

    Don't count on cust support . . .
    Same problem, multiple times.  It keeps wanting me to reenter my credit card info (all I want is a free app) and then when I DO enter it I get the "technical difficulties, try later" message.
    I tried the app store/itunes support link (apparently they are the same thing) and the response/form letter I got back was all about iTunes (which I clearly indicated was working fine for me) and didn't give any clue about my problem with "technical difficulties" logging into the App Store.  So I wrote back pointing out that they didn't even come close to answering my question . . . and got another form letter on how to PAY to get support . . . all I wanted to do was download a free app from the mac store.
    I'm going to give them a week or so to iron out the obvious bugs in their "new" toys and then try again.  I do have applecare with my new mac so if all else fails I better be able to get help through them . . . but this is VERY annoying.
    Please post back if any of you have better luck!

    I wanted to browse on the iTunes Store on my iPad. It opened but the screen was blank. Nothing came up even when it had fully loaded. This was the same with the App Store too. I have tried to restart it and reset it but its still the same. Is there any solutions to this?

    App Store not working

    FYI.  Super annoying that I had to do this, but I factory reset my phone and set it up as a new phone and that solved the problem.  That is a little less of a pain for me since I have all my contacts sync'd with gmail so they all just pop back up when I add that account on my phone.
    App store working like a champ for now.

    Ok Applecare Senior Advisor Tad just confirmed with me that the problem people are having with the App Store not loading is an apple issue with there servers, ITS NOT YOUR IPAD so don't go restoring it!   It's not happening to everyone however but they are looking into it, its really hit or miss.  He said it should only be a 24 hour or so problem then everything should be up and running again.  i have two new ipads and 2 iphone 4's and everythng works fine but my ipad (figures).  They are actually going to be calling me tomorrow to follow up on the issue.  I will let everyone know if I hear more!

    And just so everyone knows this started for me late last night.  I shut my device off this morning hoping it would be working this morning, but not luck obviously.  So I kept researching all the forums, googling, and searching on twitter for solutions or possible solutions.  I tried everything, hard reset, changing date, signing in/out, you name it I did it EXCEPT for a restoration.  Now the first woman I spoke to from applecare this morning walked me through all these steps (even though I had already tried them).  She told me to do a restore and start as a new device.  Well before I had even spoken with her I read several places that people had already tried doing the restores and it didn't work so I wasn't going to listen to her and I didn't do it.  So I called back applecare and finally got transfered to Tad and (sorry in advance Tad!!) I basically lied to him and told him that I DID DO a restore even though I had in fact didn't.  So that's when he put me on hold and basically spilled his guts that it was the apple servers.  So i asked if I had to restore my device again or anything and he said no and that it would take about 24 hours or so for the problem to be fixed and then he procedded to take down my number and said he would call me tomorrow to find out how I my device was doing.  So keep posting to the forums folks!! They are listening, he said he had started to see a number of complaints coming in on this topic.  And by the way this is my first time posting in the Apple forums, I hope I at least helped some of you out!!!

    Mountain Lion is an early Christmas present!  I really apprteciate the upgrade.  BUT, Notes, are a very big disappointment.  It is now at times slow as molasses, and reasonably fast at others, and that's on the Mac! It appears to be using the iOS eng
