App store notifications

when i open an app such as facebook, msn, or even the app store, there is a notification feature. but i have to open the app first to discover if there any notifications, instead of it telling me(which it does once i close the app). i was just wondering whether theres something wrong with the ipod, or whether it's normal?

You may have Notifications turned off. Check in your settings pane on the iPod Touch.
Notifications
This setting appears when you’ve installed an application from the App Store that uses
the Apple Push Notification service.
Push notifications are used by applications to alert you of new information, even when
the application isn’t running. Notifications differ depending upon the application, but
may include text or sound alerts, and a numbered badge on the application icon on
the Home screen.
You can turn notifications off if you don’t want to be notified or want to conserve
battery life.
Turn all notifications on or off: Tap Notifications, then turn notifications on or off.

  • How do I get rid of App Store notification for a software update that does not conform to the OS that I am using?

I am using Snow Leopard and have no wish to upgrade to Lion.  App Store notification indicates that there is an iPhoto 11 update available.  When I try to update, the error message indicates that I need Lion to download the update.  The notification red circle with the one in it sits attached to the App Store icon and will not go away.
I know that Apple knows that I'm on Snow Leopard, so why bother sending me and update notification that is irrelevant to me.
Any solutions to getting rid of the red circle on the App Store icon?
    Thanks in advance,
    Sateach

  • Can't Get Mac App Store Notifications Working

I've noticed recently that I've stopped seeing the red notification icon pop-up on my Mac App Store dock icon as it should be doing. I also haven't seen any Mac App Store notifications pop-up in the Notifications Center for quite some time as well.
However, if I open the Mac App Store, it acknowledges available updates and shows the red icon at that point. Once available updates are installed, the red icon dissapears as expected.
I've confirmed this issue does not occur in a new user account and I've tried, with no success, to remove the App Store .plist files from my user library folder, from both the Preferences folder and the Cookies folder, then restarted the computer.
I'm wondering if there is some other settings file somewhere that could be affected in some way and causing this issue.
    Any suggestions?

    Check System Preferences->Spotlight->Privacy and see
if your boot volume is listed.
Something that can sometimes cause all manor of strange
issues with the MacApp Store is if the boot volume somehow
got listed in the privacy pane.  The MacApp Store app uses
    Spotlight data to dertermine updates.

  • App Store notifications not going away - what to do?

iPhone 3Gs.  App Store on the phone shows three apps in need of updating, but those apps have been updated in iTunes, and the phone has synched several times since then.  Why are the notifications not going away, and is ther a way to sort this out (without having to update the apps on the phone - they are on different accounts, and it is a pain to have to log in again for each app).

Apple has had an issue earlier with the iTunes Store and various aspects of it's operation. It's mentioned here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/systemstatus/
It may take awhile for it to totally clear though.
In the meantime, try the following: Shut down the App Store/ iTunes Store apps from the Multitasking bar:
1.From the Home screen, double-tap the Home button, find the iTunes Store/App Store apps (drag the icons left/right) and swipe up on their respective screen captures, NOT on the icons at the bottom. This will close them.
    2. Wait about one minute for the apps to close off
    3. Reset the device:
    Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
    1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
    2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
    3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.
After the reset, try to open the Apps Store and see if the updates notification has cleared.

  • App Store notifies updates for not installed app?

    Hello,
I keep getting an update notification for an app not installed (anymore? I can't rememeber if I ever installed it) on my MBP.
Is there a way to hide/override it?
I already tried cleaning App Store cache but nothing changed.
    Any clue?
    Thank you,
    William

You can "hide" a purchased item by hovering over its listing in the "Purchases" tab. A small "x" will appear, and if you click on it the item will disappear from the list:
You still are entitled to it, though, and can "unhide" it later by going to
Store Menu > View My Account

  • Mac App Store Notification Center

Hello many smart people on this forum,
As the days have passed after downloading Mountain Lion, I have receieved many updates on the Mac App Store. The weird thing, I find about this, is that I have not found any notifications about these updates, or recieved any banners. I'm wondering, what's going on? Is there some secret setting to do this, or does it just take time, or is it only spontaneous?
         Many thanks, Daniel.

I understand that the MAS is not in the preferences for notification center. I guess my question is this: when it gave you the notification for an update, was the update already downloaded and you just had to install it? If so, how much time did it take for the update to be published to the MAS, to be automatically downloaded? Just curious. I'm just a bit disgruntled Apple hasn't said a lot about how automatic downloads work in Mountain Lion.

  • Problems getting app store notifications?

Not sure if this is a problem with my phone or not, but after apple released v3.0, i was expecting push notifications for app store updates. To date i have not received a single notification.
If I want to check if any of my apps have any updates, I have to launch the app store and then click on update to check for updates.
Anyone else facing this problem? solutions??
I live in New Zealand btw and am on Vodafone's network...just in case that has something to do with it.
    thanks,

  • How can I delete the apps I don't want to update, from the App Store Notification list?

The number of apps, waiting to be updated is growing, and growing!  I want that number to go away.  I am not going to update the ones I don't want.
How can I clear the list, so I only see the number of ones I have not looked at - the new notifications?

You can't clear the notifications unless you udate the apps. There is nothing that you can do about it - unless you delete every trace of those apps everywhere - in iTunes, your iPad, all iDevices .... and I still don't think that totally eliminates the updates. If you download an App and it is tied to your ID, the notifications will appear somewhere - maybe not on the iPad - but in iTunes at least.

  • App update notification on top right corner: any way to disable?

    Hi all!
Running Mountain Lion I get a notification at the top right of the screen every time an App update is available. There are two buttons Update and Details but no Dismiss, "Go Away", or Cancel. I've got dozens of Apps on my laptop and don't want to update every time I get a notification. I figured out that a two finger swipe on the notification sends it off the screen (thanks Apple really obvious that one!). The problem is that fifteen minutes later it's back again!
Is there any way of disabling App Store notifications without disabling all notifications? I can't see one.

Thanks for your reply.i disabled the updates for cellular data.i hope there is no way to stop iphone to check updates for my purchased app item.most app relesing updates for compatible for iOS7,im using 6.1.3 for my 3gs.why should APPLE pushing me to update? if i'm not update the red counting icon was still there,if i update unnessery we have to use Wifi Data,
in India 3G or Broadband will cost Rs 1600 or more for minimum 2Mbps speed also with limited Data.we get unlimited data in same cost, but speed is less then 512 Kbps only.it was boring speed.
already Blootooth and downloaing ituens video transfer was a minus point in iphone if we compare to Anroid.
my question is why dont iOS having disable updat option?,it was any for particular reason?or it was a bug in ios?

  • IPhoto 9.6.1 not in App Store?

I want to update my iPhoto to 9.6.1, but I'm unable to find iPhoto when I search the App Store.
    Has anyone else encountered this?
Do you know if Apple will make iPhoto available in the App Store?
(I always update when the App Store notifies me, but I don't ever recall getting an iPhoto 9.6.1 update notification. I'm currently at 9.5.1.)

I know this is tagged as solved but just in case my experience helps others...
I am in the UK so this all relates to UK apple store.  I upgraded my mac two days ago to Yosemite 10.10.3, Apr 15 2015.  Beforehand, vaguely concerned about iPhoto, I checked that you could still use it in Yosemite by looking on my husband's newish mac book air that still showed it working - with hindsight, obviously should have looked into it in more detail, but thought it would go as smoothly as previous OS upgrades. Didn't spot that he had the latest iPhoto whereas I had 9.5.1.
So, then when I could no longer use the old version in Yosemite but could also not upgrade it through the App Store, I found this thread.  Like tedster998 step 3, I went to the App Store "Purchased" tab and found the "Update" button, clicked it, it whirred for a second or two but seemed to do nothing.  I then went to the App Store's "Store" tab and spotted the "Check for unfinished downloads..." option.  I clicked it thinking maybe this would finish the update process - iPhoto starts downloading for 20 minutes.  The button switches to saying "Installed".  (I think I have done it!)
Now, here I am not sure what had actually happened - I think checking for unfinished downloads must have picked up an unfinished download of an old version because, after my Restart and search for iPhoto using Finder, it says it was modified today but still appears to be version 9.5.1 (as it had been throughout).
However, I then try the steps all over again.  I move that version to Trash again, go back into Purchases, and now it presents iPhoto with a new "Install" button (which I hadn't got before even though I'm pretty certain I'd moved the old app to Trash that time too - curious).   Click that again for another 20 min install, Restart mac and, hey presto, iPhoto.app is installed and shows 9.6.1.  And it is back in my toolbar with its old tropical beach/camera icon.
Basically, my lesson from this is 'if at first you don't succeed, try again'!
Only a few hours work searching the internet and all these forums - now, wouldn't it have been easier, Apple, simply to have kept it available to upgrade in the store?  Thanks everyone in the thread - would never have got there without you!

  • App Store ignoring System Pref. settings

Today I awoke to an App Store notification that there were updates available.  I was given two choices, 1) Install 2) Later (with some options).  I opened App Store app to see what updates were supposedly available and there was the one update I was putting off which was XCode.  I didn't want to install it now.  I knew that I had changed the App Store settings in System Preferences to olny check for updates but not act on them or download them so I opened System Prefs. and verified this.  Sure enough, I had only one item checked (Automatically check for updates).  Everything else was unchecked.
    So, I have a few quesstions;
Why is App Store ignoring its own settings and download an app I didn't want yet?
Why did the notification only offer me two options (again ignoring its own settings)?
Why didn't the notification tell me which updates were available?
    And some comments;
This is just an unacceptable way to approach updates, IMHO.  I need control over what is going to be downloaded and when (bandwidth control and timing).  I must know what is ready for update beforehand so I can understand what it means and be able to opt out or delay it to a point when I am ready (control over what is going to be updated vs what is not and when).

  • App store updates not loading

Starting yesterday, I have been receiving App Store notifications for new updates, but, when I open the App Store and the Updates section, nothing ever loads. The page remains blank. Sometimes, the indicator that something is downloading will appear for a few seconds, then it stops. Most of the time, it won't even do that much. I have tried closing the app and restarting it several times, but this doesn't help.

  • My server keeps telling me that I have an update for 10.10.1 and that I should look for it in the app store. I do that and am not finding anything that makes the update notification go away. I have installed an update the app store says I need.

I updated to Yosemite on my Mac mini/server. Then my server wouldn't work. I updated and bought the software needed when updating to Yosemite. The server seems to be working. Subsequently I've started getting a notification on the server icon that an update is needed. When i look for details I'm instructed to go to the app store. I've done that. In the updates category no update is found by the app store system. I then went to the purchases category and was informed I needed to install the server software I'd purchased. While I'd installed before, I did it again. I still have the 1 in a red circle covering part of the server icon. I have restarted the mac mini. I can't figure out what step I'm missing. The continued presence of the red circle suggests that the software still isn't installed. Looked into restarting the server in help but don't find clear instructions that make sense. Suggestions from someone who has a mac mini server and has worked with this topic would be greatly appreciated. General comments from anyone who has not looked at this kind of problem before might turn out to be unenlightening for this neophyte.

I tried turning the computer off and then back on. The alerts don't show the notice to update as resolved. Hopefully this is not a problem or an indicator or another problem. Should I ignore or reload 10.10.1 from the app store to trigger a resolved check in a green circle?
Interesting that I had to buy server software after my free Yosemite download. I would have hoped that the two pieces of software would have gone together without any complication. It is not positive to end up buying a problem. Ah well, time to move on.
