App Store Quality Control

A quick review of the existing threads reveals a pattern of application crashes... does anybody know if there is any sort of quality control going on to get an application on the App Store?
I have had numerous applications, some free and some paid, that end up crashing on launch or shortly thereafter that have caused me to either have to re-download the application or completely restore my iPhone.
Given that the App Store is the only way for developers to release their applications and there isn't a viable option for being able to try apps before we buy do we have any guarantee as the the quality of the applications or are we merely paying beta testers?

There is no regular pattern as to what is even causing these crashes SOME people seem to be having. I say some people because not everyone is experiencing any crashes. I have 36 apps installed on two white iPhones and I have no crashes. I'm not sure if Apple will allow refunds for apps that crash or not.

  • Does the app store/flight control slow down your computer?

I want to download flight control on my computer. will it slow it down or hurt my macbook pro in any way?

No, It only takes resources when you're running it.  It doesn't take much resource even then.

  • Mac App Store - page is inaccessible due to your Parental Control

Whenever I start the app store I get the following message on the Featured, Top Charts, and Purchased tabs.
defaultButtonok message This page is inaccessible due to your Parental Control settings. okButtonStringOK
If I try to sign in the wheel next to the account just spins and spins... It never connects. The Apple ID and PW are confirmed good in all the other apple apps and sites.
I am logged in with an administrator account - so no parental controls.
All parental controls are disabled in iTunes
It did not work in 10.6.6 or 10.6.7

Sorry let me be more clear...
No parental controls are enabled on the system preferences as there are no accounts that are not administrators.
In iTunes - no parental controls either.
The iTunes account works without fail.

  • I have a new iPad Air and in using the App Store, it seems frozen with an app that I didn't want.   I cannot look at other apps in the store or anything.  How do I unfreeze it?  Something equivalent to Control Alt Delete with Window.

I have an iPad Air just acquired yesterday.   The App Store seems to be frozen and I have on idea how to undo it.  It is as if i clicked on an app to download and it came up but it is frozen.  I cannot get rid of it or go to anything else in the App Store.   I tried downloading that app and opening it - didn't help.  Guess what I am looking for is the equivalent of Control +Alt+Delete in Windows.  Thanks.

Double tap your home button and open apps will appear above as smaller screen shots.  With your finger swipe the open app upwards and it will fully close.
The cntrl/alt/delete option on an iPad is a reboot and to do so, press and hold BOTH the power and home buttons at the SAME time for about 10 seconds until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and your iPad will restart.

  • Since upgrading from Mavericks to Yosemite Mail, Spotlight,Mission Control and App-Store don´t work correctly. Is it possible to return to Mavericks?

Since upgrading from Mavericks to Yosemite Mail, Spotlight, Mission Control and App-Store don´t work correctly. Is it possible to return to Mavericks?

If you have an external drive with an OS X Time Machine backup, then do restore of your last backup. If you have an external drive  with a bootable clone of your previous system, you can boot to that clone and re-clone the OS X on your external drive back to your Mac's internal drive.
If you do not have either of these available, then the reverting/restoring process becomes much more complicated and involves purchasing an external drive and backing up your current system to that drive, then erasing, reformatting your hard drive and now your only options to installng an OS X version is doing a clean install of OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, then upgrading, again, to either OS X 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion. OS X 10.9 Mavericks is no longer available for download and Apple has not made OS X 10.9 Mavericks available in any other form to be able to redownload and install.
Maybe it would be better to explain in detail your issues with Yosemite to see if any of us here can help you with your difficulties.
I am not running or using Yosemite, so I cannot help you with your Yosemite issues,
There are others here who can help you with Yosemite.
    Good Luck.

  • International App Store Control

I am currently in one of the countries with out App store access and can not access the App store to buy items. I have read post about this where excuses are given saying that it is due to goverment relations, trading laws and service..... I agree this can be the case but not for an unlimmited amount of time. (5-10 years)??? Why not invest a bit of capital and make things happen. I am sure the returns will be worth the investment. The community that are developing app's will also be happy to have a larger market. The Alternative operating system looks more-and-more attractive every day.
If you sell a product that indicate (suggest) that the online store is part of your product and service, is it then not wrong to deny that service?
Even the free programs are blocked/denied/control.
Sounds more to me like stagnation than problems. Problems can be solved....

This is a Mac user to user technical forum. No one here can tell you why there is no Mac App Store where you live. Apple is not here and does not respond to complaints like this one that you have posted. You are free to believe or not believe any ideas folks offer as to why there is no MAS in your country, but threats to become a Windows box user carries no weight here. Folks will just laugh at you.

  • Extremely Bad Quality Poorly Translated Chinese Apps on the English App Store

Okay, so I am on YouTube when I see one of my favourite YouTubers talk about really bad apps on the App Store. For example, one obviously Chinese developer named "zhenhe xue" has over 100 sub-par- No, these games are horrifyingly bad. For example, there is an app called Baby Makeover. It is 99 cents, so I won't even bother. I have seen the pictures and descriptions, however, and I can tell you that two pictures have Mickey Mouse (Copyrighted) and one has Dory from Finding Nemo (Copyrighted)! It is a generic dress-up game, with a creepy baby that you can pierce, powder, and make her wear so much makeup. Here is the description.
"Thought about their future baby look like it? Now a cute little baby overseas in front of you, come to your mind baby playing baby star it!"
If I talked like that, I would probably be shot by Grammar Nazis. There is a Pou ripoff, horrifying Dress Up games, and obvious ripoffs of other games. There are so many developers like this, where they produce games near-weekly, and the games are mediocre at their best... So here is my question: WHY ARE THESE DEVELOPERS ON OUR HIGH-QUALITY MARKET? Does Apple want quality, or quantity? I would love to either meet the numbskull who thought these games were a good idea, or have all Chinese developers on the English App Store, or any besides their own, banned from making games on these real platforms.

I'm confused. Did you just demonstrate that it isn't a high-quality market?
Does Apple want quality, or quantity?
I'm assuming that is a rhetorical question. Have you ever heard any Apple executive tout the quality of apps and developers in the app stores? What about their quantity?

  • Yahoo Finance app in Mission Control is not downloading/retrieving data.  What do I need to do?  Apple store computers have same app and are working fine.

The Yahoo Finance app in Mission Control is not retrieving info concerning stocks prices.  It will go to the Yahoo Finance page.  I went to the Apple Store and this app appears to be working just fine on their new computers
.  What could be the problem?

MacBook Pro and Mac Pro are not the same machine.   The MacBook Pro is a notebook, and the Mac Pro is a desktop.   Regardless, the question you have pertains more to Quicktime or iMovie, as both those are video importing applications.     Do you wish me to ask a moderator to redirect your question to either forum?
    There are forums for each.
One application I found is great for importing non-Apple compatible video formats is http://www.etinysoft.com/total-video-converter-hd.html though you may need to get a Flash Card reader that supports your camera's flash card on a Mac to import the video.

  • I am trying to download an app for my ipod touch, but its not showing up in the app store. Its the icess app for controlling a bluetooth helicopter

I recently got my daughter an iCess RC helicopter. It works via bluetooth and can be used with Apple and Android devices. She has a ipod touch, but when trying to do a search for "iCess" in the app store, nothing comes up. It shows up on my PC in the itunes store, but how do I get it on the ipod touch or its apps store?
Also having the same problem when trying to locate the app with my iPad and its app store. I got it installed on one of my android devices via the Google Play store so I know its there & works. Any ideas or suggestion on what is going on here with the iPod and iPad app stores?

The RC helicopter's directions say its available in the App store for Apple and here it is in the iTunes store:
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/icess/id558793179?mt=8 (released on 6/19/2013)
How do I get this to show up on my iPad and/or iPod touch app stores so I can then download and install it as needed?

  • I have two iPads, one for my child and mine.  They both use the same user Id so I can control purchases.  How do I stop the App Store content going to both iPads?

I have two iPads under the one user ID.  Mine and my 4 year olds.  When making purchases for the App Store, the purchase goes to both IPads.  How do I stop content going to both?
    Any help would be great.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You have to disable Automatic Downloads on the iPad where you don't want to get the purchases. Open Settings > iTunes & App Stores, and disable Automatic Downloads for Apps, Music and/or Books. Read > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4539

  • HT201304 Kindle Amazon app store has an app called childs place. It's a parental control app that allows the parent to put only apps into it for childrens access & requires a password to get out of. Anyone know if there is a similar app in the Apple app s

Kindle App Store has an app names Child's Place. It lets you add only the apps you want your child to access and requires a passcode to exit it. That way your child cannot access any other content except what you have allowed in this particular app. Does anyone know if Apple App store has anything comparable? I know you can set up restrictions in settings but this is different.
    Thanks

Sorry but no, that is not possible in iOS. Other than what is offered in the Restrictions, there is no way to lock apps in general unless the app itself has a password feature. You can in iOS 6 lock the iPad into a single app, but that's your only option.
It's a tradeoff; apps can't affect each other except in very restrictive ways in iOS which makes such features from third parties impossible, but it also renders getting malware infecting your iOS device extremely unlikely, something not the case with Android-based devices.
    Regards.

  • HT2404 Mountain Lion will not download through the apps store.  It shows up in Launchpad, but when the screensaver goes on and I enter my password and my desktop shows up, it has disappeared from launchpad.  I have set my energy saver controls appropriate

Mountain lion will not download thru the apps store.  It has been purchased and redeemed.  I have set my energy settings appropriately so computer will not turn off during download as Verizon offers a connection that is very slow.  I have set the display to go to sleep (which I have set so I have to sign in again).  When I sign in again, Mountain Lion OSX has disappeared from the launchpad.  I have tried this several times.  I do have Norton Internet Security on my Mac Air.  I turned off the idle time scan on the Norton and tried again.  Same results.  Anyone?

Ask anyone around here, and they will tell you quite differently. AV software will slow down your computer, can be incompatible with software you use, can cause kernel panics and other problems. It is unnecessay since OS X has it's own protection built-in. AV software can no more tell the difference between safe and unsafe sites on your browser than could an elephant.
But, hey, who am I to argue with your tech person? Please, don't let me sway your opinion. How about a visit to:

An excellent link to read is Tom Reed's Mac Malware Guide.
Also, visit The XLab FAQs and read Detecting and avoiding malware and spyware.

If you require anti-virus protection I recommend using VirusBarrier Express 1.1.6 or Dr.Web Light both from the App Store. They're both free, and since they're from the App Store, they won't destabilize the system. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for these recommendations.)

  • App store Official complaint contacts

I purchased an application through "App Store" for my Ipad 3.
The description said that the application would do some things but it does not.
I contacted the developer several times but he doesn't give an answer or fix the problem.
This is fake, or false, advertisment and there should be someone held responsible for it.
For the same reason I demand to get a reimburshment of the money I gave and also that
the wrong/false information be removed from "App Store".
I believe that many people have come across similar issues. Where is Apple's quality control??
After some search I cannot find any official support email for the "App Store",
which is responsible for malfunctioning applications
I would appreciate if someone could shed some light.
    p.s.
The name of the application is iProcessing Reference and it does not compile(run) the code
as the description on the appstore states it does.

Well..  I tried to make a complaint but apparently Apple doesn't care.
This is what I wrote to Apple:
The application claims that it is also a compiler, besides being a reference tool and that you can execute(compile) imported processing (pde) files in it. I have been using it for a month on my Ipad3, but it has never been capable of compiling neither imported processing code or compile the code that was written in the app itself.  The response of the developer was that it works on his Ipad2...  I would like a reimburshment for the money I have paid and also an information note to be put on App Store for other users, that this app is not compatible with Ipad3.
    The response was the following:
We have taken note of the problem for our records, however we are not able to provide support for the features and functionality of applications. Please click the support link below to contact the developer for resolution.
As I said the developer does not care to help. So who is going to help the consumers for App Store selling (& advertising) products that malfunction?

  • Mountain Lion (purchased) cannot be downloaded via App Store. Help!

I bought Mountain Lion via the App Store, and now I cannot re-download this now that Mavericks has launched. It is "not available in the US App Store," apparently.
I would like access to the software I purchased. How are other people fetching their (download-only) software they purchased? While the whole innovation of central stores IS THAT APPLE KEEPS MY PURCHASED SOFTWARE, if this is not the case, I'll need to keep local copies, and need advice on how to fetch my purchased software.

I had a shockingly, unacceptably bad experience today at the local Apple Store over this issue. Upsetting because uniform build quality and good service is what differentiates Apple from Dell, and creates the extra hardware expense.
For others who are having this issue:
Apparently Apple Stores do not have, or have access to, the "non-slipstreamed" (e.g. Universal) version of the OS X Mountain Lion installer that you and I paid for in the App Store.
If pressed, the only solution given is to create a backup disk (or boot-up USB stick) from Control-R on startup.
Said solution, however, will generate a boot image that is contingent and dependent upon the hardware on which it was created. Therefore, if you move from a Mac Mini platform to a laptop, and try to install the Operating System--which you have paid for--from this USB stick, you might not be able to boot the system.
The recourse given is to "call 1800-My-Apple," which may or may not have a charge associated with it.
Oh, and #5: Apple Store employees (not the Genius) may tell you you are violating copyright when in fact you are taking an action protected under EULA and Fair Use provisions (e.g. backup copy, one-copy-for-one-computer).
All in all, this has soured me on my upcoming Apple hardware purchase. LUCKILY for me, I might have found a copy of my Install OS X Mountain Lionpackage. Good thing I did not rely upon digital curation to maintain my digital purchase.
    Lessons?
Make a copy of everything you purchase via the App Store. Even if it's a curated store, apparently there is no guarantee that your purchased software is retained.
    Maintain multiple backups.
Be very, very careful when moving across hardware platforms with a Command-R-generated boot drive. Apparently this can create chaos. Silly me, I'd have thought the "full" version of the installer would be used when creating a boot disk via starting up in rescue mode.
