App Store remembering old user info.

I inherited a MB at work from another user that had downloaded apps through the App Store.  The App Store keeps reporting that there's an update available for Twitter.  If I try to update it, it asks for the old user's account info.  Mind you that this is logged in as a different user, and the old user's profile has been deleted.  The Twitter app doesn't even exist on the computer (I don't know if it was in the other user's profile Applications, or if he deleted it.)
I tried putting in my Apple App Store account information, which allows me to see my purchased apps, but it still prompts for the other user's info when trying to update Twitter.  I even tried re-downloading Twitter through my account, but it still prompts for the old user's info when I try to install it.
How can I get App Store to forget about the old user and stop notifiying that Twitter has an update?
(This is on 10.6.8)

It actually turned out to be this problem:
https://discussions.apple.com/message/15309809#15309809
Apparently the previous user downloaded an "unofficial" version of FaceTime.  I downloaded AppZapper to get rid of it and all is good now.

  • Restoring Old User Info and programs

Hi, I just got my macbook back from repair and the harddrive is wiped clean...had to start over with new user name and registration.
Before I sent it away (again), I backed up my user profile on a firewire drive.
How do I properly re-install this old user information?
Can I still install and use all my new programs saved in old User?
What do I need to be careful of?
Old User info is in 10.4.7---clean Mac back from repair in 10.4.6
If someone could give me a step-by-step sort of reply or point me in the direction of a support article I'd really appreciate it.
    Thanks

    Fritz,
All the info you need is contained in this kbase article, but there is one item from this article that is somewhat out of date....
When you get to the section of the article that describes the 2 commands to use in Terminal, use this single one instead:
    <pre style="overflow:auto; font-family: 'Monaco'; font-size: 10px">chown -R username:username /Users/username</pre>
In the above command, you will replace all instances of "username" with your own short name. So, if your short name is "fred," for example, you will type the following exactly:
    <pre style="overflow:auto; font-family: 'Monaco'; font-size: 10px">chown -R fred:fred /Users/fred</pre>
Otherwise, follow all the directions for "manually" restoring your HOME folder.
Keep in mind that this will not reinstall applications that you had installed before. It will, however, restore all of the settings and data for those applications. Once you have reinstalled the applications, themselves, you will be right back where you were.

  • Trying to Import music i purchased from old account to new & can't remember old account info

Trying to Import music i purchased from old account to new & can't remember old account info nor does it exsist.  what to do???   thanks

This isn't really an iTunes Match questions but I'll give it a shot.
Unfortunately, you must remember the username and password for that account. If you can't you won't be able to play that protected music. There's really no way around this.

  • Apple's App Store + Flash + PC Only --Info here! ;)

*I do not own a MAC at all and used Flash CS5 + Air 2.6 SDK to make APPs  for the iOS and then upload them to the APP Store to try and make  money!*
Hey guys, I just want to say first that if you  have a PC and you have Flash CS5, and you have a developers license, you  can make a game and upload it to the app store.  I just pulled my hair  out for a month trying to get this to work but I did it all on just a  PC. Now I will share what I did, because nobody else cares.
    0. Ok before you do anything you should goto the  APPLE Provisioning Portal after you login on Itunes Connect, make an APP  and fill out everything needed, including the bundle IDs and the  certificates.
    1. Program your game in AS3.
    2. Get a developers license.
    3. Change the CPU value in your apps .xml file to GPU.
    4.   Now in apples provisioning portal, which is in the dev center after you  login you must follow the steps to create your provisioning profile.   It will involve downloading certain certficates to create a .p12 file  and a .mobileprovision file.  Usually to do this you could use a PC and a  program called OpenSSL and the command prompt.  HOWEVER, uploading the  app REQUIRES A MAC OPERATING SYSTEM to do so, so you might as well just  use the MAC method to make your .p12 and .mobileprovision. You need  these files when you compile to tell the IPOD/iphone/ipad that this is a  legitimate file.
    5. DOWNLOAD Mac OSX Snow Leopard from wherever you can or buy it .
    5.  MAC? I thought this was PC only!? Well it is, but in order to do this,  you have to run MAC software on your PC.  Normally this is very hard to  do...well not really.  YOU MUST have the program VMware. DOWNLOAD Vmware  from wherever you can or buy it .   In VMware you can make a fake harddrive, make a FreeBSD hard drive with  2 cores, and SCSI.  After it is created you must mount the Snow Leopard  DVD to one of the cd-rom drives inside of VMWARE for your fake  harddrive you just created.  Now when you boot vmware you will need to  go into BIOS by pressing F2.  When in bios set the CD-rom to boot first.  Save and boot.
    6.  The MAC OS install screen will pop up, you must go  to the top menu and choose drive editor(or something like that) and  then find your "fake" hard drive you just made, you must select it and  format it as MAC.  It happens fast.  Then return to the install screen  by closing the drive editor.
    7. Choose install, now if  you have a hacker version of snow leopard (which is what I had) you will  have many settings to change in the preferences tab. The most important  things to change would be the KERNEL.  There is a chocolate kernel and  one above it I cant remember, the chocolate kernel didnt work for me so  maybe try the one that is above it.  If you have Nvidia or ATI card  choose ATI in the video section the info will state it works for both  card types.  Choose whatever for sound...probably wont work anyway. You  must also choose a certain driver in the network section, I think it is  called RL8589 or somehting like that.   And finally click install.   (NOTE: Everyone has a different system and these setting will need to be  tuned to your PC, I do not know what your pc is so I cannot tell you  exactly what to choose, you should be able to figure it out, and if it  doesn't work, be prepared to try this ALL over again, I seriously had to  reinstall MAC OS 4 times to get it right, but then it worked.
    8.  Now it will begin installing MAC OS on your fake  drive inside VMware.  After it is done installing it probably won't  boot. You will need to download a boot disk to boot the MAC OS.  My  favorite (because it works) is a disc called Nawcom/OSX86 ModCD 0.3.1.   You DL it here:  http://blog.nawcom.com/ModCD/OSX86_ModCD-032311-151021.iso.zip
    9. Set the CD-rom from the Snow Leopard DVD to the Nawcom ModCD.
    10.  Boot up and you will see the Nawcom screen asking you to press any  button, do so. It will start loading white text like crazy....until  hopefully you will see the MAC welcome screen asking you to press the  keys next to you shift keys, do this and set up the MAC with your  developer information.
    11.  You can now login to Itunes connect using Safari we browser.
(REMEMBER  the Bundle ID in the provisioning portal for your app must match the  one in your .xml file.  It will look something like  com.Mycompany.Myapp.)
    12. Download your certificates and use  the Key Assist in Apps>Utilities and the provisioning portal on  itunes connect(There is in depth docs on this) to create your .p12 and  .mobileprovision files.
13.BACK ON YOUR PC, move the  files from the "MAC" to the PC, I did this by plugging in a USB drive  and loading the files on using the MAC OS, if you must, you can upload  the .p12 and .mobileprovision files to a file host, like  www.fileden.com. Put these files in WINDOWS somehow. (Remember that there are 2 certificates, one is the developer  certificate, one is the distributer, for the app store you need the  distributor certificate to be used when creating the .p12 file, not the developer  certificate.(This final compiled file will not run on your iphone after for testing, it  will however work after people download it from the app store. Compile your game using AIR 2.6 using the command prompt to run this line from Air2.6/bin folder:
    adt   -package -target ipa-app-store -storetype pkcs12 -keystore   YOURKEYFILE.p12 -storepass YOURPASSWORD  -provisioning-profile  YOURCOMPANY.mobileprovision YOURAPP.ipa  YOURAPP-app.xml YOURAPP.swf  icon2929.png icon5757.png icon7272.png
    14. Now you will have the .ipa file you need to upload to APPLE.
    15.  Now you can either put this on a USB drive, upload this to fileden, or  create an .iso file with the .ipa file inside of it, then mount that as a  second cd rom inside VMware, you may have to change the nawcom and iso  file's positions in vmware so that nawcom is always number 0 and the iso  with your APP is number 1.
    16. Boot up MAC and "transfer" your APP.ipa to the MAC.
    17.  Download Application Loader from APPLE in Safari.
    18.  Install Application Loader.
    19. Start Application Loader and then fill in your Itunes Connect login information and login.
    20. Do whatever it asks and upload your APP, hit upload.
    21.  It will say verifying, if it gives an error, you have done something  wrong in making your files...it is ok, it took me countless tries to  create the file properly, your main concern is making sure the Bundle  IDs match and that you use a distributor certificate to create the .p12  file not a developer one.
    22. If the file fails, keep trying, there is a lot of info out there for trouble shooting but it is your fault it is happening.
So  there is it, I used WINDOWS XP PRO for this.  Yes Windows XP Pro was  running, while MAC OS was running beside it in a window. The MAC may run  a little slow but it is bearable to upload a game(not to use as a MAC  for daily things).
*I do not own a MAC at all and used  Flash CS5 + Air 2.6 SDK to make APPs for the iOS and then upload them  to the APP Store to try and make money!*
To prove that  flash can do the job, here is proof with my app iBomb! and 8-bit game  that is pretty fun and has a cool little story!:  http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ibomb/id434765925?mt=8&ls=1
If I helped you out you could help me out by buying my app, it's ok if you can't.
I  hope this post is HOPE for many of you flash devs out there like me  that wondered if this was even possible.  Take it easy guys!

You credit or debit card credentials must be associated with same country where you purchase iTunes media.
"Although you can browse the iTunes Store in any country without being signed in, you can only purchase content from the iTunes Store for your own country. This is enforced via the billing address associated with your credit card or other payment method that you use with the iTunes Store, rather than your actual geographic location. You can use the iTunes Store in all countries of which you’re a resident, but you’ll either need a separate iTunes Store account for each one, or you’ll need to continually be switching the billing information on your single account. Generally, it’s simpler just to set up an alternative account for these situations, although it’s worth nothing that features like iTunes in the CLoud and iTunes Match are designed to work best when using a single iTunes Store account, as you can only switch accounts with these services every 90 days."

  • Updated to maverick, app store wants old iCloud password to update iPhoto

I updated my 21.5 inch Mid 2011 iMac to Mavericks so I can use it with Apple TV. My problem now, is that the current version of iPhoto won't work anymore. When I try to update it, it asks for the login information for an iCloud account I haven't used in years and it won't let me change it to the current one. I'm pretty sure I've never used the old login at this computer at all as it's been too long since I stopped using it. The only reason I can think of it popping up is because I might have bought music on it. But I've never used it for apps.
I'm logged into iCloud on my current account on the computer, and also in my apps (iTunes, app store), but it still insists on using the really old one. I've tried to log out and back in again, and I even tried to restart my computer, but it's still not working. What's weird as well is that it's only iPhoto, I've updated Pages, Keynote and Numbers.

Contact Support at the App Store via this link:
What version of iPhoto do you have now? This screenshot shows which previous versions of iPhoto are compatible with Mavericks.  It also indicates which versions qualify for a free upgrade to iPhoto 9.5.1 and which require a purchase:
Note 1:  every day more users are reporting problems with iPhoto 8.1.2 so I've included it in the non compatible category.
Note 2:  If your previous version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll need to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application on the library before opening it with iPhoto 9.5.1

  • Mac App Store Non-Commercial users only? What about Lion for businesses?

When I read the Mac App Store agreement it indicates that the accounts are for 'non commercial' use. I supposed this was to stop companies purchasing an app and using 5 times at no extra cost.
If we want to download and install the Lion update on our company Macs how are we supposed to do this? The same goes for the Server component.
Further, I have used my own personal account to use a program in the office that I had purchased at home for playing quick games at lunch time, or for free apps like Twitter. Will these stop working if I have to create a company wide account just for Lion downloads?
Lastly, our internet connection speed is very poor due to our geographic location. Will we need to download Lion separately for each computer?
Sorry if Lion questions are a bit premature, but I'm trying to plan ahead.

Apple is not actually here, just fellow Apple product users. Those business questions are probably best dealt with in a telephone call directly to Apple, either Apple HQ in Cupertino, CA, or at least the closest Apple Store.
Your games are for you to freely install on computers that you own and control personally. That would seem to include a company computer issued to you. What you should not do is start installing the games and apps on the computers of your colleagues. And you should remove the games and apps when you return the computer to your business.
You should be able to mix both company purchased software and your personal software while the computer is in your control, just remember that software can only be updated by the account through which it was purchased. So you would need to sign into your personal account to update your personal software on your company computer in your control.
The software that comes through the MAS at this point is the drag & drop variety, the kind that has normally come on a disk or you download a disc image and drag the app to your Applications folder. With the MAS the software is downloaded and placed in the Apps folder for you. These apps can be copied to the other computers you own or have in your control. You do not need to download them to each computer, although you may do that as well.
Apple has pretty much reserved more complicated installations for itself. Xcode downloaded as an Installer into the Applications folder. Lion will also come as an installer. The Installer does not have to be downloaded to each Mac, it can be copied to them over your local LAN or direct Ethernet or FireWire cable connections. Or burn to a disk. Then the Installer can be run to install Lion on each Mac. Based on your direct conversation with Apple regarding obtaining Lion for your business, you may also be able to create a common installation of Lion that you then clone to all of your company computers.

  • I changed my apple id and now I can't update my apps or download new ones.  I've changed the ID in my iphone settings, but when I go in the apps store my old ID shows up.  If I change my settings back to the old ID my password doesn't work.  HELP!

So I changed my Apple ID.  Now on my Iphone I can't update things from the apps store or download new stuff.  I went into settings and changed my ID there, but in the apps store it still shows up as my old ID.  The apps store won't let me log on with the new one, as my old still shows up, and if I go back into settings and change it back to the old ID the password I had before no longer works.  This ***** Apple.  You just ruined my Iphone!!!  My phone went from being cool to being junk since I am not unable to download or update apps...the coolest part of my phone.  Someone help???  Please tell me how I can enjoy my phone and apps again...

Thank you for the response, but I ended up temporarily resetting my Apple ID... It was a pain, but it worked in the end.

  • HT1414 How do I change my original Apple ID to my new email address? I have changed it but when I go to the App Store, the old id keeps coming up and I no longer have a password for it. Therefore I can't download anything.

I have tried to change my Apple ID and was successful but when I go to the App Store my Apple ID appears as the old one. I no longer have a password for it. Now I can't download anything. What do I do?

Your apps were purchased under the old ID, so they will have to be deleted and re-purchased/downloaded under your new one.

  • HT204053 I have changed my Apple ID in iTunes, which I access through my current ISP! I have another - old ISP on my mobile which I originally setup to access the App Store. I cannot access the App Store via old Apple ID. How do I change to new Apple ID?

I had two (2) different ISP's, one for the mobile phone and one for the computer. I have changed my Apple ID in iTunes, and also changed my ISP provider for my mobile phone. NOW I cannot acces the App Store (through the iPhone icon. How can I change the Apple ID for access to the App Store which keeps requesting the 'old' Apple ID (lost the password and cannot get help as ISP is no longer available for help) Have tried syn, no rsult, I have the new Apple ID as Apple ID on my mobile phone. Help required here???

To change the iCloud ID on your devices you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted (if using iOS 7), then sign back in with your current ID.
If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, you will have to temporarily recreate it in order to delete the existing account.  To do this, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • How to get App Store past bad billing info

So I have not been able to update my app's because the App Store thinks I made some bad purchase or something.  Well I do t currently have a debit card so how do I get my phone to understand it just needs to give up on wanting billing info for the moment?  Or is this just one of those things that Apple does not budge on?

  • Suggestion: App store search by user rating!  Am I alone?

When I search for apps on the iTunes app store, there's typically so many that I want to see the ones that are rated the highest first. Am I alone in this view? At the very least there should be an option to sort the list.
Google became the king of search in large part because they put such heavy ranking emphasize on third party links which is the web's way of rating a site as good. Why does Apple not do the same thing with its user ratings on the app store? As far as I can tell, the rankings are not influenced much at all by the app ratings which forces me to scan multiple pages looking for the best rated ones.
Is this the best way to post this suggestion to Apple or is there a better place? Anyone know if this enhancement is planned?

Nope you're not alone I totally agree. I also think being able to search alphabetically together with user rating would be more of a plus. Other ideas are to add searching by the type of device and os s person has. It cuts time on searching for apps that are compatible with your device. I spend alot of time searching for games and these search features coming from a mother with 2 daughters one being borderline severely autistic I just don't have the time and end up staying up very late which is not any better.

  • Why won't Mac App Store remember my password? + Other Issues

It's infuriating that whenever I want to: install something I've bought, buy something, or something else, it asks (yet again) for my pwd. Is there some way to tell this ******** app to forever remember my pwd?* Also, a few wks back (not longer after I'd finished a completely fresh install of OSX 10.8.5) all the apps in the "purchased" section had a little "x" next to them. Stupidly I pressed that x on one or more of them, & bizarrely the apps forever disappeared, what happened to those purchased apps of mine?
Also, in the purchased apps section it's claiming that a number of the apps are "installed", again it's ******** because I've not installed those apps on this new env! So, how do I get access to those apps via the Store? Also, GarageBand/iMovie/iPhoto they're all stock apps, right? Why when I search in Spotlight aren't they showing-up on my system volume? Instead they're only showing-up on my attached external HDD, which has a CCC backup of my prior env/install. of OSX. Same for 2 other non-stock purchased apps (Pocket/Trillian), they're showing-up in the CCC backup volume, so Mac Store thinks they're "installed". Three other purchased apps (Airmail/TweetDeck/Wunderlist) I was given the option to install or update (can't recall), so they're now in my new OSX env. Finally, why is it showing stock apps in the "purchased" section, I did not purchase those apps, they came with OSX, which came with my laptop!
Any help on one or all of these points would greatly appreciated, all the best!
*While we're at it, can the same thing be done for iTunes? It does the same kind of infuriating stuff

It's infuriating that whenever I want to: install something I've bought, buy something, or something else, it asks (yet again) for my pwd. Is there some way to tell this ******** app to forever remember my pwd?
Based on this over-the-top post, it's obvious that you would also be here badmouthing and blaming Apple when the app remembered your password and a friend or aquiantance bought content using your account. The password is your security that no one can hack your account, on your Mac or from someone else's Mac.* Only someone very shortsighted would want to hack the security. Your password is usually good for 15 minutes. During that time period you can make purchases without having to re-enter the password. When the clock has ticked down the password is required again.
Also, a few wks back (not longer after I'd finished a completely fresh install of OSX 10.8.5) all the apps in the "purchased" section had a little "x" next to them. Stupidly I pressed that x on one or more of them, & bizarrely the apps forever disappeared, what happened to those purchased apps of mine?
You hid the apps, they can be unhidden.

1. The Mac App Store (MAS) can see it's apps on the external HDD because the MAS uses Spotlight to know what's installed on your Mac. So if you want to solve this issue, temporarily unmount the backup drives so the MAS doesn't see the installed apps.
    2. The iLife apps are not "stock apps" they are a suite of apps that Apple is giving to you for free with the purchase of a new Mac. They are sold in the MAS. "Stock apps" are installed and updated with OS X, they are not sold in the MAS and do not appear on your Purchases list. The iLife apps are not stock apps, which is why they show up in your MAS Purchased list, otherwise you would never be able to update them.
    3. You were obviously given the chance to "update" those 3 apps that were installed on your backup drives, which is why you now have the most recent version of them on your new Mac.
*iTunes and the Mac App Store use the same account. Both apps have the same password security protocol.
