App store said Lion installed but 'about this mac' is still 10.6.8

Dear Apple,
I purchased the Lion last night and when I woke up this morning, the App store said Lion installed but when I check 'about this mac', my imac is still in 10.6.8. Tried the software update and reboot, it is still the same. Is there an option to redownload and install Lion again?
Regards,
HK Guy

go into your Applications folder and double click the Install Mac OS X Lion.app.
it will start the install from there

  • App Store reports Lion installed, but Mac still at 10.6.8

So did Apple just pull the plug on installing OS X 10.7 Lion for now?
I did the app stor purchase of OS X Lion and the app store went thru the "install" process.  My Mac Pro was at 10.6.7 (or 10.6.6 if memory fails me) and I think the app store kicked off the Apple software updater.  After a restart my Mac was now at 10.6.8.  Not 10.7!
The App Store now reports that OS X Lion is installed in the purchases tab, but the Apple Icon > About this Mac reports that I'm still 10.6.8.  Clicking software update in the about screen doesn't find the OS X Lion update.  Going back to the App Store OS X Lion app page doesn't give me a "purchase" icon anymore, just an "Installed" button.
Any ideas on if the OS X Lion update has been halted/recalled?  Any ideas on how to force an app install from the app store?
Boy oh boy, I'm not so sure this Lion of an update was ready for release.
    thanks,
    Stephen

Have a look in your Applications or Download folder?
I think the update you just had was to get you to 10.6.8 ready for Lion.

    Colin R.
PS My update went ok but it deletes the installer so I can't remember what it's called. Maybe this:

  • The App Store tells me I have installed Lion, but About this Mac tells me I'm running 10.6.8

Have tried reaching Apple with no success.
I have been charged for the OS X but don't have it installed.  About this Mac tells me I am still running Snow Leopard and when I go into the App Store it says installed and I can't reinstall it.  I have reloaded Snow Leopard and then went to the App Store and it still told me I had Lion installed.  What is going on?  Is Apple ripping its loyal customers off?

The installer should be in your Applications Folder

  • HT1529 just loaded Mountain lion, went to about this mac to see if worked, won't open (about this mac)

just loaded Mountain lion, went to about this mac to see if worked, won't open (about this mac)  About this Mac is listed, nothing happens when I click on it.

I opened System Profiler by launching it from Utilities.
It comes up with a different name to the admin name though. Maybe that's why it won't open from "About this Mac"?
For example, the computer's name when I set it up using the USB installer stick is "Harry Potter".
But the old MBA that I had was named "js".
When I install programs, it comes up with "Harry Potter", put in password.
However, when I look up the System Profiler information using Utilities, it comes up with "js's MacBook Air (2)".
    Does that matter?
Is the name thing causing the problem with the "About This Mac" not opening?
I am really confused about all of this.
The information in the System Profiler is about the newer MBA.
Should I just not worry about this problem? And just open it up from Utilities if I need to look up System Profiler information?

Ok I think it's a problem with my router. I went to my cousin's house and the Wi-Fi worked there perfectly. I was even able to download many apps. So I guess my router probably can't take in more connections. Oh well thanks anyway.

  • Aperture is asking me for a serial number when I log on. I do have one because I got it off the app store. Anyone know anything about this or had this problem?

This problem has been getting at me for a while, I purchased Aperture 3 off the app store about a year ago without trouble, it was fine even when I had lion but after a few mserials deter that it stopped working and asked me for a serial number. It is also gone from my purchase history. I am not going mad and have forgotten hat I bought it in a box because I have written a review on the AppStore which you can only do if you have bought It there.

If you bought this in the App Store and now the App Store is not showing it in your purchased history and you are using the same Apple Id to log in you have a big problem.
I would contact the App Store right away and try to get this straightened out.  There is no way to correct this as you do not have a serial number to enter and no way of getting one.
The only other possibility would be if you somehow have two copies of Aperture on your machine, did you ever load the trial version? You could search your HD to see if you have two copies of the application and if you do try running each to see what happens.
But even if this turns out to be the case it wouldn't explain the App Store not having it in your history ad that still is a major problem.

    Hi there geagarde,
If you are experiencing this on an iOS device, you may want to try force closing all open apps and resetting the device as an initial troubleshooting step. Take a look at the articles below for more information.

  • HT4854 I downloaded Mountain Lion, now can't find it, to install. About this Mac, says I am still on 10.7.4

Last night, I downloaded Mountain Lion. I watched, as an unfamiliar screen came up, showing the download progress, when it was all over, my desktop went back to looking and acting just like Lion. I tried restarting it, nothing. I tried restarting again, nothing. I performed a "Find" for Mountain Lion, nothing. I performed a "Find" for OSX 10.8, nothing. I am simply trying to install it on the computer I downloaded it to.
What am I doing wrong? I wrote an email to Apple support, and got a "canned" email back, telling me how to generically retrieve downloads from the App Store. But, by following those directions, I do not see (nor did I expect to see) Mountain Lion in my iTunes. I see it in my download history, but no method to install it, which I thought it was doing, last night, when I bought and thought I was downloading it.

Open Launchpad and see if "Install Mountain Lion ..." is displayed. If it is then you will find the application in your Applications folder.
Normally, the applicaton launches automatically after it is downloaded. You would have to click on the Install button in order to start the upgrade.

  • HT1689 I changed the ID app store to new account but during updating or download still showing the old ID

I changed my Iphone 4 ID account, but during the update and download still showing the old ID

All apps, all paid and free apps include DRM protection which is tied to the iTunes account or Apple ID that was used to download the apps.
You must use the iTunes account or Apple ID that was used to download an app in order to install an app update.
Not possible to transfer apps from one iTunes account or Apple ID to another and the same for merging accounts.

  • How do you activate a 10.10.3 download.  I have downloaded twice (2 gig each) and have restarted as instructed.  I have also rebooted. "About this Mac' still reports 10.10.2 installed and I do not have the new photo app.

I have downloaded 1010.3 twice (2+gig each).  The update window shows the 10.10.3 update has been installed, however, 'About this Mac' shows 10.10.2 installed and I don't have the new 'photo' app installed.  Once more, the quality of Apple software approaches that of Microsoft - letting the user debug instead of delivering the quality that used to be Apple.
How do I activate the downloaded update.

There may well be a problem with the update package.  I initially tried downloading the delta update (not the combo) from the Apple Support web site, and when I opened the package file, the installer ran but terminated almost immediately.  I restarted and only got the normal reboot process, not the "Installing software" display.  After restarting, I saw some evidence that the firmware updater was cleaning up some files, but nothing else appeared to have happened except that the 1.5Gb package file and a couple small subsidiary files had been left under /Library/Updates/_ManualUpdate.
I tried running the command line softwareupdate tool to see if it would recognize the already-downloaded package file (which is something you might also want to try before downloading again just in case it works), but no such luck.  I then relented and used App Store, and that downloaded again and then performed the update successfully.
Of course, then I had to horse around with turning off all the "photos in the cloud" nonsense, but that's another story.

  • Why would it state under the "more about this mac" that i already have10.8.3 and then in the app store say i need to "resume" do you know what i mean? is it possible i already did download mountain lion entirely once? I am confused and don't want it twice

This is cause by the way the App Store checks to see if an application is installed on your system.
Basically when an app is installed it is in the Applications folder and this is where the MAS looks for them. So it looks at your purchase history for the apps you bought and looks in the Applications folder to see if they are installed. If an app is in your purchase history but not in the Applications folder the MAS says you need to install it.
For normal apps this works fine but the OS doesn;t install into the Applications folder. So the MAS sees you have Mountain Lion in your purchase history but it's not in the Applications folder and so it says you need to download it.
Hopefully one of these days Apple wil fix this.
    regards

Has your problem been solved by the updates??
Have a similar problem. This MacBook opened all MS Office programs in Dec2012 but no longer does in Feb2013. Went to Microsoft/mac/downloads but none of the three updates would run citing a problem "version of software needed to run this update was not found on this volume".
MacBook: 7.1, Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.4 GHz

  • Lion installed but Mac App Store says install

I have a 2009 MacBook and a 2006 iMac on which I have upgraded to Lion via the Mac App Store. Recently, the Mac App Store started saying "Install" next to Lion. I pressed "Install" and Lion re-downloaded and re-installed but the Mac App Store still says "Install" next to Lion but clearly Lion was installed before and after (10.7.3). ????

It may be that the Lion installer has been downloaded to your Mac but it hasn't yet been run.  Look for it in the Dock or in the Applications folder.  If you see it there, launch it to install Lion.

    Try here Mike...
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Make sure and use the same Apple ID.

  • App Store said to update Evernote, but would not let me. Now can't install!

The App Store said to update Evernote, but there was not update button option. I thought that was strange. So I rebooted and eventually uninstalled the app, but now when I go into the App Store, there is no download option. All I can do is stare at Evernote in the App Storelike a meuseum or somthing.

Not sure from your post where in the App Store you are looking -- Have you tried opening App Store on your phone, then tapping "Updates" at the lower right and then "Purchased" at the top. If you have previously downloaded the app and it is no longer on your phone, it should be in the list and have a cloud with down arrow icon that you can use to download it.
