App Store update requiring logging into old Apple ID

About a year ago I switched from sharing an Apple ID with the rest of my family and in this process switched my mid 2012 Macbook Pro over. I logged out on iMessage, iCloud, App Store, iTunes, FaceTime, ect. I had everything completely switched over and then updated to OS X Yosemite when it came out. Since then I have had occasional problems updating Apple Apps (iPhoto, iMovie, Keynote) that came on my computer without logging back into my old account.
The App Store will pop up a box and in the Apple ID slot will be the old email/ID, unable to change. When I type the password in it logs me back into the old account, but only in the App Store. When I go back to the App Store to log back into my own account it will have my Apple ID back in the spot after logging out of the old account.
This is more a nuisance than anything, but any help would be greatly appreciated.
Computer Specs:
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012), 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5, 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB.

That Apple ID is stored inside the applications; it can't be removed without deleting and redownloading them.

  • My App Store is stuck on my old Apple ID

I had to change my Apple ID after my email address was hacked, and haven't had any issues until I got an iPad, When I go into the itunes/app store settings and sign into my new Apple ID it's fine but When I go to the app store and try to update my apps, it's still my old ID! My old id doesn't exist any more. I need to update iBooks but if I delete it and then download it under my new ID will I lose all my books??

Anything Downloaded with a Particular Apple ID is tied to that Apple ID and Cannot be Merged or Transferred to a Different Apple ID

  • Pushing App Store Updates purchased with an Institutional Apple ID

Has anyone successfully found a way to push out App Store Updates in Lion (such as iMovie & iPhoto) purchased with an institutional Apple ID, without providing users with the Apple ID Password?

Try here to change the password. You will probably have to answer security questions that you selected when you created the ID in order to reset the password.

  • App store trying to use my old apple ID - how can I make it use my new one?

    Hope someone can help.
I've changed my email address and created a new Apple ID. It works fine on my computer (have successfully bought music), works fine on ITunes on my iphone (again, successfully bought music), but the App store insists on my old ID (although of course it won't accept my old password.
I've logged out and back in again in Settings, and synced before and after successfully making purchases in ITunes but to no avail.
    Any suggestions?

I am having that exact same problem too. It locked me out of my old account for some reason, so I created a new one. I am able to log on, I recently bought music, and I changed my apple ID in the store settings in my iPhone. However, when I try to update my apps/try to buy new ones on my phone it keeps defaulting to the old one without giving an option to use a different ID. I rebooted my phone and searched for other areas that I might have to enter the new ID, but I can't find anything...

    OR...
You could use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.

My iphone App Store indicates that I need to update my Backup Assistant.  I have tried about 30 times to log into my Apple account using every login I can think of and it continually tells me it is invalid or incorrect.  I have changed my password/ID at least 20 times.  What can I do?

Use the correct login/password that the app was purchased with.

  • I'm trying to update my iPhone apps but cannot log into my apple account from my phone!!!

Why can't I log into my Apple account from my iPhone?  My phone shows two apps needing updates and I've tried five times to log in.  I KNOW I'm using the right password and username, and can log in via computer just fine, but cannot log in to update my apps!  What's going on???

It appears that the iTunes store is down right now.

    Try This...
Close All Open Apps... Sign Out of your Account... Perform a Reset... Try again...
Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...

Even though I am logged into the apple website with my apple id, I am unable to log into the App Store.  It's the same account.

    Back up all data.

  • Under settings my phone has my apple id logged in, when I go to update on the app store it asks for a friends apple id, how do i fix this?

Under settings my phone has my apple id logged in, when I go to update on the app store it asks for a friends apple id, how do i fix this?

The app must have been purchased using your friends account.  This means that the app belongs to your friend.
You need to buy your own copy.

  • I have changed my email address and apple ID online, but the iPad keeps bringing up the old address and will not log into my apple ID

I have changed my email address, and apple ID online, but my iPad keeps bring up the old address and will not log into my Apple ID

If you updated your existing account then try logging out of it on the iPad by tapping on the id in Settings > iTunes & App Stores and then log back in and see if that 'refreshes' the account on the iPad. If you created a new account then any content that you purchased/downloaded via the old account will remain tied to that old account, and only that old account can download updates to its apps.

  • App store updates want old account

    The updates
in the app store bring me to an old account apple username. Why and how to input the new one?

You cannot import the new username as you bought it with your old one. Log into your old account to update it. Use iForgt if you forgot your password. Or you can delete the existing app, and redownload and reinstall the app. Note: You will be charged again if you want a paid app.

  • Mac App Store update: right Apple ID but wrong user account

My Mac App Store updates get associated to the wrong user account but the correct Apple ID.
I live in Germany and have an iMac and a MacBook Pro, both purchased under Snow Leopard and now running Lion 10.7.2. Just after upgrading to Lion I "purchased" a free App (BibleReader 5.0.0). This morning I logged into my wife's user account on the MacBook Pro, and the App Store icon flagged an update. I switched to my user account and was surprised to see that the update wasn't flagged there. By listing my purchases I did suceed in finding an "update" button for BibleReader, but pressing it resulted in a (German) error message whch translates as "An update is available for another account. Please log in with the account you used to purchase the App". But that is what I had just done.
Intrigued I went back to my wife's user account. By logging onto the Mac App Store with my Apple ID from my wife's user account I did manage to update the app. Later at work I got the same error message on the iMac. But this time the only other user account on the machine belongs to Computing Services: I don't have their password and I ought not to use admin rights to gain access to their account. So I can't perform the upgrade on the iMac.
All family iTunes / App Store purchases are via my main Apple ID. My wife's user account on the MacBook Pro only exists so that I can manually synchronise our iCloud address books (she has an iPad).
    Any ideas?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
All the applications you purchase on the App Store are registered to your Apple ID, so you have to use your Apple ID to update them, or you have to purchase those applications again using the Apple ID they are using on that computer, so they will be able to update them

Apple doesn't have anything to do with this other than enforcing the DRM protection. The developers of this content expect to be paid if someone wants to use their content. When you purchase content in the app store, you purchase a license to use the content. This license does not permit you or anyone else to resell or give this content away. The individual you purchased the phone from simply does not have the right to sell or give away any purchased content on the phone. You were deceived.
