App Store Update shows App already installed, but still keeps bugging me

App Store Updates continually shows Apple Remote Desktop V 3.7.2 as an update. When I click on UPDATE, I get the message:
"Remote Desktop is already installed on this computer. Choose Software Update from the Apple menu to check for available updates."
"Software Update from the Apple menu" no longer exists since upgrading to Yosemite. Besides, that's what the UPDATE button does.
I looked at other discussions, and tried the advice there, with no luck:
I downloaded Remote Desktop Version 3.7.2 again, and it would not install, saying a newer version already exists.
I turned off Applications in Spotlight, then turned it back on. I even restarted before turning it back on.
I went to delete "~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore" but there isn't one.
There's got to be a way get rid of this. No it's bugging me in Notifications to update software that won't update, because it does not need updating.

I can't find the disc, which was installed at least 6 years ago, when I was living in another city. Remote Desktop Admin was very expensive at the time. $299 if I remember correctly.
I've since deleted every file with remotedesktopadmin in the name, from system and user libraries. Restored 3.7.2 from the external drive, and the problem persists.
It would appear to be a software bug in App Store since I installed Yosemite. In six years of using Remote Desktop I've never had a problem until Yosemite install.
3.6 would not run because it checks for updates first. 3.7.2 runs just fine, and the App knows there is no update - otherwise it would behave like 3.6 and require an update. It's only App Store Update that erroneously indicates the App needs updating. If I deleted all plists, preferences, receipts, etc. what does App Store Update use to determine App update status?
Moreover, if I did not buy it on the App Store (there was no App Store six years ago), why is it showing up at all? I have lots of software that I bought directly from the vendor, and I don't get erroneous update messages for those.
Even stranger, when I looked at trying to buy a new copy in the App Store, instead of Buy, the icon said "Open". Somehow App Store thinks I bought it from the App Store, even though I didn't? I clicked Open, and while the App was running, the erroneous update message STILL persisted.

  • HT4461 If the Mac App Store thinks I've already installed (an updated Pages 5.0) application when in fact I'm still running Pages 4.3, how can I redownload it?

Hi! a few days ago I updated to Maverick and updated several other programs as well, however Pages 5.0 somehow didn't install, so I'm running 4.3. The App Store thinks I have already installed it. The FAQs suggest I can redownload, they do not indicate how. How?
    Thanks!

The older iWorks apps are in an iWorks folder the new apps are loose in the Applications folder. Are you sure the new Pages isn't there?
You can redownload apps from the Purchases pane after signing into your account.

  • App store update shows I can't update an app since my Apple ID is not associated with my account on Yosemite

App store update shows I can't update an app since my Apple ID is not associated with my account on Yosemite. How can I just force it to allow me to RE-BUY the app again since I don't even have it to update, but I want it?
Currently, I even though I don't have the app, I am not given the option to buy, only to "update", and when I click on that it either hangs or it complains that it can't since my Apple ID is not associated with my account.

And it was your wife's Apple ID that was used to download and install the Yosemite you are using on this computer? If so then I suggest you need to contact Apple to get his straightened out.

  • Pop up window says need to upgrade to newer version to work on document from the cloud. go to app store and it says already installed...help

pop up window says need to upgrade to newer version to work on document from the cloud. go to app store and it says already installed...help. Am trying to work on document from office computer at home on laptop.
This is what the pop up says:
You need a newer version of Numbers to open this spreadsheet.
You can download the latest version of Numbers from the Mac App Store.
    Thanks,

    WS,
At first, it can be difficult to determine which version of Numbers you are using. The user interfaces are different, but if you are new to the apps you may think you are using the new version when if fact you have launched the older version. Make sure you are using Version 3.x. Then you won't get the message that you need a newer version.
Use Spotlight to launch Numbers. After typing Numbers into the search field, pick the result that says "Numbers -- Applications".

  • The App Store updates show a discrepancy

The App Store updates show a discrepancy:
    App                    Version          File info
    Keynote          6.0.1          5.0.3
    Numbers          3.0.1          2.0.3
    Pages          5.0.1          4.3
    Couldn't send a simple message.
Phone support asked many silly questions then told me I have to pay 49 Euros to get an answer.

    Bob -
I see you have the version numbers as shown in the App Store.
    I don't.
App Store announced the latest version but the download yielded those I mentioned.
App Store doesn't let me try again, so ...
Can you help me to trigger "This solved my question"?
    Regards

hello everyone!  i have a new macbook pro and i want to download aperture.  my app store says it is already installed (on my old macbook pro).  how do i install aperture from the app store in this instance please?

Are yoy sure that Apeture is not in the Applications folder of the new system? If it is move it to the trash and the App Store will let you download Aperture from it.
You will need to make sure you use the same Apple ID you used to purchase it in the past.

Try to Restore with iTunes on your computer. If this does not work, there is full Warranty. Make Genius reservation or set up service and take or send to Apple for resolution.

Hi my case numbers is 30758085. I just try download apps store on my Verizon iPhone 4 but they keep ask me billling payment so I use my credit card but keep said wrong security codes so I check my apple itune balances said I owe itune 22.00 dollars but it not my apps download on my phone I always get free apps Download

Please don't post case numbers or other personal information here. None of us here (who will respond, anyway) work for Apple; we're all just fellow users.
Anyway, as regards the security code issue, this may help:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1646
and as regards the balance, first make sure you didn't make any in-app purchases. Many "free" apps, particularly games, have additional levels or features that cost money. Check your purchase history in your iTunes Store account and see what you're being charged for.

  • App store not showing app I bought as "installed"

(I already posted this under "Snow Leopard" because the link to App Store from the main page was broken. Now I found it here)
I bought several apps from the App store before March 30. They all show up under the "Purchased" tab.  Also, the "Buy" button in the main application page says "Installed".  So far so good.
However, this is not the case with the application I bought yesterday (iPhoto).  While it shows up under "Purchases", the "Buy" button say "14.99 buy" and if I click on it I get the message "Couldn't complete purchase because you already have it. Check Software Updates on your Mac for available updates".
That is, it behaves as if I hadn't bought it from the App Store and I will not get App Store updates.  This is exactly what it tells me about pre App Store software such as Pages and Numbers.
Finally, I have the old iPhoto too (renamed iPhoto09). However I have both the App Store iMovie (11) and the CD one (iMovie 09) and that didn't cause this problem.
How do I fix this?  More technical pointers to how App Store and classic Software Updates work and interact are welcome (maybe this can be fixed by editing some system files).
    Thanks in advance

This is exactly what it tells me about pre App Store software such as Pages and Numbers.
Unfortunately that is not correct behavior either. If you have an Apple app that you acquired from another source, all the MAS should do is show you that app for sale, as it does any other app.
    I would download the 10.6.7 uPdate Combo;
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1361
    Remove the MAS with the free AppCleaner to get all of its auxillary files;
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/appcleaner.html
After removing the MAS, restart and install the Update Combo. Be sure to Repair Permissions with Disk Utility before and after the installation. While installing the Update Combo do not multitask, let the Mac install the Update Combo with nothing else happening.
The update will install a new MAS which hopefully behaves better.

  • App Store says Xcode isn't installed, but it's on my computer.

I installed Xcode on the 6th of August, but now - 23rd of August - in the App Store > Purchased Xcode's button "install" is blue, and install when clicked.
    What's wrong?

Xcode 4.1 was released two days before the 6th of August, and it is the one I installed. Yesterday the App Store said that all my apps had been installed, which they had.
It must therefore be a glich. The problem is that I asked it to download, and it's taking an extremely long time, ranging between 1h 50mins to 1day 20h, so I can't launch it from the LaunchPad.

  • Want to download a previously deleted app but the app store says it's already installed

While updating the 'Tumblr' app on my iPod, my internet connection went down and the updating stopped. When I regained internet connection I clicked the app and it just deleted. Now, when I go to the app store to try and install the app again, it says I already have the app and the downloading button is replaced with an  'open' button.
I've already checked the iPod and it hasn't been moved around or into a folder. If somebody could help I'd be very grateful!

What happens when you tap the "Open" button?
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Download the app on your computer and sync
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • App Store Update Shows Incorrect Status

App store shows iPhoto 9.3.2 as an available update but I have already downloaded and installed it. Any thoughts on how to correct this?

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico my first language is Spanish. I do not speak English, however I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
The Mac App Store can see the apps on attached drives and partitions. Do you have a backup drive connected that has the older version of the app on it?

  • App Store indicates new iWork is installed, but it isn't

    Hi all,
I had iWork '09 installed prior to updating to OS X Mavericks. After updating to OS X Mavericks, I went to the Mac App Store to update the iWork apps. The install seemed to go fine, but afterwords the iWork apps weren't in my Mac's apps folder but the Mac App Store did indicate that the new iWork apps were installed.
I did some research online and found potential solutions, but none of those worked: rebooting my Mac, uninstalling and reinstalling the iWork apps, creating a new admin account and trying to install the new iWork apps from that account, trying to install the new iWork apps from the Guest account, and using Cocktail to clear all my caches. The Mac App Store still indicates that the new iWork apps are installed, but none of them are in my apps folder.
I'm at a loss as to what to do next. If anyone has encountered a similar situation and resolved it successfully, I'd really appreciate it if you could post here what worked for you so I can try that.
    Thanks,
    Nikolaus

I found the reason I couldn't originally find the newly installed iWork apps was because they were installed on external drives which just happened to have folders named "Applications". Spotlight found them, I added them to my dock, right clicked on the iWork apps and chose the "Show in Finder" option. Two of the iWork apps were on one external drive and the other was on another external drive. I ended up just dragging them to my MacBook Pro's hard drive and deleting the ones on the external drives.
