App Store updates preload the wrong Apple ID

So I upgraded the family iMac to Mavericks, and now I'm trying to update associated programs, iphoto imovie, etc.  When I click update the app store preloads an app store account from this computer's previous owner, and asks for his password.  The apple ID half of the login screen is gryed and I can't click in it to change to our account.  Any thoughts?
I'm logged into itunes and the app store for new purchases with my own account, it's only these updates that this happens for.. It wasn't ever a problem with Mountain Lion.
I do have the correct apple ID associated with this login, so I'm not sure how it even sees and old apple ID.
Thanks in advance.

In order to update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased them. Apps are permanently locked to the account that purchased them. If there are apps that need updating yo have to update then one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.

  • Sign in to download from the App Store screen has the wrong Apple ID- grayed out. How can I change it?

When I have a software update notification and I go to the 'Updates" tab of the App Store and click 'update',  the flash screen 'Sign in to download from the App Store comes up the the Apple ID is wrong and grayed out so I can't change it.  Where is the bogus Apple ID stored? How can I 'ungray' it to make it editable?
I'm running Mavericks 10.9.4 on an IMAC 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5.

You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store alert. For example, the App Store may prompt you to update "Angry Birds" or "Twitter," but the hacked app may be something else entirely. Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you must carry out a systematic search with Spotlight.
    1. Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kMDItemAppStoreHasReceipt=1
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    2. In the Finder, press command-F to open a search window, or select
              File ▹ Find
from the menu bar. In the search window, select
              Search: This Mac
from the row of tokens below the toolbar. Below that is a popup menu of search criteria, initially showing Kind. From that menu, select
              Other...
A sheet will drop down. In that sheet, select
              Raw Query
as the criterion, then click OK or press return.
Now there will be a text box to the right of the menu of search criteria. That's where you enter the raw search query. Click in that box and paste the text you copied earlier by pressing command-V.
    4. The search window will now show all the App Store products that are installed. Compare those search results with the list of your purchases from the App Store. To see the complete list, you may need to unhide hidden purchases. If any apps were download from the App Store using other Apple ID accounts that you control, sign in to the store under each of those ID's and check the purchases.
At least one of the apps in the Spotlight search results is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash, after quitting it if it's running. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
Quit and relaunch the App Store. Test.
If you find these instructions confusing, ask for an alternative method.

  • Updates in the App-store are using the wrong apple-id.

    Hi
My daughter has an Ipod touch.
At first we used the apple-id of my office.
But now we use our own. The apple-id of the office is deleted. That emailadress is not valid anymore.
Now is it possible to download new apps. Even iOS6 is downloaded perfectly.
    But updating is another issue.
It keeps asking for the deleted apple-id.
What way can I reset this?
    Thank you.

  • App store (OSX) asking for wrong Apple ID

    Hi all,
I work as an IT technician for a UK University. I have recently setup a new MacBook Pro for one of our users. As part of the setup I installed all the updates via system menu->software update. To do this I was prompted for my Apple ID which I entered and the updates proceeded to download and install.
However now the machin has been passed to it's user, and when they try and update they are prompted for my Apple ID, and cannot change the ID, we have even tried signing out in the App store and signing in as them, but they are still prompted for my Apple ID.
Is there a way to resolve this even if we have to re-download the updates.
    Cheers.
    Phill.

Well it's actually a MacBook Pro, not an iPad.......
But I was planning to try a re-install of OS, to see if that would fix it. Laptop is back with it's owner currently so she can back her data up first.
Since this was supplied with 10.9 pre-installed is there a way we can get a restore image ? Since 10.9 only seems to be available as an upgrade to 10.8 through the App store, or will 10.8 install on a current MacBook Pro ?
    Cheers.
    Phill.

  • App Store FAIL: prompts for wrong Apple ID

After changing to a new, valid Apple ID & password in Settings / Store, the App Store app still prompts for the password to an old Apple ID previously used on my iPhone 3G. No amount of syncing in iTunes, or restarting the iPhone, or performing a restore in iTunes, corrects this, and the App Store app cannot be deleted. What must be done to force the App Store app to recognize updated Store settings in Settings???

"You are logged in with your new Apple ID with iTunes on your computer when syncing your iPhone with iTunes?"
It happens immediately upon opening App Store (touching the icon). I suspect the last time it was used, it was on the updates tab. The problem is that the App Store app doesn't fetch the current Settings/Store ID before starting an update check, and doesn't give me any way to change to the new ID within itself.
In iTunes, I am logged in with the new Apple ID, and have synced with no errors. And I have tried signing out in iTunes and in iPhone's Settings/Store, then signing in to my new Apple ID (actually it's my daughter's Apple ID, I gave my old 3G to her) in iTunes, connecting the iPhone USB, syncing, then signing in to new ID in Settings/Store, all to no avail.
Regardless of DRM issues, the App Store app should use the Apple ID stored in Settings/Store, then if during update checking if it finds an app purchased with another ID, prompt the user for that ID's password, or offer to remove the app.

  • When I click on my iPad App Store Updates, the wrong apple ID is showing up. When I go under settings the correct one is displayed under the app store.

When I click on my iPad App Store Updates, the wrong apple ID is showing up. When I go under settings the correct one is displayed under the app store.

Does the wrong Apple ID show up with a particular App or all Apps?
Apps are linked to the ID they were purchased with, so if you have Apps purchased with different IDs you may need to logout with one then log in with another to update the second one.
We've also seen were "free" Apps are downloaded from the Internet, but they are not really free but instead were just hacked by a different user so need to be updated with that account.  That can prevent updates.  If so, it's best to delete the bogus app and get a good copy from the App Store.

  • When I try to update my apps the wrong apple ID shows up how do I change it

I am trying to update my apps and the wrong apple ID username comes up for a password . How do I change it to be mine?

Go into the Settings app and select Store. The account displayed should be the one you are being prompted to supply the password for. You can press that button and it should give you the option to sign out of that account. Once you do that you will be able sign in with another account or create a new one. As noted by the previous poster, changing accounts will not change the ownership of the apps already purchased.

  • Mac App Store update: right Apple ID but wrong user account

My Mac App Store updates get associated to the wrong user account but the correct Apple ID.
I live in Germany and have an iMac and a MacBook Pro, both purchased under Snow Leopard and now running Lion 10.7.2. Just after upgrading to Lion I "purchased" a free App (BibleReader 5.0.0). This morning I logged into my wife's user account on the MacBook Pro, and the App Store icon flagged an update. I switched to my user account and was surprised to see that the update wasn't flagged there. By listing my purchases I did suceed in finding an "update" button for BibleReader, but pressing it resulted in a (German) error message whch translates as "An update is available for another account. Please log in with the account you used to purchase the App". But that is what I had just done.
Intrigued I went back to my wife's user account. By logging onto the Mac App Store with my Apple ID from my wife's user account I did manage to update the app. Later at work I got the same error message on the iMac. But this time the only other user account on the machine belongs to Computing Services: I don't have their password and I ought not to use admin rights to gain access to their account. So I can't perform the upgrade on the iMac.
All family iTunes / App Store purchases are via my main Apple ID. My wife's user account on the MacBook Pro only exists so that I can manually synchronise our iCloud address books (she has an iPad).
    Any ideas?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
All the applications you purchase on the App Store are registered to your Apple ID, so you have to use your Apple ID to update them, or you have to purchase those applications again using the Apple ID they are using on that computer, so they will be able to update them

    Content and Apple IDs -
Content is forever tied to the Apple ID that bought it. Apple does not transfer content from one Apple ID to another. Apple does not merge Apple IDs. You will never be able to access your content bought with one Apple ID with a new Apple ID.

  • My iPad shows the wrong apple I'd when I try to update my apps

I checked the settings and my correct apple ID is tthere but whenever I try to update an app, it shows the wrong apple  ID and I can't change it.

    dcre wrote:
Yes, it's an old Apple ID that was changed at least 2 years ago.
There is a difference between creating a new Apple ID and changing the username that you use for your Apple ID. If you got a new email address and changed the old Apple ID to reflect the new email address, that new ID should work with previously purchased apps.
So did you just change the username (the new email address)  for your Apple ID or did you actually create a new Apple ID? If you created a new Apple ID, you will not be able to use that new ID to update the old apps. You will have to continue to use the old ID and password to update those previously purchased apps.

The apps were purchased by another user with a different Apple ID. You will have to erase them and repurchase them using your Apple ID.

  • When I attempt to download from the app store, the wrong apple id pre-populates.  How do I get the correct apple id to auto-fill so I can put in the right password and download apps?

When my wife bought this ipad 18 months ago, she (or the store) set up an Apple ID that had the extension @me.com.  She never wrote down the password that was created.  Neither of us knew how to change the password and retrieve or create the new one.  When we started actually trying to download apps, this became a problem.  She called customer support before the first year of ownership ended, and they created a new Apple ID.  This ID works; we can go to the support site and log in with it, yada yada.  However, when I go to the app store and want to get a new app or update an existing app, the Apple ID login field prepopulates with her original ID, which is no good to us.  I can't find any way of putting in the new, valid Apple ID in this login field.  Why doesn't the app store give me the option to change the Apple ID this device wants to use?  How do I change this setting?  I'm in a time crunch, and we need to be able to download and use a few apps for some business purposes.

settings -> iTunes & App Store
click on apple ID listed there
    select Sign Out
sign in with the proper account
from then on, when the store ask for your password it should be with the correct ID

What happened was you never accepted these apps into your Mac App Store account.
Drag & drop the apps in the Trash and use OS X Recovery to install them again. after installing the apps be sure to accept them into your account this time from the Purchases pane of the Mac App Store.
