App store wants me to update apps already updated!!

what is with Apple's App Store??? I am using Mac OS X 10.6.8, the app store says I need to update apps that were updated months ago, ***??? ...once in a while I have a similar problem with iTunes app updates also, it will download apps but then it claims there's one that still needs to be downloaded, I keep doing this until I realize it's the same app and it's already downloaded.

let me rephrase that...the app store indicated I needed to update several apps to the version they have already been updated to.
problem is gone, hours later I go to app store and it is operating normally.
anyone know why this happens?

  • Unwanted App which the app store wants me to update, and I cannot delete it.

I have an App wanting to be updated that I cannot update or remove because it was not downloaded on my account.  It has been there for over a year and it does not show up anywhere on my computer.  Why is it in my app store if it is not on my account?  Spotlight does not find it in the search.

You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store alert. For example, the App Store may prompt you to update "Angry Birds" or "Twitter," but the hacked app may be something else entirely. Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you must carry out a systematic search with Spotlight.
    1. Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kMDItemAppStoreHasReceipt=1
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    2. In the Finder, press command-F to open a search window, or select
    File ▹ Find
from the menu bar. In the search window, select
    Search: This Mac
from the row of tokens below the toolbar. Below that is a popup menu of search criteria, initially showing Kind. From that menu, select
    Other...
A sheet will drop down. In that sheet, select
    Raw Query
as the criterion, then click OK or press return.
Now there will be a text box to the right of the menu of search criteria. That's where you enter the raw search query. Click in that box and paste the text you copied earlier by pressing command-V.
    4. The search window will now show all the App Store products that are installed. Compare those search results with the list of your purchases from the App Store. To see the complete list, you may need to unhide hidden purchases. If any apps were download from the App Store using other Apple ID accounts that you control, sign in to the store under each of those ID's and check the purchases.
At least one of the apps in the Spotlight search results is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash, after quitting it if it's running. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
Quit and relaunch the App Store. Test.
If you find these instructions confusing, ask for an alternative method.

  • HT5648 The App store wants me to update to Java 1.6.0_41 -- but I already have the latest Java 1.7 ver. downloaded from Oracle.

How do I remove the Java 1.6.0_41 update from App Store updates list without actually installing it? I don't want to revert to an older Java than what I got from Oracle just a week ago (Java "1.7.0_11").
PS, I thought Apple was no longer doing its own Java version anymore and that maintenance for Java for Mac was now in Oracle's hands. What gives?

You should not ignore it as that will leave you with an unsafe version of Java SE 6 integrated into your system. If you shoud ever need to revert from Java 7 to Java 6 (which many users have found necessary for compatibility reasons) that would leave you open to attack. It's very difficult to remove Java 6 so you might as well keep it up-to-date.

The agreement was that Apple would continue to update Java 6 and Oracle would take over at Java 7.  Both can exist on your computer, though in general, only one will be active at any given time.  Oracle's public support for Java 6 ends this month and without it Apple will be hard pressed to continue after that date, but we'll all just have to wait and see how that goes.

  • App Store want me to update a game that I have never installed

No - but my fault. I was logged in at App Store with another appleid.

  • Updating a Single Edition app already on the App Store

If a DPS Single Edition app is submitted to the Apple app store, can it be updated every couple months with new content or will Apple restrict that? For those users who have already downloaded the DPS Single Edition app, will those users automatically get a notification that a new version of the app is available at the App store? Basically, I have a client who woud like to create a Single Edition publication app with DPS but they want to roll it out with one article at a time and continue to add to the same app/folio. The folio/app may get some additional changes to the cover and TOC. Is that all possible? and will users be notified when the new app is available?

Thanks. There's a lot of work that goes into one of these things. It's
not something you can just throw together.
Apple reviews them pretty carefully. It is always best to spell out that
you cannot be held responsible for a rejection of an app by Apple, but
at the same time, you need to educate yourself and your client on what
    is and isn't acceptable.
There is a gray area and I've seen some pretty nice apps rejected, but
often they will be approved on an appeal.

Have you tried signing out of your iTunes & App Store on your device and then back in again - Settings>iTunes & App Store, click on Apple ID, then on Sign Out. Then sign in again and see if it accepts the password.
If that doesn't resolve the issue,  try resetting your device (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the reset is complete, the Slide to Unlock screen will display. See if the problem is resolved.

  • Update iMovie - Store wants to download full app, not an update package

I want to update iMove from 9.0.1 (purchased via the App Store) to 9.0.2 (because we are getting an audio sync problem on exported movies for which this update says it has a fix). From the web update page I downloaded the iMoview9.0.2Update.pkg and got a 27.5MB file but, on running it, it says I have to update via the App Store. But the App Store wants billing information and then starts to download a 500MB+ file which is presumably the full application so I immediately stopped the download because I am in a remote area on a low-speed satellite connection with a 3GB monthly limit.
Am I stuck with downloading the full 500MB+ file by going through the App Store? Was I about to be charged for the app again?
    Thanks - Cathy.

It appears from my recent experience that updates are a full new version of the app in question. So after it verifies your account as the one who "owns" the license to use the app, it will not recharge you for the app, but will then allow its download. This is good for you because it means no one in your household can be willy nilly using your download allotment without your knowledge to update apps if they do not have access to your iTunes/MAS account information.
You may want to check the size of installed apps before proceeding with the update so as to stay within your download allotment in a given ISP billing period.

  • Mac App Store keep request for update an application that I already uninstall from my MBP?

I updated my mbp to 10.6.6 which come with mac app store. I was so happy to get myself some apps there. eg: DropCopy (free) and some games of course. After given some try, i decided to uninstall DropCopy from my mbp, and also the related .plist files. Few weeks later, when DropCopy come with an update, i found that there are an update notification from mac app store. I've tried to update then uninstalled it again, the update notification still there! I've write an e-mail to the developer, they replied that's a bug come from mac app store and they can't do anything to solve that. So i decide to wait for an update from Apple. When it come with an update to 10.6.7, I get my mbp updated for sure. However, the problem still there! The mac app store still appear an update of DropCopy even I've already uninstall it from my mbp. How can i solve it or remove the update notification?

iTunes is currently having problems in reference to the apps. If you have icloud, then toggle contacts off/on. If not then restore from itune backup

  • App Store wants to update an older version of OS X Server...

    Hello All,
Ap Store wants to update an old version of Server somewhere on my drives. Is there any other way to delete or hide this update in App Store (MAS) rather than track down and delete the old version. It's probably on a backup drive on this Mac Mini Server and I'd rather not delete it now.
    Screen shot from MAS...

    Linc Davis wrote:
Search "This Mac" in the Finder for outdated copies of Server and delete any you find.
Sorry, Linc, that wasn't it. However, on a hunch and from your comments, a search of LOCALLY Connected drives (my backups) for a visible file, "Server.app" in this version or previous found that ANY appearance of an older version (2.2.2) triggered the warning on Mac App Store (MAS). Sadly, I had to delete ALL the old versions on locally connected drives to get the persistent warning to disappear, for some reason I could not find a way to ignore this software update (that used to be available in MAS).

    Software Update
If you have Keynote 6.1 installed and working; ignore the update message, there is no need to download it again it just a minor bug in the update system.
    not opening Keynote files
Most problems are caused by trying to open version 6 files in the version 5 application.
Right click on the Keynote file select open with and choose Keynote 6.

  • How do I remove an old username from the app store when using the update function

How do I remove an old username from the app store when using the update function.
I purchased my Mac used.  The former owners username prepopulates when I try to perform the updated function on the app store.  It does not allow me to use a different user name.    I have created my own username and password.  I have even been able to purchase items from the app store, it's just when I use the update function it does populate with my username.  Any help is appreciated.

The first thing to do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. You — not the previous owner — must do that. How you do it depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
    1. You don't own another Mac.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. Preferably, install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for some MacBook Air models. For early MBA models, you may need a USB optical drive or Remote Disc. You should have received the media from the previous owner, but if you didn't, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
    2. You do own another Mac.
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to create a bootable USB device and boot the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. Alternatively, if you have a Time Machine backup of OS X 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a Time Capsule or other network device), you can boot from that by holding down the option key and selecting it from the row of icons that appears. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
Once booted in Recovery, launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. You will need the Apple ID and password that you used to upgrade. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
Then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. To upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them.
If the previous owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Apple customer service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to  authorize it immediately under your ID. In that case, you'll either have to wait up to 90 days or contact iTunes Support.

  • Why does the App Store want to me download Mavericks again?

I have a MacBook Pro that I updated to OS X Mavericks 10.9.1 about a week ago. I was perusing the App Store today and it wants me to "Update" Mavericks, which entails me downloading 5 GB. I think it's confused is basically asking me to re-download the entire Mavericks. Why is it asking me to do that?
Thanks for any answers. PS, the App Store is kind of the bane of my existence.

Yeah, it's asking me to download the installer again. It wants me to "install" Mavericks (even though I already have it!). I decided to go ahead download it, but now I'm wondering if I need to re-install Mavericks for it to stop telling me to install it. It's just kind of concerning that it thinks I still need to install Mavericks. Thanks for your help.

  • Ipad app store no longer shows updates

ipad app store no longer shows updates. was working fine until a couple days ago - whwt can I do?

If you are getting the blank app update screen, many people are having this problem over the last couple of days.
According to Fly150 in another discussion, this will work.
If you want to update the Apps while waiting for Apple to fix Updates:
    1. Go to App Store
    2. Select Purchased
    3. Select All
    4. Scroll down to find the Apps showing update
    5. Select update on the Apps
This should update the Apps and get rid of the update count in App Store. Apple needs to fix this. It is a workaround only until then.
