App Store will not install purchased applications

Something is going on with my new iMac here. I have been able to download and install all of my purchased applications up until a few days ago. I pay for the application, hit "Install", it gets dropped into my "launchpad" view and then proceeds to go through a tedious process of "Calculating". This particular application is stuck at 0KB of 2.21MB total, then, tells me that it is Installed". Yet, when I check my launchpad view it is grayed up with a progress bar that is fully completed.
I have tried resetting the App Store, signing in / out, running debug tools, rebooting, removing the app directory to no avail.
It shouldn't be this hard.

Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy then select the General tab.
Click the gold padlock icon to make changes. You may be prompted for your admin password.
Select:   Mac App Store and identified developers
Click the lock to save changes.
Now try downloading apps.
If that doesn't help, disable anti virus software and turn off the Firewall in System Preferernces > Security & Privacy then try again.
Third party download managers are not compatible with the App Store.
Apps such as Little Snitch or Net Nanny can prevent apps from downloading also.

My Machine MacBook Pro  OS 10.6.8
    Processor 2.66Ghz i7,
    4GB memory
    128GB solid state drive

Thanks very much for the advice. I trawled through the other answers on the site and it appears others had the same issue. I doubled the available space and the install went like clockwork... which is what one would norma;ly expect from Apple :-)
Maybe Apple should have a ' definitely read me first' notice before a download takes place with CLEAR instructions to have more than the 6GB they indicate ofr the Mountain Lion download

  • Mac App store will not install / run

My mac says that OSX 10.6.6 is installed. If I attempt in launch the app store, the icon appears in the dock briefly then disappears. It is the same if its launched from Applications or Apple menu. I tried to uninstall the app store then re- installing 10.6.6 combo but I get an 'Unknown error occurred during the installation of this software....' The App re-appears in the Apps folder but still fails to run. I have checked disk permissions, tried re-installing but the same error persists.

    Hi,
Follow the instructions at this link...

  • App purchased on App Store will not Install...

I'm on an Intel iMac OS 10.6.8. My Mac has 3 accounts on it, me, wife and Kids.
Wife purchased "Numbers" from App store yesterday in her account on her Apple Id. The App's Icon jumped from App Store into the Dock and the dock icon indicated that the app was downloading like it's supposed to. However once the download had completed the App was nowhere to be found and clicking on the dock Icon did absolutely nothing. A search of the Applications folder confirmed the App was not Installed.
Going back into the App store and looking in the Purchased section showed Numbers was purchased and the button said "Install" rather than "Installed" so we downloaded again with the same results. Have done this half a dozen times and Numbers just refuses to install.
I have downloaded other App's in her account without any problems. We did have a demo of iWork on the Mac a while ago but that was deleted, don't know if that may have anything to do with it. Have tried all the obvious like permissions repair etc. email to Apples App store support team was a waste of time, no useful information in there.
    Any help would be appreciated...

Done that and it's definitely nowhere to be found. Have just been on the phone to Apple support for over an hour and still not sorted the problem. The wife has now gone to work and she won't tell me her Apple password so even though I have a few other options to try I can't untill later on.
Going to try installing later on in Safe Mode, see if that works...
Meanwhile... twiddles thumbs and hopes for any more advice.
    Thanks all!

  • Imovie (bought from app store) will not install?

I hope someone can help! I have purchased imovie from the app store for my Mac Book Pro (OS X 10.6.8). When I click on it to instal it via the app store the icon appears in the dock and the download appears to progress as it should. After the installation is "complete" then icon in the dock simply disappears, but the app store tells me that it is "installed". I then open up the applications folder (because there is no longer an imovie icon in the dock, only when it is "installing"), and it is simply not there? Also tried using finder / manual search of whole computer! and can't find any sign of it?
After restarting computer I can go into the app store click on the icon and "install" it again? But still get the same problem.
Also installed a couple of simple apps from the app store to check that there's no bug in installing apps. Both successfully installed into the dock, no problems.
Can any one help? App is bought and payed for!

Bit of extra information: just looked in system preferences / software updates / installed software. Here it tells me it has been installed. By I still can't find it on my computer??

  • App Store will not install anything on Snow Leopard

I just fixed (replaced HD) a Mac Book Pro 2010 with 8GB of ram. I install Snow Leopard in it and updated everything. Now I can't install anything using App Store. First, I wanted to upgraded to Yosemite, but clicking on the Download anything was not doing anything.
Then I tried to install anything else. Nothing works. Basically, App Store is useless here.
I opened Console and I see this error every time I click any install or download button:
    12/15/14 10:03:09 AM
    App Store[260]
    ERROR: ITSExceptionHandler: {message:"TypeError: 'undefined' is not a function", url:"unknown (might be html-embedded script?)", lineNumber:"unknown"}
I suspect the App Store is using some embedded JS code that is not compatible with the old version of Safari used in Snow Leopard.
Can anyone provide any help with this?

I completely agree that torrents are a perfect place to inject nefarious bits of code and I meant only to highlight the extremes that I needed to go to in order to workaround this bug. As for the illegal part, I already own the software and was unable to access it from the app store as a result of Apple's failure to put safeguards in place concerning compatibility issues (even if SL is a dead OS). Were apple to provide any of the following things I would not have needed to resort to torrent files:
    1. Provide hard copies of OSX (not just dead ones)
    2. Provide DL links when purchasing OSX (not just app store codes)
    3. Provide support (just to chat with a representative costs $30)
In the end I am confident that there are no "extra" bits of code but required a lot of extra work. I used the copy of mavericks only to download the installer for Yosemite from the now working App Store which I then produced a bootable USB drive from. Then I did a clean install of OSX Yosemite (erased and installed on HD). After that I booted to recovery mode and once again erased my HD and installed Yosemite from the now present recovery partition.

  • HT1338 Mac App Store will not install Mountain Lion update

I am having an issue where I try to install the 10.8.4 update from the Mac App Store.  I click on the button and it says it needs to restart to install.  I tell it to restart and install but it does nothing.  I get the Mac App store back with it asking me to install the update again.  Looking at the infobox I see that I am still on 10.8.3.
Any thoughts on how to fix this?
    Thanks

    Give this a try:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
After this is completed download and install 10.8.4 Mountain Lion Update v10.8.4 (Combo).

  • App Store will not Install compatible apps for older iOS versions.

Note to Apple, fix the App store so we can install a compatible version of an app for older iOS versions.
My iPad 1 maxed out at iOS 5.1.1. If I want to install a new app with this device ( one I have not ever installed), and the latest app says iOS 7 and above, ithe app store won't let me install an older compatible version, even if older versions used to be previously available .
I think Apple is trying to convince me to buy a Galaxy Tab for my next tablet.  They are basically telling me to throw away my old iPad because it is no longer compatible with the newest iOS version 7 on the app store. You want that new app? If the latest version is only ios7 compatible, you're outta luck sukka.

We are fellow users here on these forums, you are not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple. Whether an older version of an app is available depends upon the developer.

  • Update Evernote in Mac App store will not install

1 update available, but it has already the status "Installed". I removed the entire Evernote app and tried to dowwload a full new version from the store in order to wipe this update. This did not work, I also downloaded a full version direct from Evernote and installed it but it did not clear the presented update in the store. That was BTW a solution from the Evernote support team.
How can I get rid of this qued update?

I had the same situation, but what I forgot was that my laptop also had Evernote installed.  If I hadn't gone back and updated the laptop, them my system was still vulnerable. My desktop showed the updated version installed, but the store kept saying I needed to update it.  I posted on this forum and it was suggested I check for installion on a different device.  As soon as I updated on the laptop, the message from the store went away.

  • The iMovie 11 update I just bought from the App Store will not install on Macbook Pro

I have a Macbook Pro and I have iLife 09, I updated all the other iLife 09 apps to iLife 11 (iPhoto, Garage Band) . So I bought the update for iMovie yesterday and it seems to downloaded fine but when I click the install button it doesn't do anything. Can you guys point me in the right direction to get this installed
    Thanks

You have a corrupted old system. At the very least you need to repair the hard drive and permissions before trying to install Mountain Lion. However, this my not be sufficient. You may need to reinstall your old system before trying to install Mountain Lion.
Of course it would be more useful were you to provide the full information on the error message and what OS X version you currently have installed. Also check that you can install Mountain Lion on your model:
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Select
    /var/log ▹ install.log
from the hierarchical list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Then select the messages from the last installation or update attempt, starting from the time when you initiated it. If you're not sure when that was, start over and note the time. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).

  • My app store will not open. when i try to open it i get an error that reads "You can't open the application App Store because it may be damaged or incomplete". How can I fix this?

my app store will not open. when i try to open it i get an error that reads "You can't open the application App Store because it may be damaged or incomplete". How can I fix this?

I am having the exact same problem.  MacForums has been helping me, and I called Apple.  After trying everyone's suggestions, and Apple's, no success.
My App Store app still says "incomplete or damaged."  There is even a circle with a line through it on the icon.  Apple said reinstall my Snow Leopard upgrade disc (not my original Leopard disc) and then run the Combo Update (like your suggestion).  Did not work.  I also updated the software from "Software Update".  Rebooted.
I think this started after I replaced my hard drive with a SSD and moved the hard drive to where the DVD was.  I wonder if the person above who had the same problem also installed a SSD?
Anyway, anymore ideas?  Even Apple is stumped.
(In answer to the other post above, my Quicktime works fine.)

Just did some more reading.  I was going by the icon in the dock.  When I checked in Finder, there it was, fixed and brand new!!  Thanks, anyway.

  • How do I download an app from the Mac App Store but not install it yet?

How do I download an app from the Mac App Store but not install it yet?
Can I simply download it and not install?
What if the App gets updated before I download it?
Why? Well, I am very busy and wish to install at my leisure even though I have purchased the App (required at a specific day in the month in order to appear on my business accounts).
    Thanks.

There is a difference in what Kappy stated and what you stated. A major paid upgrade (v2.x to v3.0), yes, costs money, as it would in any other delivery stream. Updates (v3.0 to v3.1) to a a major version are free.
Most apps sold through the Mac App Store (MAS) are the type that use the simple drag & drop installation. Those are downloaded directly to the designated apps folder and installation is done. Large pro-type apps download an installer to your Apps folder. Those you can install at your leisure. The MAS does not have a lot of apps using this type of installation.
Be sure to always backup your MAS purchases, because there is no guarantee that the app will always be available for download in the future and it is your responsibility to archive copies.

  • Mac App store will not allow me to sign in...I have done all the updates on my Mac???

Mac App store will not allow me to sign in so I can't purchase or update app's...it has worked before?  I have done all updates for Mac...

Do you not see the sign in sheet?
Mac App Store: Sign in sheet does not appear, or does not accept typed text
And if you have anti virus software installed, disable that before trying to access the App Store.
If you have Litlte Snich installed, that can prevent access to the App Store.
Keep in mind, you can't update your existing apps from another Apple ID if you create a new account.
