App Store won't launch

My macbook automatically updated to the new OS X version of Yosemite last night.  I really hate automatic updates, i don't know why it was on, i thought i had turned it off.  Anyway, the thing is, it updated and now the app store app won't launch.  I want to open the app to turn off automatic updates and of course, download a few apps since im on a new, three weeks old mac book.  I don't know if this is an issue with the new OS X version and if it is, how can i fix it? As far as i know, you have to open the App Store to update the OS and now that app won't launch.  So what can I do to fix the problem with the App Store app?   Please help.

Go to App Store and download. If it doesn't help, press Shift key when your Mac starts up, go to App Store > Purchases and download Mountain Lion

  • App Store won't launch/work on OSX

    Hey all,
This problem has been bothering me for over a year and i cant seem to solve it. I hope you can help me out!
The problem is alot of programs simply dont work (appstore, mail, terminal, agenda) but the main program would be App Store since i need that to get Yosemite. When i try to run (one of) these programs, they dont even start but just quit instantly. (Only mail works, but when i open a mail; it quits).
    I tried the following:
Deleting files from the library-cache (also: preferences and cookies)
Logging in and out my user
Logging into another user and trying to launch App Store
    Disk recovery first aid things
Security & Privacy settings set to "App Store only"
All of the above dont seem to work for me, i have absolutely no idea what to do next... Do you have any more ideas??

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
As the apps that do not work are OS X base applications, I would recommend you to reinstall OS X. Hold down Command and R keys while your Mac is starting up to boot up in OS X Recovery and reinstall OS X. The applications should work properly after the reinstallation.
If that does not work, you will have to make a backup of your user files, format the disk and reinstall OS X with OS X Recovery (following the steps above). In order to format the disk, you will find Disk Utility after booting up in OS X Recovery, so open it and follow these steps -> http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html

  • My App Store won't launch. How can I get this fixed?

Every time I try to launch the App Store on my iPhone 5s, it launches and quickly closes. I've reset, synced with iTunes, and turned the phone on and off. Nothing works.

    Hi, Songman23.
There are a couple of things you can try.  The first would be to reset all settings.  Go toSettings > General > Reset > Reset all settings.
If the issue persists, try signing out of all services that require signing into your Apple ID and then signing back in.

  • 10.9.4 installed, now Software Update and App Store won't open

    Ahoy.
I installed the 10.9.4 update and now Software Update and the App Store won't open.  I don't know what other information might be relevant here.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • App store won't open after installing OS 10.9.2

I installed OS 10.9.2 and now my app store won't open.  When I launch it from the dock, the icon bounces and the light illuminates beneath the icon indicating that it is running however no screen ever pops up.  I launched the app store from the applications page and the same thing happened.  I tried restarting the computer and holding the shift key upon reboot but this did nothing as well.  This is incredibly annoying.

Are you getting the menu bar at the top?
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.
You might need to redo the View settings after an update.

I have Numbers vers 2.3. The app store won't sell me vera 3.2 - it says it's installed. How can I buy it?  Thanks

    Hi Exaluman,
If you had Numbers 2.3, it may be that an automatic update has installed Numbers 3.2 on your machine. App Store will detect that installation.
Wayne Contello has written a User Tip for working with the old and new versions of iWork.
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6991
The trick is to drag icons for both versions to your Dock. Right click or control click on each and Options > Keep in Dock. That puts you in charge of which version you launch.
Here is a screen shot of both Numbers icons on my Dock.
Numbers 2.3 (Numbers '09) on the left with a three column graph.
Numbers 3.2 on the right with a four column graph.
Both versions will run happily together. Just be sure which version is opening your document.
Instead of double clicking the document, run whichever version of Numbers/Pages/Keynote suits and use File > Open.
    Regards,
    Ian.

  • My app store won't let me download none of the older versions of apps for my ipod touch 2g.

My app store won't let me download any of the older versions of an app, but in my sisters case she can and she has an ipod touch 2g just like me. She was able to download kik, twitter, instagram, and some more apps that told me I had to have ios 4.3.1 or higher to download. and theres only one app I want and its kik, can someone help me figure out whats wrong with my app store, it would be a great help.

Starting when iOS 7 was released, Apple now allows downloading the last compatible version of some apps (iOS 4.2.1 and later only)
App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.

  • Installing 10.9.2, "shutdown because of a problem", now Mail won't open and App Store won't work.

While installing OS X 10.9.2, my MacBook Pro suddenly "shut down because of a problem" (which isn't the first time that happened). Checking the Apple menu and "About this Mac" it says I have 10.9.2 installed. I tried to see if I could reinstall the update, figuring something went wrong when the computer shut down, but the App Store won't work, clicking on "Updates" or any other tab doesn't change the screen from the App Store icon in the center. Mail also won't open, which is what I ; I tried to see if I could reinstall the app, but I don't have the CD that the support page said I needed. It seems to be only Mail and FaceTime that won't open so far. How do I fix this?

I took it in to my university's apple care and they wiped and reinstalled the OS.
Next time I will just go in and ask, since it doesn't look like anyone else is getting any real help with this problem!

  • Updated to 10.8.5 and now app store won't work?

I have just updated my Mac 10 version 10.8.5 and now it is saying that the App Store won't work with this version. Itunes also won't open as this obviously hasn't updated properly either.
Has anyone else had this problem? I don't seem to be able to reinstall the App Store either?

    Try the following....
    Mountain Lion Recovery
Boot up from your computer by holding down the command+r keys.  This will take you to the recovery drive.
Select Disk Utility & hit Return.
In Disk Utility select the HD on the left & click on Repair Disk (bottom right).
When done, repair permissions from your desktop DU and restart your computer.  Check SU for further updates.
    Post back your results.
