App suggestions for my 87 y/o mother?

Hi - I'm wondering if anyone can suggest apps for my mother that I can download - particularly mentally stimulating games that she might enjoy. Apps requiring fine motor skills would probably not work - she has arthritis. She does the word and number puzzles in her weekly magazine, so something like would be good but might also enjoy other spatial-manipulation games.
Thanks
Steve

HI...
Not that Alzheimer's is the issue here but these apps might be appropriate. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/alzheimers-apps/id351904904?mt=8
I have rheumatoid arthritis myself. I find the more I type on a keyboard or tap on the iPad, the more flexible my fingers stay and less pain due to inflammation. Perhaps the iPad apps will help your mother.

  • App suggestion for recording on ibook

    Hola!
    quick question:
In windows there was this small little app called sound recorder, or something of the sort.
On my new ibook I have garage band but it's a fairly large type program. I was wondering if anyone could suggest an app that's nice and small just to launch quickly to record material.
    Thanks so much!

    Hi Daniel,
you should try this! Audio In is my favourite application when I just want to record an idea for a new song or anything else. It's simple and quick.

  • App Suggestions for SW2

Will Sony be releasing official apps for Google+ and Hangouts? (like Facebook and Twitter) Also support for "Google Now"?
I'm currently using Watchit for these notifications which is great but official apps would be better. In fact Watchit is the best app there is for the SW2. If any fellow users are not using that already you should download it immediately.
Does the community have anymore suggestions?

There already is a Google+ notifier for the SW2 however it isn't free and I've been unsuccessful in finding a free one https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sonyericsson.extras.liveware.extension.googlepluss...

  • Any microphone&app suggestion for camera recording?

I'd like to record a seminar by my Xperia Z3. I don't want any noise from the audience in the video. So I plan to attach a mic on the speaker's shirt and record the speech from a distance. But I heard some smartphone cameras do not work with bluetooth sets.
Can you suggest a bluetooth/wireless mic model as well as a suitable app for video recording?

You should contact your local Xperia Care to double check compatibility

  • Suggestion for Exercise Motion Tracking App?

I have my favorite calorie (food) tracker (MyPlate) hooked into the new Health app.  I gather that the iOS 8 Health app, doesn't in itself monitor motion, attempt to interpret it as, say walking, climbing, rowing, rowing machine, etc.  I gather that it serves as a gathering point for health-related information, and, like calorie-intake, you need a separate App for interpreting motion and estimating calories burned.  I gather that the Apple Watch will help with that, but until that comes out...
Anybody have any favorite-app suggestions for interpreting motion and estimating calories burned?
The Nike+ app seems to be primarily about running, and presumably walking.  I'm guessing it won't be able to help with stationary exercisers.

    Interesting stuff:
Active Calories (in the Health app) says "No Data."
    When I tap the Active-Calories would-be graph:
    Show All Data:  No Data
Share Data:  With "My Plate" app.
Dietary Calories (calories eaten) clearly are getting forwarded from the "MyPlate" app.
    In the "MyPlate" app:
"Track my activity" is turned on.
Under exercise performed today, "iPhone Daily Steps," meaning that that app is clearly seeing my day-to-day activity, either by reading the accelerometers itself, or by getting it from Health, probably reading it itself.
When I enter the weight-lifting I did this morning into "MyPlate," the Health app doesn't see it, even though MyPlate is listed as a source of info for the Health app.  Ah, but I see that the Health app doesn't appear to have a switch to input exercise information (Carbohydrates, Dietary Calories, Dietary Cholesterol, Fiber, Protein, etc., but no switch for exercise performed.
Turning off "Track my activity" in the MyPlate app, on the Theory (guess anyway) that it's gobbling up the accelerometer data, and thus preventing the Health app from grabbing that information:  I did so and then took a quick walk around the building, and so far, still nothing shows up in the Health app.  I'll keep it off for a while, and see if anything accumulates in the Health app, but it looks like the MyPlate app is seeing my activity.

  • Suggestions for a stylus and drawing app

I want to do some simple freehand drawing on my iPad.  I know nothing about the technology involved, other than the fact that I know it can be done.
Stylus:  Can someone suggest a good stylus?  I've heard of styluses that will make a thin or thick line depending on how hard you press.
App:  Can someone suggest a good app?  For the moment, I'm considering doing only black and white, but I eventually might want to get into multi color.
Upload: Would I be able to transfer my stuff from the iPad to my iMac for printing or publishing to a web page?  I would want my drawing to appear at least as big as the original on the iPad, without having to expand it and have problems with pixellation.

The last thing you need is a script.
When you want to make your TOC, go to Pages, Numbering and Section Options, and put a section prefix in like 1- for each section (both 1 and 2 in your case). Click "Include Prefix When Numbering Pages".
    Then make your TOC.
It will have all the section prefixes. ("1-1", "2-2-4", examples)
Now just change the Numbering and Section Options BACK to your pre-TOC defaults. As long as  you don't update the TOC under Layout/Update TOC, your TOC text will contain the prefix, but your page numbers will look normal. If you have to change the text in the TOC for any reason, do it manually.
Let me know if that works.

  • Suggestion for a needed Walkman app improvement

    Dear Sirs,
Although I’ll sadly have to part from my Sony Z1 (for other issues reported on this forum and to Sony Xperia Care, namely the touchscreen issue), I would still like to leave a suggestion for the most underachieving app (imho) from a Sony Smartphone.
With the long tradition on audio excellence and the Walkman brand, I would suspect that it would be a strong point on a Sony Smartphone. Strangely enough, the Walkman app made me buy a third party app (PowerAmp) to get some basic functionality like I had on my old iPhone 3GS.
One of the most serious faults of the Walkman app is the lack of volume normalization between audio tracks. Although Sony does provide a workaround (which is nothing more than a dynamic range compressor), it doesn’t make any sense (imho) with today’s technology.
Replaygain (for instance) is a free (but very effective) way of normalizing volumes without degrading the sound quality. Many apps like PowerAmp have it, and even iTunes has a proprietary version of it built in on every device for many years now.
As I said before, this can be done with third-party apps and third-party media management software (like JRiver or the free Foobar), but by doing so, the user loses the integration provided by a unique manufacturer (Sony Media Go -> Sony Walkman).
I’m really just trying to help, as it gets harder to understand why Sony lacks on such elementary things audio-wise, when the same company has Walkmans supporting the highest definition audio formats available today.
I tend to relate Sony with high quality digital audio products, so it seems strange that this particular app is so rudimentary on these levels. The Walkman app is eye-candy, but it should also be “hear-candy”, which it isn’t.

You need to pass this on to the Sony delvelopers site as this is a user support forum

  • Suggestions for new apps-where?

I have had fun at the app store. Today I thought about an app I would like to see; and wonder where we can post suggestions for developers??

You can send feedback/feature requests directly to Apple at this link: Apple Product Feedback

  • What is proper way to report suggestions for app features And bugs to Apple

What is the proper way to report suggestions for app features to Apple? Or, do they even want suggestions?
And, how about reporting app bugs? Should I just assume the bug is already known, or is there a way for (quickly) reporting them?

I'm not sure about bugs in non-Apple apps, but bugs in Apple apps can be reported via this form:

  • Design Suggestions for Multiple DaqMX Task Streaming App?

I'm working on a LabVIEW application in which I'm streaming high-speed data to disk from multiple PXI devices simultaneously.  Each device has its own DaqMX task, and all tasks stream to the same file.  The PXI device configuration (which devices are in the chassis, which slots they're in, and which channels to read from each device) is determined at runtime.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a design model for this?  To make matters worse, I'd like to be able to specify a channel to monitor its data during the streaming.  I'm thinking the Producer-Consumer model is the basic approach, and I'm at the point where I have an array of DaqMX tasks, one for each device.  I could probably extend that array to be an array of clusters containing:
       1) DAQ Command (e.g. Initialize, Start, Stop, Acquire, etc)
       1) Task ID
       2) Control reference to 2-D array (where each DaqMX read can be stored)
       3) Array of channel names (to allow selection of channel to be monitored
This could be passed as notifier data, to a data collection subVI, but the part I'm struggling with is finding the best way to run X number of tasks in parallel, where X is not known until runtime.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for the input.  With regards to the file format, the decision has been made by my superiors not to use TDMS - unfortunate, but NI hasn't provided the information to write a MatLab file reader, which is a requirement.  So, I've created a custom file format tailored to the needs of my application, but generic enough to be used for other apps. With it, I've been able to stream 8 channels at 800KHz (4 channels each from 2 PXI-6120s) without breaking a sweat.  However, the performance varies greatly depending on which slots the cards are in (but that's a whole different discussion - see the PXI forum for that one).  Once NI solves that one, I'll feel a lot more comfortable.
I have already made reentrant subVIs that can perform a specific DAQ task.  The problem with a for loop is that the VI sits and wait for a start trigger, then acquires the streaming data.  I can't start the next VI because I'm in the first one.  I thought about creating a data collection VI, and this VI would start up to 6 other VIs in parallel, based on how many and which cards were present.  It's a bit messy, because each slot can contain one of two devices, so I'd need to check which type it was before calling it.  I'm thinking I'll have to create the task list and the references to the data in the main GUI loop, and then pass this using a notifier or queue to the data collection loop.

  • Suggestion for App Store when viewing from iphone

I hadn't checked the app store for about a week and when I looked last night... 844 games?! Thats awesome. BIG pain trying to look through all those games though.
Is there any way to suggest to Apple that they add some simple sorts under the "categories" section? It would be great to go to the category "games", for example, and then be able to sort by say: date added, avg rating, and price.
If you could set two sorts it would be ideal but anything is better than looking through 844 apps in what appears to be random order.
Seems like it would be such a simple thing for the mighty Apple programmers to do....

We are users here - I'd suggest making the suggestion to Apple:

  • Technology and training suggestions for data gathering app

Can anyone suggest some technologies and/or support to get us started on a mid-sized handheld effort?
Specifically, we're starting a project to build a handheld (WinCE-based) app which will allow users to fill out a short form and gather a GPS reading and perhaps a camera snapshot to accompany the form data. This data will later be imported into our J2EE app.
We have almost no handheld experience and don't know what technologies to evaluate, or what consulting expertise to set up to help start the team.
    Many thanks for your help!

    Hi Adam,
I'd suggest to implement it in a way that will be the fastest to deliver
working code, except the case when the main purpose of the project
is teaching you EJB, Weblogic and J2EE.
For this particular problem that could a session bean making
direct JDBC calls. It's just 5 lines of code...

I'm new to the WebLogic arena, and we're launching a new portal. We'vegot a portlet
that I want to query a SQL Server database for three records (specificallyonly one
column for the three records, that I want to concatenate). This data isupdated
approximately every four hours via an outside admin tool.
Looking for suggestions for the best way to implement this.
We don't need to constantly query this data, but it may also be overkillto persist
this data in a full entity EJB. I began to write a read-only entity EJBthat I figure
I could specify it's refresh interval in the deployment descriptor. Isthere a better
way? In a previous app, we were simply querying the database, storing astring (~1000
characters) in an application scope in memory, along with a date variable, and for
each user just checking the date variable. If the date was over fourhours ago,
we requeried the database with a component call (Microsoft COM). I'dprefer to reduce
even the RMI lookup for the bean if I can, but I don't think I grasp quiteenough
about the EJB pooling mechanism -- this might not be an issue.
Could I do this in a stateless session bean more efficiently?
    We're running WLS6.1sp2 in a dev environ with Portal4.0sp2. (But upgradingto sp3
    soon.)
Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!
