App Tabs Duplicated on Startup - SOLVED

I love the app tab feature and have about 5 of my most common sites pinned as App Tabs. However...every time I start FF4 it opens the App Tabs (as expected) and ALSO opens regular tabs for each of those 5 sites.
I've tried just opening one, unrelated, site and going in and setting the "Home Tabs" to "Use Current" but every time I restart it opens the app tabs AND six regular tabs (one for each app tab and one for the other site I wanted as a home page.
How I can I get FF4 to just opent the app tabs and one page?

I know, the desired functionality is - open the same app tabs every time. How?

  • App tabs duplicated on start up - how do I fix this?

when I startup firefox, my home page has my app tabs but then they are duplicated as normal tabs.

Try to delete them by tapping & holding until they wiggle, then hit the X in the corner. You should then reset your iPad (hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until you see the apple, then let go), and try re-downloading them, one at a time.

  • Can I put an app tab in tab group?

    Hello,
Just upgraded to FF4 and discovered app tabs and tab groups - both great features.
However, when I switch to the view of my tab groups, I don't see the app tabs shown anywhere. They aren't in the default tab group, nor in any of the tab groups I created.
If I right-click the app tab, there isn't an option to put it in a group, and if I right-click a tab in a group and make it an app tab, it doesn't show up in the group any more.
Any way around this? I like both features, but would like to group app tabs as well as non-app tabs.
    Thanks

OK, just solved my own problem! I was playing with the tab groups, and noticed some small icons on the right side of the group panel. I couldn't work out what they were, and so tried clicking one. Turns out that these are the app tabs! They appear in EVERY tab group, just not displayed the same as normal tabs.
Hope this helps someone else :-)

  • When I pin my Yahoo mail to an app tab, it does not open properly on next startup. Gmail works fine.

I really like the app tab feature, and am using it for those sites that I keep open when I am on line (my blogs, my emails, my websites, my calendar). My yahoo mail refuses to open from the app tab after closing the browser and opening it again. I keep myself logged in at yahoo, just as I do for my gmail account. GMail works perfectly every time, opening my inbox right away. Generally, I have to open Yahoo mail in a new tab, unpin the old one, try to re-pin the new one . . . ad infinitum . . . You get the picture? It might be a Yahoo issue, meaning I have to log in from yahoo home every time if I want it as an app tab.

  • How can I set app tabs to open to the default page on startup?

If I use an App Tab and click on a link from that tab, then exit and open Firefox, it opens up the website I was on when I closed Firefox the last time as the App Tab. For example, If I have Google as an app tab, make a search, click on a new website, and exit Firefox, the same website from before will load in my App tab instead of Google. When I open Firefox, I want my app tabs to open to their default pages, not the pages I was surfing from those tabs when I closed Firefox.

App Tabs are not protected against changing the URL by opening a link in that same tab and Firefox doesn't keep a record of the original URL.<br />
You can middle click a link to open the link in a new tab if you do not want the tab changing the URL.
You can lock the tab with the Tab Mix Plus extension.

  • FF 13 suddenly forgets app tabs and history on startup

Something that was working this morning suddenly stopped working, with no changes in between.
I'm using Pinned as App Tabs, and have FF start with Show my Windows and Tabs from Last Time.
I shut down FF, then restarted it, and now it's forgetting all App Tabs and Tabs from the session I just closed. I checked my settings and there's nothing clearing any history at all in there.
Is there a fix or workaround for this? Was there some FF update overnight that deletes all the history on shutdown?

App (pinned) tabs and Tab Groups (Panorama) are stored as part of the session data in the file sessionstore.js in the Firefox profile folder.
Make sure that you do not use "Clear Recent History" to clear the "Browsing History" when Firefox is closed because that prevails and prevents Firefox from opening tabs from the previous session.

    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Session_Restore
If you use cleanup software like CCleaner then check the settings for the Firefox application.
It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

  • On startup app tabs also appear as normal tabs, why?

I have Firefox 4.0, newly updated on a Macbook Pro running OS 10.6.7
I have 4 app tabs and 4 other tabs open as standard.
I have set home by going to preference and selecting use curent tab set for home.
When I start Firefox it opens the 4 app tabs as app tabs and then also opens them AGAIN as normal tabs, plus the four others I expect.
Have I misunderstood something or is this a bug? Is there a solution?

This can be a problem with the files [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] and sessionstore.bak in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]

  • I want to have tabs open as app tabs on startup

I have a couple of tabs that I always use, so I pin them as app tabs. The problem is that I want to save them as my home page, but as app tabs, not regular tabs. If I open the tabs I want for my home page and press "use current pages" as home page, they open as regular tabs. Is there any way to manually specify which tabs should be app tabs and which should be regular tabs in preferences?

Yeah, I noticed that the tabs are restored as app tabs, but doesn't that mean that there should be a way to have them as your home page as well? Showing your windows and tabs from last time isn't really the same thing. Should I file a feature request or something?

Running Firefox 4.0..1 on Windows 7. When Firefox is launched, the 3 App Tabs I have defined are opened just fine. They are also opened as regular tabs. Why the duplication? What have I done wrong?

  • How to restore Lost App Tabs and Tab Groups

I make a lot of use of App tabs and Tab Groups. Today at startup of FireFox it showed only 1 blank tab with the default FireFox startup page. As far as I know there wasn't anny update recently.
I have lost session restore before but then FireFox start page showed me the option te restore it, this isn't the case now. Also the restore session button in the menu is grayed out.
Is there anny way to restore my tabs?
    Thanks in advance.
I'm using FF 5 under Windows Vista.

As well as having had this problem a couple of times on different machines, both immediately after upgrades, I also use the synch capability so that tab groups from more than one machine can be accessed from any of the others - a really useful capability. It's really frustrating to have lost everything and have to try to recreate things from history. It occurs to me that the contents of my sets of groups are stored on a synch server somewhere so they ought to be recoverable from the hopefully, periodic automatic server backups - only problem is, how to access them? unlikely to be possible at this stage!
In this context, a useful enhancement would be a capability to make user-created named backups of all current groups of tabs which could later be restored at will; any upgrade process should also automatically create such a backup for the user so that the problem of lost groups of tabs would be solved. In addition it would give users additional flexibility to create groups of groups - accessed by the save/restore mechanism - say for development, personal or social or whatever.

  • Is there anyway to get an App Tab to stay when I close the program then reopen it?...they always disappear when I open a new window etc.

Is there anyway to get an App Tab to stay when I close the program then reopen it?...they always disappear when I open a new window etc.
And I thought the whole point of an App Tab was to always have those tabs there no matter what window is open all the time period.
It's a minor complaint but I would really appreciate the option to permanently have them there.

I thought that app tabs would be more persistent, like pinning programs to the taskbar in Windows, but this is not the case.
Instead, once you close a Firefox window, all its tabs and app tabs are lost.
Essentially, this means that the close button in the upper-left corner of a Firefox window is now a "kill all open tabs and loose all App Tabs without warning++ " button. That is not cool.
I realize that "Firefox > Quit Firefox" behaves as intended, but many people use the more obvious red close button instead of the menu to close windows on a Mac. And it is easy to forget that the red button is now also an app-tab-death button. I've lost my app tabs many times to this issue. It is an unforgiving user interface decision which hampers the usability of app tabs. Why should I go through the extra clicks of setting up app tabs if I can loose them so easily?
Ideally, App Tabs could be saved separately from the currently open windows (perhaps create an option to save then to a special Tab Group that opens on startup?). App tabs would be exceedingly useful to me if they weren't so easy to loose.
On that note, saving Tab Groups would also be a useful functionality.
++ You will get a "closing multiple tabs" warning if you have only one window open, and that one window has multiple non-app tabs open, and you have enabled the warning in Preferences. But this too unreliable to help prevent the loss of app tabs.

  • I love using firefox app tabs, but they always disappear when I restart firefox. Is there any way to get chosen app tabs to load when firefox restarts?

Firefox 5 has a great new feature called app tabs, but it looks like I'm stuck resetting them every time I quit firefox or restart my computer. It seems to me the whole point of "pinned" app tabs is that they're the sites you read most frequently, and therefore it would be useful if they loaded automatically when firefox was started. Is there a way to do this? Do I have firefox on the wrong settings? Or am I stuck re-creating my app tabs every time I restart my computer / firefox??

Thanks for the reply, it seems to have solved my issue.
My tabs are normal and unpinned, I just have Firefox set to open all my current tabs. Safe Mode didn't seem to have this issue, so I disabled Classic Theme Restorer. Several restarts didn't have problems, so I enabled it again and now this isn't happening anymore. Hopefully it stays gone for good and didn't just stop momentarily.
Edit. So as soon as I posted this, it started happening again. More testing definitely points to Classic Theme Restorer as the cause, so I'll have to investigate solutions on that end.

  • Is there a way to keep my app tabs set up if I clear my browsing history between sessions? (v. 4.0 on Mac OS 10.6.6)

Just downloaded version 4.0 yesterday, running on Mac OS 10.6.6. When I set up a few app tabs, they worked fine during the session but were gone when I restarted Firefox.
I usually have my preferences set to clear my browsing history, download history, forms, cache, active logins, and most cookies when I close Firefox. I changed them to clear everything else as usual but to remember my browsing history, and this seems to solve the problem - my app tabs reappeared when I restarted FF. Is there a setting I'm missing that would let me clear my history but maintain the app tabs across sessions?

Based on everything you have told us, Without a doubt, you need a lot more RAM installed in your iMac.
OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard can, at times, use up the full 4 GBs of RAM, for. itself, alone.
Your model iMac can take, a total of 16 GBs of RAM.
My advice is to install the max. 16 GBs of RAM.
Correct and reliable Mac RAM can be purchased from online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com).
RAM is user installable and very easy to do for beginning or novice computer users or novice computer upgraders.
