App that monitors web traffic

I have an g3 powerbook that I use as a web server. I am looking for an web site stats app that monitors all port hits, ip traffic in & out of the machine & hosted web sites, so i can see who consults the websites I am hosting. I am not running OS X server as I don't really need it & it is just too complicated. Any ideas?

This might provide some of what you want at least...

  • Can you create a Adobe DPS app that use Web Services

I'm looking to create a DPS app that uses web services to pass data to and from a web server when the user has an internet connection, but when the user is offline stores data locally until an internet connection is established and then passes the locally stored data to the web server. Is this possible with DPS/

It's challenging but it's possible. Hint: local storage.

  • App that monitores user's all day activities

I am looking for an app that monitores user's all day activities. That means one that makes it possible to analyse user's activities during the day with his/her mobile like using the camera, mp3 player, calls, sms, games, etc. Any recommendations?

Thanks for your fast answer! So there is not even something similar to the android's"phone beagle" app?!
No. As provided, on a "stock" iPhone, all apps are "sandboxed", thus they don't have the access necessary to provide this type of data. If you want to get the ability to do what you want, you have no choice but to jailbreak. However, doing that introduces problems of its own...one of them being the real possibility of never being able to install a stock firmware on the phone, not to mention the voiding of all warranty & support from Apple.

  • SA540 - Monitor Web Traffic (How to)?

Just as the title reads, I'm looking for a way to monitor what traffic is going through my SA540.  Looking for what websites are being accessed.
Not sure how to do this.  Can anyone assist?
    Thanks in advance!

I looked into OPENDNS several months ago and seems like it was kinda expensive for commercial usage.  It wasn't an option.
I was looking at the Status/Reports section of my 540 and it sounds like it gives the top 10 websites visited.  Does this sound correct?
Of course Content Filtering must be turned on.  I assume turning on Content Filtering does nothing until allowed or blocked URL data is present?

  • Apps that use web:  Is there a cache?

In an app like Facebook where links go to web pages in its News Feed where does it store these pages? Is it using Safari? How do you clear the cache, cookies and history if it does not use Safari? Thanks!

iOS4 is out but is there any information on this?
When I'm using the Facebook app, for example, and click on a link, I can sometimes clearly see that a webpage is in the News Feed window. So is it using the Safari cache?
Personally, even if it's a minor nitpick to some, I like to know how much of my space I'm using. Even if it's a small amount, it will pile up over time if I don't delete unnecessary used space. That's why I'm obsessive to a point about deleting my cache, history, cookies, etc. even on my computer. Hence my original question.
Would this be a question to each app developer? Would we even get an answer since there are so many apps?

  • Monitoring Web traffic.

    Hi there.
I've been asked by a client to generate a report of website access from with in there office. I thought of using the DNS log to filter out the access, but it does not seem to log the information I need.
Does any know of any software I can run my server that will log the internet traffic of users? Currently all the users use the server for dns so I guess that should help in some way.

You can turn on DNS query logging, but that probably won't help much.
For one, a DNS lookup doesn't necessarily indicate a web site access. More importantly DNS records are cached, so once the client has looked up a site once, they will continue to use that cached reply for hours (or even days), so your DNS logs won't reflect those accesses.
The best way of doing this is to implement a proxy server. Configure the clients to talk through the proxy server and use the proxy server logs to track access.
There are a number of proxy servers that can do this. Apache has one built-in, but a better option for this kind of setup would be Squid.

  • Monitor Web Traffic

I have deployed Leopard Server running on an older PowerMac G5 for use as an Internet Gateway in an office of about 40 people. The owner of that company is now saying that she suspects some employees of wasting time online instead of getting work done. Is there anyway to configure Leopard Server to record sites visited by client systems?
The server is running server 10.5.6 and is offering the following services:
    DHCP
    DNS
    NAT
    Firewall

You're looking for grains of sand in mountains of data. And you don't know what the particular grains you're looking for look like, and the identities of the grains shift near-continuously. Even with enterprise-scale storage pools and enterprise-scale processing and a team that tracks the sites, you'll still miss piles of interesting and relevant access details with tcpdump or such. (With the increasing use of fast-flux DNS and of breached hosts, DNS-based tracking is somewhere between difficult and futile; the malware sites adapt faster than the defenses can react and register.)
DNS gets you domain names, which may or may not be interesting. It's easy enough to mask domains, too. And you can also snag activity off the local DNS server, if you do decide to go that way.
As for fully-packaged options, Barracuda Networks, F5, Foundry, and a number of other vendors offer gateways that deal with spam, antivirus and web access monitoring and web content. There are various names and trade names for these boxes, including Unified Threat Management. Toss one of these boxes at the problem as a budgetary test, if nothing else. As a test of how serious this request is.
This reply very deliberately ignores the organizational implications and the inherent politics of the task you've been given here, as well.

  • App for monitoring traffic volume

Can someone recommend a good and simple app to monitor internet traffic volume? Unfortunately my router does not offer such an option. I'm not interested in any kind of analysis function, I just want to know at the end of the week/month how much traffic I generated with regular surfing, IPTV, Netflix etc..
    Cheers

  • Have Web App/Transaction monitoring alert only when majority of watcher nodes are in error?

We do a lot of web app/transaction monitoring and we have watcher nodes distributed globally. When we have connectivity issues at a site hosting a watcher node, the web monitors that target the watcher node in that site all alert even though all the other
    watcher nodes are fine.
We'd like to reduce the noise from our web monitoring by having alerts fire only when a majority, or some other defined ratio, of watcher nodes are in an error condition. Is this possible, and if so, how?
For reference, we're running 2012 R2 and monitor hundreds of URLs. This list of URLs and watcher nodes is fairly dynamic, so we'd prefer to find a solution that doesn't require manual development (e.g. creating distributed apps), however if that's the only
path then it would also be good to know.

First, disable the alerts from the web application that you have created.
Next, create a new distributed application.  Use the 'Blank (Advanced)' template.  When it comes to choosing the management pack, set it to be the same as the one used for the web monitor.
Once the distributed application designer has loaded, client the 'Add Component' button.
Give it a name - Something like 'Appname web monitor component group'
Choose the 'objects of the following type(s)' radio button.  Navigate the tree:
Entity -> Logical Entity -> Perspective -> Web Application Perspective -> YOURWEBMONITOR
Tick the box next to the name of your web monitor.
Now, on the left, in the Objects bar, you should see the watcher nodes for your web application.  Add ALL the watcher nodes into the component group by dragging them in.
    Now save your distributed application.
Click the title of the component group that you have just created, down the bottom right of the window there will be a link called 'Configure Health Rollup'.  Click that.
In the override properties window, Tick the box next to the 'Rollup Algorithm' and change the Override Value to Worst state of a percentage of members in good health state' and override 'percentage' value into your expected value.
OK the changes and then save the distributed application once again.
Before you exit the designer, note the name of the component group that you created.
Finally, we have to enable alerting for that component group.  To do this, exit the designer and you should be back in the Authoring pane of the console.
Go to "Management Pack Objects\Monitors" in the console.  Click on the Scope toolbar button to  scope the view -
if a scope was previously active, this will disable the scoped view, so click the button again.  You should be presented with a "Scope Management Pack Objects Window"
Click the "Clear All" button at the bottom of that window, then type in the
name of the component group that you noted down earlier into the search box.  A single line should be displayed in the search results.  Tick the box and click OK.
There should now be a yellow bar saying that the view has been scoped to your web application component group.  Underneath will be a tree view of the monitors in your web applicaion.
Expand the tree view until you find a monitor called "Component Group Health Roll-up for type..."
Open the properties of that item, go to the alerting tab and
enable the "generate alerts for this monitor" checkbox.
You can then fill in the alert name and description as well as other things like severity and whether or not the alert will close when the monitor is healthy.

Yes, it will do no harm, but it is meant for trouble shooting and you should not have to use it all the time.

netdestroy, that's a great question. I apologize that currently, we don't support any applications that allow this capability.

  • Can I cluster a web app that uses Spring and iBATIS?

I have a web app that uses Spring and iBATIS. It runs great on a single server. I am now trying to get it to run in a cluster. I went through the code and made all the classes serializable. Also, I added the distributable tag to the web.xml. I then deployed it to two clustered app servers.
When I logon and use the web app, everything goes well. Then, as a test, I determine which app server is being used and stop the web app on it. As I try to continue my session, the following exceptions are generated from the other node:
    java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: No SqlMapClient specified.
The exception is being thrown from the Spring code. Is there something else I need to do to get Spring and iBatis to work in a clustered environment.
Also, I see a lot of references to Terracotta as a clustering solution. Will Terracotta work with Oracle App Server?

    Thanks for the response.
I think my session information is being shared. I've configured the default application in my OC4J configured for peer-to-peer clustering. Before I did this, if I shut down the instance I was using, it would fail-over to the other application server but my session would be gone and I would be forced to logon again. But once I was logged on, everything ran smoothly.

  • I'm trying to find a app that will download video off the web like realplayer or orbit

Does anyone know if its a App that will download video's off the web like realplayer or Orbit?

Never heard of Orbit.  As far as I know RealPlayer streams but doesn't download video (and audio).  So are you looking for another streaming app or one that actually downloads the video file?  And what kind of video?  For example, you can download flash video from sites like youtube with many flash video downloads.  There are many youtube flash downloaders.  Just search macupdate.com for them.  FWIW, a somewhat more general flash downloader is Jaksta.  Use the macupdate link I provide to Jaksta and look at near the bottom of the page for related apps.
