App updates are frozen what do I do?

I have app on my ipad 2 that need to update and are frozen. What do I do?

How many apps are trying to update - only one will download at a time. Have you tried tapping them to see if that gets  them to resume loading ? You could also try a reset and see if they resume loading after the iPad has restarted : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

After updating an app and trying to install another, they are both "frozen" with a blank status bar.  I cannot unintall them either so they are just sitting there in limbo.  Thanks for any help.

In this order .... Try these suggestions.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign in and then try to update again. Tap one waiting icon only if necessary to start the download stream.

One option is to update them in iTunes, then sync your device to transfer the updated apps.

  • HT204266 App update is frozen.

App update is frozen.  Icon is greyed out and "waiting...."

I have got the same problem with my Facebook icon on iPad. I think something went wrong when I tried to do an update the last time. The icon (as described above) has been faded out for some days and is showing the word "waiting". I have tired everything I can think of (trying to delete the icon (will not work as, while the icon 'shakes', no "x" appears to left for it to be deleted). Any help welcome.

  • App Updates are Stuck Waiting

All of my app updates are in waiting mode with no progress in days.  I touch one (Keynote) and the phone shows "Waiting..." and then the message comes up "Unable to Download Application."  "Keynote" could not be downloaded at this time.
    1) I am on WiFi, browsing works fine, have confirmed connected.
    2) Does the same thing on all apps.
    3) I hit update all over a week ago, and every app is not not accessible because it thinks it is being updated, even though stuck
    4) Power Off/On many times
    5) Hard Reset (lock button + home button until Apple logo)
I had this problem on my iPad 2 recently as well.  I reset:
    1) Reset All Settings -- did not fix
    2) Erase All Content and Settings -- this did fix it.
The problem is that "Erase All Content and Settings" forces me to re-download all my apps (200 or so), and none of my folders are preserved.  I have to then spend hours re-building all my folders, or have my apps randomly on 7 or 8 screens.  I would really prefer a solution where I do not have to go to this length to get it fixed.
    Any better ideas?

    Any other ideas?
If I backup my phone, then "Erase All Content and Settings," will a retored backup put all of my apps back into their folders?

  • Trying to update The Age and also eBay (both Australian app) using my Australian iTunes ID, and it says I must switch to the US store? All other app updates are fine??? Help!!

As above, I have been trying to update The Age newspaper app which I have been using for ages- it's an Australian app and I have an Australian iTunes ID. It's wont let me update and says my account is invalid and I must switch to the US store? This also happens when trying to update my eBay app?? All my other app updates are fine?? Why is it ding this and how do I get around it?? I don't want a US iTunes account and shouldn't have to get one just to update this app???
    Thanks
    Lucy

    Hi, Lucy.
This is a tricky one and I could see where it could be an issue as this App is also available in the US store.  I would recommend making sure it is in your purchases via the article below on your computer.  If so, try deleting the application from your iPhone or iPad and download it again free of charge via the purchased section in the App Store.  Also, see if you can update the application on your computer and sync it over.

  • Errors With App Updates: Heres's what the "Apple Guy" said

Ever since the app store opened and updates to applications became available I have never been able to get an update without jumping through hoops. Those hoops would be deleting the application from iTunes and the iPhone as well as deleting any files from the application from my computer. Then after all this I have to re-download the application from iTunes.
I realize these apps don't have to be paid for again, but I find it very frustrating to have to go through this process just to get an update. My biggest issue is that I lose any and all data stored in that application because I had to delete it.
After searching these forums and seeing multiple people with the same problem, and no solution, I figured I'd go to the source and just call Apple support for iPhone and here's what they said in a nutshell.
Apple is totally aware that you can't get any updates without deleting the application. The guy was actually surprised when I told him that I have several updates per week. He said her personally only has 2 or 3 apps on his phone and he's never seen an update and thought maybe there was something wrong with my phone that I have so many updates. I told him I have about 30 apps and several of them have had several updates. This isn't a phone issue, it's an issue with iTunes being unable to load the new application without errors.
The gist of it is that there is NO way to fix this at this time. Apple fully expects us to delete the entire application every time there's an update and they don't really care that we're losing all our data. I don't think Apple had any idea that there would be as many updates as there are and so were completely unprepared. He actually told me that they are just now "getting back on our feet" after the big crash on the 11th when the 3G came out and they're doing the best they can. I'm sure this is true, but updates to applications were expected so why was this not forseen?
Disappointing!! Has anyone had any luck with updating applications without deleting everything first??? If so, how did you do it. I have tried since the middle of July with total failure. The Apple support guy was NO help so I'm turning to you guys!

Aha - interesting. Up until a few days ago, I was 'happily' updating apps virtually every day (bar the unhappiness caused by how long it took and the fact it moved the app to a different page from where I'd carefully moved it previously). I had a crash during an app update at the end of last week, after which I had to do a recovery restore. Since then... I'm seeing no updates available on the phone, even when I know they're in the store.
As of today I'd worked that could be because the App Store on the phone doesn't seem to know I've got most of my software installed, even though I clearly have (it marks only a few apps as 'Installed' on their page, whereas I've probably got 20-30). And now, checking iTunes, it's found updates for some apps, but not others. Who knows whether they'll be updated at the next sync...
Bottom line seems to be that as of 2.0.2, there are some serious issues with this aspect of the iPhone experience... along with endless backups (which to me seemed associated partly with the most recent iTunes update)... I really hope that the next update straightens things out!

  • Is there any rhyme or reason to order in which app updates are displayed?

I posted this on the iPhone forum a while ago, with no useful response. I'm asking again here, because it is equally applicable to iPad.
Is it completely random, or is there an order I am unaware of? I would expect to see app updates displayed by date, i.e. most current updates shown a top of list, but I can find no such pattern or any other hierarchy. Thanks.

I don't know if this response is useful or if it is the answer that you are seeking, but the updates are supplied by the developers so whenever an update is available, it appears on your iPad in the app store icon. These are not controlled by Apple so as they become available, the arrow icon shows up and you can update. It's a random happenstance based on what the different developers are releasing from what I can determine.
If I am wrong, I am confident that my information will be corrected by someone.

  • TS1702 App updates are stalled on several apps on my iPhone 4.  Any suggestions on how to get these updates installed?

Updates are "waiting" on several apps on my iPhone... They seem stalled.   I cannot get them to install.   Any suggestions?

Try tapping the app itself, that worked on mine. Also if it doesnt, you can delete the app and reinstall it.

  • Apps updates are not downloading in iOS7

I downloaded iOS7 on my iPhone 5 (Verizon) 32GB. I still have 14GB of free storage space.
Few days ago I clicked in the app store and noticed 17 updates.
I clicked on "Update all" and nothing was happening. I then clicked on each "update" button next to the apps and nothing happened.
I have the blue circle that is rotating. It stops after a little while without updating the apps.
The crazy thing I can install without problem new apps. The problems is related to existing one.
I tried to find individual updates under purchased apps (remember the apps updates issues couple of month ago). Same issue.
I click on resetting the networks, same issue.
I tried to uninstall the app then reinstall it, same issue.

    Hello cdcor,
It sounds like you are unable to update or download apps. They appear to get stuck or otherwise become unresponsive. I have a few recommendations to try here. First, close all the open apps on the device:
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that, sign out of your iTunes account in Settings > iTunes and App stores, and restart the phone and re test the issue:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If the issue persists, I would next backup your device to iTunes, and restore it:

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,

  • Trying to update apps - Updates are 'stuck'

So... I started some app updates on my iPad.  Entered my password as requested.  The black bars over the app icons show up by downloading never starts.  I have tried waiting (a long time).  I have tried rebooting the iPad (both a 'hard' reboot and just powering off/on).  I have logged out of the app store and logged back in... Nothing works... the black bars stay and the apps wont download/update.
    Help !

If there are multiple apps trying to download at once, only one can download at a time and the rest say "Waiting" until it is then their turn. Try this. Double tap the icon of the Waiting app, and it should resume the download.
    If that doesn't work:
    •  Log out of your iTunes store account.  Go to Settings > Store > Sign Out Then press the Home button.
    • Then press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously and don't release them when it brings up the Turn Off screen; keep holding them until the Apple logo appears.
    • After restart, the Waiting should be gone.
     Cheers, Tom
