App-v 4.6: new version of package?

Hi,
I have this App-v 4.6 package I need to change/upgrade. I can see in the app-v management server there are already some versions (1.1, 1.2 and now I need to make 1.3). Not sure howto though.
The package is on a dfs-share \\ourcompany\share\.
What I did before = upgrade package and save it to the location on dfs but then I'm lost, how can I add a new version?
I'm looking for a screenshotted step by step guide.
Pls advise.

Hi,
The new .sft file gets only updated on the client when the package is not in use at all. In a TS/RDS environment this means that *no* user may use any application of that to-update package.
As soon as 3.3 has finished any the package is not in use on a client for a moment, the next user who launches the application will initiate downloading/streaming the new .sft to that RDS/TS server.
@3.4 I admit that overwriting the 'other' files is a downside, but MS hasn't implemented any versioning feature for these files. As a good practice you should have a static package repository somewhere that stores each version ov every package - just as
an archive.
Why should you update the OSDs and alike?
In fact technically this might not be necessary.
When an App-V package should get added to a client (like a newly built RDS server), the App-V client will connect to the ManSrv, retreive the AppList for a user and download and parse the OSDs. In there it reads 'Use sft_v3'. Then the client requests 'sft_v3'
from the ManServer, but that says: Hold on, my friend, I do have a newer version, sft_v5, for you'. Then the client downloads v5.  This justs takes some time, but won't hurt.
Things get worse when you (or somebody else) figures out that you have already 5 of those 'megapack_X.sft' files in your content share. So you say 'C'mon, we don't need 1..4 any more, my users are working with v5 for a while now) - and you do that maybe
for several packages.
After a while you decide to built a new App-V infra (new sub, lab,. whatever) and want to copy/import your exisiting packages to that new infrastructure. So guess what's happening: You select to import a new package into the console, it's asking you for
the .sprj that you specify. Then the console parses the OSDs, but they haven't been updated (you wanted to skip 3.4.) - they still point to v1 of the SFT, that isn't there anymore. To bad, right?
Same would happen if you bring back such a package to the sequencer - the
So, 3.4 is basically for consitency. There are methods to fix inconsitency, but you should avoid them.

Problem now resolved as I upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.  Seems App Store doesn't like anything previous to 10.6.

  • Keep changes from abs for new versions of packages?

I use the arch build system (abs) to enable netbeans support in vim by editing the PKGBUILD. I currently have to do this every time I do a full system upgrade through pacman. Is there any way I can have my PKGBUILD prioritzed unless there's a new version? Or maybe have it enable the feature that I want in every update?

I simply keep PKGBUILDs that I customize in a separate directory and when an updated version of app x arrives, I simply rebuild it. Other than that, you can rename your vim's package so that it doesn't interfere with the version from the official repository and append lines "provides=" / "conflicts=" so the system understands its new identity You can also use customizepkg.

  • Why do I have to go to app store to open new version of Numbers on my computer?

Why can I only open the new version of numbers through the app store?

    Hi Arnie.carol,
If I am understanding you correctly, it sounds like you may be trying to open the new version of Numbers, which is installed on your computer, but when you attempt to open it you only see the old version opening. If this is the case, it can be explained by the information in the following article about updating iWork:
About the new iWork for Mac: Features and compatibility - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT6049
In the meanwhile, you can continue to use these features by accessing the previous versions of the iWork applications which remain installed on your Mac. The previous versions can be found in Applications > iWork ’09.
You can double check this by utilizing a right-click on the Numbers icon in your dock, and choosing “Show in Finder,” which should take you to the application:
OS X Mavericks: Shortcuts for the Dock
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13718
See an item in the Finder
Command (⌘)-click the item’s icon, or Control-click the icon, then choose Options > Show in Finder.
From there, you can check the version number to see if it matches the updated version number in the App Store. Next, if you wish to always open the new version of Numbers by clicking on the icon in the Dock, open the application from the App Store as you have been doing, then right-click on the active Numbers application (the one that will have a light below it), and choose to add the application to the Dock by choosing “Keep in Dock”:
Add an open app to the Dock
Control-click the app’s icon, then choose Options > Keep in Dock.
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!
    Cheers,

  • Apps say they need newer version....

    Hi,
Real Newbie here ... bought my iphone 3G yesterday and all my app downloads keep saying they can't sync because I need a newer version.. help? please!!!

I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1.
    Identifying iPod models
    iPod touch (3rd generation)
iPod touch (3rd generation) features a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch display and 32 GB or 64 GB flash drive. You can browse the web with Safari and watch YouTube videos with Wi-Fi. You can also search, preview, and buy songs from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on iPod touch.
The iPod touch (3rd generation) can be distinguished from iPod touch (2nd generation) by looking at the back of the device. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. iPod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318.

  • Updating apps that require a newer version of IOS

I've decided to hold of on updating my iPad until the WiFi/4.2.1 issues are worked out. Since then I've ran into an issue with two apps that required 4.2 or higher. No big deal there. They download then don't install, and when I connect to iTunes, it says my IOS needs to be updated for the app.
My question is when you go into the update page of the App Store on the iPad, does it only show updates in which you are able to install the update on your running version of IOS? I was hoping it would allow me to "click" the app that it says there is an update for, but that doesn't work. So far I've searched for the app again to check it's requirements. Works but time-consuming.
Basically, I don't want to update something then it go "this version requires a newer IOS." and then it just leave me without my app. I'm not sure if that's how it would behave, but I don't want something to happen with one of the apps I use regularly.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Here's the thing... I work in IT. There's a reason why a good admin doesn't turn on "Automatic Updates" because sometimes updates don't work. Perhaps the issues with WiFi are only a batch of iPads, perhaps it's only with certain routers, or perhaps it's trolls. I don't know... but until I'm satisfied with the results people are getting with the update OR I have no choice, I'm not updating. There's no dishonor in waiting for a patch if it is not critical and you can get by without it for the time being. Right now, there's too much uncertainty for me to make my iPad an expensive way to play Angry Birds. If I can't connect to the Internet with it, it's not very useful to me.
If and when an app needs an update that doesn't work with 3.2.2, it just won't get updated. If I get to that point where I have to update, I'll cross my fingers and go for it.
That said, if someone has an answer to my question about the apps and their behavior in the Update portion of the App Store, that would be great.

  • I have been trying to upgrade my iPad 2, v4.3.5 since the 5.0 versions were released.  I have spend way too much time trying to upgrade so I can enjoy apps which require the newer version.  I have read so many comments about others having the same problem

Every time I start the download process in iTunes, it stalls and nothing happens.  I've tried restoring, and I've followed and tried all of Apple's instructions and directions but it still doesn't work.  I do not see this specific problem addressed by Apple anywhere.  After reading the posts in this community, I am sure that the problem does not lie within only my iPad.  If that is the case, why is there no answer on how to fix this problem.  I am at my wit's end and would appreciate any ideas...although I've tried fooling with DNS numbers, fooling with the wifi, turning it off and on, creating a new iTunes account and downloading from that account.  I've read about jailbreak software but my version isn't covered yet.  HELP!!!

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

  • How can I reinstall the iphoto app without buying the new version?

I accidently deleted my iphoto app on my mac mini a while ago.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If your Mac came with discs or you installed iPhoto from the iLife DVD, insert the Mac OS X Install Disc 2 or Applications DVD and install iPhoto performing a custom install. Then, open  > Software Update, and install the latest iPhoto version. If you haven't got the discs that came with your Mac mini, call Apple to get replacement DVDs > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 The other option is to buy the most recent iLife version.
If your Mac didn't come with discs or you purchased iPhoto in the App Store, open the App Store, go to Purchases and download iPhoto. In both cases, iPhoto can be installed free of charge

  • Does the new version of Mail.app for Leopard have this DELAY feature?

Can you delay sending an email until XXXX date and XXXX time, like you can in Eudora?
I know mail.app currently has some scripts that allow for this functionality, but I'd really like to see it built right into mail.app. Can the new version of mail.app for Leopard do this?
    Thanks.

    Not to my knowledge.

  • Numbers -installed new version, now can't open files saved in new version - ???

I said yes to upgrading a file to newer version, and now it says I need newer version to open that file. When I go to apps, it says the new version has already been installed. Any suggestions?

    Hi cretzlaff,
If you check About Numbers (first items in the Numbers menu) when it fails to open a documents, I suspect you will find that it is Numbers 2.3 that is attempting to open the file.
The instaler for the new version creates a new folder, names it iWork 09, places it in the Applications folder, and moves the existing iWork '09 applications into that folder. It does NOT delete them from your machine (and you should consider carefully before taking that step yourself).
The new versions are then installed directly into the Applications Folder.
    Suggested actions:
In Finder, open the Applications folder, locate Numbers.
Select the icon for Numbers and drag it to the Dock to install an alias to the new version there.
Note the differences between the icons for Numbers '09 and the new Numbers (one more bar, and different colours).
(Repeat with Pages and Keynote, it you have also installed the new versions of those.)
The new version of Numbers has several significant improvements, particularly in regard to compatibility with Numbers for iOS and Numbers for iCloud, but it has also lost several useful features that were present in the earlier version.
You may want to keep both available, at least for now, and use whichever version has the features you need for a particular job.
You can specify which version is to open a document by:
right-clicking on its icon then choosing Open with > and the application you want to use
dragging the document's icon to the Docked icon of the Numbers version you want to use and dropping it there.
launching the application version and opening the document from the File > Open menu path
Note that once opened by and saved from Numbers 3, a document cannot be opened by Numbers '09 unless it is exported from Numbers 3 in Numbers '09 format.

  • Sync all app from iphone to new pc

    hey
I'v lost all my information on my old pc and now I've bought new pc and installed itunes on it.
now I want to sync all my app to itunes and get full backup from my iphone to pc but just 49 apps out of 313 apps can be transfered.
what should I do to transfer all 313 apps of my iphone to my new pc.
by the way I bought 40% of these apps and I have new version of itunes on my pc
    please help meeee

You need to copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer files/docs/pics/music/etc.  Use this to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup copy (not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod: File>Transfer Purchases
The music sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The only exception is itunes purchases.

  • Before upgrading my system from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion I had taken a backup of iPhoto in my external drive. But now when I try to open that package, I'm directed to app store to buy new iPhoto. How can I retrieve my photos without buying iPhoto?

Before upgrading my system from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion I had taken a backup of iPhoto library in my external drive. But now when I try to open that package, I'm directed to app store to buy new iPhoto. Why would apple install iPhoto by default with Snow Leapord and make us import all our photos in it at the first place, and now ask for money if we want to retrieve our photos back on mountain lion? What if they make contacts a paid app with the next OS upgrade, and then bully us to pay money if we want our contacts? This is something very dissappointing on Apple's part. I need answers here.

I fail to remember if the installer gave me an option to keep my applications.
The Mountain Lion installer will not delete applications. It will only mark applications, that are not compatible with your current system with a "forbidden" sign in the icon. And you cannot launch them.
Does your iPhoto icon in the Applications folder look like this?
Then your iPhoto version is incompatible and cannot run with Mt. Lion. If it is iPhoto '11, with a versionnumber starting with 9.x.x., you can upgrade it by downloading a newer version from the Apple downloads site  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1650.
But if you have 8.x.x, you need to buy an upgrade.
