APP-V 5.0 SP2 Hotfix 4 - Java plugin the non run virtual approach

Morning All
I am currently investigating an issue with APP-V 5.0 SP2 and our internet explorer plugins, until recently we were running our internet explorer plugins via the run virtual key on our windows 7 X64 environment, however when running the run virtual we
did notice a side effect of this when trying to open office documents, where a document would take anywhere between 60-300 seconds to open with the run virtual key in place, once removed documents would open between 1-5 seconds.
Current Environment
Windows 7 X64
APP-V 5.0 SP2 Hotfix 5
Microsoft Office 2003 Standard and Professional: APP-V
Microsoft Office 2007 Standard and Professional: APP-V

Hello,
Old issue with the App-V 4.6 client is described here;
http://blogs.technet.com/b/appv/archive/2010/09/27/troubleshooting-slow-sharepoint-integration-with-virtualized-microsoft-office-2010-in-app-v.aspx
Perhaps some of that knowledge can be applied ?

    Hi,
We have installed App-v 5.0 SP2 + hotfix 5 (via SCCM 2012 R2 CU1) on some Windows 7 clients. That worked fine but no app-v applications go through.

Please advise on this specific error. Should we look for corruption in app-v client, problem in sccm client ...?

Update: clients which don't have problems are client which had hotfix 4 THEN hotfix 5 installed. Should we install it that order? Client WITH problems have App-v 5.0 SP2 then hotfix 5 directly.
Update2: I installed the app-v client via setup.exe, the hotfix 4 also via setup.exe but since it installed all language packs, I decided to extract hotfix 5 and use the msp.
Could that be cause of the issue? I could use the exe of hotfix 5 but then I need to be sure how NOT to install all the language packs.

I think we found a solution ourselves.
    My update2 (question) explains it:

We installed App-v 5.0 SP2 via exe then installed hotfix via msp (extracted msp), this doesn't seem to work (though installation was succesfull). When we deploy the hotfix via the exe it works correctly.
    Not sure why though.

  • I have two personal e-mail accounts and a general account that I have synced to my Mail app, but I keep getting emails sent to the non-personal e-mail because they're on the same server. How can I change that?

I have two personal e-mail accounts and a general account that I have synced to my Mail app, but I keep getting emails sent to the non-personal e-mail because they're on the same server. How can I change that?

The only ways I know of for email to get sent to an account are:
    1. It was addressed to that account. Someone used that email address to send you the email.
    2. It was forwarded to that account by the account to which it had been addressed. I am not aware of Mail having this feature but it is often a feature provided by your ISP that you can turn on by logging into your account via the Internet and setting it up.  I assume you have not done this, though.
With several email addresses in the same Mail client, you have to be careful which one you are sending from. If you send from the wrong address, any replies will come back to that same address. I make this mistake all too often.

  • Crystal Reports Runtime 13 not found in sequence on App-V 5.0 SP2 Hotfix 5 client

My application uses a VFS installation of Crystal Reports Runtime 13. (i.e., the path to CR13 isn't specified as the Primary directory during sequencing, as my app uses that particular path)
On a test VM with an old App-V client (5.0.285.0) the application launches and can locate CR components successfully.
However, when we upgrade to the latest App-V client (SP2 HF5) the application fails to find CR.
The original application was sequenced with App-V 5.0 RTM (5.0.285.0). I've re-sequenced the app with the latest sequencer (SP2 HF4) but the error persists.
There is literally nothing in the Event Log and the app doesn't appear to report the error to Windows (it pops up a UI message saying CR 13 can't be located).
Procmon doesn't show anything meaningful, although I could have missed something whilst trawling through 16,000 lines of processes.
I enabled all App-V logs and nothing relating to an error can be found there.
I tried disabling DEP and following other advice in this earlier thread:
    virtualizing-business-objects-crystal-reports-pro-110
OS: Windows 7 SP1, patched up to date.
    App-V client: 5.0.3404 (SP2 Hotfix 5)
Anyone seen an issue like this?
I'm about to open a case with Microsoft Support, just thought I'd ask here first.
    Regards.

    Hi.
We raised a support ticket with Microsoft and with their help, found that the path length to the VFS installation of Crystal Reports was the issue.
I created an MST (btw, Crystal Reports MSI has numerous directory and registry entries that don't use best practice, so this took a while..) to reduce the path lengths.
As to why the RTM version of the client works (from our Microsoft support engineer):
"Regarding the “why”, between RTM and the next versions, lots of issues were corrected.
In this particular situation, the issue was related with the fact that the application stopped extending the buffer. Probably what happened was that a COM or Object Bug was corrected between RTM and SP2 and this had a negative effect on the application. What
this means is that, in fact, the application was not supposed to work in RTM as well, due to buffer being extended."
So in summary, if you have an application with a particularly long path structure, you may need to re-sequence for the SP2 version of the client.

  • Java plugin the idiots guide to installing ?

For the love of ... how do you import these java plugin in's. Every time i get a software update i need to re~download the java plugin to play Supremacy 1914. Can some one provide an idiots step by step guide to installing this software. Many thanks.

You don't say what operating system version you are on and the process may differ depending on this, however for Lion and Mountain Lion the following applies.
The latest Java update from Apple issued this week removes the Java Preferences utility from the Utility folder and also removes Java Applet support from all web-browsers.
To reinstate Java Applet support you need to go to http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp
Then click on the 'Test the currently installed version of Java' link
Then you should see a message saying Missing Plugin, click on this
You will now get a dialog box, click on the More info button
This will take you to a download webpage for the latest Mac Java software
Click the button to download the Mac Java software
This will download a disk image file
Once it has finished downloading mount the image file by opening it
In the Finder window it opens run the Java installer by double clicking on it, and then install as normal
    Quit the web-browser
Relaunch the web-browser (which forces it to load the new Java plugin)
    Visit the http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp page again
Click on the 'Test the currently installed version of Java' link again
This time it should work and show you the version proving it is working

  • More issues with app-v 5.0 SP2 Hotfix 4

    All,
I am just looking for some confirmations on the following two issues I have encountered in my environment since Hotfix 4 applied. I will be logging issues to Microsoft tomorrow.
    1. Microsoft Visio 2010 STD wont register with KMS licensing anymore.
    2. Environment variables are ignored outside app-v bubble. *See my below thread (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/3da89298-f44c-405a-94b9-c4b577585361/appv-5-package-ignores-environment-variable-included-in-virtual-registry?forum=mdopappv)

  • Java Plugin Won't Run!!! HELP!!!!

I installed 1.4 and it wouldn't run any of swing applets, so I uninstalled it, now I get
    Java Plug-in 1.4 Fatal Error
Java Plug-in 1.3.1_01 cannot be located because values in the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/JavaSoft/Java Plug-in/1.3.1_01 is not found or is no longer valid.
I have uninstalled ALL versions of the runtime and sdk and installed the 1.3.1_03. I STILL get the same error. I have searched through the registry and can not find any references to the 1.4. WHERE IS IT GETTING THAT, and how in the @*%& do I fix my machine!!!
    HELP!!!!!
please email me at [email protected]

This problem afflicted Firefox for me. I have JDK 1.3.1, J2SDK 1.4.2 and JDK 1.5.0 installed on my machine.
I had recently installed the Oracle Enterprise Manager Console, and the issue started up after that install (thank you Oracle for adding your JRE references to the beginning of my Path Environment Variable).
As recommended by the previous two responses, I removed the Oracle JRE entry (C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.3.1\bin) from my Path Environment Variable and the problem has gone away (I also removed the C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.1.8\bin entry for sanity's sake).
I add this reply at this late date so that Googling the issue will also reference Firefox, since all previous articles that I've found only reference IE.

  • Java in the long run. Reusing objects?

Is it really neccessary to break every code down into the smallest bean possible. I am aware that that it can make coding easier to use on the following write and understand BUT. Is it abs. neccessary to break it down into it's finest deail. For exaample. If I have a ap that needs to get a name from the user must I use a getName() name method that implement a getFirstName() getMiddleName() and getSurname method? The reason why I ask is that it makes the code extremely long to scale and search.

You can never have too many fields... I was involved in a "street address" project awhile back. Do you have any idea how many variations there are of a common 'ole garden street address? There's only about a thousand of them (OK, maybe I'm exagerating, just slightly)... but we'd been recording street addresses in various systems, each with a varying "incomplete" breakdown... add hundreds of users and the only consistency you can count on is total KAOS... which is real problem if you're the "point of truth" for "What is the "official" street address of this block of land."... and all we had was filthy free text data, which a human could (almost allways) interpret... but a computer, no chance... they're just too dumb.
Most (say a-half-million or so) of our problems could have been avoided if the programmers of yore had just used seperate fields for "unit number", "street number", and "street name" for starters, instead of just a free text "address line 1".
You can never have too many fields.

i have installed hyperion reporting and analysis 9.3 and hyperion reporting and analysis UI services 9.3
i need a java plugin before i run the URL
    [http://hostname:port/WebAnalysis_Server/index.html]
    please provide the java plugin
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I had the same problem with Java plugin a few years back. Have you considered using the HTML version (Workspace) to access your WA reports? This method should be faster since you're not using applet, but some objects such as split pane don't work in the HTML version.

  • Troubles java plugin -  automatic download

    Hello,
I' ve followed the instructions in the section "plugging into swing"
and use this HTML to let the user download the VM automatically.
However in WIN98 en WIN2000, it causes a lot of troubles, the VM download succeeds but the applet doesn't run well.
Is there something wrong with this code? (Or is there an other way to automatically download the plugin?)
When you manually install the plugin, the applet runs fine.
    Thanks a lot,

  • App-V 5.0 SP2 RDS Client with hotfix 2 breaks frequently on Windows 2012R2 with User Profile Disks enabled

    Hi All,
I am at my wit's end trying to troubleshoot this, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
We are having serious stability issues with App-V 5.0 SP2 RDS in our environment with User Profile Disks enabled.
We have applied the latest hotfix but the issues persist.
    The main problems are:
    1. Periodically the client seems to become corrupted and all applications stop working for all users. All applications including the official Microsoft Office 2013 ones - not just our packages.
The symptoms are the same as if I change the App-V Client Service account to run under a user account instead of SYSTEM, so it suggests a file access issue. The log files also hint at this, and one of there errors is similar to this:
The virtual application 'C:\Users\rds.user9\AppData\Local\Microsoft\AppV\Client\Integration\A3EF9C01-C0E9-4AC5-B21F-DB9B1D2F700C\Root\Mindjet\MindManager 14\MindManager.exe' could not be started because the
    App-V Subsystem 'Virtual Filesystem' could not be initialized. {error: 0x6740090A-0x20003}
Once this problem occurs the only way I have found to fix it is to either completely remove and reinstall the client, or (perhaps this is the big clue) rename the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\AppV\MAV\Configuration\Volumes , unpublish
an application, then republish said application.
I don't even think it matters which application gets published. The point seems to be that this 'Volumes' key gets rewritten.
I am highly suspicious that our issues are caused by User Profile disks in our RDS environment, as when I disable them on our staging collection all of these issues seem to disappear.
I have made sure all of the servers have permissions on the share (folder and share permissions). It doesn't seem to make a difference.
    2.  Some application fail completely with User Profile Disks enabled. If we switch the setting from "Store all settings and data on the user profile disk" to "Store Only the following folders" there seems to be some improvement,
in that at least one application that fails on the other setting starts to work.
    3. We have already set that NTFS 8 dot 3 reg fix some time ago.
    SOS!
We have gone live this week (not my call) and this is having disasterous consequences. :(
    Thanks in advance,
    John

    Hi,
    Thanks for your response.
I did try this a while ago without success, although it may be worth revisiting with SP2 applied.
I have left this client now.
I left them a Powershell script that deletes HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\AppV\MAV\Configuration\Volumes
and triggers an Unpublish/Publish of an application we have deployed to all of the servers.
This seems to work, but a fix would be better than a workaround.
Not really my problem now though - I did my best.
    Thanks,
    John

  • Is it possible to open the Java plugin / WebStart Console from my app ?

    Hi,
I would like to know if it is possible to add a menuitem to my application that would start the Java plugin/web start console.
That would be nice when people have errors in my application.

Thanks for the information, but is there a way to do it without using exec methods ?
I just want to bring up the Java Console from my app, in the more portable way possible ;-)

  • Force a particular ver. of Java plugin to load for a particular app on XP

    Hi all,
We have installed 2 versions of Java PlugIns on the XP build. The versions are 1.2.2 and 1.3.1_06. Some applications require 1.2.2 while some other applications require 1.3.1. If 1.3.1 is loaded for the apps that require 1.2.2, some problems will occur, and vice versa. Is there a way to force 1.2.2 be loaded when the app that requires it is launched? Is there a way to indicate a particular version of Java PlugIn for a particular application so that the correct version of PlugIn will be used for the apps?
    Thanks!
    Tam

If you can be sure only 1.3.1_06 and 1.2.2 are on the PC, I think you will be ok if you install 1.3.1_06 first and then 1.2.2. Then 1.2.2 will be set as the default JVM and your applet that uses 1.3.1_06 will have to use the CAFEEFAC-0013-0001-0006-ABCDEFFEDCBA tag for object id.
Unfortunately, this CAFE... convention only works in 1.3.1+ so you can't use it to specify 1.2.2. FYI - you can tell the default Java Plug-in version by looking in the registry at this key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D3}\InprocServer32
    Hope this helps!

We are using Oracle ERP in our company which is a web based ERP system. I am using firefox to work in ERP for convinieince pf working and using internet at the same time. However, after upgrading to 3.6 version the forms do not open and firefox crashes. It's not in Tools> Add-ons >plugins?  Should be Java Plug-in 2 for NPAPI browsers 13.5.0. What are you seeing there? I don't think it's called the embedding plugin any longer.
Might try getting the Firefox 5 standalone application. Trash the current one and replace it. Doing this won't affect your Profile or any settings.
