App-V 5.0 SP2 user applications published via SCCM 2012 to VDI workstations with roaming only

Hi,
The environment consists of App-V 5.0 SP2 (KB2956985) user based applications published via SCCM 2012 to Windows 7 VDI snapshotted workstations that are reset at user logoff.
When a user logs on the SCCM 2012 client initiates App-V client package publishing.  After a couple of minutes after logon the shortcuts appear and the user can launch their applications.
The issue is that at logoff, even with roaming enabled, the publishing information disappears.  This causes the next logon process for that user to repeat, the applications are not available until the SCCM client has completed it's publishing cycle.
Roaming profiles are implemented. %APPDATA% is redirected to a UNC path.  The following registry key is set
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\AppV\Client\Integration\PreserveUserIntegrationsOnLogin=1
U-EV, global publishing of applications, and AppLocker rules are not an option.  Also, I have read this already - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn659478.aspx#BKMK_PE
I do not want to wait for the SCCM client to kick in prior to the user applications being available.  What do I need to roam or run to create a seamless transition for the user between sessions?
Eddie.

Hi Tywin (bad username considering the last GoT Episode ;))
If you ask Microsoft, they always recommend using SCCM for deploying App-V packages and reuse your current SCCM infrastructure if that is already in place. Problem is, as you now experience, is that there is some big caveats both in regards to publishing
time and to roaming of settings.
As Nické states I would suggest looking into the Full Infrastructure Model for App-V 5.x, which gives you much better performance in what I call "from no apps" to "being able to click the shortcut" - the add and publishing phase. If you don't have the time/budget/whatever
to start looking into that, you could look into some community tools like App-V Scheduler which is developed specific by Citrix guys to ease the publishing and management in a Citrix world.
Microsoft have a great article about Performance Guidelines, which you have read, but it mostly presumes you work with Full Infrastructure. Have you looked into Steve Thomas' session from TechEd NA? It talks about "implementation trends".

  • Applications Bundles via SCCM 2012 R2

Hello i want to deploy 7 microsoft updates in a sequence.
my requirement : after the first update is installed and when the user reboots his computer ,second update has to be installed.how to create a sequence for the updates and deploy them
my sccm is not integrated with wsus, and i am not using software update as my sccm is not connected to outside world.

I'm not really sure what you mean by "user reboots". If you're going to use a task sequence, everything that you add to that task sequence will be run in a sequence (as of the name). The task sequence doesn't have any built in functionality to just run one
part of the task sequence, and then wait until a users reboots the device.
If any step in the task sequence would fail, e.g. one of the updates won't install, the whole task sequence will break and you'll see in the ConfigMgr console that it failed on that device.
In your situation, I'd do the following:
    1. Download all the MSU files that you need to deploy, and put them into a single location (folder).
    2. Create a Package and point the content source to where you put the MSU files.
    3. Create a new Custom Task Sequence.
    4. Add a Run Command Line step for each of the MSU files with the following command line:
    wusa.exe <file-name.msu> /quiet /norestart
    5. Then as the last step in your task sequence, add a Restart Computer step and make sure to select so that it reboots into the installed operating system.
    6. Deploy this task sequence to your clients, and make sure that you've a maintenance window in place so you can control when the installation happens on the clients.

  • How do Virtual Applications get published in SCCM 2012

SCCM 2012 Virtrual applications are deployed, icons appear on desktop and appear to be installed according to the Application Management Client console.  However the SCCM2012 AppDiscovery.log states "Required component is not published".

  • Lenonvo T440 with Intel SSD SC2BF240A4L - failing to install apps via SCCM 2012 task sequence

    Hi there
Wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue with a T440 with Intel SSD hard disk.
Our firm purchased two Lenovo T440 laptops. One has a magnetic hard disk, the other a SSD hard disk. Here are the models:
    SSD hard disk:           Intel SSDSC2BF240A4L
    Magnetic hard disk:   500Gb 7200rpm HTS725050A7E635
We deploy our Windows 7 build via a SCCM 2012 task sequence.
Building the T440 with the magnetic hard disk was trouble free. I built it repeatedly, and encountered no errors; our core applications installed successfully every time and the task sequence completed successfully every time.
    All well and good.
Building the T440 with the Intel SSD hard disk has been frustrating. When I run the task sequence on this machine, 8 times out of 10 the task sequence will fail, either stopping abruplty at installing Oracle Single-Sign On or Appsense agents. When the task sequence fails it is ALWAYS at one of these two apps.
Frustratingly, sometimes the task sequence will complete successfully on this T440.
Given we successfully deploy this task sequence to a variety of different hardware from different vendors, including other Lenovo laptops, I can only guess the Intel SSD hard disk is the culprit.
Has anyone encountred anything like this? I've went through the smsts.log file and other SCCM log files and can find nothing obvious. That this ONLY happens on the T440 with the SSD suggests to me the issues lies in that direction.
I'll swap disks in either T440 to see if the other T440 fails also with the SSD aboard, to see what happens.
Meantime if anyone has any information about this issue I'd be grateful if you coud share.
    Thanks
    CT

Does the install provide any logging? Does execmgr.log show any other info?
Per the readme, it should be setup.exe.

  • Re-image computer with no user interaction at all - SCCM 2012

I have searched many posts and havent found a clear solution for my question.
Basically, I have OSD task sequence ready to go on my SCCM 2012 R2. It is fine to run it as "Available".
If I deploy the OSD through Software Center as "Required" and "ASAP", then I login the client, the client will run OSD task sequence sometime after about 30Min-1 hour later, not sure. And there will be no user interaction needed. However
this means I need remotely log into each computer to let OSD happen.
If I deploy the same TASK Sequence as "Required" and "ASAP" through "PXE", it will first ask PXE Password(Which I set in DP->PXE Panel), then I need hit "Next" again to start the assigned OSD, which means I need
physically go to each computer to do this. (EDIT: If needed, I can remove PXE password and add VB scripts in other Task Sequence, however I want to know if I still need press NEXT to start the OSD).
The clients are not AMT enabled but Lan Wake up enabled and also can be set to LAN WAKE UP Enabled with boot from LAN. I can wake up/shutdown the whole collection with command if needed.
Is there a way that I can Re-image one collection of Computers without any interaction on client side?
The other question is how long to wait for OSD when it is set to "ASAP"?
    RockyOZ

Guess I just answered question myself. With PXE Password removed, the OSD runs without user interaction. Thanks. I will add the password in task sequences instead.

  • How to stop Application deployment in sccm 2012?

    Hi All
If a application is wrongly deployed to wrong collection in sccm 2012
how to stop that and where to change settings like we used to do in sccm 2007 we can
    stop it by program properties.

You have kind of the same feature with Applications in CM2012. You can just right-click an Application, and select "Retire".
That will change the status of the Application from "Active" to "Retired", and should prevent installations. When you've fixed the problem, you can just "Reinstate" the Application again, and everything should be back to normal.
But I totally agree with Jason. Make sure you do the proper testing, so you won't have to do this at all :-)

    Hi,
is any limitation to deploy the .exe application from SCCM 2012 R2??
    Shailendra Dev

No limitation. You just need to know how to install it silently. It is a more manual configuration than if you had an MSI.

  • Updates Publisher 2011 + SCCM 2012 - no signing certificate every time (Bug?)

    Hello everybody,
I got a strange problem with the System Center Updates Publisher 2011 which I want to use with SCCM 2012 (SP1).
Some weeks ago I was able to enable the publishing on the update server (SCUP + SCCM + WSUS are the same machine), to create a self signed certificate and to astablish the connection to the WSUS server.
Some weeks later the SCUP seems to "forgot" the certificate and the option "Enable publishing to an update server" is disabled.
If I try to reactivate this option then I can not create a new self signed certificate anymore.
I get always the "... test connection succeeded. However, no signing certificate was detected ..." dialog.
I also can not choose the existing certificate (.pfx) file ("No certificate information available").
    Is this a bug?
Can I deinstall the SCUP completely and create a new certificate again?

Did you open SCUP as administrator? But Yes, you can reinstall SCUP and create another cert or use the existing cert.

  • App-V 5.0 SP2 (Office Deployment Toolkit) - Unable to create Project and Visio with different package ID

We would like to create 2 App-V packages with the
    Office Deployment Tool
    - Visio Std 2013
    - Project Std 2013.
The App-V packages are created successfully, the problem is that the package-id of both packages is the same.
When we deploy for example, Visio to a client and afterwards Project, Visio gets replaced in App-V by Project.
Is anyone else facing this issue ?

So I wanted to bring everybody up to speed on some changes. You can manage multiple Office packages by generating different PACKAGEGUID attributes (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219426.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396)
using the Office Deployment Toolkit BUT - the following still applies:
Only one Office package can be deployed to a machine at a time.
Only VL and Subscription Pro options are available for packaging via App-V.

“This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. User assumes all risks.”
Steve is there any chance this stance may change, or is there any feedback we can give (we have already followed up with our TAM and have also put in tickets but effectively have not gone anywhere other then to explain what the model of support is)?
To be perfectly honest its a very hard model to support since users are licenses for Visio and Project separately, not to mention the lack of user publishing (targeting) and Office Standard support.
We have put in advisory and problem tickets with MS for months in hopes of using the ODT packages in our non persistent VDI environment but I don't believe it will possible.
In short if we have to separate our images or pools to support the various possibilities we are losing what App-V gains us: on demand (per user) publishing to limit the number of gold images we need.
The loss of Office Standard support also leaves us in a tricky spot, because at the end of the day we have to find a way to support those users.
Not looking to put you on the spot, just hoping there is a way to give effective feedback or discuss how to use the ODT packages in a way that makes life easier, not more restrictive.

    Hello,
    See these topics;

I would assume that the file-system you are attempting to place the app is not supported. The above articles could give you a hint on what to verify why that is the case.

  • Application Request for SCCM 2012 R2

I'm trying to gather the "Optional Reference" in the application settings to modify an Application Workflow we're creating. I'm unable to located this in the database or via a wmi call.
If anyone has any options, please let me know. I'm following Neils blog. But I need this to seperate software requiring licenses and others that don't.
I found this, but it doesn't seem to work.

    $AppObject = Get-CmApplication -name $appname
    [XML]$xml = $AppObject.SDMPackageXML
    $OptionalRef = $xml.AppMgmtDigest.Application.CustomID.'#text'

I got this to work using the following script.
    $PSE = Powershell{
    import-module ($Env:SMS_ADMIN_UI_PATH.Substring(0,$Env:SMS_ADMIN_UI_PATH.Length-5) + '\ConfigurationManager.psd1')
    $PSD = Get-PSDrive -PSProvider CMSite
    CD "$($PSD):"
    $AppObject = Get-CmApplication -name adobereaderxi

    $OptionalRef = $xml.AppMgmtDigest.Application.CustomID."#text"

  • User cannot connect to SCCM 2012 R2 CAS site from any location

I have a strange issue happening with only one of my users. No matter where he attempts to connect from, his console session gets hung up at
“Connecting to Site Database”.  He is the only one of my users having this issue and was able to connect up to a few days ago.  I originally thought the issue was his user profile on
our RDS server farm, so I removed his profile with no improvement.  I even tried to have him RDP to my CAS server and use the main console from there, but he gets the same result.
Any idea where I should look?
    Thanks.

  • Application Catalog Issues SCCM 2012 R2

    Hi,
I am trying to get the Application Catalog working.
Quick first question. Is there anyway to force the link in Software Centre to open IE rather than the default browser which is Chrome in my case? I suspect not but asking anyway.
My main issue however is the Certificates. Using a standard Certificate with only the FQDN as the DNS entry for the Alternative Name works. The issue with that however is as the site loads using the Netbios name I get a certificate error.
I have tried setting the website through Client Settings to use the FQDN however when I then try to load the site I get the 401 - Unauthorised Access message.
I have tried creating a new certificate with both the FQDN and Netbios name listed as DNS entries (This may be wrong as certificates are not my area) and setting the Client settings back to auto detect. This works so much as the site loads but says: "the
website cannot communicate with the server" in the main section of the screen but still has the Application Catalog theme.
I have tried a few things with different combos but I cant figure out what I am doing as IIS isn't my area either. Not sure why adding in the FWDN to the URL suddenly completely breaks the website with 401 message or why having a certificate with the Netbios
as well as the FWDN on the cert breaks communication.
Any help would be great. I have made no changes to the default settings other than what is listed above.
    Cheers,
    Zac Avramides

Like all things SCCM it appears this was a time issue. Still unsure as to why having the FQDN over the Netbias names creates 401 errors though. Would be nice to know why. Needed to allow around an hour after the certificate update on IIS in order for the
change to work. Simply added the both the FQDN and Netbios names as Common Names and DNS Entries.
Would still like to know if it is possible to direct Software Centre to IE rather than Chrome as Chrome will always have the error.

  • USMT to User State Server (PXE) sccm 2012 r2

I apologize if this has been asked before, but I have spent quite a bit of time searching and not really finding any good material or if it was even possible.  Our information security officer wants us to scrub all of our assets during the reimage
process.  This eliminates the possibility of doing hardlink USMT through PXE.  We start all of our images from PXE and don't make the reimage task sequences available through the operating system
My question is there a way to back up to the USMT server from PXE?  We are currently running on 2008 R2 and SCCM 2012 R2.
Thanks for any help you can provide!

This thread should answer your above question plus a bit more.

  • Application deployment in SCCM 2012

We have a central site and 2 primary sites. I recently notice that deployment policy setup in my Americas site also gets applied to my Europe site. I know in SCCM 2012 a lot of things get replicated across sites but just want to confirm that SCCM deployment
policy also replicates? We usually limit our deployment to workstations within our site but i created a collection with all the workstations globally and was going to create 2 deployments one in each site to target machines within the collection but it looks
like the deployment that i create  within the Americas site also applied to Europe workstations.
    Is this native behavior? thanks.

However, if each site uses unique queries that you target, instead of a common query between each site, then the deployment would not be implemented at the other site as the collection would contain no members. Collections (rules) and deployments do replicate,
but only affect local clients in the targeted collection.
And you can use role-based administration so that admins at one site don't see objects created at other sites.
