App-V 5.0SP2 question with SCCM 2012 CU4 (functionality vs full support with R2)

I understand that for App-V 5.0 SP2 and SCCM 2012 SP1 integration at least CU4 is required but R2 with CU1 for full functionality.
I’ve attached an image from some session that someone else gave me. I have questions after looking at the slide since there are no details on what is not fully supported with CU4 pre R2.
Since we have immediate plans to add CU4 to our SCCM 2012 SP1 environment can anyone please give us a break down of what functionality is not available in App-V 5.0 SP2 before we go all the way up to SCCM 2012 R2?
On another note does anyone have any clue what TechED session that was from so I can see the replay?
Thanks very much for any info on this.

Hello,
As per the slide - CU1 is required for full support with R2.
See this article;

Application Virtualization
This cumulative update adds support for Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V) 5.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2). The following issues are seen only in App-V 5.0 SP2 environments earlier than CU1:
With App-V 5.0 SP2, when a new version of an App-V package supersedes an earlier version, and when that earlier version is being used, the package is listed as not published. Errors that resemble the following are logged in the AppEnforce.log and the AppDiscovery.log
files.

  • App v package distribution issue to sccm 2012 DP

    Hi,
We are migrating app-v 4.6 packages to sccm 2012 , after importing the packages when we update DP its not copying the dependent scripts inside the appv package to Dp and hence when application launches it fails to launch the vb script.
the script is made to run when shortcut is launched, but no vb script is copied to DP , but I have all files intact in source folder iyt just copies .sprj,xml,osd.
Please suggest how to make all the files in package abcd.001 to get copied in DP.
Does App-v package distribution is different from normal package.
    Thanks
    Shuaib

Open up the app in the sequencer, add the file to your scripts folder. If the script requires to be run elevated, you'll want to use the Deployment config file and use Global publishing....
If you don't need elevation you can use the User Config and won't need to publish globally.

  • App-V 5 Virtual Environments in SCCM 2012 SP1

I am attempting to use SCCM 2012 SP1 to Deploy App-V v5 Applications.  So far deploying applications to user groups (like I did with 4.6) seem to work well.  The only issue that I am having is deploying Virtual Environments (the new way of
"dynamic sequencing).  My problem is that on the client side, the App Connection Groups are not being populated.  What can I do to fix this?  The applications are deployed to a user group collection and not a machine collection.  From
what I have found this is possible but it is not working for me.  Anything to help is GREATLY appreciated!!

Since no one has answer this post, I recommend opening  a support case with CSS as they can work with you to solve this problem.

  • Questions Regarding SCCM 2012 Deployment

I have been tasked with finding out if SCCM 2012 Config Manager is capable of the following task:
    1) Capturing a User Profile
    2) Backing up the profile
    3) Wiping the target drive
    4) Applying an OS image
    5) Restoring backed-up user profile
Is this possible with SCCM 2012?
    Let me know, thanks!

    Hi,
Yes it is possible, a refresh scenario.. here is a video example

  • SCCM 2012, Intune and Windows OS Support

I am just trying to confirm what I believe I am reading about Microsoft OS Support for Windows Intune when integrated with SCCM 2012 R2...
What I believe to be the case:
Windows RT, Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1 all have the ability to enroll via OMA-DM, thus can be managed by SCCM.
Down-level OS's such as XP SP3, Vista, and Windows 7 require the Intune Client to be installed, thus can only be managed by a standalone Intune subscription?
    Can anyone confirm this?
    Thanks!

    More or less correct.
Generally, even for Win 8.1 and WinRT, IBCM or DirectAccess are a better choice than OMA-DM as it can only enable management of a limited subset of features. Two important ones cannot be: software updates and endpoint protection.
As you've seen (based on your other thread), you can still use the Intune subscription that is connected to your ConfigMgr site to manage devices with the Intune client installed. Effectively, there are two halves of the Intune subscription, the full client
management half and MDM half which can be controlled by Intune or ConfigMgr. Just because the MDM half is controlled by ConfigMgr does not technically preclude you from still utilizing the full client management half. That's not at all saying you should do
this though, but you certainly could.

  • SCCM 2012 CU4: any specifics to know?

    Hi,
    We're about to upgrade to CU4 (from CU1) in SCCM 2012 R2.
Of course we will test in UAT environment but would like to know if you encountered issues we should be aware about.

Just make sure that it runs without issues in *your* UAT environment because every implementation is different. I am not aware of any major issues.

  • App-V 5.0 Streaming over SCCM 2012 SP1 - High Availability / Load Balancig

    Hello Anybody,
the default App-V 5.0 Streaming (SharedContentStoreMode = on) Deployment over SCCM belongs to a HTTP-Streaming over http:\\SCCM-Server\... . The whole content flows from SCCM to the App-V-Client. Is it possible to create there a high availability solution?
Yes, we can set a second distribution point. But in th App-V-Client are always only one Distribution Source.
Is it possible to set there an clustered adress of an other IIS? Is it possible to change the publishing Distribution Source with an SMB-Path to File-Cluster? Is there a trick with Source-Root-Parameter in App-V-Client? Or are ther anything else to create
    a high availibility App-V-Streaming-Solution?
Yes, with App-V-Management-Server there is a high availability solution. - But we have only SCCM-Infrastruktur for App-V-Distribution.
    Thank you, best regards
    Daniel

    Daniel, do you found solution?

  • MAC OS X Certificates question in SCCM 2012 R2

We recently switched our SCCM environment over to HTTPS/PKI and everything has been working well.  We were now wanting to include MAC's into our environment for some asset reporting.  But we recently started to notice some errors on teh enrollment
server.  If we re-image a MAC, and re-enroll it to SCCM it creates another record and cert I believe.  So what I was doing was deleting the old record which seemed like not a big deal till we started getting the errors below.
Our MAC clients are not bound by to AD by the way either.
Failed to revoke Certificate on CA: ******\DUQCA1 with serial number: 1*******00000000573F. Check CA permission.
ICertAdmin2 RevokeCertificate failed: Access is denied.
Do we need to make the user able to revoke the permissions also?  I did not see this in the step by step from Microsoft.  What would best practice be?

    Hi,
As far as I know, there is no other way except manually deleting them.
In addition, we’d love to hear your feedback about the solution. By sharing your experience you can help other community members facing similar problems.

  • How SCCM 2012 compliance function find unknown usb device

As we all know the SCCM get its own compliance DB and can monitor the all device information.
So my scenario is I want to set the USB device with known(permit) and unknown(still permit, but as the admin, I need to know who are using the unknown device).
Any one could give me some advice or procedure what should I do next ?
    Asuka from ITECN

Do you want to restrict USB drives? If yes, there is a list of recently connected USB drives available in
    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USBSTOR
You can write a Powershell script that enumerates the subkeys there, filters out allowed USB keys (i.e. company provided encrypted ones) and puts the computer into noncompliant state if a nonapproved drive was connected.
If this is about general USB hardware, you can get the list of connected hardware with
gwmi win32_pnpentity | select Name, DeviceID
Of course, there will be thousands of different devices even in a small company, so while you could quite easily blacklist certain devices, building a whitelist will be pretty much an impossible task.

  • App-v management server or SCCM 2012 integration?

    Hi,
We are using App-V 5.0 integrated within SCCM 2012 for a while now but aren't happy with it.
Hope was that in some update of sccm 2012 it would improve but it does not. That's why the idea arises to use the Ap-V management server again.
Below a comparison of the two options, I was wondering what your opinion on this matter is.
    App-V via SCCM 2012:
    Pro:
    Full integration with SCCM 2012
    Contra:
Dependency on SCCM 2012 client (when SCCM client doens’t work, App-V doesn’t work either)
Slow responstimes before package arrives at user (SCCM needs to scan AD groups, SCCM client needs a policy refresh)
    App-V Management server:
    Pro:
Deploy is also possible to computers as from App-V 5.0 management server
    http://virtualvibes.co.uk/enabling-computer-based-targeting-in-app-v-5-0/
“the fact that we can now target machines instead of users when publishing packages”
    Fast respsonsetime: deploy & uninstall
Automatic uninstall when user/computer isn’t member of AD group anymore
    Contra:
    Extra server needed
Note: the migration from SCCM to the App-V Management server should be transparent, right? Unpublish existing packages via SCCM, publish via management server
    Please advise.

The Definitive Guide to Delivering Microsoft Office with App-V

  • Coexistence of the SCCM 2012 R2 client and the App-V Full Infrastructure Model

Our environment currently has the App-V Full Infrastructure Model deployed with Windows 7 clients using hundreds of App-V apps.  We plan to deploy SCCM 2012 R2 to the environment.
What is the affect on our Windows 7 users when the SCCM 2012 R2 client is deployed - will their existing App-V apps (utilizing the App-V Full Infrastructure Model) continue to function? Or will SCCM 'take over' all App-V functionality?
The only documentation I can find on this is one paragraph in the App-V and ConfigMgr 2012 White Paper (http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/5/A/15AD0DD6-40A8-49E3-86D6-C21E5D0BC7F8/App-V%20and%20ConfigMgr%202012%20White%20Paper.pdf) which
    states:
Q: Is it possible to perform a phased migration from an App-V standalone or App-V Full Infrastructure
to Configuration Manager virtual application management?
A: Yes, migration to Configuration Manager virtual application management begins with deployment of
an App-V application from Configuration Manager 2012. Upon the first deployment in Configuration
Manager 2012, no new applications can be deployed via other methods, but all previously deployed
    packages will be retained.
A blog post here (http://www.applepie.se/config-mgr-2012-and-app-v) seems to indicate this is expected behavior.
But then, this contradicts what Microsoft says on the TechNet website (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj822982.aspx):
Configuration Manager begins to manage virtual applications on a client after the first deployment of a virtual application. After this, all App-V applications on the computer must be managed by Configuration Manager.
Does anyone have any opinions or experience on this? Or further information?
My Microsoft Core Infrastructure & Systems Management blog -
    blog.danovich.com.au

As soon as an App-V package is deployed to a user/device via SCCM then it takes over the management of the client on that device, therefore App-V packages coming from the App-V publishing server will no longer be deployed to that device.
I would assume that full cached apps would continue to be run on the local device but new content would no longer be deployed from it.
    Cheers

  • SCCM 2012 and App-V Virtual Environment challenges.

    Hi
We are running App-V 5.0 from our SCCM 2012 installation. I have created a App-V Virtual Environment for IE 9 witch includes Silverlight and Java, and i works perfect. However I have experienced a problem every time Java publishes a new java version, were
iE crashes. What is the best/smartest way to add a new Java in App-V Virtual Environment. Can i do it on the fly, or do i have to create a new App-V Virtual Environment, and delete the old one? Can you have 2 different Java versions in the same App-V Virtual
Environment And finally, how long time should it take before newpluggin is registered on the client.
    Br. Per

Personally I prefer to uses layers to build up your image.
    So:
    Layer-0 = Operating System
Layer-1 = Frameworks (.NET Framework, C++, Java, Silverlight, etc)
Layer-2 = Office (Office Suite, Corporate Identity plugins, Lync, etc)
Layer-3 = Locally installed applications users can start (Adobe Reader, 7-zip, etc)
    Layer-4 = Virtual applications (Notepad++, Winmerge, etc)
I place Java in Layer-1. Locally installed and updated by a deployment tool (in your case SCCM). There are some pros and cons about this:
    Pros:
    - Easy to update
    - Less package size
    Con:
    - Every app should be tested when updated
    - Security is reduced because it is locally installed
    So, to answer your questions
What is the best/smartest way to add a new Java in App-V Virtual Environment?
You can add it to the package by using the "Modify an Existing Virtual Application Package" option in the sequencer.
Can you have 2 different Java versions in the same App-V Virtual Environment?
If you use 2 seperate packages, yes. That's the advantage of virtualization.
Some applications support two versions in the same package, you should test this for Java.
How long time should it take before newpluggin is registered on the client?
If you import your new package into SCCM it should take as long as a new package.

  • SCCM 2012 App-V 5 Virtual Enviroments Not Created During OSD or Task Sequence

Hi all, I'm in the process of adding some App-V 5 applications into our SCCM 2012 R2 OSD Windows 7 builds.
If I install an App-V application which is in a virtual environment, and all applications that are in the virtual environment are installed during the OSD or task sequence, the Virtual Environment doesn't get created.
The only time that the Virtual Environment gets created is if the machine has an application deployment for the same app-v apps targeted at it.
Is this any way to get the Virtual Environment created as part of the build without having an applicationdeployment targeted at each machine?
    Appreciate your help.

Hi, the AppEnforce.log just has the installation of the App-V apps I've specified in the task sequence. There are no references to virtual environments like the below which appear if I have an actual deployment of the App-v application.

  • App-v OSD's not getting imported to SCCM 2012

    Hi
Currently i am migrating APP-V 4.6 PACKAGES to SCCM 2012, as part of this process few OSD's of applications are not getting imported.
ex:- if application has 10 OSD then only 5 OSD are getting imported.
Since App-v 4.6 was earlier standalone all the OSD were published to different user using different AD groups,
Do the package has to be edited again to import all OSD or manifest files has to be changed to include all OSD to get imported to SCCM 2012.
    Thanks

Open up the app in the sequencer, add the file to your scripts folder. If the script requires to be run elevated, you'll want to use the Deployment config file and use Global publishing....
If you don't need elevation you can use the User Config and won't need to publish globally.
