App-V 5 Connection Groups on Client

All,
I am having an issue with a specific connetion group.  If my tech's remove the connection group and applications and do a sync from with powershell the connection group does not appear in the client console or in powershell.  If I run a get-appvclientconnectiongroup
-all, i see that it is there but I get the following:
Name               : Intranet
IsEnabledToUser    : False
The connection group is deployed to users and not to the machine. I do see in the operational log that the connection group was successfully configured.
Virtual application connection group {guid} version {guid} was successfully configured
In the client-catalog debug, there is a Package {guid}, version {guid} was not found in the user Catalog.
Our current client is 5.0 SP1 HF 3, but I have also verified the same behavior happens with 5.0 SP2 HF 4 as well.
My enviroment:
Management/Publishing Server App-v 5.0 SP1 HF2
Brian

Thank you Ben but...
Thats where I run into issues with the connection group.  If I remove the computer connection Group and packages using the commands above, the connection group(s) do not come back.  If I get-appvconnectiongroup -all, I can see that App-V
does see the connention group, but does not enable it for the user.
Name               : Intranet
IsEnabledToUser    : False

***Because this issue Baogles my Mind! After all I'am only dealing with half a Brain, LOL- Due to Brain Tumor Surgery...

I FOUND SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM!
I had this issue on my laptop since November, and it really bugged me.  I sifted through the event log and found the pattern of events that preceded the issue, and, probably, caused it.
In short, the pattern is as follows: Windows updates run automatically as scheduled, and when reboot is initiated after the updates are finished, the computer crashes (probably during reboot sequence).  When it boots up, it reports that the last shutdown
was unexpected, and the issue begins to occur.
I spent 2 days trying to dig out a solution from the Internet, to no avail, until I came across
this page.  It doesn't say anything about this particular problem, but it gives more information about SVCHOST process that starts many services, including Group Policy Client.  It looks like during reboot a vital registry settings were lost during
crash and Group Policy Client "doesn't know" how to start.  Let me explain:
There are two places to look in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services this path should contain
gpsvc key (a folder), which is responsible for service parameters and configuration.  I found that the key was intact, so, you do not touch anything here - just check that the key exists.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SVCHOST This is the most important path you should look into, as it must contain the keys and values referred in the key #1.  Below are descriptions what must be present
    there.
There must be Multi-String value called GPSvcGroup. My laptop was missing it.  So, you should create multi-string value named
GPSvcGroup and assign it value GPSvc.
Next, you must create a key (a folder) and name it GPSvcGroup - this key normally should be there, but, again, it was missin on my laptop.
Then open newly-created GPSvcGroup folder and create 2 DWORD values:
First called AuthenticationCapabilities and you must give it a value of 0x00003020 (or 12320 in decimal)
Second is called CoInitializeSecurityParam and it must have value of 1.
Once you complete all steps above, reboot the computer and the problem will be fixed.
I am so relieved I was able to fix it, and hope this will help others with the similar issue.
Here is the link to the video walkthrough if you have any troubles understanding what has to be done: http://youtu.be/4m5KEmckWK4
I did try the above, but it did not fix my issue with the ""group policy client service failed the logon".
This problem was happening on 5 different RDS Nodes. All I did was rename the Roaming Profile, then delete the locally stored profile on each RDS Server: right click COMPUTER > PROPERTIES > ADVANCED SYSTEM SETTINGS > USER PROFILES > delete the
    offending User(s).
    Hope that helps.

  • Connection Group is published as 2 seperate packages

I have the weirdest issue in App-V 5.0
    we use Windows 7 SP1 Clients with App-V 5.0 SP1
I add 2 applications to the App-V Server seperately :
    SQL Navigator 7 & Oracle 10.2
    they're both unpublished!
I made a new Connection Group named SQL Nav 7 & Oracle 10.2 and added the 2 packages.
when I publish the connection group ,the clients are getting the group ok for the first time.
after they logoff and logon - the connection group "Breaks" and they get them as 2 seperate packages THOUGH THEY AREN'T PUBLISHED AS PACKAGES!
there's nothing on the eventlog, I tried to sequence both of the packages again and - nothing. same result
    any ideas ?! :/

  • App-V 5.0 Connection Groups not syncing to Client

    Hi,
i have installed an App-V Management Server and successfully created and published packages to a client.
    I
then tried to create a Connection Group for some Internet Explorer
Plugins, which works on the server (adding packages, assigning to a
group, publishing), but fails to get synced on the client.
The client is listing all packages, but no connection groups.
    App-V Management Server Version 5.0.1224.0
    App-V Client 5.0 SP1 - 5.0.1104.0
I tried 5.0 SP2 Client before, but had the same problem...

If you assigned the packages and CG to a user, you can open a browser on the client machine (with that user) and connet to the Publishing Server URL. This should return above XML.
Note that changes on the Management Server by default take 10 minutes to get replicated to the Publishing Server - and then a sync-appvpublishingserver is required on the client to get the info down there.

I am unable to see the Remote App and Desktop Connection in Group Policy Management Editor on my 2012 R2 DC. I am therefore not able configure the connection URL in Access RemoteApp and desktops in our Windows 8.1 client environment.

    Remote Desktop Connection Client
    Remote Desktop Session Host
    But NOT
    Remote App and Desktop Connection
Which I need. Is there anyway of adding this?

  • App-V 5.0 connection group odd behavior

I am having some odd behavior with an application that I've packaged in App-V 5.0.  We are running App-V for RDS on Server 2012, and I'm on SP2.
The problem I'm having is with a program called SQL Tools 1.6 (a 3rd party tool, not from MS or Oracle).  It's a fairly straightforward program, and it runs fine on App-V 4.6.  But it requires an Oracle client to run.  On App-V 4.6, we have
the Oracle client installed locally on the server.  But with App-V 5, I wanted to make use of connection groups, so that we could use multiple Oracle versions, if necessary, and so that updating Oracle would be easier.  So I have a connection group
that contains SQL Tools and the Oracle client.
What is happening is that when I try to launch SQL Tools, I get an error saying it can't find OCI.DLL (which is in the Oracle path).  I took apart both packages, trying to make sure that the Oracle path variable was correct. I even added the Oracle
path to the SQL Tools package (I even tried hard-coding the local path to the Oracle package).  I always get the same error.  I also swapped the priority of the two packages, but it didn't help.  Then I tried launching a command prompt in the
context of the SQL Tools package.  When I checked the path variable, it was correct, and had the path to oci.dll.  Out of curiosity, I tried running SQL Tools, and it launched no problem.  Then I closed it and tried to launch it from the shortcut
on the desktop, and got the same error as before.  I've tried launching it from various places (desktop shortcut, direct path to the executable, a command prompt without specifying the context of the SQL Tools package, etc.), checking compatibility mode
and setting it to various settings (XP SP3, Windows 7, Run as Administrator on and off, etc.), but nothing seems to work except opening a command prompt in the context of the SQL Tools package, and then running SQL Tools from there.  As a workaround,
I created this short script that launches a command prompt in the context of the SQL Tools package, and then runs SQL Tools from that command prompt:
    $p = Get-AppvClientPackage -Name "SQL Tools 1.6"
    $cmd = '"C:\ProgramData\App-V\BB0D9EC0-3876-42EB-A5E9-92A149D52FB5\37F941F9-B4BA-425F-9FB4-9B699843E767\Root\VFS\ProgramFilesX86\SQLTools 1.6\SQLTools.exe"'
    Start-AppvVirtualProcess -FilePath cmd.exe -ArgumentList "/k $cmd" -AppvClientObject $p
It works, but I would rather not have to use this type of workaround for something that should work natively.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sam

    Hello,
What happens if you launch CMD instead of your tool when starting an application, and from that CMD you start sqltools.exe
    So the command to start the application would be;
    cmd.exe /c sqltools.exe

  • Windows 8.1 cannot connect to group policy client service

Windows 8.1 laptop under administrator account has this "cannot connect to group policy client service" error.Found the following instructions on internet but I don't see this "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" box on Permissions/Advanced
    popup windows ???
    Could anyone help ?
Change the permissions on the relevant keys configuring the Group Policy Client service to allow Full Control to Administrators
Open regedit (Start > type regedit in the search box) and navigate to:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\gpsvc
Right-click the registry key and choose Permissions.
    Click Advanced, then click Owner.
Choose Administrators and check the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects box.
Exit the permissions dialog and then open it again.
Click Advanced, then choose Administrators and click
    Edit…
Check Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object.
    Click OK and confirm; exit.
    Thank you,

    Hello CarLover,
Based on my test, the option Replace owner on subcontainers and objects exists in Windows 7, but doesn’t exist in Windows 8.1.
Please take a look at the screenshot about the option in Windows 7.

  • Do App Tabs and Tab Groups maintain an active connection with the websites they represent?

I really like the concept behind App Tabs and Tab Groups. I have a few questions, though.
    1. Will I use more memory opening a new window or creating a tab group with the same number of tabs? I am addicted to Alt+Tab and am frequently frustrated by tabs because I have to use the mouse (I don't use ctrl+1,2,3 because I can rarely remember where a given tab is in the sequence). I see there is a shortcut to access the panorama view, so maybe tab groups will work for me. It really is down to which method uses up more memory.
    2. With tab groups, I assume the websites maintain a live connection until you close a tab or a group. This is not like a fancy shortcut, right? Is the same true of App Tabs? We have an unreliable connection speed and I am wary of keeping all my apps connected through potentially long periods of non-use.
At any given time, it is not uncommon for me to have 5 or 6 tabs open (per window), but if I use App Tabs, it could bump me up to 20 or more. Since a handful of my "apps" periodically update (fb, twitter, email, pandora, etc), I'm not sure it makes sense to keep them all active. Any thoughts/suggestions/recommendations on the subject are welcome.
    Thanks!
    ~KJ

With the help of information from user, ptressel, in [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1032154#answer-673322 a post here about the existence of sessionstore.js when version 33 was released], I was able to easily recover my tabs and tab groups as follows:
    # close Firefox and, perhaps, allow a few seconds (30s?) for any final closing of files;
    # check to see if you have a sessionstore.js file in your profile folder, named like the one I documented in my original post above;
    # if it is not timestamped prior to the discovery of your problem, open the sessionstore-backups folder;
    # check if the recovery.js file is suitably timestamped and, if not, the recovery.bak.
    # At this point, you are likely to find that none of them are prior to your problem occuring. If so, open your backups of this folder and go through steps 2-4 to find a file prior to your problem occuring.
    # When you find a file, copy it to the root of your current profile folder and name it, "sessionstore.js"
    # Open Firefox. Mine opened up as desired.
This is a Windows solution. Sorry I can't comment on other platforms, but I'd bet that as this is just a file copy and renaming, it is likely the same.
For Windows users, you may find you need to sign out and login as an administrator in order to access the backups. You need not logoff your standard account, but do have Firefox closed as described above.
    Hope that helps.

  • App-V Server : Changing Connection Group Name through powershell.

    Hi,
Is it possible to change the name of existing Connection group through powershell  ?
I've tried using Set-AppvServerConnectionGroup but i was unable to change the name of existing group.
    Thanks,

    Do this:
    $group = Get-AppvServerConnectionGroup -Name "Connection Group A"
    $group.name = "Connection Group B"

  • After restarting i get a message saying that Windows could not connect to the Group policy client service

The message i get is the following:
Windows could not connect to the Group policy client service. This problem prevents limited users from logging on to the system As and administrative user you can review the system event log for details why the service didn't respond.
This happens after restarting my laptop. It takes longer than usual and once it has booted up and loaded Windows Vista, I get the message on the right bottom corner as a window popping up.
I can still use my computer but a lot of my user account settings are not there.
I fixed it temporarily by rebooting using the option: boot up using my last successful configuration. Bu once I restart again the same thing happens.

  • APP-V 5.0 SP3 Connection Group error

    Hi there,
After the upgrade whenever I try to publish a connection group this fails. It's a newly created connection group with 2 global published applications (which worked in app-v 5.0 sp1).

    Hi there,

    Hi,
    I have a Oracle 7.3.3 Server running on a SCO OpenSever 5.0.5 and a Oracle 8i Client 8.1.6.0.0 on a RedHat Linux 6.2.
When I try to connect from the client to the server by issue command "sqlplus user@test", it responses me "Error while trying to retrieve text for error ORA-03113". But when I run "netasst" to test the connection, it says the connection was sucessful.

    Hi,
I don't have a 64 bit instance, but maybe another test will be usefull, try to get a connection with sqlplus on the server but via sqlnet like "user/passwd@tnsentry" I think if that also is not possible it is not the 64 bit issue but more that the listener itself coundn't etsablish a db connection, be aware tnsping is only testing if the listener is running and do not check if the listener is able to connect to the db.
Hope this helps a little to find your real proble ;-), Olaf

  • Messages.app no longer connects to Jabber after App Store auto-installed Remote Desktop Update 3.8.2

Messages.app no longer connects to my company's Jabber server after App Store auto-installed Remote Desktop Update 3.8.2 (even though I never purchased that app). The Remote Desktop app can not be found anywhere on my machines.
I suspect the Remote Desktop update because Messages stopped connecting on my office MB Air after the update but still worked on my home iMac. Next day the iMac received the update and Messages stopped connecting on that machine too.
Messages attempts to connect for several minutes (it's been trying for 30 mins as I type this) and just hangs. Occasional I get the following error message:
Error: Messages lost the connection to the Jabber account 'account'. A network error occurred.
    I've tried:
    - Deleting and recreating the Jabber account in Messages.app
    - Toggling on/off SSL (SSL required by our server)
    - Toggling on/off auto detect server and port (port 5222 on our server)
    - Deleting every plist, cache, etc., I could find in the Library for any IM client I've ever used
    - Checked that Keychain trusts the Jabber server SSL certificate (it is a self signed cert)
    - Tried connecting from three completely different networks including the company VPN
    - Multiple PRAM resets
    - Setup a Google Talk account in Messages - works fine
    I'm at a loss...

I installed and setup Adium. Adium works but Messages.app still does not connect to Jabber.

I tried with signing out from VPN before shutting down machine, I even switched off WiFi but machine still hung. If i tried to get GP results before shutting down machine it takes ages and it is stuck in "Getting the user name" stage.
Gpupdate /force never updates policy (It stops at Updating Policy...). I tired with installing different hotfixes which did not resolve the issue. I never have any
issues with logging in, no GP scripts are applied when user is logging off or on, no roaming profiles. The only issue is when machine needs to be shut down.
I excluded 1 machine from GP and left it on VPN for a few hours, several times. It always shuts down successfully. I applied GP back one by one and the one which is presumably causing an issue is Avecto which adds admin rights when VPN application
    starts (event 100):
Process started with admin rights added to token.
     Command Line: "C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Juniper Networks\Setup Client\JuniperSetupClient.exe"

I guess there is a DNS issues when machine is on VPN which leads that GP cannot be applied / updated. Not sure if or why Avecto would have an impact on this. When machine is trying to shut down it still somehow thinks it is connected to DC. What
I also noticed are several explorer crashes while machine is on VPN.
Does anyone have same issues? All machines are Dell with Juniper NC (VPN).
    Thanks,

    Hi,
According to event log, Winlogon process takes a long time to handle logoff event. That's to say winlogon process is waiting for response to logoff.
According to your description after, this problem is most probably caused by Avecto. You can try to disable or uninstall it temporarily for test.
To make further troubleshoot with this problem, you can try to use WPT (Windows Performance Tool) to make troubleshoot.

  • Group Policy Client service does not start

    Hi,
As soon as I (administrator on my PC) logon to Windows 7, I get a message saying that the Group Policy Client service failed to start. I'm not sure why I'm getting this error even though the dependencies are very much up and running..
Below is the error message I get in the notification area as soon as I logon
Failed to connect to a windows service
Windows could not connect to the Group Policy Client service. This problem prevents stndard users from logging on to the system.
As an administrative user, you can review the System Event Log for details about why the service didn't respond.

I FOUND SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM!
The crash of your computer caused that - you are absolutely right!
It looks like during reboot a vital registry settings were lost during
crash and Group Policy Client "don't know" how to start.
Video walkthrough for those who are not very technical is here: http://youtu.be/4m5KEmckWK4
I am so relieved I was able to fix it, and hope this will help others with the similar issue.
