App-V Dependent Applications

Hi,
we are using SCCM 2012 sp1 cu5 on Windows 2008 R2, one primary (it is also the MP) with many DPs.
We have sequenced our applications using App-V 4.6 sp1, and for some applications we have mandatory dependencies as specified in the OSD.
I am deploying the App-V applications in the same way as I have always deployed MSI applications.
I create the applications and add the dependent applications to the primary application (I don't worry about the order they are installed in, I just add dependencies and I guess it looks at the osd to install them on the client). The user is then added to
the AD security group for the primary appv package which is advertised.
This seems to work ok for many apps I have tested. However, I get some that try to install and then fail with a message in the appenforce.log which says a CheckdependentPackages() failed and  "Mandatory dependent package {A.....}
is not installed ont he client, so we cannot install this Appv package [Appname].
The apps are all linked as dependencies, so I thought they would just be called and installed as normal.
I'm just wondering if I'm missing something i.e. does the dependency need to be a specific order (same as in osd?) or do I need to create AD security groups for every package and add the user to it?, (i.e. does it use the AD group as permissions that the
user is allowed to install the app-v app?)
When I use another system (not in the above SCCM scenario) which uses the Appv management Server to load appv apps for citrix thin clients, I create a group for each app, since it does use the group as permission to be able to install and
load the appv app.
Just wondering if an SCCM Appv deployment expert could clear this up for me or give me a link to the definitive answer.

Jaz

Thanks Narcoticoo, but the question is more around how SCCM deployment handles the dependencies with the Appv Client when they Appv Apps.
The dependencies are all added in SCCM 2012 to the primary appv application which is advertised.
I know SCCM downloads the apps to its client cache and then appv client takes over and copies them to the Appv cache, and the appv client loads them.
Has anyone else had the error above: "Mandatory dependent package {A.....} is not installed on the client, so we cannot install this Appv package [Appname], even though I have listed the app as a dependency in SCCM?
I would have thought, that since it is listed as a dependency in SCCM then SCCM would pass this information on to the Appv client and it would just publish the shortcuts if didn't exist.
Any real world experience of this would be really helpful

I'm in the same boat as you -- except that I manage both a school lab (volunteer job) and macs in the enterprise (pay job).  What I think we need is the Education Volume Purchasing Program
    http://www.apple.com/education/volume-purchase-program/faq.html
Unfortunately this all seems a little rough around the edges -- for example, I have found updates for AppStore apps on the support.apple.com updates download site, but then when I install them via ARD they don't actually update the software.  (The AppStore icons still show as needing the updates, and the version info reports the old version.)  The documentation is also vague about which AppleID to use in which circumstance.  I think they just haven't finished thinking through the implications of the various procedures and policies upon the various kinds of customers.  When we deployed Mountain Lion on the school lab, we made an install usb and went around and installed it on each computer -- and it appears that you are on the honor system as far as paying for all of the licenses that you install.  We did!  But they appear to have no way to enforce it.
So far, I have only deployed 9 Lion macs in my day job, and our "solution" to the AppStore showing updates problem has been to drag the AppStore icon off of the users' docks so they don't see them!

We have developed a desktop application using Flash software and published the same for MAC environment. When we double click on the index.app file, the application is working perfectly in Mac 10.6.7 at our office. But if the same index.app file is double clicked in Mac 10.6.7 at out clients location, its not opening. For your information the client is able to open this same application by double clicking on index.swf file. The main problem is that client is not able to open the application using index.app file at their office whereas we are able to do so at our office. Can anyone give some suggestions to sort this problem?

The most common reason is different versions of Flash, or different versions of web browsers used.  Some users may elect to not have Flash installed at all because of the processor overhead of Flash.  If you are going to make an application for a client, check what operating system and browser versions they are using first.  Then determine if a stand alone application is required, or if they have the necessary plugins to run specific browser enhanced code.
P.S. MAC is an acronym for Media Access Control.  Mac is the shorthand for Macintosh, the operating system and computers made by Apple Inc.

Reminders is automatically installed with 10.8 or above. A new Mac should have 10.9; it's possible that, with a third-party vendor, you have an earlier OS. Check under the Apple menu in the top left and click About This Mac. That will tell you what version of OS X you have.

in app store some applications are of very small size like 15-20 Mb and after installing them they become more than 100 mb. how to determine their actual size???

The app store size is probably just the software, while the size on your iPhone includes data.
You can determine the size on your iPhone by looking at Settings > General > Usage.

Boot in safe mode.* This will cause certain caches maintained by the system to be rebuilt. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
Safe mode is much slower to boot than normal.
When the login screen appears, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and test. There's no need to log in while in safe mode.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.

    Hi Uri,
    What OS you are using?
Lightroom CC won’t be shown in the Creative Cloud desktop application if your system doesn’t meet the minimum system requirements. It’s likely you are on a system with Mac OS 10.7 or earlier, or a 32-bit version of Windows 7 or 8. If you system meets the minimum requirements, try signing out and back into the Creative Cloud application and see if the Apps panel updates.
Please let me know if this is not the case.

  • "Firefox.app" is an application which was downloaded from the Internet...

This is a topic that has been posted before but I'm creating a new one because the previous discussion is closed and none of the answers solved my problem.
Each and every time I launch Firefox, I receive the following warning, - “Firefox.app” is an application which was downloaded from the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it?"
For the record, I have tried the following fixes with no success:
    - Removed the Firefox folder from user/library/application support both as a user and as an admin.
    - I logged in to the Mac as an admin. and launched Firefox. The message continues to pop up after doing this, while still logged in as admin.
    - I logged in to the Mac as an admin, went to Terminal and listed the attributes. The "com.apple.quarantine" attribute does exist, however, when I tried removing it with (xattr -d com.apple.quarantine <FILE NAME>), I am told that the attribute DOESN'T exist. Huh?
I am trying to avoid completely removing Firefox and doing a fresh install but it may come down to this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

I had a similar problem with another application. I downloaded an update to an application from the developer, and then got this message every time I ran the program. There's a script to disable this behavior entirely on MacWorld's macosxhints site.
I didn't want to disable this behavior for good, just for this one program. I realized that I had downloaded it as one user, but the first use (of the update) was as a different user. I logged in under the user ID that I used when I downloaded the application and ran the program. After that, the warning went away.
My guess is that you did something similar. Log in as the user ID you used when you first downloaded the updated FireFox and run the program. The warning should go away.
If you can't remember which user ID you used, try the brute force approach - log in as each of your user IDs and run FireFox.
    Good luck!
