App-V Management server 5.0: deploy to pc?

Hi,
In App-V 4.6 management server, we deploy to users, I cannot see an option there either to deploy to computers (the tab “Access permissions” shows “Add and select the user groups”). Now we don’t have App-V 5.0 management server yet but
we do have SCCM 2012 with App-V (not liking the integration at all, specifically for the reason of unpublishing App-v packages:
http://henkhoogendoorn.blogspot.be/2013/07/configmgr-2012-sp1-with-app-v-50.html). So my question: can you deploy App-V packages with App-v 5.0 management server to computers? If no, is it documented somewhere?
Thanks.
J.

Hi Jan,
Yes you can use the App-V 5.0 Management Server to publish to computers aswell as users. The Management server console supports specifying a computer group for targeting. Make sure you enable global publishing on the client side too:

  • App-v management server or SCCM 2012 integration?

    Hi,
We are using App-V 5.0 integrated within SCCM 2012 for a while now but aren't happy with it.
Hope was that in some update of sccm 2012 it would improve but it does not. That's why the idea arises to use the Ap-V management server again.
Below a comparison of the two options, I was wondering what your opinion on this matter is.
    App-V via SCCM 2012:
    Pro:
    Full integration with SCCM 2012
    Contra:
Dependency on SCCM 2012 client (when SCCM client doens’t work, App-V doesn’t work either)
Slow responstimes before package arrives at user (SCCM needs to scan AD groups, SCCM client needs a policy refresh)
    App-V Management server:
    Pro:
Deploy is also possible to computers as from App-V 5.0 management server
    http://virtualvibes.co.uk/enabling-computer-based-targeting-in-app-v-5-0/
“the fact that we can now target machines instead of users when publishing packages”
    Fast respsonsetime: deploy & uninstall
Automatic uninstall when user/computer isn’t member of AD group anymore
    Contra:
    Extra server needed
Note: the migration from SCCM to the App-V Management server should be transparent, right? Unpublish existing packages via SCCM, publish via management server
    Please advise.

How many data centres and sites are these RDS servers and desktops deployed across?

  • App-v management server

    Hi,
Anybody works with app-v management server?
Does it work the same way as App-v 4.6 management server? I preferred that concept: deploy an application to a user: it appears, remove it from a group: it dissapears.
App-v 5.0 with sccm 2012 (which we use now) lacks this possibility which I fail to understand.
Can we intergrate the management server with SCCM 2012?
    Pls advise.
    J.

I believe apps are removed automatically when using the management server.
SCCM however does not. There is a workaround however:
    http://www.vroom.cc/wordpress/index.php/uninstall-appv-5-0-package-automatically-from-an-user-based-collection
And a slightly different (better?) way:

  • Deploying BEA Portal App in Managed Server problems....

    Hello,
I have a BEA portal application (exploded EAR) that I want to deploy in a managed server. I first created a regular portal domain (8.1 SP4). I then created a managed server via the console. When I went to deploy my portal application (in the console), I received an error indicating that the application was a Split Development Directory and that I would have to run the wlpackage Ant task against the application first. I ran the wlpackage ant task and it seemingly worked.
I then used the wldeploy Ant task to deploy it in the managed server but got an error indicating that it could not find a JNDI name from one of the data sources. I went back to the console and targeted/deployed all of the default Connection Pools & Data Sources to the managed server thinking that was the reason the deploy failed.
When I ran the wldeploy again I got the following error:
Module: content.jar Error: Exception activating module: EJBModule(content.jar, status=PREPARED)
Unable to deploy EJB: ValueBean from content.jar
    java.sql.SQLException: javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: While trying to lookup 'portalFrameworkPool; contentDataSource;weblogic.jdbc.jts.commercialPool' didn't find subcontext 'portalFrameworkPool;contentDataSource;weblogic' Resolved ; remaining name 'portalFrameworkPool;contentDataSource;weblogic/jdbc/jts/commercialPool'
Has anyone run into this? Am I not suppose to deploy a portal application in a managed server?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks - Peter Len

    Problem solved.......
After targeting all the data sources and poolers to the managed server, I restarted the main domain but did not restart the managed server. After restarting the managed server all was well.
    Thanks - Peter

  • OSB deployment on managed server

    Hello,
We have a OSB clustered environment where managed servres and admin server reside on separate machines. OSB admin server does not have access to database (The architecture does not allow Admin server to connect to DB). As far as my understanding OSB applications/projects have to be targeted on Admin server for deployment even the SB console is accessible via admin server.
How can we use the Oracle OSB WLST deployment scripts for target on the managed servers currently this works only when pointed to the Admin sserver.
If WLSTscript is pointed to the managed server the deployment script throws exception stating 'cannot start Mbean server'
Your help on this greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    P

    Hi Prashant,
OSB apps don't have to be necessary targeted to Admin server. In our project OSB apps are targeted to OSB managed server.
I think reason why you can't deploy it in your case is that there are no OSB components deployed in Admin server. Those components are
deployed to admin server during the installation even if you choose install OSB to separate OSB managed server (they are deployed to both admin and OSB managed servers). I think that's OSB design issue.
During our deployment we recreate domain including OSB apps every time from scratch. It works fine.

  • Auto-Deployment and Restarting Managed Server

    Hi,
We are using WebLogic Server 7.0 SP2 on Solaris 8. Yesterday, a developer copied
over a new WAR file into the applications directory. Then he ried to restart the
managed server. This appeared to hang, so he tried restarting the admin. server,
which also failed. Looking at the log, it looks like the admin. server is trying
to deploy apps. from the applications/backup directory.
After I removed the backup directory and edited config.xml to remove all references
to this directory, I was able to startup the Admin. server (though there were
still some errors; see later) and the managed server.
The servers are actually running in "developemnt" mode and have the Aut-Deploy
feature enabled, so my theory is that the auto-deployment was conflicting with
the managed server restart. He shouldn't have had to restart the managed server

The short answer to your question is that auto-deployment and multiple
    servers don't mix.
If you have a single-server domain and choose to use auto-deployment,
    that'll work fine.
Once you have separate admin/managed servers, you need to use
weblogic.Deployer, the wldeploy ant task (8.1), or the console to deploy
    applications.

Can you note that the it was fine when deployment was done to admin server.
I am not sure whether i have set up the managed server instance in the proper way. This is what i did to set up managed server instance before deployment
    (1) create weblogic domain
    (2) create managed server listening at port 8001. (admin is at 7001)
    (3) created machine and in the node manager added the managed server to the machine just created.
    (4) started node manager through script, started admin server and started managed server by
    startManagedWebLogic.cmd managedserver admin_url
=> No errors so far. but now when i try to deploy portal application to managed server instance, it fails.
    Any pointers???

don't worry about this. i have resolved this by deploying into a cluster. looks like BEA doesn't support non-clustered deployment to managed server instances.

Is it have to do with the Deployment profile ? or any Data Control Issue ?

    Thanks Guys,
You won't believe if I say the issue because of a minute error.
for some reason the AMImpl.xml and its class files were getting created in different directory where as the DataControl was referencing the different directory, when I changed the proper directory for classes files to generate things started to work fine.
As long as the creating the deployment profile, I think I did right. So all is fine at my end.. thanks for your links, it was really helpful though.
    Thanks

  • Partition not found- While deploying to managed server

We are using 11gR1. We have configured a soa managed server. While deploying Sales demo application in BPM Studio, we set up connection to the Admin Server and when we test the connection it is successful. During the last step of deployment, where the SOA managed server is prompted, SOA server is listed properly but we get a message saying that partition is not available.
We went to EM and found that there is a default partition, we also created a new partition and restarted both the servers. But still we face the same error. The Log gives the following information:
    <Error> <RepositoryPartitionModel.class> <BEA- 000000> <Getting Partitions>
Is this a product bug or are we missing out on anything.
    Venkat

    Hi venkat,
I am also having the same problem. Were you able to find out the solution for this issue. I currently manually deploy the GUI EAR from the admin console and the SAR file from the EM.
    Thanks,

  • Migrate osb deployment from Admin Server to Managed Server

    Hi,
I had create the OSB Development environment.
Configuration was such that OSB was deployed to Admin Server.
However, I have a new requirement, wish to deploy OSB to a Managed Server and no longer Admin Server, to reduce the load on Admin Server and for future high availability plans.
I have created a Managed Server for OSB deployment. I was of the opinion that I should just simply use the console for deploying OSB to the newly created Managed Server.
However, I seemed to have missed some steps and therefore OSB was not working.
    Kindly help me.

About expected results from such db migration, I can only say that because all IDM objects (forms, wf, customizations etc) are stored on its waveset db, at the end of db migration, you should have same functionalities. Obviously you need to change (with lhconsole) the db iDM should refer to. This information is stored in a special (encrypted) xml file.
HTHAnd don't forget that you also need to replace your JDBC driver (jar file) with the oracle JDBC driver and ensure it is in the classpath that LH and the appserver need.

  • Managed server independence mode startup : VERY slow (2h~)

    Hello there,
I'm posting this thread to ask for some help.
In my production environnement, where I am running a cluster of several ALSB nodes, a problem showed up when a network card was unplugged on our admin server hardware.
You have to know that for some reason, we are not using a node manager for our admin operations on the managed servers, but rather scripts that are scheduled by a tool we use for several other things (backup,etc..). This tool runs WLST scripts to do some basic stuff on our servers.
So, during the shutdown/startup process, when we tried to bring back all the managed servers up, we faced this problem : When the managed servers were not able to contact the admin server, the startup process takes approx 2 hours, but only 10min when admin server is up and running. This is a real problem in our high availibility environnement, if we have to face this "no admin server" situation again.
    My environnement is :
    Weblogic 10.0
    Solaris 10.6.0
Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM Version 1.5.0_16-b02

If you have any input for me to use, I would be very thankful.
And by the way, please excuse me for my poor english (french here ^^)
    Best regards,
    Serge

As a test, I shutdown my admin server and then killed the managed server from the command line so that node manager would start it ( and not be able to find the admin server ).
I'm using WL 10.3.3 ( 11g + OSB + SOA ) on oracle linux (64bit) and the managed server started in 3 minutes.
So I tried the same in my 10g environment WL 10.3 running OSB 10g ( oracle linux 32-bit ) and the server started in 2 minutes.
I see a couple of times when your trace shows a pause:

In my test, the "user password credential" message was preceded by messages about the Singleton Marker applications. Are the singleton apps deployed to this server, or to some other managed server? If they are deployed to some other managed server, are they deployed to a managed server on the same host as the (unreachable) admin server?

Then try starting that managed server while the Admin server is down, and also try restarting another managed server ( which is not on the admin server's host and is not targetted by the Singleton applications. )
I suspect the managed server with the singleton apps will start more quickly than the one without.

  • How to setup WebLogic Admin Server and Managed Server

    Hi,
I working to setup a Weblogic admin and managed server but fail.
May i know the correct steps to setup the system ?
    Tx.

TX. I will proceed to upload more logs here later.
Anyway I notice that after i follow the guide to setup the admin and managed server, I only able to access the web apps on admin server. I can not access web apps for managed server.
I setup the admin server using port 7001 and managed server using port 7003 based on oracle guide.
I found weird here. when I browse to http://adminserver:7001/apps, it works. But when i browse to http://managedserver:7003/apps it does not work.
But funny thing is when i browse to http://adminserver:7003/apps, it works.
I confuse that which configuration I have done is incorrect and have this result???
besides that I notice that in the nodemanager setting...the listening address is set to localhost and it works. If i configure it to IP address, it will give me errors.

  • Problem: Deploy a web app from a managed server - Can someone answer:  Is this a bug?!

We're running 6.0sp2 on both AIX and RedHat. Deploying or redeploying
a web app to the managed server fails, works fine on the Admin server.
War's work fine in the 'applications' dir. The browser fails with a

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Yes..it's a bug. I had the same problem and it has been reported to support
but no indication if it's fixed.

  • Error while deploying to Production Managed Server

My setup is one Domain, one AdminServer, one Managed Server all running in Production Mode.. The AdminServer:7001 and ManagedServer:7003 are on the same box.
I can deploy my app and hit it via a web service on AdminServer:7001 but I can't hit is on the ManagedServer:7003.
What happens is I tell the ODSI Admin Console to target the application to either ManagedServer or ManagedServer and AdminServer. Doing this put's the ManagedServer into an Admin STANDBY mode, lists the following error, and remains in an UNKNOWN state. I eventually have to shut the ManagedServer down and start it again.
The server is running on the latest version of Oracle Mission Control 3.1.0 with the version of JRockit that's in there (1.6.0_11 R27.6.3).
I mean, I'd rather not run the application on the AdminServer. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to look into to try to trouble shoot this issue??
