App version of Skype won't sign in

For some reason the Skype app on my install of Windows 8.1 Enterprise will not sign me in. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it a couple of times.
I've tried the steps outlined here: http://community.skype.com/t5/Modern-Windows-for-users-on/Oops-there-was-a-problem-Please-restart-Skype-or-try-again/m-p/1271790/highlight/true#M3388 I tried sfc /scannow still no luck.
Still can't get it to sign in for some reason. My login works just fine for the desktop app, but I like being able to snap the Skype app to the side of a monitor for chatting, but for the life of me I can't figure out why it won't sign in.
It just sits there attempting to sign in for roughly 3 minutes and then fails with Oops...There was a problem, please restart Skype or Try Again. Any further ideas on this?

Then why the heck do you still have it on the store like it works? And why just a generic "Something went wrong" error message than having it say "we can't sign you in because this version of Skype has been deprecated"? I wasted four and a half hours this morning troubleshooting this because nobdoy at Microsoft stopped and thought to have the common courtesty to maybe have an actually informative error message about the failed sign in and remove the non-working application from the Microsoft Store.
Jeez, and here I was thinking Microsoft was a professional company that cared about end user experience. Nope, they just leave you with a cryptic error message making you think it's something wrong on your side rather than the truth...
Also, thank you so much for removing wonderful features that worked without any problems whatsoever before. I don't know what I would have done had I been able to keep using Skype conveniently...
And that isn't even to mention how it breaks the People app too. It has your Skype contacts in there, but now since Skype doesn't work when you go in there and tell it to IM or call someone it just goes "durr, I don't know what to do."
If you're going to change a workflow like that, at least tell the other places that rely on the Moden Skype app to gracefully redirect to the new worflow.

Try to reset all Skype settings.
Quit Skype or use Windows Task Manager to kill any Skype.exe process. Go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %appdata% and then press Enter or click the OK button. The Windows File Explorer will pop up. There locate a folder named “Skype”. Rename this folder to something different, e.g. Skype_old.
Next go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %temp%\skype and then press Enter or click the OK button. Delete the DbTemp folder.
    Restart Skype.
N.B. If needed, you will still be able to re-establish your call and chat history. All data is still saved in the Skype_old folder.

  • Skype won't sign in on Windows 8.1

So every time I try to sign in to Skype on Windows 8.1 using the desktop version or the app version, it freezes on Signing In. I've tried compatibility mode, and it works fine on my phone, but I can't get it working on my computer. I upgraded to 8.1 from 8, by the way. And Skype launches in literally two seconds on my phone. I would really appreciate help with this.

By the way, I mean it freezes on the blue "Signing in" screen and the animation just goes on forever.

  • My Skype Won't Sign In?

My skype is stuck on the sign in screen everytime I open Skype, can anyone help?
    Running on Windows Vista.

What exactly is the version of Skype installed on your computer? In Skype go to Help -> About Skype.
What is the version of Internet Explorer installed on your computer?
In Internet Explorer go to Help -> About Internet Explorer.
P.S. Please, don’t say that you are not using Internet Explorer. This is irrelevant. Skype depends on Internet Explorer.

  • Skype won't sign in.

When ever I try to sign in with my account with skype, it sticks at the moving circle, then it says Skype can't connect.
    I've tried

    >Installing a old version of Skype.

I can sign in using my phone, but not with my PC, Can anyone please assist me?

Same here. I have to kill the process in order to stop it.
Once I've killed the process, if I reinstall, it logs in. So now, every time I want to start the program (whether by reboot or by exiting and then opening again), I have to kill the process and reinstall with the latest version in order to login.

About an hour or so ago, I had logged off skype and went to go do something. After coming back and attempting to sign in, I can no longer sign in and I just get a spinning circle that won't do anything saying "signing in". I have checked my Firewall settings and Anti-Virus settings (I dont use Norton or McAfee, they are bad honestly). Ive even deleted Skype out of Roaming files, reinstalled twice, and nothing works.

I have the same problem, help anyone?

  • Kindle Fire - Skype won't sign in

Hi hope someone can help, I sideloaded Skype to my kindle fire and installed it, however, it just keeps saying 'signing in' and nothing else happens. I only want voice calls, so the video is immaterial. If some kind soul could give me some advice I would be very grateful.

  • My Macbook pro 10.5.8 will not download the new version of skype

I am abroad at the moment - suddenly Skype cut out, informing me that the version was outdated.  I need skype to operate for my work -  the new version of skype won't download...  do I need to upgrade my Macbookpro 10.5.8 now?

    MissDizzy,
not necessarily. You can try running Skype 2.8, which Mac OS X 10.5.8 should be able to use if you add the following line to your /etc/hosts file:
    127.0.0.1       ui.skype.com
(The whitespace between the “1” and the “ui” should be a single tab character.)
If you’d rather not use an older version of Skype and edit one of your system files, you could instead purchase the white retail Snow Leopard DVD and install Snow Leopard onto your MacBook Pro, run Software Update to get it updated to Mac OS X 10.6.8, and then see if you can download and run the latest version of Skype.
If the latest version of Skype doesn’t run under Mac OS X 10.6.8, you could then download either Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks from the Mac App Store (which will be available to you once you have Mac OS X 10.6.8 installed), install the newer OS, and run Software Update again to get up to date. (Note that if you have an Early 2006 MacBook Pro, you’ll only be able to upgrade to Snow Leopard; if you have a Late 2006 model, you can only upgrade up to Lion. Lion and Mountain Lion are not gratis; Mavericks is gratis. If you upgrade past Snow Leopard, then you might need more RAM to run well.)

  • Skype desktop won't sign in

    Hello,
I used the skype desktop version just a few weeks ago and tonight I went to use it and it would NOT sign in.  It just says signing in with the white circle thing going constantly and NEVER ending or signing in.  I use the desktop version as it has the text box for typing text while chating with friends it also allows me to use Skype recorder so that I can do interviews for a podcast.  But for whatever reason It simply will not sign in.  The Windows 8 app version works but I don't really like that version as the desktop is better PLEASE help.

Thanks for this mha007 - I can now open FF with a new profile. Can I copy my settings from the old profile or will this bring over the same problem, maybe a corrupt file. If it would bring the same problem, is there any way I can check which file is corrupt, apart from taking them over one by one?

  • When attempting to install Apps such as skype or whatsapp, prompted to advise a parrent to sign in.

    Hi,
I have a Nokia Lumia 520 phone. When I attempt to install apps such as skype or whatsapp, prompted to advise a parent to sign in.
To be sure, I place my birthday as of year 2001 for convienient sake. But I began to think that it could be this reason I was prompted to ask an adult to sign in. However, after I manage to change my birthday I was still prompted to ask an adult to sign
in so that I can install the apps.
Please advise what is the issue? Should I reset factory settings?
    Thank you.
    Joshua

    Hi,
Yes the problem is because of our birth date issue itself.
One option is to link this account with any existing MS account like a family, which is done in case of actual minors using it. But it will give problems later to download Apps since you not are logged in as adult.
Try disconnecting from MS account as stated
here and then connect to a new account. I dint tried it but it should work.
Or factory reset (settings->about->reset) is the option AFAIK.
    Shan_k.

The Early 2011 MacBook Pro shipped with Snow Leopard, so these are not the Mac App Store versions of iLife, they are the boxed software versions.
If they are in an iWork '09 folder take them out and let them loose in the Apps folder. Then reindex your HDD.
