App World Search - Virtual Good Titles

Can someone tell me if the App World search takes into account virtual good titles? I don't believe it does, but I just wanted to check.
Thanks

  • How does App World search work?

    Hi!
I've realized that the only way to appear in search results is with app name words.
It does not matter what your description or short description is, only words in app name are taken in account.
This means you can not name your app with only a "name" as it will not be shown by any search terms.
    Am i true?
This is awfull! I have apps that should be found by some keywords and I can not put all of them in the name.
It would very usefull to have a keywords field on app settings.
My apps for Playbook: PlayEpub Book Reader with epub and FB2 support, Google Reader, ReaditLater - Net Files Share Explorer Get access to your network shared files- FFSync Sync your Firefox bookmarks and passwords

    Go to Solution.

Your findings are correct, the search currently works only on the title of the app.
I was talking to one of the AppWorld reps at BlackBerry 10 Jam about this and similar AppWorld issues.
e.g. I was looking to download "MorphWiz-Play" but I only recalled the app name included the word "Play" so I searched on that... several hundred un-related apps came back because many apps labeled themselves as "Something for BlackBerry PlayBook".
Since BlackBerry 10 will run many of the apps currently in AppWorld for the PlayBook... the additional "suffix" of " for BlackBerry PlayBook" is going to become both misleading and innaccurate.  The rep indicated that there were several changes coming to address this... as well as the search in general.
Reading between the lines, I gathered that the current search on the title only was due to many developers using "keyword stuffing" in their app descriptions, which again makes the search results useless.
As for what the "next" search strategy is exactly... I don't know... but I'd like it to be something like:
Strip off the suffix on all apps that are "Something for BlackBerry PlayBook"
Change the search to run against both the app title and the description
Weigh the results such that matches in the title are higher than those matches in the description
As it is currently... matches for apps with both "keyword A" AND "keyword B" weigh more than results that match on "keyword A" OR "keyword B"... it is important that this is not lost when enabling search on descriptions
At the same time, it would be nice to try and handle the keyword stuffing issue as well... I'm not sure if this should be done when approving app descriptions (e.g. strip out obvious stuffing) or as part of the AppWorld query... where descriptions stuffed with keywords rank lower... e.g. stop abuse/gaming of the system.

  • Can't get past account information in App World

I have tried everything but it just doesn't work.
After I sign in it takes me right to my account information but then I can't get past that screen..its like an infinite loop.
Having a balckberry without being able to use app world sucks. I'm tired of downloading everything ota
PLEASE help! I will be eternally at your debt

Darn -- that is exactly what it should do. If you could then navigate to MyWorld, it would present a screen saying it is resynchronizing with the AppWorld Servers, and this process has been known to clear up many other issues. Rats...
See if this is helpful or at least correctly indicative of your symptoms:

This error may be happening because of any third party application that you have Installed on your device , You can try removing those applications one by one to see if that resolves the issue .
Or do a backup of your device and perform a Clean OS Reload of your device software , Check this Knowledge Base for futher help.

  • Blackberry Z10 App World Disappointment

I just upgraded from by BB 9860 to the Z10.  My world has been tossed UPSIDE DOWN.  I lost a lot of valuble apps that simplified my life and that was helpful.  I am in tears lately!!!!!!
    1)  Bank of America App - I am trying to surface the web on my phone will driving to find out my balance for the day
    2) Shazam Music Identifier - I spend 2 hours in traffic 5 days a week and I use this to find out the title and artist of the songs i may not know, then download them from Amazon.com
    3) Amazon Music Service - need I say more! I can't dowload music from AMAZON!!!!
    4) Screen Grabber by Jared -  HUGE usage out of this app!  I do not have a way of sharing my screen with anyone!!!!!
    5) Pandora is Now Apollo - SMH WTH!
    6) Google - I use to be able to just press the G on my phone GOOGLE would appear!
    7) AT&T TeleNavigator - BBM Maps suck!  So does WisePilot, so does the other funny looking Airplane dapp too!
    8) Never EVER had instagram, but I would like to keep up with Iphone and Andriod Users...Go figure!
This is awful way to release this awesome phone.  I have emailed all of the app makers to beg them to develop this apps ASAP.  I am trying very hard to support the BlackBerry but the app world might be the last straw.

    amini123, hold back those tears!
You can create a screen shot easily by pressing the up and down volume keys simulataneously.
The NEW BlackBerry Maps is just as good and even better in many ways than ATT Navigator. I have used both. I have compared. You'll be surprised how well BB Maps is now on the Z10... and FREE. Tell what ATT Nav does that BBMaps does not?
Instagram is coming, and is even available now by sideloading, not too difficult at all if you want to do so.
    Apollo? So?
Google? The search engine? Still there just open your browser and you can set Google as your default search engine. One touch to open the browser and google away!
Shazam, I know there's a new app which does the same, can't think of the name of it.
not sure about the others, let's what other users may know.

  • How do I get rid of BB App World Notification?

I just got my BB last night, so I'm very new to this, but I did the update on the BB App World, and there were some apps that I did not want (such as Yahoo Messenger) that it kept coming up that there was an update available for... so I uninstalled those apps... but the Black Berry App World notification keeps coming up saying that there are updates available for those apps. Do I HAVE to reinstall and update them, even if I don't want to ever use them? It's annoying that it shows up with my new messages all the time.
Sorry if these are stupid questions, only had the BB for less than a day!
Update* I reinstalled the apps, and the notifications are still there... and I click on them, and updating isn't an option anymore... just Reviews, Recommend, & Screenshots... I can't get rid of it!

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
From your post, I can't quite tell where this notification is coming up. If it's on your homescreen (at the top, where the VM, new message, etc. notifications show), then the resolution will be different. Check this image for what that notification will look like:
If it is indeed that one, then you need to find, in your Messages, a message from AppWorld -- deal with it (read, delete, etc.) and the notification should go away. If you can't find the messages, then try a search:
KB21879How to search for unread messages on the BlackBerry smartphone
However, if the notification is within MyWorld itself, then the resolution might be different. It's actually quite odd for AppWorld to continue to notify for uninstalled apps...are they actually in the uninstalled section of MyWorld? In any event, try this clearing the AppWorld application cache:
    1. Open App World
    2. Go to My World
3a. For keyboard-based BB's -- Hold down the ALT key and then press, in sequence R, then S, then T
3b. For Storm/Pearl -- Hold the num-lock (!?123) button so it locks and then press, in sequence 3, then 4, then (
    4. If your BB locks after issuing the cache clear, perform a battery pull reboot
    5. Return to AppWorld. Log into MyWorld (if applicable) and try again.
Hopefully it'll work for you! Good luck and let us know!

  • Download app world: error 905

    hey you all!
i recently got my new blackberry bold 9790 and i used to be quite happy about it until i realized that i can't get any apps...
it all started when i noticed that i couldn't open the installed app world icon on my blackberry. i then uninstalled the programme and wanted to download a new one online. but that doesn't work: i can't download it via usb, so i try it via my mobile phone internet access. the download does start but in the end there's always an error showing up: error 905.
Do you have any ideas to solve my problem and get the app world? Thanks a lot!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!!
I find no reference to "905" in the public KBs...perhaps you can search with more parameters to find something useful:
    http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/microsites/microsite.do
Please try a hard reset: With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
In addition, you can try this sequence:
    1) Remove AppWorld from your BB
KB10040 How to view or remove installed applications on a BlackBerry smartphone
If it requests that you reboot the BB, do so
    2) Do a Batt-Pull reboot (power on, remove battery, wait, insert battery, wait), even if redundant to the one you did in step 1.
    3) Install (on your BB) a fresh copy of AppWorld
    http://blackberry.com/appworld/download
Again, if it requests to reboot, do so.
    4) Do another Batt-Pull reboot
    5) See if it now works.
You may also want to attempt to boot into Safe Mode:
KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode
It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was. You may also want to attempt installing AW while in SAFE mode.
Good luck and let us know!

  • I'm new to Blackberry and I can't download the App World

    Hi all.
I got my new curve 8520 two days ago, and I've been trying to download the app world and it's not been successful.
I can still use the internet to browse, I can use the facebook/twitter/myspace apps but I just can't get to the app world.
Can anyone help me out please?

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Please check this page to ensure you meet the minimum requirements (including if it is available in your country):
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/appworld/download.jsp
If it is available in your country and you feel you meet the device-level system requirements, then contact your carrier to ensure that you meet the service plan (from them) requirements for access (via their network) to AppWorld.
Lastly, do be aware that AppWorld is merely a portal, vending apps developed mainly by others. As such, it is not your exclusive procurement source -- there are others that you can try (e.g., Handango, Handmark, BPlay, GetJAR or Mobihand). I have found that there are very few apps that are exclusive to AppWorld. You can search the on-line catalog and then search out other procurement sources, including quite often the developer website itself.
    Good luck!

  • BB Pearl 8130 "access not allowed!" when trying to download Blackberry App World

Hi, well I am trying to download blackberry app world onto my blackberry pearl 8130 and whenever I try to download it it goes through the language prompts but then goes to a page with "access not allowed" My device software is v4.5, I am currently in Canada, I have the data plan, I can use the internet browser and my carrier is Telus. All help is appreciated, please and thank you!

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
"Access Not Allowed"? Is that the precise and exact message? If not, please do provide the precise message.
Please check this page to ensure you meet the minimum requirements (including if it is available in your country):
