Apparent "Group" bug = record enable

I've got a group of drum channels all assigned to my "Drum" group. In 'Group Settings' I have the 'record enable' box checked, so that I can enable all my drum tracks to record at once.
But Logic 8 "Pro" keeps giving me the error "You cannot record one source to multiple destinations". I've seen this in the past if you have channels set to the same recording input. But that's not the case in my song, and I've triple checked it. I've even created new groups with only 2 channels, and Logic still gives me the same error. Really frustrating. Anyone else seen this or have a suggested workaround?
PS. How do you post pictures here? I made some screen grabs of the error, and the mixer channels to prove that the input settings are different... but I can't find any way to cut n' paste the pics...

Jim Frazier wrote:
I've seen this error also happen when you have multiple copies of a track, that reference the same audio object, as often used for multiple takes. Could that be what's happening?
Thanks Sir Frazier -- that was it! Turns out I was fooled by L8's new "auto channel management" feature in the environment. It had created duplicate copies of my drum tracks, and they were hidden from my current view, which is why I couldn't find them.
I knew something like that had to be going on, because I created a new group with only one track in it, and still got the "same recording input" error message. Only then did I notice the 'H' button on, hiding some formerly unseen drum channels. I'm used to the old L7 environment behavior where Arrange page 'Hide' status doesn't affect the environment display...
Thanks for the assistance! Logic 8 is cleared of yet another unfounded 'bug' accusation! (although there still appears to be a bug with Group editing of takes... but that's another topic)
cheers

  • 10.0.5 update has removed "record enable" button

    Ever since the update I can no longer record any audio with my blue microphones yeti mic. The "record enable" button that is usually visible in the track header area has disappeared even when enabled in track header configuration. I have also messed with the audio preferences settings but cannot get the button to show up. Please help report this bug to apple using the following link!

  • Logic crashes any time I record enable. Also, it won't quit normally. I have force close the application any time I want to quit. What's wrong here?

    From the moment I downloaded Logic it would not quit properly. It won't respond to cmd Q or going to the menu to quit the application. Then when I try to simply record enable a track, the whole thing bugs out and crashes, no matter how many times I restart, same result. This is not how $200 software should act. *** Apple?

    This is an oddity that happens if you upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard.
    Follow the instructions from here.

    Don't delete any more than they say in the article.
    This should help/fix your situation.
    You're right, Apple's software should not behave this way... however, a little background.
    Apple purchased this software at version 5.2 from another company, a highly respected company, it's coast at that time was $999.00, which is what I paid for it, it's professional software. Apple priced it at $499 for several years, when it moved to the app store it was reduced to $199, which is dirt cheap. It's all a matter of perspective.
    p.s. These are user forums, no one from Apple will respond here, or so they say!

  • MIDI on Hardware synth off, but still sounds airy & flanged W record enable

    How do I get the output that I am monitoring on an audio track, with record enable to sound like it normally does when I listen to the output of my synth with headphones?
    Currently, it sounds like there is a cheap flange effect...

    Yes, I tried the first 2 suggestions, but with software monitoring off, I don't hear the synth at all.
    - I tried unplugging the midi cables, but then, because local is off, the syth is playing what the computer is feeding it, via the MIDI input, and it stops sounding the notes pressed when I unplugged the MIDI cables.
    There is basic misunderstanding going on.
    You mentioned recording to an -Audio- track in your first post. If you have Local OFF, you shouldn't hear anything when selecting and monitoring an -audio- track.
    {/quote}
    - I recorded the midi on the midi track. -
    It's actually possible to record-enable more than one track at a time, but in this case, the audio track was not record enabled. - The MIDI goes to the selected midi track, and it was selected.
    The only way I can hear my synth is through logic's monitoring, unless plug headphones into the mono output of the EX7. but that wont fix the issue, as I want to hear everything together... To just get down to making music, I could go through the dread of deleting the doubled over notes, but I don't have time for that.
    What is happening, is that Logic is sending double data to my Synth. I'm pretty sure it's an environment issue.
    Since logic 8 is so easy to rewire with Reason, I have not changed anything in the environment, except ... hmm... Yes I did actually; I created MIDI objects for Reason, to control it via MIDI, to go along with the Rewire. - I set that up correctly, and just experimented with deleting those objects, but the problem persists. I'm looking at the basic MIDI setup in the environment, and it's bare... I have not set up my Synth in there yet apparently. - Perhaps that is the problem.
    Here are some pics I've uploaded to show you what is going on, on my screen:
    http://criticalunity.org/TRASHNOW/
    - Picture 10.png shows that acoording to what I just tested as well; Software instruments triggered with my Synth are still affected, because Logic is recoding the notes 3 times. The prple notes are ones I dragged off, and they were 'one note' before... (supposed to be)
    - Picture 6.png shows the tracks, and how I'm monitoring.
    - Picture 8.png and 9.png show my untouched midi instrument environment.
    {quote}The MIDI setup is another can of worms.
    Here's some quick things to try...
    Did you setup cabling to your MIDI interface and Keyboard in AUDIO/MIDI setup, under the MIDI tab.
    If so, I would delete it now all you need to see is your MIDI interface.
    EX7 Environment Multi setup:
    A single Multi Instrument setup for the EX7 in the Environment, on the left control area, under "Channel" it should say ALL. Name the Multi to "EX7" or whatever..
    Back on the Arrange Page select a MIDI track.
    The Inspector on the left should show:
    Port: Select the MIDI interface port you're using, do not select ALL.
    Under Channel, select 1
    If you have a Multi setup correctly with patch names you will see them under program.{/quote}
    - I believe that this is the can of worms that needs to opened immediately - (Getting can opener)
    - Okay, I'll try the MIDI suggestions, but what I have now is yes, EX7 is connected to the MIDI interface inside the system's audio-MIDI setup, and inside Logic, it is set up to be connected to port A, the port it is physically connected to.
    In logic's enviro, it shows on the left 'EX7' when I look in the drop down menu, and then 'Port A' .
    On the right, next to the EX7 object, there is another one called 'GM device' , which is actually set to 'All'. - Have I hit the nail on the head? .. We'll see...
    (I'm going to go experiment in there now, I'll keep you posted, pun intended

  • "Record enable" won't work?!

    Sorry for such a nub question, but in the new project I'm working on--and it seems, even old ones that I had no problem with earlier, upon revisiting--adding a new audio track and having the "record enable" box checked doesn't work.
    That is, the default input is Bus 1, and there are no other inputs in the drop-down. I remember Input 1-2 used to be an option, but it doesn't show up anymore.
    The mic I'm using the Blue USB mic, and in the past it's worked under hardware settings as an Aggregate Device, which I created in the Audio/MIDI utility in Leopard. I don't think I've changed anything to cause Logic to no longer allow me to record audio tracks, but apparently I can't anymore... help?

    Hi,
    did you check if another audiotrack is armed to record input1-2? Then this input won't be available to a second track anymore

  • Record enable in GB X

    Apparently record enable has to be on for one track always. The record enable button does not seem to switch it off for all tracks. Is that right, or am I missing something very basic, which wouldn't surprise me?

    Tom Wolsky wrote:

    correct, it's not a toggle (radio button), you can record enable multiple tracks (you can click and drag to change the state of multiple tracks)

  • Record Enable on Multiple Midi Channels

    Longtime Logic user here.
    First of all, I have never really understood certain parts of record enabling midi channels.  Sometimes, I will be switching between midi channels to record a new instrument, and the old midi channel will stay Record Enabled, and sometimes it doesn't.
    Sometimes, when two midi channels are record enabled, one of them will have a grey "R" with a little red R instead of the normally full red "R".  (I know, it's confusing)
    And sometimes when you choose an Aux track that is linked to a Midi channel with multiple outputs, it acts like it is Record Enabled.  This means, you have an Aux track selected, but you can play a midi instrument, like a different instrument is selected.
    These were always part of Logic, for as long as I used them, and I just learned to deal with them without thinking too much about why one thing happens.
    With Logic Pro X, I just found a bug that makes these other things matter.
    I was working on an Aux track for a multi-output midi instrument.
    Then I clicked onto a different midi instrument, to begin recording onto it.  What happened was the Aux track was still "Record Enabled" even though there is no "R" button on an Aux track.  So, when I hit the keyboard, two different midi channels were playing, even though one of them was an Aux track without a record enabled button.
    I was able to clear it, by selecting a different midi channel, and clicking around until there was only one midi channel playing.  But at this point, Logic's weird programming is starting to be an issue that I wish they would address.

    Mate, i'm so sorry - Between LP9 and LPX i was using Ableton and i think i've confused myself, just spent 10 minutes looking for the option in Logic as i could see the option in my head when replying.
    However, it was in Ableton.
    It's Logic's characteristic i guess?  I've had a few oddities record-enabling tracks but have put it down to being a new release, things like enabling and not actually hearing any notes, clicking the R on/off and suddenly it's ok.
    My problem has always been with Logic, i have this OCD-like nature where i click away from a track after making a change, and it STILL catches me out as i go to record an track above gets overwritten if i'm looking away - So totally understand your frustrations.
    Not sure why it has to be fixed like that really, must be some deep rooted reason like it would blow up if there were no track record-enabled and you pressed the record button maybe?

  • 10.5 update has removed record enable

    Hey ho,
    I updated to logic pro 10.5 yesterday and record enable has diaspeared. Ive searched some older threads and went througt the sugested steps that fixed the problem for older Logic but they arent sorting out the 10.5 update. There is en empty space where the R button should be and ive also not got and input monitoring. I know its not my interface becaue it works in garageband. Ive been in preferences and the track header show/hide recoed enable but stiil no joy.
    any other ideas?
    cheers

    Magic,
    No.. that may not be the case..(Though of course, the update has triggered the problem)
    It could well be the way the M-Audio devices (and Alesis's gear comes from the same source. as are a few other cheaper interfaces who 'use' the same basic design ideas.) were designed.. and the fact they 'die' under 10.0.5 could be a symptom of a design issue, which causes the issue when a library/routine in Logic 10.0.5 was changed or updated...
    Otherwise many more audio devices would have have the same issue and that is plainly not the case....
    It's easy to jump to the wrong conclusion.... but until the cause is fully understood, it's best to say, the reasons for this particular issue, are unknown at this time
    It's also worth noting the audio devices having this issue, are also of the group that historically, tends to have issues when OS X and/or Logic is updated...whereas the audio devices that remain stable throughout, are not affected by this issue...
    So... It may well be that a fix might have to be forthcoming from the makers of the audio devices affected and not  from Apple themselves, if it's a design problem with the devices and/or their drivers..... which in the past has also been the case in similar situations with these particular audio interfaces.

  • Record enabling via slide activation not working?

    Hello,
    I'm a long time Cubase user who is new to Logic, and I came across the section in the manual entitled "Track Button Slide Activation". (p. 118) It says this should work for the Record Enable button, but it does not. Works fune for Mute, Solo, Hide and Protect (haven't tried Freeze or Node), but not for Record Enable. Am I missing something?
    Dual 2.5GHz PowerMac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Thanks Jim...
    I've been working through the manual and discovered the ability to add tracks to a permanent group, as opposed to the temporary group referred to on p. 269. However, Rec Enable still doesn't work on the entire group unless you click this button in the Arrange Window. It doesn't work in the Track Mixer. I suppose it's not supposed to, since the group option is called "Arrange Track Record", but I find this very strange.
    Re: p. 269, though - I guess that is totally wrong then? Sure seems like it.

  • Is it possible to lock an audio track in "record enabled" mode?

    Here's how i write... i set up a drum loop to play for around 20 minutes, then I rec-enable one audio track to record vocals, and then finally, I skip around among hundreds of different midi tracks.
    I just hit the down arrow button, and scroll through dozens and dozens of midi tracks. I quickly hit the keyboard to listen to the sounds. If i like a particular sound, i just want to hit record, and instantly record my vocals along with the midi performance.
    Unfortunately, when i hit record, the vocal/audio track doesn't record. Right at the moment when i find an inspiring sound and hit record, the vocals just don't record.
    I'm forced to scroll miles up the arrange window, to find
    the vocal audio track. It's still blinking the red "rec" button, but this is misleading. It's not actually record enabled. I have to hold down shift, hit it once to turn it off, then hit it again to re-activate record function.
    Only then can i record the midi AND vocals.
    What I want and need is sooooooo simple to offer as a function, yet totally ruinous to my creative flow if it's not possible. (I used to do this easily on the far inferior
    Cubase VST 5.1, OS 9)
    Is there a way to record enable an audio track, so that,
    until I specifically disable the record function, it's
    ALWAYS ready to record the second I hit the record button?
    Even after I've been hitting the down arrow to audition
    various midi channels?
    MacPro 3ghz, 8 gig RAM, 3 raptor drives   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   Logic 7.2.3, Kontakt 2 soft-sampler, RME 400

    I tried to build screensets like you suggested. If I could
    get this to work, I think it would be a great solution, but
    I'm having serious problems.
    I opened a separate mixer, with just the single vocal/audio
    track showing.
    Then I opened the main mixer, which has all the faders.
    If I record-enable a midi track, and then hit the record-enable button on the audio track, the midi track becomes un-enabled. Incredibly frustrating.
    The only way I've been able to do it has been to record-enable the vocal track, and then start recording.
    Only if Logic is actually recording, can i then record-enable the midi track without deactivating the audio
    track.
    A big problem is, that when i click to record enable the
    vocal track, the arrange window jumps all the way up to the
    top, where the audio track is. THen i'm forced to travel
    down, to re-find the midi track.
    You mentioned in your post that the mixer needs to be
    "unlinked". HOw is this done? Will it be possible for
    me to click on the record-enable button on the mixer's audio track without the arrange window jumping to that track?

  • How to Select each check box values in a group of records

    Hi,
    I have a requirement in forms 10g. In that form there are 10 records are displaying each record has one check box is there if i click the check box on record number one and record number three and do some changes in the text field(adjustment field is number data type) then finally I want to see the total on one field called total amount.
    In this my question is how to select particular records in a group of records? and finally these selected records are inserted into one table.
    Because I am not able to fetch these records at a time.
    Is there any Array to define a record group to fetch each of them individually for example Rec[1],Rec[2]...like that if yes please suggest me the steps how to do this.
    Thanks in advance

    I'm sorry, but i didn't get your requirement in detail.
    Do you want to do the summing of the selected records in forms ? Or do you just want to know which records are selected and then process them?
    If you want to process the selected records in sql you could use an object-type to store the list of id's (of whatever primary key you use), loop over the block to fill it, and then afterwards process them.
    For this approach, first create an object-type in the database:
    CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE ID_LIST AS TABLE OF NUMBER;
    /Then, in forms you could do something like this to fill a list of id's:
    DECLARE
      lIds ID_LIST:=ID_LIST();
    BEGIN
      GO_BLOCK('MYBLOCK');
      FIRST_RECORD;
      LOOP
        EXIT WHEN :SYSTEM.RECORD_STATUS='NEW';
        IF :BLOCK.CHECKBOXITEM="CHECKEDVALUE" THEN
          lIds.EXTEND(1);
          lIds(lIds.COUNT):=:BLOCK.PRIMARYKEYITEM;
        END IF;
        EXIT WHEN :SYSTEM.LAST_RECORD='TRUE';
        NEXT_RECORD;
      END LOOP;
      -- Now you can use the object-list in SQL like :
      INSERT INTO MYNEWTABLE (cols..)
      SELECT (cols..)
        FROM MYOLDTABLE
       WHERE ID IN (SELECT COLUMN_VALUE FROM TABLE(lIds));
    END;Edited by: Andreas Weiden on 18.12.2008 18:17

  • Function to Generate a Sequential incremental Number by Group of Records

    I have a table with several columns and I need to compute a sequential number by group of records
    FIELD1 FIELD2 FIELD3 FIELD4 FIELD5

    BBBBBB A2 ALLY 01/01/60 NULL
    BBBBBB A5 JUAN 01/01/04 NULL
    I need to compute FIELD5. This is defined as a number field.
    Records where FIELD2 = A1 the default value for FIELD5 is zero.
    I am grouping records by FIELD1, FIELD4
    The value for FIELD5 will be assigned from 1 TO 1+N
