Apparent problem with FCPX Library Backups storage
Will appreciate any thoughts about the following apparent issue with FCPX library backups. Have been working for several hours in two newly created FCPX libraries to handle two new F55 filming projects. Each library, regarding its respective FCPX-assigned Storage Location settings, has been positively set to place/store library backup data in a specifically chosen folder called Final Cut Pro Backups which sits in the Movies folder on my main hard drive. Notwithstanding this set of established data storage conditions, and continuous activity in FCPX for several hours, there is absolutely nothing regarding these libraries stored in the Backups folder, or anywhere else that I can detect. Any ideas about what is going on? Jon

you are not referencing the library properly. you should add these libraries by right Clicking on a Reference and Select Add reference and search for these library and add them into your project..

Problems with Aperture Library
My iMac crashed as I was importing some pictures. When I restarted it said there was a problem with the library and it needed to be repaired. After the repair I find that when I open Aperture I get an error message:There was an error opening the database for the library “/Users/samswallow/Pictures/Aperture Library.aplibrary”. I quit that and Aperture closes. I have reinstalled Aperture and it makes no difference. All my photos are still there in Aperture Library Masters and can be seen in Preview. I would value any help on this.
Did you do a repair or a rebuild? And did the action complete normally?
I would do the permissions repair then the library repair again and if you still get the errors do the rebuild. Note before doing the rebuild you should have a backup of your library. While it rarely happens rebuilds can make things worst. -
Backup Problem with Windows Server Backup
Hello,
we have problems with Windows Server Backup Feature.
Our system is a Windows Server 2008 Standard. On the computer runs a SQL Server 2005.
Since several days no backup can be carried out. We get the error message:
- Error during a Volume Shadow Copy service operation. Detailed error: Failed to process the volume shadow copy: "0x800423F0".
- Errors in the event log: For the started backup an error occured. The volume shadow copy operation was not successful. Error code: "2155348129". Run the backup again after the problem was fixed.
We have already tried to restart the services, uninstalled the Windows Server Backup Feature and reinstalled it, also we rebootet the server several times. Unfortunately, so far without success.
What else can we do respectively where could be the problem?

Just downloaded and installed new LR CC. No apparent problems with the D/I on my iMac, OS 10.10.3. however LR CC will not start. I get a momentary flash of the opening screen and then the program shuts down. From the posts it looks like this if a very common problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Problem with Time Capsule backup
My Time Capsule is a first gen (500 GB), and I recently upgraded to Lion on my iMac. It seems like right around the time I upgraded that I started having problems with Time Machine backups. They will complete, but then the disk does not eject from my desktop. I am running the Time Capsule buddy widget, and here's the log file:

You can see at the end where I ejected the disk manually.I finally resolved this. However, I had to erase the entire backup on my 3tb and start with a new backup. I connected via hardwire to make it go faster. No problems now.

Problems with itunes library and order of tracks

I downloaded the new update, and I'm having a problem with my library when accessed from the browser. Before itunes 7, my tracks were in order that they appeared on the album, now they are in alphabetical order. Is there a way to make it go back the way it was before the update--in order by track number?

chrisI was having the same problem and I knew there had to be an easy answer. I knew it for sure when I saw your topic unanswered. Just right click, or control click on the bar where it says name, album, genre, etc. and select "track number," this will give you the option to put them in their original order.
You can also access this under "view options" in the view pull down menu.

Problems with the Complexe backup in FCPro X!!!!

I have 2 HD disks to backup my FCPX projects so...there's my problem/question:
I create an Event.
I create the original Project in one of my disks...I put clips from the event on the timeline, transitions, sounds...etc
Now I backup the project to the other 2 external Disks.....So I duplicate the project and it's referenced Events to the other disks.
After working fpr more 12 hours on the original Project I want to back it up again to the 2 disks...so...what must I do? Duplicate it again with it's referenced Events??? Just duplicate the project and FCPX is going to automatically place new captured clips, etc into the back up disks???
I feel I'm doing something wrong; I thing I'm duplicating too much Gb to the other disks when I try to backup/actualize the copies of my original project...
Isn't any smart option to just actualize the other two disks from the original? I mean...When I capture new clips to the original Event I don't remember where they're placed and so, I don't know how to "upgrade" the projects on the external back up disks.
Man!!! FCPX is not bad but with FCP7 I worked without thinking so much and almost with my eyes closed!!!...I feel that it's very difficult to synchronize the same project in other disks
HELP!!!I filmed with a VIXIA CANON videocamera and copied all the material to an external Disk (with the whole root)
So even being in the disk I import the material as it with FCPX as if it was in a camera.
I am also using GO PRO clips and other formats...

No matter the disk I use I need it to be able to work with my project with no missing media.
If I duplicate just the project to another disk from FCPX...if I try to work on it without the original one connected , there's always missing media...

Directory exist because I can backup single tablespace, into the same directory, I just can't backup whole database.

Problem with Time Machine Backup or Maybe Not Time Machine
The problem manifests after a Time Machine backup.
I have an iMac 24-inch, Early 2008. iMac 8,1
Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM.
Last week I purchased two 4-Terabyte G-technology G-Drives. Each drive is equip with FireWire 800 and USB 3.0/2.0. In general use they seem to work fine on the iMac.
I designated one drive as a Time Machine Volume. This is where the problem happens.
Time Machine will do the initial backup just fine. Then it runs once per hour with no problem. Intermittently however, Time Machine will fail and report :
“Time Machine couldn’t complete the backup to “hard disk name”.
Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder.”
Interestingly enough if I try to open a folder on the Time Machine volume using the Finder I get:
“The operation can’t be completed. An unexpected error occurred (error code -50).
If I try to eject the volume I get the irksome “Cannot eject volume because it’s currently in use by one or more programs.”
To resolve this I’ve tried everything, from the banal verifying permissions, to swapping the two G-Drives around, swapping out all the cables, etc.. When the error occurs I go into the shell and check with lsof and always find no software apparently holding or using that volume.
Very frustrating
I can force eject the volume, then remount the volume and things are back to normal. Same with restarting.
This happened under OS X Mountain Lion and is now happening under a clean install of Mavericks.
I thought that even though I don’t see any MDS related processes using the drive, it might be spotlight, so I told spotlight not to index the volume. Problem still happens.

His solution turned out to be replacing the G-Drive with another brand new G-Drive.
Unfortunately, I cannot return the drives to the Apple store because the boxes were tossed out. I also don’t relish trying to explain that the drives work just fine until some glitch that occurs either just before or just after a Time Machine backup.
Does anyone have any suggestions?You can also contact G-Drive while the drives are under warranty (one year I believe).
I have the same problem using Time Machine with the 2T G-Drive and my MacBook Pro. G-Tech emailed me a Firmware Update Utility app and, when that didn't solve the error message problem, they sent me a replacement drive and new cables, twice. The problem persisted; I get one or two backups each day and then the error message. I also can't copy anything to the drive and have to force eject it, so G-Tech suggested I see how well it worked with the USB cable.
Time Machine works flawlessly with the USB cable and the G-Drive, so G-Tech suggested it is a problem with my Firewire 800 port. I worked with Apple Care over the phone, doing all the tests suggested in Eric's post - testing with Disk Utility, Time Machines interface with my User Accounts, the Operating System, then resetting Time Machine, etc. and then I took it to the Genius Bar so they could run the tests themselves. All looked like it should be fine (but they were using a 1T G-Drive and all testing was done within 30 minutes)...when I got home, after two good backups, I got the error message again.
Apple Care finally suggested I make a Genius Bar appointment and sit at the store working with my MacBook, the G-Drive and Time Machine running until I got the error message, to prove the only thing left that could possibly be the cause of the problem, is the port. I did this last Wednesday.
It is 9 days later and I got my computer back this afternoon...the logic board was replaced because the Firewire 800 port is attached to it...I got my first Time Machine back up at 5:34pm...and the error message again at 7:34pm.
The only solution, it seems, is to use the USB cable instead of Firewire. USB and Thunderbolt seem to be the direction Apple is taking, which is why so many people have been posting about this problem, here and elsewhere, with no real solutions from Apple. I'm having problems with duplicate photo's showing up in my iphoto library. first of all how do i get rid of them. can i just go through them all and delete the dupes without them returning. second what caused them? i also have a few questions in how to use iphoto in general. how do i import existing photos to my iphoto library. if i have a folder of pictures and add it to my library, iphoto makes a copy of them in the iphoto library folder right? does that mean that after they get imported i can delete the original folder to avoid duplicates? also, say i have a folder named my pictures or imported into the iphoto library, if i add a few pictures to that my pictures folder, how do i add only those new pictures to the iphoto library? do i just add the whole folder again, and iphoto will know which ones are already there and which are new? oh and by the way, i messed up and moved stuff around in my iphoto library directory before knowing any better.
--First thing to know and remember is this...Do not drag any images, folder of images into the iPhoto Library in the Finder. Images have to be imported into iPhoto within the application. Do not scan images and save them into the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder. Save them to another location such as the Pictures folder or even the desktop. You can then import them into iPhoto.
--All images that you import are sown in the library view. You can choose how you want to view, by rolls, by date, by rating, etc. When you put images in an Album, slideshow, book, etc, you are actually just putting pointers to those images in the library. You are not adding more images. If you delete an image from the Album it will still be in the library. If you delete an image from the library it is deleted from iPhoto's database and your hard drive (unless you have it backed up somewhere else)
--You have a folder of images on your hard drive and want to import them into iPhoto. Drag the folder of images into an open iPhoto Library window and the folder of photos will be copied into the library, resulting in a new roll with the name of the folder. You now have two copies of those photos, the ones in iPhoto's database and the ones on your desktop. You can keep the ones on your desktop that you just imported as backup or you can delete that folder.
-- you scan a picture/pictures and save it in a folder. You cannot scan directly into iPhoto or the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder.
You want all your photos in iPhoto so you import them into iPhoto.
Now you have two copies of that picture/pictures, so you can delete the originals that were in the scanned folder and keep the one/ones that were imported into iPhoto.
-- You download pictures from your camera into iPhoto.
There is now one copy of each of the pictures.
You want to change something about a picture you imported, such as
cropping it or changing the size, or changing the orientation.
Once you do that to a picture, you now have two copies of the picture
in iPhoto, the original and the edited one. The edited one will be in the library organize view. The original is packed away in an Original folder in your iPhoto Library folder under the date of the roll. You can always revert to the original by control clicking on the photo and choose "revert to orginal" You will not have this choice if you used iPhoto Diet to get rid of the Originals.
(a quick note on cropping within iPhoto...when you are in edit mode, you automatically will be in the crop mode with cross hairs to highlight the crop area. To finish cropping you must click the crop button and then go back to library view and your cropped picture will be there.
3.You want to use Photoshop or another graphic program to edit a picture in your iPhoto library.
You can open up prefs for iPhoto and choose "when double clicking on
photo ..do" choose "other" and select Photoshop. Now you can edit all
pictures in your iPhoto library in PhotoShop by double clicking. If you save the photo with the same name and as a flattened file it will be saved right into iPhoto and you will see the changes. If you don't want to save it into iPhoto then do a "save as" and save to the desktop. You will then have the original photo still in iPhoto and your new edited photo on the desktop.
Or, with iPhoto open, you can drag a picture from the library window
to your desktop (you see a + sign on the pic you are dragging). You now
have two of the same picture, one in the iPhoto library and one on your desktop. You can open up the one on your desktop in any graphic program and work on it. The one in iPhoto stays the same. You can also share/export the picture/pictures to your desktop or folder to work on them or do batch processing, etc. You will still have the originals in your iPhoto Library.
Or, you can open up the ~/Pictures/iPhoto Library/folders and option drag any
picture out of the folder to your desktop. -

I have a lot of talks I wanted to put in a separate folder than my music. I keep my music out of iTunes and point it to the folder. That worked so far but I seem to have one problem after the other with the talks folder and the new library. Even though I made sure the files were all labelled correctly and so on, they appeared in iTunes (I think most of them, not had time to check) but many of them lacking album or artist name or even floating around at random - when there are many files to a talk/seminar this is an intensive task to correct - but although at first I could make changes via Info, then they wouldn't be saved, and then I could open Info but could not write in it.
I had been using PowerTunes app but found it easier to do things myself.
I am not sure what to do. That's a day's work anyway. Should I delete the lot and start again? And what is the best way to import the files. I thought just pointing iTunes to the folder did it, but apparently not. Or is there some more radical action? Am currently using Disk Utility to check premissions etc There seem to be issues with system library/java and system library/frameworks etc and then a this:
"Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired."
I don't know what that means or if it is serious and whether it has anything to do with the iTunes problem.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Remember that you can only view the other library. You can't edit the photos or play the saved slideshows or view the made books or burn them to Cd or DVD. The books and slideshows will show up as an album. You can play that album as an "on the fly" slideshow. You can drag images from the sharing library to your library in the source column to import them to your library. You can then edit, add to albums, books, slideshow, etc.

Problem with online split backup, database oracle

we use for backup our SAP system online split backup, our database is almost 3TB big. Backup is functional but sometimes (4x-5x per month) backup fail with error bellow. If i understant this problem correctly brbackup lost connection to oracle after split disk system and cant stop backup mode in database and backup failed. How can i solve this problem? Exist some parameter for brbackup for reconnect to db when brbackup lost connection? Thanks for your help!

in note 534729 is nothing about ORA-03135: connection lost contact only error ORA-03114 which refer to the note 335199 and in this note in nothing about ORA-03114 I want to say two things: this two oracle errors (ORA-03135 and ORA-03114) are not in alertSID.log on db server or in syslog on backup server. This error are only reported from brbackup which is running on backup server which is "client side". We don't have problem with connection from work processes on all instances to db server, we have only problem with brbackup which lost connection after split disk system. How i say this problem occurs only sometimes. I was tested network connection from backup server to db server via niping a this is result:

When using Firefox to access from remote machines every 3 mouse clics, only one is functional ; second problem when i type on the keyboard every 3to6 letters, a letter did not appear. With Microsoft internet explorer no problems. This problem appears only in our computers (not in the other libraries). Windows vista pro sp2. Dual core e5300, RAM2Go. Antivirus Trend Office Scan. How can i analyse this fact ? Thanx for your help, as i realy want to use Firefox instead of IR(Bleahh).

Problems with Time Machine backup for two machines to one external drive
I have a brand new WD 500GB USB My Book external drive plugged into my Intel Mac Mini running 10.5.1 to use as a TM backup drive (TM reformatted it to HFS+ journaled). The Mini's connected by ethernet to the Airport Extreme. It works great. I setup my wife's MacBook Pro 17" Dual Core 2 w. 10.5.1 for TM using the Mac Mini's TM backup drive and it works fine (a little slower at 811.n wi-fi speeds, but OK). I have the Mac Mini setup in Energy Saver to shut down at night and restart in the morning. The morning after I setup my wife's MacBook Pro for TM I found a big black & white message (in half a dozen languages) on the Mac Mini saying start up failed and I need to reboot using the power button. I did and everything was cool. Now comes the problem, it's done it three days in a row so it looks like there is a problem with the TM setup. It didn't do this before I setup my wife's computer for TM.
Any thoughts on what is causing this? We've had minimal problems with Leopard setup (short of a brief hunt for an Airport Extreme Drive and a couple of network printers during initial setup).1 mistake @ a time wrote:
I works fine over a network if the TM drive is attached to another Mac running Leopard. It won't work with an Airport drive (Apple deep sixed that feature in the final release).
We have an Airport Extreme base station, and we plan to add an Airport Express to boost the power to reach the second floor. We are ordering 4 iMacs, 20", plus I have the Macbook 13" that I have had for a few months.
We thought we could connect one large external drive via firewire cable to one of the iMacs and use it to back up all five computers via Time Machine.
Is that possible, or does everybody need their own external drive?
