Apparently there's a problem with ver. 32.0 & XP, so perhaps I shouldn't be updating. The update has been downloaded; can I stop it now before restarting?
I'm now getting the message "The update will be loaded the next time Firefox starts". Is there any way to STOP the updating at this point, if there are going to be problems with ver. 32.0 under XP (which I am obviously still using)?
I am using Firefox 32.0 on Windows XP and have experienced no issues.
You cannot stop the update now that it have been installed. However, you can downgrade Firefox back to 31.0 once it restarts by downloading 31.0 from [https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/ here].

5, it says, "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." I have Windows XP and I need help.
After reading all these posts, one by one did not resolve my problem until I got the very end. Regardless of what step would resolve your problem, these are the steps I would recomment to everyone for a what seems to be a safe and fool-proof upgrade to iTunes 10.5.
1. Stand alone upgrade to the latest Quicktime version
2. Go to control panel and "change" then select repair to the following applications in the order specified by the post on Oct 27. (Notice I skipped Quicktime because it had been upgrade manually, and Bonjour did not have a "repair" option)
iTunes; Apple Software Update: Mobile Device Support; Apple Applications Support
Some of these applications may not appear if they do not apply to your configuration (no iPhone, or no iPad, or other apple devices).
Once all updated, I did not need to restart nor launch any applications, I simply went straight into the 10.5 upgrade, and where it normally got stuck, this time the installation continued for a while longer until it completed successfully.
Great work everyone who contributed! Thank you very much! -

I am experiencing the exact same issue during the installtion process for iTunes 10.5.
I uninstalled all Apple components but when I attempted to uninstall the Apple Software Update I received the same message: "Fatal error during installtion." I was able to repair the Apple Software Update but still could not install iTunes 10.5 afterwards.
I have tried everything that I could find on these discussions pages as well as other suggestions on third party sites. I continue to receive the error message: "There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. When I try to download iTunes 10.5, I keep getting the message "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected." Therefore I can't update my iTunes to the new version. How can I solve this? I don't want to pay for technical support as this seems to be a problem with the iTunes package Apple is providing itself by that message.
Hello, hartadrian.
I would recommend attempting to repair the Apple Software Update via the steps below. Once processed attempt to download, update or install iTunes 11.

If you are still experiencing the issue, completely remove all components of iTunes in the order specified of the article below. Once this has been processed, attempt to download and install iTunes 11.

When trying to install an itune upgrade on a Windows 7 machine I get the following message: There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. One solution I found by googling is to go to Control panel/add/remove programs and REPAIRING THE APPLE SOFTWARE UPDATE. Don't seem to work for me tho......any solutions? Thanks
I finally found a reply that said to go to the Apple Installer and repair and it seems to have worked! I was looking for a Windows installer all the time. Thanks to whoever put that fix out there.

Any suggestions on what else to do??All - Thanks for the information.
I am receiving the same error, "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." Thought I found the answer in your replies above. However, I cannot find the "Apple Software Update" program either from Start -> All Programs or the Control Panel. I am running Windows XP, Service Pack 3. I would appreciate any additional guidance you have. -
I had the geek squad from bestbuy supposedly install iphoto 11 on my mac but it is not there and when i try to download it it say the app has been download by another user on this machine. What do i need to do get get this app on my system? If they could not do it right the first time I do not have much faith in their advice.
Assuming you've done a system wide search for it including the Applications folder and it's not there......
I think you will need to address this with them - did you pay them for the application? Or was your purchase price to include it? And the question(s) to ask them:
If the app store states that it has been downloaded, ask them where it is and which Apple ID they used. (the store keeps track of Apple IDs and machine IDs on everything you download).
I have absolutely no faith in their advice; however, in this case, it's not so much technical advice, but an answer to your questions: you paid for something and it appears not to be there. -

1. Open the control panel
2. Open Add/Remove programs (called "Programs and Features" in Windows 7)
3. Navigate to "Apple Software Update" in the list and click on it
4. Click on "Change" then select "Repair" (or just select the repair option in Windows 7)
Once you repair this, try running iTunes and the update again.
