APPCS5.5 Clip Marker Sync Question

Very simple scenario:
Within Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5, I inport (1) single video, minus audio.
I then import (1) audio track, completely not associated with the audioless video clip.
(For sake of this scenario, (1)video of gun shot - no sound, (1)audio clip of gunshot.)
I then open each of the two clips, respectively, in the Source Monitor window, slide the Time-Indicator
to where I wish my Clip-Marker to be placed, go up to Marker > Clip Marker > Set Other Numbered, and
proceed to enter, "0" for the maker associated with my video clip, and, "1" for the marker associated with
my sound clip.
Ok, each Clip-Marker, on each clip, set perfectly where I need them, and it can be said that, each clip now, has at least one numbered
Clip-Marker applied to it.
Next, I fully understand about the Merge option, and that, I can simply drag the one clip, and the Markers will go black when aligned.
However, I do not want to do it that way.
Instead, with Clip-Markers in place, I Marquee select both of the two clips, go up to Clip, in the Menu Bar, and choose, Synchronize.
Option box comes up, and as always, the option to Sync using "Markers", is greyed out.
Why?

Try using Unnumbered markers.

  • Clip Marker Question

    Hello,
I am currently evaluating PP CS6 on my laptop (Win7) and am liking everything so far except for the removal of the Jog/Shuttle transport controls, but that appears to be a moot point now. I have played with JKL and the shift key and am trying to get used to it.
Anyways I can't seem to find how to add clip markers. The new sequence markers are very cool and love the fact that the comments can be displayed on the sequence. However in my workflow I add a lot of markers directly to clips so when I do a ripple trim the markers ripple with the clip and do not get out of sync as sequence markers will. For the life of me I have been trying to figure out how to add a marker to a clip in CS6. I work in 5.5 almost every day so I am rather stumped on how to add a marker to a clip in CS6. I hope I am just missing a keyboard shortcut or in a menu or something somewhere and that fea ture has not been removed.
I watched the marker video and see how they can be added to clips in Prelude however I want to add them to clips in PP.
    Thanks,
    Shane

Double-click a clip in a sequence or in the Project panel to add the clip into the Source Monitor and add a clip there, or go into the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog and assign a shortcut to the Timeline Panel item, Add Clip Marker.

  • Has the clip marker problem been resolved in Premiere cs6?

Has the clip marker problem been resolved in Premiere CS6.  As of early July, it was not!  Navigating, synchronizing clips seems impossible.

Explain your problems with markers in this feature request form: http://www.adobe.com/go/wish
Sorry, that's all I can offer you.

I'd just like to add my voice to the chorus here - namely that Marker functionality for CS6 is extremely lacking, and has made my workflow for various tasks much longer and more tedious.
In my case I'm trying to match professional footage of a concert with audience-submitted cell phone footage. The pro footage can't be synced with the non-pro footage via Pluraleyes because the cell phone audio is way too high to be analyzed properly. Hence I need to manually sync, which I can't do efficiently because I can't put clip markers on the pro footage once it's synced in pluraleyes and sent back into Premiere, because it only exists in a sequence.
I have no idea why Adobe would remove a function used daily by its editors, one that was simple and reliable, for no reason.
And what's puzzling is that there's been not even an acknowledgement of the issue from anyone at Adobe for 8 months.
This doesn't make any sense. Usually customer service from Adobe is much better than this. Why no action on this one issue?
BTW, if you want to add Clip Markers to clips in the Timeline, you can set a keyboard shortcut for that.

  • Bug report: clip marker is placed incorrectly

    (filed)
    Product Version: 7.2.1
    Your operating system: Windows 7
    ******BUG******
Clip marker in audio clip is placed at incorrect location
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1. Highlight WAV audio clip in sequence, in this case bottom audio track below one other audio WAV clip and two video/audio tracks
    2. press M at desired marking point, as indicated by playhead
    Results:
Marker is placed to left (earlier) of the playhead by one frame, and I have seen it to the right (later) by one frame.
    Notes:
    1. Markers were placed correctly in the two of three  audio clips on top of this one in the sequence
    2. the misplaced marker cannot be deleted, although it can be selected.
    Expected results:
Place the marker at the playhead, not just nearby. Accuracy counts!

Replying to my own posting. The original example was optimistic.
In reality, placing markers on my audio clips to help with sync and maintain sync is like watching a blind person play darts... and sometimes the darts stick in places you can't even get them back out of.

  • Clip Marker Issue

I have 3 clips in the timeline in premier on different channels. I want to sync them.
I think I have the markers set up correctly, but I'm not quite sure. When I try to sync, the sync by clip marker option is greyed out.
Could this be an issue with the way I'm marking my clips? Is there a difference between marking the timeline and marking a clip?
    Thanks!

Is there a difference between marking the timeline and marking a clip?
There is.  The Help file will contain the details.

  • IMovie clips marked as rejected

I am in the early stages of learning how to use iMovie and seeking help/advice.
I have several events, that I edited to remove unwanted footage, "delete selected, then emptied the trash".
That operation appeared to go well except, when I now view these events, all the remaining clips are marked with a "red" bar and identified as "rejected" clips. Not sure if I did something wrong or not.
Note, I have not deleted these clips (I can still see them in the event folder within the finder).
What I want to do is remove the "red" bar and not have them identified as "rejected" clips.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciate.
Also, if anyone has thoughts on how I might have created this situation that would be great, since I do not want to do this again.
    iMovie '11
    OS X Lion

Well after playiing around with iMovie, I was able to answer my own question.
I selected the clips marked as "rejected", then clicked on the "unmark" tool (located in the dividing window between events and projects), which reverted them back to a "normal" state.

  • Fcpx - after selecting part of a clip, marking in and out, pressing the e key does not add it to the timeline.  what do I do?

At the Mac store they showed me how to select part of the clip, Mark in an out, and then use the key board shortcut, the E, to move back down to the end of the timeline. At home it refuses to do that. I can't even drag it down. I am using Snow Leopard, not lion. Can anybody tell me why I can't get the material down to the timeline except as an entire clip?

I was stuck in this exact same position yesterday, and wow was it ever frustrating. I can't remember the exact steps I stumbled upon to figure it out, but basically you need to create a "project" (not a "sequence" like you'd think - there is no "new sequence" command in FCP X) and that "project" will in fact be the sequence you are able to add your selections to.
The same real estate the sequence lives in is also where the "project library" lives, which will overtake your sequence if invoked - look to make sure the film reel icon at the bottom left of the screen is not active (blue). If it is active, click it to make the project libary go away.
I'm still struggling with FCP X as a long time professional FCP 7 user, and from what I've read this isn't uncommon. Best of luck getting past these fisrt few awkward hurdles and onto the actual editing (which, I have to say, so far I am having a hard time being precise or creative with).

  • Inserting upside down question marks/Inverted Question marks into database

    Hi All,
When I am inserting any special character into database it is
inserted as upside down question marks/Inverted Question marks.
When I am trying to display the same string throgh the application
the special characters are displaying as small square box.
    NLS Parameters are as follows:-
    NLS_LANGUAGE AMERICAN
    NLS_CHARACTERSET UTF8
    NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET UTF8
    NLS_RDBMS_VERSION 9.2.0.4.0
can any body help in this?
    Thanks in advance.

What are any "special character" and how do you insert them?
Have you verified what is stored in the db, e.g. with select string, dump(string,1016) from table ...
What character set (or locale) does the app/os use, and is NLS_LANG set accordingly?
The square box often means that the font used does not have the proper glyph to represent (display) a character. In your case this may be a consequence of improperly storing or retrieving character data.

  • FCP Sound Syncing Question

    Hey Everyone,
I have an audio syncing question for you. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I am cutting in FCP. I logged and captured my footage and with timecode breaks, etc. the tape was cut up, and I was left with eight files, let's call them Footage1-Footage8. I have completed my cut of the piece using the in-camera audio that was linked to the video on the DV tape that I imported. Our sound guy in the field used a DAT recorder to record the production audio and apparently captured the timecode to the audio files, so that it matches the video (i.e. the DAT recorder and our cameras - DVX-100s had synced timecode during the shoot). The DVD he gave me has 20 audio files as .wav, let's call them Audio1-Audio20. My question is, now that I have finished my cut, I would like to replace the current audio tracks with the production audio. How can I sync the audio with the video and replace it in what I've cut. Or perhaps I can't, in which case - how can I sync them up and THEN cut, but I'd really rather have to not do that, lol!
    Thanks for your advice!

Sorry about the long winded post, though.
I guess my real question, summarized is - is there a way to sync separately recorded production audio (that has timecode) with the footage that I shot (that has the same timecode as the audio, but also has in camera audio that accompanies the video track - I would imagine I can just "cut" the extra audio tracks, however).
I'm at my bay trying to figure this out, and I've got nothing, and the people I work for don't want to spring for that bwf2xml program you were talking about What's the emote for pulling one's hair out?

  • How to add "clip marker" to clip in sequence?

    Hi,
i need to add markers to clips in my sequence. In 5.5 i'd just select the clip in the sequence and then go Marker > Clip Marker > Set.  I don't see this option in 6, was it moved or removed?  Right now i have to add a few steps and double click the clip in the sequence to load it into the viewer and then add a marker and that's a complete waste of time.  Is this the only way to do it in 6?
    Thanks

    Thanks Ann,
in case anyone else needs this. here's an image.

  • Why are my clip marker comments disappearing?

I'm coming from Final Cut Pro, so part of my problem might be my workflow, but: Why are my clip marker comments disappearing? I log a lot of interviews and usually log the subject's responses in clip markers, but my comments are disappearing the second I select a different clip! Any reason why this might be? They stick around when I do sequence comments, but they disappear when I add comments to my clip markers when viewing in the source window. Thanks!

Jim, that's encouraging to hear. Unfortunately, I'm trying to run it on a mac (Lion). Are you finding that most complaints are coming from people running it on macs?
Believe me, I want to get behing Adobe, but I've restarted more than one project in Avid after finding Premiere super glitchy and inconsistent in it's behaviour.

  • Show clip marker names in Timeline

Not sure if this is possible but, does anyone know a way of displaying clip marker names in the timeline? Even if I could get them to show up in the canvas like timeline markers do, that would be great, but actually right next to the marker on the timeline would be ideal.

    Did I get you right?
I think we're still on different wavelengths. Using this screenshot as a reference:
    http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/19589/FCP%20Markers.png
The playhead is currently parked on Marker 4, which happens to be a Timeline marker (Aqua). Looking in the Canvas, there are 2 other markers in this sequence, one before marker 4, and one more after. There is also one marker on this screen, it's embedded in the clip (Red).
Noting that there are no clips selected in the timeline, at this point, if I were to press Option M, the playhead would jump to the previous timeline marker (Aqua).
However, if I were to select the "353 SA-Tag" clip, with the playhead in its current location, then press Option M, then the playhead would jump to the clip marker (Red). But even then, it's name and information wouldn't be displayed in the Canvas.
You've got me thinking too hard tonight!!

  • I need help regarding clip marks.

Does anyone know how to create clip marks in illustrator? I know how to make clip "masks" but not marks. Guidance please? .3.

You don't say what version of Illustrator you are using, but in CS6, it's Effects>Crop Marks

  • Why is the music clip marked with a yellow warning sign?

While browsing my project library today, I noticed that every music clip associated with a particular project is marked with a yellow "warning" triangle (with an exclamation point in the center). What's worse, the music won't play.
I had previously uploaded this video to YouTube, where it now plays just fine. But I'm still puzzled by the warning sign, and by the fact that the music won't play when I take a look at it in my Project Library.
I've never had a warning sign like this emerge in connection with anything else I've put together with iMovie. Why is it there, and why are the music clips inoperative? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi !
I have a question. I had that little warning sign as well but in the clip I had just imported into the event library... I don't understand because when I went to the folder in which iMovie copies the clips I import, it was right there. Same name, same size, same runtime... and it played perfectly; and I could preview the clip in iMovie. But the thumbnail was gray with that little sign. Also, I couldn't delete the clip from my library.
I closed iMovie, started it again... the clip is in the library, no more gray thumbnail and little yellow sign.
    How is that possible ?!

  • Multi-Clip Scrub Sync Problem

So im editing an 18 multi cam music video... Each clip I didn't sync by time code, but I made a sync mark at each beginning track so I have a basic rough outline reference point. I marked in each clip so it syncs up to that sound marker... And then I multi clip all of them. They are all roughly in sync...
Now im scrubbing the first individual camera 1 so it could be perfectly in-sync with the main song.... Moments later,Camera 1 is all synced up...
Now I check lets say Camera 2 and its completely out of sync its like in the middle of the song, how did it catch up to that point when I didnt even touch/move any other cameras? What do I do?
Its like when I synced the first one clip everything else bounced way out of sync even though I didn't touch it...
I also tried less cameras like 15 and still did it...
    Any idea? Help?
    Thanks guys!
    -B

Well it was a 1 camera shoot project. I just organized each input to match my sound sync... but if i scrub to perfect the clips, the other clips some how go way out of sync, really strange.
Im running on the most up to date quicktime, FCP and OS system... But have a Duel G5 Tower.
What im doing is, Im not perfecting the multiclip file, just gonna cut it together then scrub it on the timeline when its all set in...
