Appearance of links in IE

This webpage details the idiot attempts of the British Government to change facilities for sterilising surgical instruments.
It works very well when viewed with Safari but when the world looks at it using Internet Explorer the hyperlinks look very odd. If you look at it with IE 5.2 for the mac the fonts, which should be Georgia, look expanded. When you hover over them the text changes. The links all seem to take you to the intended pages or files when you click on them.
Am I making an obvious mistake?

Nobody else has answered this problem but I have now worked it out myself.
The problem was that for some reason a large block of text and links had been converted to a png file in spite of using a websafe font.
The answer was to make a new text box and cut and paste the text into it.
I spotted the problem because IE showed the types of files which were being downloaded and they came very slowly as the computer was being used to download some music at the same time.
Apologies to anyone who has looked at the site and found it working.

  • Placed Files and Copied Text not Appearing in Links Palette

I am working on an annual report.
The report is a booklet. I'm using master text boxes. The report is basically one, long flowing stream of text. Within this there are many articles, divided by headings.
I'm receiving articles for this annual report from many different sources, text within emails, Word documents, etc.
I have the "Create Links When Placing Text and Spreadsheet Files" checked.
    I'm having this issue:
Nothing is appearing in my Links palette.
When I go to File>Place, and place a Word document in as an article within my report, it doesn't appear in the link palette. When I copy text in from a Word document, it doesn't appear in the link palette.
However, when I place the Word document in the annual report within it's own text box, THEN it appears in the links palette.
But I don't want each Word document within it's own text box, I want it to be a part of the other text flow within the report.
Is there something I'm doing wrong?
Can't InDesign retain the link to the document even if the text is placed within a larger body of text flow?

No. It's not possible to maintain a link to text that's not in its own text frame.
What would happen if you were to edit the text in the frame, and part of the text affected was linked and part was not. What would you expect to happen? Such a workflow isn't possible as far as I know.

  • Purple box appearing around links in IE only.

I designed standard links from the index page to other pages. In Safari, they look fine, but in Internet Explorer there is a purple box that appears around the link once it is clicked. I cannot figure out why. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This thread has been moved to the Dreamweaver General Discussion forum.
If you're referring to an outline surrounding a text link, it's known as a focus rectangle. The purpose is to assist disabled people, who often use the keyboard to navigate websites, to identify which link has the focus, or has been clicked.
It is possible to remove it by creating the following CSS style rule in your style sheet:
    a {
        outline: none;
However, doing so makes your website less accessible to people with disabilities. Depending on the nature of the site and local laws in your country, this is often considered illegal under anti-discrimination law. A much better solution is to change the colour to one more in harmony with your site's colour scheme.
    a:hover, a:active, a:focus {
        outline-color: #CCC;
Since this is your first visit to the forum, welcome. Please take a few moments to read How to get help quickly. As well as posting in the correct forum, it's a good idea to provide a link to a page showing an example of your problem. It makes it much easier for others to offer relevant help.

What is the reason otheres are having this issue? I can accept and see thier PNG files from thier older version of Skype. I can not locate any information in prefernces, via help, support, or community.

  • Figures don't appear in linked templates: need help

I'm working on a site where I have a Main template, and two
templates that are based on this one-- let's call'em Temp1 and temp
    2. And there are several bitmaps on the Main template that I want
    to have on all pages.
Here's the problem. When I preview the Main Template, the
bitmaps appear fine. And when I preview temp 1 and tempt 2, the
bitmaps appear fine. But when I preview the pages based on Temp 1
and Temp 2, the bitmaps do not appear. (A page based on the Main
template does not display the btimaps either.)
So you can see there's a problem.
The site is set up so that the pages are in the root
diretcory, but the templates and their contents are in a Template
directory. Links are relative to the site root. I've tried changing
these various settings, with no luck.

I usually strongly encourage people NOT to use nested
    templates. I have yet
to find a scenario where using them actually reduces the
    complexity of the
site maintenance. Nor have I found a layout that would
    require the use of
    nested templates from the start.
Anyhow, let's start with your main template. Can you upload
    it and post a
link to the uploaded page, please?

  • Unwanted box appears around link

I have a vertical spry menu bar containing text that is linked to an anchor. At first it looks fine, but after I click on one link then a box witha  dotted border appears around the linked text that my mouse is scrolling over. I have pasted my code below--does anyone see anything that would cause this or know of a fix? Thanks so much!

  • Error message appears when linking one project to another.

I keep having problems linking a captivate project to another project.  The projects are saved as .cp files stored in the same folder as all of my other Captivate files.  I did publish them to .htm files and it worked.
Why would they not link properly when they are in .cp format?  It also gives me a message that states the directory the file is in does not exist.  However, I have checked the pathfile name twice and it is correct.
Any ideas what may be happening?

The last Captivate version to use .cp format was Captivate 4.  So you must be speaking about version 4 or earlier here?
The .cp format is the source project file, not an output format like HTML/SWF or PDF.  You may be accustomed to other software apps like MS Office where the output is the same as the source (DOC, PPT, XLS, etc) but Captivate is a different beast.
There's no point trying to link one Captivate project file to another.  What you are probably hoping to do is link the OUTPUT from one Captivate project to the OUTPUT from another project.  Is that correct?

  • Links do not appear in links panel in inDesign CS4

I don't recall when this happened but I no longer have any links in the Links Panel in inDesign CS4 in ANY of my documents old, new, it doesn't matter. If I package a file it gathers all the links if I need to update a link I have to go to the original link outside of inDesign to find it. I have found other problems like this in other forums but have not been successful with the solutions.
Can anyone please please help me with this??
    Thanks

  • The tag 'templates' keeps appearing in links...

    Hi all!
I'm doing a website redesign for a state agency.  The problem I'm having is when I save an .html file in Dreamweaver CS3 it's adding the tag 'templates'  in links pointing to things like .pdf files on our library page.  I do my development on a development drive before I move the folders to the live server as well.  Would the be a setting that would add the 'templates' tag to the links on my page that I could turn off in Dreamweaver somewhere?  Any assistance provided will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance for all the help! :-)

It means that DW thinks that those files are in the Templates folder in the site.  Post a link to a page so we can see this 'in the wild' so to speak, please.
Also, please tell us the following -
I assume you are using Templates for this site - correct?
In your site definition, what is the path shown for the local root folder?
Where in your site are these linked files actually located?

  • Links in PDF no longer work after optimizing file

    Hi,
I created a PDF file that is about 5.50 MB that needs to be reduced in size.  This PDF file was orginally created in Microsoft Word
with a linkable Table of Contents and links inside the document to websites.
When I create a PDF from this Word file in Adobe Acrobat X Pro, the links work as they should.  However, the file size is too big for reasons I won't get into.
I read that a trick to reducing the file size is to try have Adobe try to print the newly created PDF document (by going to file -> print -> and clicking 'OK,' even though my computer is not connected to a printer).  After Adobe tries to print the entire document, I click 'save as,' and sure enough, it successfully reduces the file size from about 5.50 MB to about 3.80MB without losing any quality.  That solved my problem of the file size, but for some bizarre reason, it created a new problem with the PDF document.
For some reason, after I shrink the PDF file size by printing the file, the linkable Table of Contents and the http links throughout the document no longer work in Adobe Reader or even in Adobe Acrobat X Pro, which created the PDF.  The links in the PDF document still appear as links, but when the 'hand' hovers over them, it doesn't change to an arrow.  And when you try to click them, nothing happens.
Why is this?  Is there some setting in 'Print PDF document' that is causing the links to be disabled?  How do I get the PDF links to work as they normally do?
I haven't changed any of the default settings in the PDF printer.  When the print box pops up, I just click 'OK.'  It then tries to print the entire PDF document and then when it is completed, I just save as.  Not sure what it would then disable the links.
    Thanks.
BTW, I have tried the optimizing feature to reduce the PDF file size, and it ruins the quality of this document.  The print PDF file trick works like a charm except for it disabling the links.  I'd like to figure out why it is doing this and that would solve the problem.

Actually on Mac two forms will transfer
    URL written as http://www.jqSmith_anywhere.usa
    mailto:[email protected]
and Only if you go through File Menu > Print> Pdf> Adobe PDF
or save document and Drop on The Acrobat application icon in the Dock. (doing this way though you have to wait possibly several minutes.)
And only only with acrobat X and XI.
The issue is when in Word you have higlighted a word, Pphrase or sentence the gone to Insert menu > URL the type in URL or Mailto. Then saved. This is a Minor issue that adode fixed if adobe desired to. It has taken adobe 15 years just fix so you could type in URL and mailto directly. It will likely tthem another 15 to get the other way fixed. They would rather Blame Microsoft and Apple.  rather than hunker down and fix the problem. Thevisual part or vdeo is based on PDF standard Adobe re;ease to general Public whenactobat first came out anew features emerge. And The code for Making Links is identical in both the Windows version and the Mac version. a saved version of the PDF on Mac when opend by the PDF shows the links. If Opened in Apple's Pages just opened the links are there. If doing nothing to the pages file and its exported back to Word (or Excel if its an excel file) the made a PDF. all types of links will be hot. If the File from Pages, or exporte to any of the OpenOffice version and aDF is created the PDF works. So iApple is taken out of the equation.  its squarely between MS and Adobe. And Adobe gets along with no one. They are arogant and an island to themselves, cooperating with no one.

  • CS5 table of contents broken links and missing bookmarks

I'm having an issue with the table of contents in a .pdf. I'm working on a 112 page document in InDesign CS5. After exporting the .pdf, I realized that the file would be far too large to upload to the website. I used "reduce file size" in Acrobat Pro to make it smaller and chose the option to make it compatible with Acrobat 5.0 and later. The table of contents worked fine, all bookmarks appeared and links worked but the file was still too big. I did the same thing again but for version 4.0 and later and now the file is an appropriate size but the table of contents doesn't include all of the bookmarks and certain links don't work. Any help is appreciated!

Don't go down to 4. Consider v5 a minimum. I prefer v7 as a minimum. v4 doesn't support smarty features. Generally, the higher the version number, the more clever it is at squeezing file size. But really, the single biggest factor in PDF file size is your choice of how many ppi the bitmap images are sampled down to. Did you try setting them down to 100 ppi, for example?
