Appearance of text/fonts on OS X

What do people think about the appearance of text/fonts on systems running OS X? As a long-time windows user, I find it might take a little getting used to.

Believe it or not, I think the latest FreeType interpreter does better, at least when its hint interpreter is enabled. Letterforms are sharper and yet not blocky.
I should say that when I switched my Linux system from a VGA-driven CRT to a DVI-driven LCD, I had to throw out all my old font settings and start over to get a good subjective result.

  • How do I get specific font to ALWAYS appear in text field whether user has font on computer or not?

I am designing a simple form to be used as template for OTHER people to type up room signs. We would like the signs to be in a specific font that is not generally loaded on the average computer, and we do not want to have to distribute fonts to a gazillion people. My thought was to create a LiveCycle from, whereby the room user could type their name and title in the text fields on the form, and in theory, it would appear in the font I chose for the text field. I have tried various things, but it always gets substituted by the user's computer.
Tried: Choosing "rich text" for field format in Object palette; choosing "Embed fonts" in "Save Options"; tried static form, tried dynamic form.  It could be that my test user has such an old version of Reader that it just CANNOT work.
    Thanks!

The restrictions are listed as "normal." And it does appear as embedded when I go to the document properties, though it didn't until I used it for the text on the form (as apposed to just using in the text fields.) And when another user opens the form, the text appears in the specified font, but once they type in the text field, it defaults to different font.
BTW, it is an Open Type Font, if that makes any difference.

  • Buttons just appearing as text for certain clients until enabled with onClick and enabled

Would anyone know why buttons may disappear for some clients but not others.   I'm not finding a consistent pattern.  When I sign in locally or through vpn they display and behave properly, but when I sign in externally via Chrome or IE 11
sometime the buttons only appear as text other disable buttons that are enabled on click.  I have a laptop with ie11 Win8 and desktop with ie11 win7.   The laptop displays the buttons proper behavior and the desktop does not.
anyone have any ideas.  Someone was working on the server recently and I'm wondering if any IIS setting may cause this problem.  Thanks for help!
    Buttons original state:
    <td><asp:Buttonrunat="server"Text="Print"ID="btnPrint"CssClass="tablerowheader"Enabled="False"/>
    <asp:Buttonrunat="server"Text="Submit"ID="btnSubmit"OnClick="btnSubmit_Click"
    CssClass="tablerowheader"Enabled="False"/></td>
    Buttons action:
    <asp:checkbox runat="server" id="chkSignature" onclick="EnableSubmitButton(this)" text="I Agree" Font-Bold+"true" checked="False">

Solved.  The disabled status was being overwritten as null.

  • How to Change Long Text Font Size

    Hi experts,
I'm working on a standard sapscript form and a standard print program.
In the print program, there's PERFORM LONG_TEXT.
so in my form, the long text appear with other font size and font type.
my question is, how can I change the font size and font type for the long text ?
so that the long text can hv same font size n font type togehter with other text in my sapscript form?
    Please advise, Thank you.

    Hi,
First findout the Paragraph format of the text to wich you need to change font size and font type.
go to the particular window where the font size and type should be changed.
go to text elements of that window(F9)
Then change the editor Goto->Change editor
In the first column give the paragraph format name.
    Activate.

  • Why are step numbers larger than text font?

I just upgraded from RH7 to RH9, I find that when I generate Webhelp, the autonumbers in steps are larger than the font used in the text. This only shows up in the generated output, not the source. Bulleted lists, on the other hand, look fine. Bullet size is commensurate with text font size.

Thanks again, William.  I think that is a good suggestion. However, for some reason, the problem seems to have corrected itself. Several webhelp generations produced the anomoly, so it wasn't just a quirk of one compile. In fact, I think I saw this when using the trial version a month or so ago. Anyway, the only thing I did that might have affected this change is that I changed style sheets to the default for on compile and then switched back to my custom style sheet. Now I am generating ordered lists with the correct font size.
If the problem appears again, the first thing I'll do is try your latest suggestion.
    thanks again.

  • How do i make the text font look similar to that in IE?

The text font with which i have been working on IE is different from the text font used in Firefox. I would like to change my text font settings to the one similar to IE's.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

    1. Click Start, click Control Panel, click Appearance and Themes, and then click Display.
    2. On the Appearance tab, click Effects.
    3. Click to select the Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts check box, and then click ClearType in the list.
Same as Morbus suggested. Do this and the font in Firefox will instantly change as desired.
Its now very easy on the eyes, smooth and looks very good as well.

  • Is there a way to have hardware acceleration without the text font change? + Eye straining firefox!

Is there a way to have hardware acceleration without the text font change? I remember there was a way to go into settings before and getting hardware acceleration to work without the font change. Unfortunately I lost ALL my previous setting when uninstalling the beta ver Nightly and clicking delete settings :(.
Also, I fixed a problem before where firefox was visually eye straining to me, I think it was some settings in anti-alias tuner, but I cant seem to find the right settings that puts less strain on my eyes, anyone know? Thanks ahead. Currently using FF7.

Try to toggle some Boolean gfx.font_rendering prefs on the about:config page to disable some features.<br />
    Filter: gfx
    Others to try:
    * set gfx.direct2d.disabled to true to disable Direct2D
    *Anti-Aliasing Tuner: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/anti-aliasing-tuner/

I have installed the font Broadway on my computer and it works in Microsoft Word but does not appear in the font list in InDesign.  How can I fix this problem?

Start by rebooting the computer. If that doesn't work, search for adobefnt*.lst and delete all instances where * becomes a 2-digit number.

  • Why can I change the callout text font in some documents and not others?

By experimenting I have determined that some documents that will allow me to add callouts also let me change the text font to a different font or font size.  Other documents that will let me add callouts will not allow me to change the text font. A specific example is that I can add callouts and change the callout's font in pdf's I create by printing from Word, but a datasheet I have from a manufacturer I use will allow me to add callouts but not change the callout font.  Why can't I change the font in callouts I add to the datasheet?  I am using Acrobat 9.5.2.  Thanks for the help.

Thanks Bob, I didn't think of that, I suppose that would work.  Basically I would just like to have more text sizes to choose from in the drop down menu, I guess its more an issue of laziness on my part than anything else.  I could make a character style for it, but then I'd probably have 10 different character styles just to change the size of my text when it would be less hassle just to type in the size I need.  I was just looking for a quick fix default option that I was used to having at my old job.

How do i restore my text so that all words are uniform in darkness? Now some letters are fragmented or missing a part of it and see odd characters instead of letters in some sentences.Ive tried different fonts in the Options still the same.Would like to
be able to restore my default settings for text/fonts.Would that eliminate this problem?

Try to set the Boolean pref <b>gfx.font_rendering.directwrite.use_gdi_table_loading</b> to <i>false</i> on the <b>about:config</b> page.
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default via the right-click context menu if they are user set
*Preferences can be changed via the right-click context menu: Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean)

  • Specifying text font in a scroll pane

Below is a fragment of code that attempts to display text in a scroll pane. Basically this works OK, except for the following:
    1. Changing the font doesn't seem to make any difference. I tried "Arial", as shown, and "Curier", the display looks identical in both cases.
    2. Multiple blank spaces are replaced by a single blank space. So that "Baa baa" is displayed as "Baa baa".
I would like to be able to display messages with many lines of text in a scroll pane preserving the format if possible, which relies on the blank spaces. I hope you can suggest how to do this better.
    Thans for you help.

        Font font = new Font("Arial",Font.PLAIN,12);

Please read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. Step 1 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.” While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin. Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)? After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it. *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing. Step 2 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. *Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode. Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Set text font string indicator

    Hi!
Is there a way to change the font in a string indicator?
and is there a font in LabVIEW that has equal spacing for every caracter?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

That means you want to change the font programmatically.
Well... here is a twist..  Typically, this is done using the Caption for the indicator, because it also allow you to be able to change the text (string).
The shortcut way to do this is to:
    1. within the block diagram, right-click the indicator and select create property node
    2. use the selector to choose the Caption > text > font  (It could be Caption.text.font)
Now I do not remember if it is a numeric value that is put in for the font...
Change to Write (right-click on property node and select "Change All to Write"  (simply because my memory is not that good  + no LabVIEW with me)
Then right click on the bottom box, where it displays the Caption.text.font and select create constant.  It should then allow you to select the font.  Otherwise, you can click on the question mark ar the upper right corner (Context Help) which will guide you.  Context Help can also be found under the Help Menu.
    Hope this helps.

  • Text Font

I have an iphone 3S 32GB. Can somebody tell me how to make the text font a little bigger?I find it difficult to read the current text fonts as they are very small - i'm not sure if this is possible as i dont see it in the settings - i only see font size settings for Mails but not for text messages
    Thanks to help.

What that means is that the device was jailbroken to allow it to be used on other networks. iPhones purchased in the US are carrier locked to the AT&T network. If you upgrade the iOS now, your phone revert to its original lock to AT&T.
Another thing to bear in mind is that jailbraking voids your warranty. And furthermore, the warranty can only be excercised in the country of purchase.
