Appearance Palette question

I am absolutely sure that I am doing something wrong here, but please bear with me – I am new to the Appearance palette
See screen shot attached. (the text "Helvetica")
I have created some live text (ie: it remains editable)
I have given it a fill of black and a heavy (7pt) stroke of blue.
I cannot appear to rearrange the stroke so that it falls beneath the fill
I assumed it would simply be question of dragging it below, as one would with the Layers
However, when I converted the text to outlines (in this case the text "UNIVERS") it works.
And also why are the eyes in the first coloumn grayed out when the text is live.
But not so when text is outlined?
Can anyone point me in the right direction with this?

To enable what you want to do you will need to explore the Add New Stroke and Add New Fill in the Apperance panel. The easiest way to do what you want is to select the text and in the Appearance panel choose Add New Stroke. Click-hold on that row in the Appearance panel and drag in below the line that says Contents. You can also play with removing the fill at the character level entirely and then with the Add New Fill you can use a pattern fill for the letters. Remenber that the stroke will be half hidden by the fill.

  • FontAwesome appears as question marks in FrameMaker 12. I installed the font in the Windows/Fonts folder. Do I need to do something else to get it to work in FM?

    I need to update our fonts/templates to Font Awesome. I downloaded and installed the font in the Windows/Fonts folder.
    The font appears as question marks (????) in place of the text in FrameMaker 12.
    The font appears correctly in other applications, such as Microsoft Word and Outlook.
    I tried this with both FontAwesome.otf and fontawesome-webfont.ttf.
    Do I need to do something else to get this font to work in FM?
    Thanks-
    Stephanie

    Well, if it's any consolation, it does the ????? thing (complete with bad font metrics for the question marks) in FM9, too.
    I'm tempted to blame the font, but it could also be that FM is confused by things that shouldn't be where they are. You'll notice that some of the glyphs aren't given descriptive names in Character Palette.
    For example, code points U+0000 through U+001F. Those are supposed to be the C0 Controls in Unicode, and not displayable glyphs.
    http://www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/U0000.pdf
    Ditto for U+0080 through U+009F, which are the C1 Controls:
    http://www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/U0080.pdf
    The glyphs at these code points should either be in standard Unicode positions (where the glyph is covered by Unicode, such as that left pointing triangle at U+0011, which might have been the same thing as defined by Unicode at U+25C0 or 23F4) or in some Private Use area.
    Ask for your money back .

  • Better control object mask in appearance palette

    The Appearance palette could use a better idea to signal the object mask.
    This button can have two states as in the PS.
    1 shows that the object already has a mask, 2. press will add his mask and mini palette displays the parameters of the mask.
    It is worth remembering also that option in the Control palette.
    This solution would also eventually be separated from the Parameter Properties Opacity masks.
    Now it seems that every attribute is his mask? This is not true, that it is misleading.
    Best Regards!

    Shouldn't this depend on what the most reasonable or least surprising behavior of Windows is? I mean, it is fairly common for graphical Windows applications to let you move things either by dragging or by nudging with arrow keys. One could think of this as a part of Windows, rather than a part of programming LabVIEW. This is a philosophical point about user interfaces, but in discussing how a development environment should work, philosophical points about user interfaces are all important. And that is true whether or not at a detailed level it is the designers of Windows or the designers of the LabVIEW environment who are building the feature. In that light, wouldn't the least weird behavior be, when moving a graphical entity from one spot to another, that the method of moving doesn't matter? and ESPECIALLY that it doesn't matter in a way that isn't visible?
    Whether nudging and dragging should have different final results is one question. Whether it is useful to float a control in front of a tabbed control without logically living inside it is another. The two don't have to be linked.
    For that matter, here's a third: altenbach, why IS it useful to float a control in front like that? Could it be a surprising programming trick for which there are unsurprising and untricky alternatives? I don't mean this rhetorically - I really would like to know!

  • Images appear as question marks

    I need help! I just uploaded my first dreamweaver website to
    yahoo. My images appear as question marks. I've uploaded the images
    in file manager along with the index.html. The site looks fine when
    I preview in all browsers from dreamweaver. The files are still in
    the same place on my hard drive and there are no broken links. The
    file names are all lowercase and have no spaces. Please
    help!

    A link to the site always helps!
    Sounds like you may have your images defined something like
    <img src='c:\mysite\images\picture.jpg'> (or similar -
    i don't do it so I can't remember the exact syntax of a file path)
    try
    <img src='images/picture.jpg'>
    Again it would be easier to tell if you posted a link to your
    site.

  • Some math elements appear as question marks in equations - FM9/Win7Pro

    Hello everyone,
    I am facing the issue that some math elements appear as question marks in equations; for example, the summation and angle symbols.
    The approximately equal or the alpha symbols, for example, appear correctly.
    The symbol font is installed.
    System specs:
    FrameMaker 9 with the latest patches installed.
    Windows 7 Professional with the latest updates installed.
    The strange thing is that math elements appear correctly using virtual computers on my computer (Windows XP and Windows 7 Ultimate on VMWare).
    Same maker.ini file and fonts are present on all (real and virtual) computers.
    I have reinstalled FrameMaker already on my real computer (where I have the trouble) and it did not solve the issue.
    I have checked (I think) all question mark related topics (when question marks are displayed instead of the correct characters) on this site, but none of them provided the solution to my problem.
    I would appreciate your help!
    Thanks,
    András

    Hi Sheila,
    Thank you for your response.
    I use Adobe PDF as the default printer on both the real and virtual computers and I do not know the SetPrint utility.
    I see the question marks appear in the FM files as well as in the printed PDF. It makes me think it is not a printing issue.
    c:\windows\fonts is provided as the Font Source in the Embedding box for the Adobe PDF printer both on my real computer and my virtual one.
    The SymbolMT font is listed in both cases in the Embedding box, which is (probably) referred to as Symbol Regular when I open the c:\windows\fonts folder using Windows Explorer. No other symbol fonts seem to be installed in this folder. I do not know how to check what other folders FM considers.
    By the way, I can insert the summation character, for example, as a simple character using the Equations editor correctly, the problem comes when I try to insert it as a math element.
    I have attached an example screenshot.
    Thanks,
    András

  • Mail with French / Spanish accented characters appear as Question marks

    Hi
    I am facing issues in mails that have French / Spanish accented characters in mail subject.Accented characters appear as Question marks (?) when received in the inbox.Mail subject is read from properties file.
    Please let me know the following
    - Should I have the entries in properties file in Unicode ? For example French accent character  is represented as &#225;
    - Should I replace msg.setSubject(subject); to msg.setSubject(subject,"UTF-8");
    Please suggest.
    Below is code snippet :
         Session session = getSession();
                   // create a message
                   Message msg = new MimeMessage(session);
                   // set the from and to address
                   InternetAddress addressFrom = new InternetAddress(from);
                   InternetAddress[] addressTo = new InternetAddress[recipients.length];
                   for (int i = 0; i < recipients.length; i++)
                        addressTo[i] = new InternetAddress(recipients);
                   msg.setFrom(addressFrom);
                   msg.setRecipients(Message.RecipientType.TO, addressTo);
                   msg.setSentDate(new Date());
    *               msg.setSubject(subject);*
                   MimeMultipart mp = new MimeMultipart("related");

    String subject = "\u00C 9tat de l'inscription en ligne";You need 4 hex digits after \u. You only included 3.
    mailSubject = new String(subject.getBytes(), "UTF-8");
    message.setSubject(MimeUtility.encodeText(mailSubject,"UTF-8", "B"), "UTF-8");Remove the above two lines. You're trying to make
    this much too hard. All you need is:
    message.setSubject(subject, "utf-8");
    Should I use ISO8859_1 as Charset or UTF-8 ?I think the characters you're included are
    representable in iso-8859-1 so you can use
    that.
    I am using Outlook express as my mail client. Do we have to decode it ?No.

  • Relative Values in the Appearance Palette

    The values in the Appearance palette should have an option to be relative. For example, in the Transform Effect, you should be able to specify a Horizontal or Vertical movement based on  a percentage of the height or width of the Object instead of an absolute value of 0.139", for example.

    The relative values are very very much needed functionality. Through the use of effects and the philosophy of the use of applets apperance significantly changed the quality of the work and the capabilities of Illustrator.
    Are there any flammable implement this functionality?

  • Show size of rounded corners in Appearance palette

    Hi,
    I often use the Rounded Corners effect on objects, and I think it would be useful to see the size of the rounded corners in the Appearance palette. That is, it would be nice to see it automatically, without having to click on "Round Corners" to open up the Round Corners dialog box. The strokes tool shows the width of the stroke in the Appearance palette, so why not Rounded Corners?
    Thanks!

    I first tried it in a text frame. Now when I do a 'paste into' in an image frame it seems to work, but now I have an extra frame in my workflow
    Table => text frame => image frame with rounded corners => text frame
    Ideal would be:
    Table => text frame with rounded corners => text frame
    But I am starting to believe that this is not possible in InDesign (since it moves the table in the frame)
    Now I will try to figure out if my Excel links will still survive in InCopy with the image frame option.

  • Appearance Palette in InDesign?

    I was wondering if there is something in InDesign that is the equivalent to the Appearance Palette for InDesign like there is in Illustrator?
    I find that applying the effects and then UN-applying them as I am experimenting for design is super clunky. It would be quicker to be able to delete an applied effect in an appearace palette like you can in Illustrator.
    Any suggestions or work arounds?
    Thanks!

    I actually just found a tip that gets pretty close.
    http://creativementor.com.au/applying-effects-via-drag-and-drop
    The effects palette pretty much does what I need. I can quickly delete an effect & the drag & drop feature is nice too.
    Check it out if interested.

  • Yahoo Mail On iPad - Attachments Appearing As Question Marks

    A relative of mine has a Yahoo! Mail account which she uses for e-mail on her iPad.
    She's had a problem recently that some of the attachments (JPGs) she's received haven't appeared in the Mail app on the iPad. Instead, they've shown up as question marks in boxes.
    Anyone heard of this happening before? What's going wrong?

    Your yahoo password is the same no matter what platform you access it on.
    How are you trying to get at your mail? via the mail app? yahoo app? or via yahoo's mobile site and safari?
    Try going into the settings, safari, passwords and autofill.
    look for the site in question and tap on it. You may need to enter your passcode to access the info, but once you do you can see the password you used for that site.
    On the main page that lists them all, you can see an 'edit' option. Choose that and you shoudl be able to delete the saved password for the site.

  • Tools Palette question

    This is driving me absolutely batty.
    Somehow someone changed a setting on my computer so that every time i click on a tool in my palette, all of the tool options pop open forcing me to choose which tool I would like to use.   It is as if, by default, it is right clicking on the tool, when I do not have my mouse set up for right click capability.
    I looked in EVERY possible window, palette, tool option, preference, everything and I can not for the life of me find the option to turn that off.
    Help!!
    This may be a dumb question, but its making me crazy!

    On my system it now behaves the same way as you have descibed. A single click automatically opens the RANGE of tools available under that tool bar item. CS3 and CS4 and they both seem to behave the same way. I do seem to remember, could be wrong, that at some point in the past you would have to  HOLD the tool down to get the options. Thats why I asked if you had an older version.
    As someone who uses keyboard shortcuts, I don't often find myself accessing the tool bar at all. Isn't it something you can learn to live with?
    forcing me to choose which tool I would like to use.
    No it doesn't FORCE you - a single click will access the last used tool - you are using a mac.

  • Palette question

    Ok, this is one more of those basic skills that I've never mastered. What is the best way to add the drivers to the instr. lib? After extracting the files from the zip file I've got a set of drivers in .llb and the .mnu files in a directory (see the attached folder view) and I can't get them to show up correctly within the functions palette. All I get is the top level icon for the instrument but all of the subpalettes are icons with question marks.
    Help!

    Hi denslen,
    I was able to download a similar chr6320x driver, run the setup.exe, let the NI Installer use its recommended settings, and view the driver in my functions palette. I didn't actively extract any files or move them around.
    Try running the setup.exe that you can download from the NI website, then search your functions palette for chr6320x. Any of the installed VIs will show up there.

  • History palette question

    If I refine a tif (selective noise reduction, edge sharpening, localized color saturation or desaturation for example), then save as jpg, the history palette appears to lose the record of my work on the tif prior to saving as jpg. When someone opens the jpg, can they view the steps I took to modify the tif prior to saving to a new file type (usually jpg in my case)?

    You can sent them or give them access to your log files with a network share. Again the log files are only for referencing you can do do anything with then. ACR Raw setting are a ACR thing not part of Photoshop history. Your ACR setting for your RAW file are save in many places. Other users can see the setting the ACR setting you use in your image files metadata if you do not strip the meta data. Use Photoshop menu File>Info the use the RAW TAB. like this
