Append data in ODS
Hey Folks,
I load data into an ODS, weekly. The data contains status information of a product.
The source system delivers only data where the status has changed.
If the status for on product is constant over two or more weeks, I get no record of this product for the current week. But I want to display the status for this product in the current week.
So I need to insert records in my ODS for all products where I don't get a record from the source system for the current week.
I got the information that I need a start routine and implement my logic with ABAP
There are any other ways, or can somebody explain me, how to do this with ABAP?
Thanks for your help!
Stephan
Hi Stephan,
Please try this logic.
Load the transaction data for the ODS weekly as per you source sytem data.
Now you need to update based on constant status. You can write a ABAP program with the below logic.
Create internal tables for Master Data and ODS and read all the contents into it.
Get the details from Master Data and manually update the status field (No data from source system)and store it in a internal table (Internal table - Same strcuture as that of active records table /BIC/AZ***)which has records to be appended to the ODS.
Append it to the active records table of the ODS.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Srinivas.

Start Routine: delete some data in ODS
Hi,
I need some help. I have the following business requirement:
1. I have an ODS with some data
2. When I upload these ODS I need this behavior: the routine shoud see which data is in the datapackage that was upload to PSA (for instante field Z data A), and if in ODS this field Z had the data A then this data in ODS should be deleted.
I had tried the following code:
Data: itab type table of /BIC/AZGDOS*****.
DATA: work_area like line of itab.
data: WA_SOURCE like line of SOURCE_PACKAGE.
data: z_tabix type sy-tabix.
LOOP AT SOURCE_PACKAGE into wa_source.
z_tabix = sy-tabix.
select single * from /BIC/AZGDOS***** into work_Area where
/BIC/Z******** = wa_source-/BIC/Z********.
if sy-subrc = 0.
move-corresponding /BIC/AZGDOS***** to work_area.
append work_area into itab.
ENDIF.
ENDLOOP.
delete /BIC/AZGDOS***** from table itab.
if sy-subrc eq 0.
commit work.
endif..
But this code isn't working.
suggestions?
Thanks in advanceTry it:
Data: itab type table of /BIC/AZGDOS*****.
DATA: work_area like line of itab.
data: WA_SOURCE like line of SOURCE_PACKAGE.
data: z_tabix type sy-tabix.
LOOP AT SOURCE_PACKAGE into wa_source.

select single * from /BIC/AZGDOS***** into work_Area where
/BIC/Z******** = wa_source-/BIC/Z********.
if sy-subrc = 0.
move-corresponding /BIC/AZGDOS***** to work_area. ERROR,delete it
append work_area into itab.
ENDIF.
ENDLOOP.
delete /BIC/AZGDOS***** from table itab.
commit work and wait.

How can we append data in existing flat file
how can we append data to a existing flat file (Text file).
just fill the itab from data which suppose to append to text file.than read text file from GUI_UPLOAD and loop on itab and with the use of read statements you may append the data.

Kindly let me know the steps for activating the ODS,
right click on the ods and press activate data n ods
or before i have to do Update ods in data target.
Raj1ST we have to go for ODS in Data target and right click on the ODS.
In that options click on Generate Export Data Source.Then go to Source system to identify the Data Source.
It will starts with 8 later What everyou had given the ODS name you have to give in Search.
Later you have to create infopackage for that ODS and load data in to that IP.
next come to Data Target and create the new ODS.
Give the update rules with the data source what ever you had created now.
later you have to create info Package for that ODS and load the data for that IP.
Hope it will helps you.......... -
Hi
I have got one ODS, for which my infopackage is desigen as do not update data if no master data exists for a characteristic.
But one of my request which is having only the entries in master data, is not getting activated in ODS.Its failing with the error "No SID found for value '00DU023R ' of characteristic 0MATERIAL". but the material 00DU023R is not there in the request at all.
Doest anyone phased this scenario before? how to activate the data in ODS?
Regards
SriramHi Sriram,
What SSree is trying to see.
Go to your ODS, right click manage.
In the requests tab, choose a very old date and choose refresh. Now check if you see any red requests. These requests will prevent from activating.
On the other hand, when I see your first error, I would go to transaction RSRV, and do some consistency checks on your ODS and master data.
kr,

Hi Friends,
I dont see any data in my ODS, My loading went fine, then I went to my ODS , Right click > Activate data in ODS , what must be the problem??
thanks in advance,ODS >Context Menu>Manage
Go to content tab, check the tables (active, new). It should be in one of the tables.
Is activation over? -
HI Kudos!
Please let me know the methods of deleting the data in ODS of all the tables before and after activation. Let me know if any blogs are there.
thanks in advance.
kalyan Pidugu.Hi Kalyan,
As Malli mentioned those are the ways you can delete the data...again it depends on the update mode used for data loads. If it is a delta load from R3 make sure u mark it as red before deleting so you dont loose data from subsequent deltas.
if it is full update and if u wish to delete it u can simply delete it coz BW will mark it as red.
What is it do u want to know abt activation?
Assign points if useful

Hello,
I am trying to load data from r/3 into the ODS.
When i check in the monitor its saying that
07:37:12 ( 549741 from 549741 Records )
But its not turning green.Its still yellow.
I checked the new data in the ODS. The number of entries in it is 0.Hi
You can view the data in ODS only after the status is green.
Check if it is showing any error in the description.
If not then wait for some time. we can't do anything as is it showing yellow(in process) status
Cheers

Regards,
VikramHi Vikram,
If we right click ODS --> go to Manage --> contents Tab
You will find three Tables
1. New Table : when you load Data initially it gets into New Table and if you click on that you can see the Content
2. Active and Change Log : when you Activate data in ODS the Data moves from new to active and change log Tables and used for futher processsing to other Data Targets like Cube or ODs again.
Change Log Table records all the changes happend to the data.
Check this blog for more info

Errors when loading data to ODS
Hi,
I am getting the following dump when loading data to ODS
whta might be the problem
Runtime Error MESSAGE_TYPE_X
Date and Time 29.09.2006 14:26:52
ShrtText
The current application triggered a termination with a short dump.
What happened?
The current application program detected a situation which really
should not occur. Therefore, a termination with a short dump was
triggered on purpose by the key word MESSAGE (type X).
What can you do?
Print out the error message (using the "Print" function)
and make a note of the actions and input that caused the
error.
To resolve the problem, contact your SAP system administrator.
You can use transaction ST22 (ABAP Dump Analysis) to view and administer
termination messages, especially those beyond their normal deletion
date.
is especially useful if you want to keep a particular message.

How to correct the error
Probably the only way to eliminate the error is to correct the program.
You may able to find an interim solution to the problem
in the SAP note system. If you have access to the note system yourself,
use the following search criteria:
"MESSAGE_TYPE_X" C
"SAPLSDCL" or "LSDCLF00"
"INTERNAL_ERROR"
If you cannot solve the problem yourself and you wish to send
an error message to SAP, include the following documents:
1. A printout of the problem description (short dump)
To obtain this, select in the current display "System->List->
Save->Local File (unconverted)".
2. A suitable printout of the system log
To obtain this, call the system log through transaction SM21.
Limit the time interval to 10 minutes before and 5 minutes
after the short dump. In the display, then select the function
"System->List->Save->Local File (unconverted)".
3. If the programs are your own programs or modified SAP programs,
supply the source code.
To do this, select the Editor function "Further Utilities->
Upload/Download->Download".
4. Details regarding the conditions under which the error occurred
or which actions and input led to the error.

Appending data in file ?
Hi,
I have a question. I'm trying to append data in a file. But it is not ? I don't know why it is not appending. Can you please look at my code.
Here what am i doing that calling different methods in the child class from parent class by giving different options. Here i'm giving input from the commandline.
here is my sample code
import java.io.*;
public class AppendFile{
public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException,EOFException
try{
// creating file and appending data
BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in));
PrintWriter out = new PrintWriter( new FileWriter("out.txt",true));
ClassA a = new ClassA(out);
for(;;)
System.out.println("Enter no :");
int number = Integer.parseInt(in.readLine());
out.println(" ENTER NUMBER FROM CATALOG : "+number);
if ( number == 1)
a.method1(); // calling ClassA - method1
}else if( number == 2)
a.method2(); // calling ClassA - method2
}else
System.exit(-1);
out.close(); // closing PrintWriter out
}catch(EOFException eofe)
System.out.println(" "+eofe);
catch(IOException ioe)
System.out.println(" "+ioe);
// child class
class ClassA{
PrintWriter out;
public ClassA(PrintWriter out1)
out = out1;
public void method1()
System.out.println(" ClassA- method1");
out.println(" ClassA- method1");
public void method2()
System.out.println(" ClassA- method2");
out.println(" ClassA- method2");
}Can you please look at code and give suggestions to me.
Thank you,
-balajiYou should try your own code.
Here is an example that could work, with minor changes on your original code above.
import java.io.*;
public class AppendFile{
public static void main(String[] args){
BufferedReader in=null;

How to extract data from ODS to non-SAP system
Hi,
Can anybody tell me, step by step, how to extract data from ODS to a non-SAP system?
Is it possible to do it without programming effort? And is there volume limits for this kind of extraction?
The non-SAP system is an unix system.
Thanks in advance
EllaElla,
You can look at it from the concept of a BADI / Infospoke
Extract the data from the ODS to a Flat file / RDBMS using an infospoke. I am not sure as to how the infospoke loads data into the RDBMS ( did it very long ago ) but then you can push it into an RDBMS and I am sure it will be system neutral.
Hope this helps...
Arun
