Appending Outlook safe senders list via GPO

I am trying to append a known safe email address to my list of 'Safe Senders' in Outlook 2007 and 2010.
In our GPO I went into the ADM file for Office 2010, edited the Options > Preferences > Junk Email > Specify path to safe senders list
In there I put the UNC of our server which would be similar to \\comboi\home$\admin\SafeSenders.txt
But when I get my new policy, and then start Outlook the email address isn't added.......could it be a permission issue on the admin folder?  What would it need to be set as?
Has anyone done this and maybe offer a direction to look in?  Or if you know what it is, that would be great! :)
Thanks

Hi,
Here are the steps to publish a safe senders list through group policy. The first two steps are not required, but recommend for this solution.
1) Set expectations that even after implementing this policy, you cannot guarantee that the issue will never happen again.
2) Allow domain.com through any centralized spam filtering systems.
3) Create a .txt file that stores a list of safe senders (domains or addresses) each on a new line
4) Save the .txt file to a file share that is accessible by all clients. I put it on \\DC\Netlogon
5) Add the Office 2010 Administrative Template (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=64b837b6-0aa0-4c07-bc34-bec3990a7956&displaylang=en)
to group policy.
6) Create a new GPO for customizing Outlook or Office.
7) In the GPO go to User Configuration>Policies>Administrative Templates>Microsoft Office Outlook 2010> Options > Preferences > Junk Email
8) Open Specify path to Safe Senders list
9) Set this policy to enabled and specify that path to the .txt file you saved in step 4.
10) Now, here was the catch. This setting indeed tells Outlook where to locate the import file. It does not, however, tell Outlook to actually go import the file. This is done through a registry key. So in the same GPO navigate to User Configuration>Preferences>Windows
Settings>Registry
11) Right Click Registry and select New Registry Item.
12) Set the properties to the following:
Action: Update
Hive: HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Key Path:Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Options\Mail
Value Name: JunkMailImportLists
Value Type: REG_DWORD
Value Data:1
Base: Decimal
Apply the group policy, and the next time GP is updated on the client and Outlook is restarted, the safe sender list will be imported.
Hope it helps.

  • Outlook Safe Senders list misses random emails.

    Hi There,
I am experiencing a strange issue with the Outlook safe list in our environment.
We use a GPO to enforce a global Safe Senders list, and set a GPO to push out the required registry key to ensure that list is imported into users Outlook 2010 Client.
The problem we are experiencing is that email addresses specified in the safe senders list are occasionally being put in the Junk E-mail folder.
To reproduce the issue I set myself up with a subscription from our SharePoint server that emailed me a report every 15 minutes. The fromaddress was
[email protected] . This address is in the safe senders list as verified when I check in Outlook. Throughout the day 90% of these emails will arrive in my inbox. 10% will go into the Junk mailbox..
It's got me stumped, does anyone have any ideas?

  • Safe senders list

we started to notice that our safe senders list was getting filled up, we would remove everything and then in a couple days we would see new ones getting added. Yes we do have company group policies that do add some but these are not those, and we do not
have the "add people I email to safe sender list" checked.
    Any ideas?

The same ones keep showing as junk no matter how many time I click not junk.  I also get a lot of email in the day so it is hard to check all of them.  I was just hoping there was a easy way.  I just don't want my contact list to get overloaded by added all of the email from stores and stuff.

  • Question on safe senders list on internet email

Hi, I am having problems in that I don't seem to be able to add certain safe email addresses to my on-line emal account.  I can add them okay in Outlook but that doesn't seem to work when I check my email on-line.  Anybody out there experienced the same problem?  If so, how did you solve it?

What error are you getting? Does this address have a non-standard domain?

  • WHERE is my Safe Senders list gone????

Yes, it is actually GONE, KAPUT, NOT THERE ANYMORE!!!
I never deleted it. Also trying to set it back up again gives a so slooooooooow response which ends in 'an error has occured' PAB_ERROR_3037
The rules were totally ignored as proven by sending myself an email with loads of the 'rules' key words in. And guess where it went? Yes the INBOX!!!
Personally I cannot trust this email system anymore. There are several emails which I am meant to have received that simply have never arrived.
Pointless to say to me'use and email client'. That defeats the purose as it has still to use the BT system.............which is 'cluncky' unreliable and frankly not fit for purpose.
Have to find a reliable email system now from someone else.

  • Exchange - Outlook filter Safe Senders

Person uses ‘safe list only’ in their junk email options (outlook 2010). Has over 2000 contacts and obviously checks the box of ‘also trust e-mail from my contacts’ along with a large list of ‘trusted’ and ‘blocked’ senders.  According to Microsoft
there’s a 510KB limit for all email lists.
There’s an address that he has in his safe senders list, however they’re still going to the ‘junk’ email folder as opposed to hitting the inbox.  I looked in OWA to check the block/allow section and that specific address isn’t listed as a safe sender
there.  Tried adding it and get a ‘Junk e-mail validation error:
'[email protected]’ and it doesn’t save the list.
Decided to try wiping out all the addresses, and setting the filter to ‘low’ and  manually add them to blocked senders as they come in.  Did that from outlook, however when I log into OWA, it’s still showing those lists as being blocked.
When I try selecting ‘don’t move email to my junk folder’ and save it, that same email validation error pops up.  Strange why it’s not updating this through OWA, but when in outlook all the settings are wiped out.  Any ideas?
I've tried changing the MaxSafeSenders from the default to over 5000 for that specific address in EMC.

    Hi,
Are you able to add any other Address to safe sender in OWA? if not, Please try and post the the result.
Is "trust e-mail from my Contacts" checked in Outlook or OWA? If so, uncheck it and try again.
Did you use the below cmdlet and checked
    "set-mailbox [email protected] -MaxSafeSenders 5024"

  • Spam and Safe Senders etc

    It does NOT work.
Continually I am having to go through the spam box and remove and mark yet again messages that are safe senders though clearly setup as a safe sender.
It simply is not possible to make enough blocked senders by blocking a user. Tomorrow simply brings even more from the same blocked senders. Done it, been there, simply doesnot work.
In all, the mail system is a very huge step BACKWARDS from Yahoo.

    Hi Cherkhan,
Although we have a number of measures in place to detect and manage spam, we also rely on our customers to tell us what they don't want to receive. We base a sender's reputation on what our customers tell us about the messages they receive.
After moving to BT Mail you may notice some changes to how your email messages are managed. Email messages you would normally expect to see in your Inbox may be missing. You may also receive spam in your Inbox. We're sorry about any problems this causes during this transition period, and suggest you follow the advice below:
If you appear to be missing emails or have not received an email you were expecting, you first need to check the Spam folder. If the email is there, remember you need to mark it as Not Spam. Likewise if you are now receiving email into your Inbox that is Spam, remember you need to mark it as such.
If you have previously marked emails from a particular sender as spam but continue to receive emails from them they should try Blocking the Sender. Advice on how to do this can be found by clicking the Help link within BT Mail.
You can also add senders to their Safe Senders list and this will ensure that emails received from this source are delivered to their Inbox or a folder of their choice. Again advice on how to do this can be found by clicking the Help link within BT Mail.
If you find missing emails in the Spam folder, you can select the Not spam button, or alternatively you can drag and drop the email message back into your Inbox
Further advice can be found at BT Mail: What is spam and how do I stop spam emails?

  • Outlook Express is adding MY email address to Blocked Senders List

I've been getting a TON of similar spam recently (15-20)/day so I've been adding all their quite similar email addresses to the Blocked Senders List in an attempt to block
some spam. Yesterday I realized that some bcc emails I had sent to myself weren't in my Inbox. I found them in Deleted Items and I then found my email address on my own BSL. I un-blocked it and thought that would end it. Within hours, emails from myself
were again being sent to Deleted Items. I quickly scanned the BSL and didn't find my address there......... What is going on?

    Hi,
Are you using Outlook Express or Microsoft Outlook?
Please note, Outlook Express is a component of IE 6.0 and fewer people use it anymore in the new century:
    Microsoft Outlook Express Support
    http://support.microsoft.com/ph/2578
If you are using Microsoft Outlook, please let me know your Outlook version and what the account type is. Exchange, IMAP, or POP3?
We may logon the Web mail to send the test email, to determine if it's Outlook Client specific.
If emails sent to yourself on web don't get moved to Deleted Items while emails sent on Outlook Client do, please disable the firewall and virus scanner integration with Outlook, then check the result:
    http://www.msoutlook.info/question/20
Please also check if you have any rules that moves your emails to Deleted Items, delete it if there is:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-in/outlook-help/manage-email-messages-by-using-rules-HA010355682.aspx
We can also check the Junk E-mail Options:
Go to HOME tab -> Junk -> Junk E-mail Options
-> Safe Senders tab, add yourself to the safe sender list, then check the result.
    Hope this helps.

  • Outlook "Safe Lists Only" Occasionally Fails to Block

I'm not getting any help at answers.microsoft.com [see http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2013_release-outlook/outlook-safe-lists-only-suddenly-fails-to-block/60453019-acd6-45a1-b426-fe44e998e1b2?tm=1406134845058], so I thought I'd try
    here:
Recently, beginning in July 2014, occasional spam has started leaking through my Safe-Lists-Only junk email filter and appearing in my Inbox in Outlook 2013 (Click-and-Run Office OEM installation on a new Lenovo W530, no Exchange or other server, just a
stand-alone POP3-email-only installation on a single computer under Windows 7 SP1).  These senders are not in my Contacts, Safe Senders, or Safe Recipients lists.  Below is the header from the most recent example [with my e-mail address edited out].
(More can be found in the above-quoted thread.)
Further, although right-click/Junk/Block Sender does move these messages to the Junk folder, it does **not** add their addresses to the Blocked Senders list.
On the other hand, legitimate e-mail from senders not yet in my Contacts **do** get routed to the Junk folder, until I mark them as Not Junk, as they should.  Thus the filter basically appears to be working.
I have Microsoft Updates set to Automatic, I have MSE installed and up to date, and I occasionally do a deep scan with both MSE and MalwareBytes, but no malware has been found.  It appears that some of the "bad guys" have figured out a way
to kid Outlook 2013 into thinking that their messages are on one of my Safe Lists.  Has anybody else seen this behavior?  Any suggestions how to fix it? -- JCW2

Melon Chen -- Thanks for taking an interest in my problem.  It's early to be sure yet, but the change that you suggest was made yesterday, as indicated in that other thread you mentioned, and does seem to be helping:
    1) Checking my short list of previous illegitimate spam messages (that went to my Inbox), I see that they are all from one of my non-default accounts for which the Junk options turned out not to have been configured.
    2) Having configured all my accounts to "Safe Lists Only," I received one more similar message this morning that DID go into the Junk folder!  Maybe this was indeed the problem.

  • TS3899 Email safe senders going to junk folder

How to stop safe senders from going to the junk folder?

  • Changing default picture viewer via GPO without changing image type and icon (Windows 7)

    Hello,
I am trying to change the default picture viewer for some file extensions (.bmp, .jpeg, .png and .tiff). Actually Windows Photo Viewer is the default viewer and we need to replace it with Microsoft Office Picture Manager.
I managed to do that change via GPO using the 'open with' preference under User Configuration\ Preferences\Control Panel Settings\Folder Options. So now the files are opened with Microsoft Office Picture Manager (office 2010). The problem is that the image
type became 'OIS.EXE' for all the specified file extensions. Moreover the icon is now the same (Microsoft Office 2010).
When I change manually the associated program for a file extension, the icon change but no the image type... this is different using GPO.
Is there a solution in order to change the default program but keeping the image type and associated icon ?
I tried to do that modification using the 'new file type' preference under Computer Configuration\Preferences\Control Panel Settings\Folder Options. I specified the 'open' action for OIS.exe, selected file extension BMP with associated class 'Bitmap Image'.
It solves the problem for image type, Microsoft Office Picture Manager opens the files ... but I have to specify the icon file path and icon index and I don't know where I can find the default icons for the file extensions ...
What is the best solution ? Am I right ? Am I doing something wrong ?
    Thank you in advance !

    Hello,
thank you very much for your answers.
For the rollback, I will reimport the original/default keys for all the image types, this should be ok.
Here are the problems I have trying to pu Microsoft Office Picture Manager as default picture viewer (I just want  .bmp, .jpg ... files to be opened with Microsoft Office Picture Manager by default).
1 Using new file type under Computer Configuration\Preferences\Control Panel Settings\folder options. : I define a new file type (BMP for example), associated class Bitmap Image, I configure the icon (imageres.dll,65) and an open action where OIS.EXE
is the application used to perform the action.
Result : Icon is correct, file type is correct, image files are opened with OIS.EXE (correct) ... BUT now Microsoft Office 2010 appears twice in open or open with menu
2 Using new open with under User configuration\Preferences\Control Panel Settings\Folder Options : new open with preference, action (update or replace same result), file extension BMP, associated program (path to OIS.EXE), i check set as default.
Result : Office 2010 opens image files (correct) but icon is Office 2010 one and the file type is now 'OIS.EXE' for all image file extensions I have specified ... so it won't be possible to sort the file by image type if I select that method...
3 Using ftype : OIS.EXE doesn't open the file when I double click on it but Microsoft Office 2010 appears twice in the open or open with list ...
I am a bit lost ... what is the best method to put Microsoft Office Picture Manager as default picture viewer, keeping the image type (Bitmap image, JPEG image etc) and without having Microsoft Office 2010 twice in the open or open with list ??
Last question : by default an image file is opened and previewed with Windows Photo viewer and edited with Paint. I would like just to open images with Office 2010 but keep Windows Photo viewer for preview and Paint for edit ... Is it possible ??
Thank you in advance for any help and support !!

  • ActiveX UAC and Proxy Settings via GPO

    Hi there,
    Wondering if anyone can help.
I am experiencing the following issue when trying to load ActiveX control without UAC prompts for standard users.
    I have:
Configured ActiveXInstaller Service and configured allowed sites and settings via GPO.
Configured IE Security settings for the Trusted Zone to Allow ActiveX content to run via GPO.
Configured IE to use per user proxy settings via GPO.
Allowed the domain in our proxy and bypassed authentication for that domain.
Everything seems to be in place but I receive a UAC prompt for the Internet Explorer Add-on Installer UNLESS I either turn off the IE proxy  settings or add the domain to the IE proxy exclusions list.
Unfortunately neither of these are options in our environment..
    Anything I've missed?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Before going further, what's the operating systems you are using? How did you configure
approved Installation Sites for ActiveX Controls and Active X installation policy for sites in Trusted zones settings?
Regarding how to configure these two settings, we can refer to the following article for double check.
Administering the ActiveX Installer Service in Windows 7
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd631688(v=ws.10).aspx
Besides, we can also run command gpresult/h gpreport.html with admin privileges to collect group policy result report to check if the policy settings are applied correctly.
