Apple AC adapter or other supplier?

My AC Adapter (Apple 661-3048) was getting a little ragged around the edges so I decided to get a backup just in case. Also the elec. prongs aren't making good contact anymore. The one sold by Apple is $79 big ones. Now I've been using adapters for many years and I have never seen one over $50 until now.
After checking the reviews at different suppliers for the same style, I've come to the conclusion that there is a 50-50 chance of disappointment on a new one. After checking several suppliers for price I came across the "ifixit" store. The 1F113-039-1 (Micro Accessories Inc.) is the same 65 wattage and has the same barrel & pin connector and retails for $34.95.
I love my powerbook pro and I wouldn't part with it for all the oil in Iraq. But I won't subject it to expensive borderline equipment. I had the same problem with the super wireless mouse and I went back to a Microsoft mouse at a way lower price.
Service was excellent. I inquired as to what model I should buy, by listing the specs. I had a sales rep. contact me the next day to confirm whether I had the "barrel and pin" connector or the "magnetic" connector. I replied: "barrel & pin". His recommendation was the IF113-039-1. I received it in 3 days, plugged it in and it works great. It also has a one year warranty. I will miss the handy wrap around prongs for the cord. I won't miss the extra extension cord, it was useless anyway. I won't miss the $44 I saved ether.

Perhaps you'd find others in the Powerbook forums who've used third party chargers, in which case that would be a better place to post your question:

The link says nothing about the power requirements. Or the connector for power. You have not provided enough information to answer the question.
Does the PS charge using a USB adapter? In general all devices that are charged using a USB power adapter expect between 4.5 and 5.5 volts (the USB standard). However, they have different current requirements (amps). You can always use an adapter capable of supplying more current than the device requires, but you cannot use one that supplies less. For example, an iPhone 5 requires 1 amp. However, you can use a 2 amp adapter with it.

  • Apple Video Adapter Blew my Inverter and HELP?

I had purchased a few television shows from itunes and wished to watch them on my television. I went to the Apple store today and purchased an Apple Video adapter for Mini-VGA to Video Out M9109G/A. I asked if it was the correct adapter and everyone I asked stated it was. I came home, unplugged my PS2 from my video in on my television, plugged the adapter into my iMac. The video resolution adjusted to something like 800 stretched I took the SAME rca cable used for my PS2 and plugged it into the adapter. A popping noise occured and my screen went black.
Zapped Pram, Started from Install CD 1, Took back off, plugged in adapter, pressed start button and noted that LED 3 was lit. Following the troubleshooting instructions I ordered the replacement inverter.
    Now my problems/questions are this
    1) Why did this happen? I've plugged all kinds of things into that port on the television without question. Should I never use the monitor out w/ the Apple Adapter?
    2) I don't have a backup of my data from friday, saturday, or sunday. I attempted to boot the (screen dead) imac via target mode through my pismo in order to clone the drive out, but it wouldn't appear. Is this normal w/ a 'defective inverter'. Is there any way to get my data? I have another identical model, and I know I CAN exchange the drives (leaving the sensor and the case plugged in so as to avoid any cable problems), but is this a bad idea?
Thanks for any advice on this.
BTW, all components line conditioned w/ UPS.
Well..Apple Palo Alto fixed my machine in one day. I'm very impressed. Unfortunately, I couldn't de-authorize my machine (ITMS) prior to the midplane replacement so now iTunes isn't working since it thinks it is authorized or something. I'm trying here, but any suggestions would be good.
In summary. A) Good people at Apple told me to switch drives to my other imac to backup and this worked fine. B) Repair was completely quickly and machine works.
    C) If you have this situation with authorization: 1) Open terminal, type cd /users/shared then type mv "SC Info" "old_SC Info". 2) Create a new user (I did w/ admin). 3) login to the new user account, launch itunes and try to deauthorize (you should get a message you aren't authorized) so buy a free song and authorize. Login to your original user and try itunes (shoudl work) delete the newer user and you can remove "old_SC Info" or keep it if you so choose.
Hope my rambling is helpful to someone.

On Mac Pro I use my second video out to connect a standard crt vga monitor. When I have it plugged in when I boot, the computer hangs with the blue screen everyone else has, never showing the mac os x loading screen. If I have it unplugged when I boot, everything starts fine but when I plug the vga monitor back in, it does not find the monitor after clicking detect displays. This was all working fine before 10.5, so it has to be an issue with the os communicating with my video card.
I assume this all stems from the same issues you are having. There is a glitch in either the video driver or the new core for video that they have not fixed yet.
I may eventually call on this, but right now, I dont have 2 hours to waste speaking to someone in the Philippines that is reading a script.

  • Apple's Adapter Replacement Program

    Hello,
Im having trouble with my charger works sometimes and sometimes does not. I saw this article about Apple's Adapter Replacement Program (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4127).
I have an L type charger and bought my MBP in 2010. Am I eligible for this replacement?
    Thanks

    It's pretty clear here:
    Resolution
Whether your product is in or out of warranty, you can take your adapter to an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Retail Store for evaluation and replacement if necessary. Pending the results of evaluation, you may or may not be eligible for a replacement adapter free of charge. Signs of accidental damage would negate any coverage. Be sure to bring in the computer used with the adapter; it is required to process potential adapter replacements.

Apple Technical Support. Contact us for local service options.
Apple Retail Store. Set up an appointment with a Genius.

  • Video out after using Apple Video adapter.

Hi, I have an Mac G5 17" iSight and after I mirror'd my screen to my TV using an Apple video adapter (something I've done hundreds of times before) the computer screen wouldn't change back to the general screen resolution (also something it used to do before). After restarting my computer in an atempt to fix the problem the video was all black (nothing at all, i.e no faint glow) but the computer started up correctly and I could interact with it and control it thru remote access from another mac.
Restarting the PRAM did'nt change anything.
But then after reseting the SMU the computer got worse! Now it just powers up and after som or se time the fans start working real hard but nothing else happens. I don't want to keep them running for more than half a minute because I'm afraid the logic board will burn up if it hasn't already.
What could have happend? Is it fixable?
    Please help....

I answered my own question (this is my post after finding the answer in another thread). Hope this helps someone.
Woohoo! Thanks for the post- I have a 5G with the Apple A/V cable, but I couldn't get the video to work, just the audio on the tv. I didn't have "TV Output" selected "On." Now I don't have to return the product. Man, this 5G is amazing.

  • Apple Video Adapter Not Working

    Hi all,
I have completed an update of 10.4.10 to 10.5 on my MacBook C2D without problems.
I just connected my Apple Video Adapter to try out Front Row, and nothing appears on the TV! The icon appears in Displays preference pane, but nothing appears on the TV. I can change the resolution and PAL/NTSC but the TV stays blue. Was working perfectly yesterday.
    Can anyone else try this?

  • Apple VGA Adapter, with iPad 1, OS 4.3 upgrade and Data Projector?

    Hi,
Our school is testing a number of iPads, and I will be buying a iPad 2 on the 25th March. I would like to test my iPad 1 with the Apple VGA Adapter and my data projector in my classroom. (All Apps)
In the past the Apple VGA adapter did not mirror the apps, however the Apple site now has a link to mirror technology with the VGA Adapter.
I could buy the Apple Digital AV Adaptor (HDMI) but would then need to find a HDMI to VGA convertor to connect to my data projector.
I would love to show my students Garage Band on my projector, but need the correct cables.

    Overview: http://store.apple.com/au/product/IPADVGAADP?mco=MTc4MzkwOTA
Use the Apple VGA Adapter to mirror whatever’s on your iPad 2 screen — apps, presentations, websites, and more — on your VGA-equipped TV, display, projector or other compatible display in up to 1080p HD.
Watch slideshows and video on the big screen in up to 720p by connecting your iPad, iPhone 4, or iPod touch (4th generation) to a television, projector, or other VGA-compatible display.
The Apple VGA Adapter connects to your iPad, iPad 2, iPhone 4, iPod touch (4th generation), iPad Dock or Universal Dock via the dock connector and to your projector or display using the VGA adapter.
    What's in the Box
    Apple VGA Adapter

I know this thread isnt that recent but the answer can be found when you look at the VGA adapter product page mention in an earlier post:
"The Apple VGA Adapter mirrors exactly what you see on iPad 2 so that everyone in the room can enjoy it.
The Apple VGA Adapter supports video out (only) for iPad, iPhone 4, or iPod touch (4th generation)."
So there you have it - only video out is supported on the original iPad / iPhone 4 / iPad Touch.

  • Apple Travel Adapter suitable for MBA?

In the Apple Store website, the products listed as suitable for the Apple Travel Adapter Kit includes the MacBook but does not mention the MacBook Air. (The MBA's MagSafe Power Adapter is 45W; the Mac Book's is 60W) Has anyone used any of the Apple adapters with an MBA? I'm going to be in Argentina next February and would like to use mine while there.
    Hope someone can help me!
    Warewolf

The travel adapter kit is only the detachable plugs that you can swap out on your brick. I have used the travel adapter kit appropriate attachments in Europe and UK and it works perfectly. The brick itself is the "converter" for your MBA. The travel adapter kit is just the interchangeable plugheads.

  • Apple VGA adapter not compatible with OS 5 on iPad!

Few months ago I updated my iPad 2 to OS 5. Since then, the Apple VGA Adapter has stopped working and I'm no longer able to mirror the content of my device on my TV (or any other TVs or equipments for that matter). Before the update, with OS 4, it was working perfectly. That's why on my second iPad 2, the one I use for work intensively, I had decided to keep OS 4 so I could use mirroring. As a sales trainer, I really need that particular feature to project presentations, videos and many apps I'm using, on a TV or a screen (through a projector). Yesterday, I eventually decided to upgrade to OS 5 because I wanted to fully use iCloud and also needed to update Pages, Keynotes etc...
Well, now it's impossible to make the Apple VGA Adapter works!! Same iPad, same cable (the expensive one bought at the apple store), same TV, different OS and it no longer works! My conclusion is that Apple deliberately introduced a function that deactivate the VGA cable in OS 5, probably to force people to buy the even more expensive Apple TV. I don't need Apple TV because I'm traveling and simply need to connect my iPad to a projector or a TV and share my screen. I'm not going to travel with an Apple TV box....Don't mention the HDMI cable because most of the equipments I'm using don't have an HDMI port.
I've seen Apple changing a lot those last few years, slowly becoming a greedy and unethical corporation, it's so sad really...I hope that the competitors will come up soon with a product as good as the iPad.
In the meanwhile, if somebody knows how to make the cable work after the OS 5 update I would really appreciate some help! Thanks!

Strange - my two VGA adapters (model A1368, both  purchased in 2010) work just fine on my
    - 5.1.1 iPad 2 AND iPad 3 (mirroring too)
    - 5.1 iPad 1 (video playback only)
    The iPads are not jailbroken.
I've heard stories of component / composite  cables stop working (my "old" component cable works just fine on all these devices) and it's also known the "old" (pre-March) HDMI adapters display a "Not compatible" dialog but they still do  work if you just dismiss the dialog. However, I have never heard stories of the VGA adapter's stopping working. Are you sure it's indeed the VGA adapter?

  • Is the Apple Digital AV Adapter  and the Apple VGA Adapter the same thing

is the Apple Digital AV Adapter  and the Apple VGA Adapter the same thing i want to get a ipad and i want to no if there the same thing before i buy it i would want it for the web for pic but for videos too

VGA is an analog signal, while HDMI is an uncompressed digital image.
The uncompressed digital image is more superior.

  • Apple video adapter

if i buy an apple video adapter to use a tv as a display will I be able to have the ibook closed and still view it onthe tv?

No. Closing the iBook puts it to sleep.
You can, however, almost close it, leaving it open just enough to keep the sleep switch from activating.
Heat is dissipated through the keyboard, so you should never run it while it is closed (if a malfunction should allow it to run that way).

  • Apple VGA adapter for iPhone/iPad flakey

I have the Apple iPhone/iPad vga adapter through the 30 pin dock connector.
Works fine on my my iPad v3.2
Works fine on my wife's iPhone 4 v4.1
Complains incompatible device on my iPhone 4 v4.1
No amount of reboots fix the problem, it appears that one of the two iPhone 4's won't work with the VGA adapter.
Anyone else seen this or have a work around to make an Apple device work with an Apple adapter?
    Thanks
