Apple account set-up question

I have a joint apple account with my son with an old email address as the ID.  We each need to save our music and we both got phones a few months ago.  I want to separate the accounts and update the existing ID.  Can someone give me a step-by-step on how to accomplish this?  We each have apps on our phones, his on iPhone4 and me on 4S.

Hello sweetcara,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are wishing to change the email address that is associated with your Apple ID. The following article outlines how to do so:

  • Apple account set up

My girlfriend's son just received an new iPod Touch for Christmas, and can't set up an account. He keeps getting a message saying that he doesn't meet the minimum age requirement.  But according to other discussions, this has happened to people as old as 50. So what's the problem and what's the solution?

The minimum age is 13.  It appears that once you enter a lower age you can't go back and change it.

  • How to manage 2 different apple accounts on 1 PC.

I have a IPod touch and my wife has a IPhone.  We have separate user accounts set up on my PC.  I did download ITunes onto each user account.  We both have our own Apple accounts set up.  What we would like to do is manage our own accounts.  In other words we don't want to alter either account while syncing.  I want the two accounts totally separate from each other.  My 1st question is can this be done and if so how do I set up ITunes in each user account to make sure we keep the accounts separate.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, and Thank You in advance.

    Hello James,
Thank you for contacting Apple Support Communities.
To set up the second account, you would need to go here: https://appleid.apple.com
Once it has been set up you can go to this link to register the products to the Apple ID. https://supportprofile.apple.com
Registering products to an Apple ID would need to be done separately for each Apple ID.
    Regards,
    Jeff D.

  • I want to make a new Apple account separate from my parent's account, will I be able to keep my previously purchased apps from their account if the files are on my computer?

The title says it all. I use my parent's account for my iTunes on my laptop currently, and I would like to make my own Apple account. My question is if I will still be able to use the applications and games that I downloaded [purchased] while using this computer. All of the files for the apps are on this computer, I'm just not sure if I will be able to put them on my iPod [2G] once I make the account.
    Thanks in advance

You can't delete an account, only iTunes Support can potentially do so, but you would lose all of the account's purchases if they do so - all downloads are tied to the account that downloaded them, they cannot be transferred to another account.
If you do create a new account then there are instructions on this page of how to do so without giving credit card details : Create an iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store account without a credit card or other payment method.

  • HT204053 How do I merge apple accounts under two different email addresses?

I have an apple account set up under my gmail address. When I try to enter it on my phone, it says an apple account already exists for this address. So I created an iCloud email address and now that is on my phone, but I'd like to link up my gmail address too.

    You can't

  • HT5312 I have a new iphone 5c, my apple account is set to an email i no longer use, i cant get past my own security questions, how do i get everything back in order without losing all my stuff?

i have a new iphone 5c and i cant get past the security questions. i made my apple account a while ago with an old email. i created a new apple id with my new email but i dont use it. How do i terminate the account with my new email so i can replace my old email? If i reset my security questions will it delete all my stuff?

You can't delete an iTunes account, but you should be able to change the email address that is on it e.g. by tapping on it in Settings > iTunes & App Store on your phone and logging into it, via the Store > View Account menu option on your computer's iTunes, or via http://appleid.apple.com - you should then be able to put it on your old account.
For your security questions on your old account, if you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) on that account then the steps half-way down this page will give you a reset link on your account : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312
If you don't have a rescue email address or don't have access to that email account (you won't be able to add one or change it until you can answer your questions) then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple in your country to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
When they've been reset you can then use the steps half-way down the HT5312 link above to add or update your rescue email address for potential future use
Resetting an account's security questions shouldn't affect any of the purchases that you've made on the account.

  • How can I set up a separate Apple account from my husband

MMy husband and I set up a joint Apple account years ago. Can he keep that account in tact and can I create a separate one? If so how do I do that?

    Jeremy,
Ten years ago I bought my wife an iPod and set up an iTunes account for her using my name based on the (erroneous) information given me by a salesperson that the name on the iPod and the name on the account had to match, and since I wanted to suprise her by setting it it with some preloaded things, I used my email address and my paypal account.  Fast forward 5000 apps later... I got tired of an email from iTunes for every purchase of every app, magazine, book, renewal ad infinitum, so I told her to log in to the only installed version of iTunes we had (on her computer) and to change the darn email to something else.
The problem that ensued raised its ugly head when many years later, she got a new iPad Air 2 and an iPhone.  Those she set up with her email address, the very same email address she changed the apple id to in iTunes several years ago.  Recently she contacted support because she was not able to log in.  First of all her password was too short (10 years old, nice and easy to remember) and secondly, the date of birth and secret question answer to the original apple id were unknown to her, since they were my credentials, not hers.
Both accounts were irretreveably linked in the most unimaginable ways, and the new password she created for herself on her new devices worked half the the time.
By resetting my password and changing the secret question and removing the billing info (which was my wife's credit card, not mine) I am fairly sure that the two accounts are separate.
The point of this is that it is essential to make sure the second account has NO items, including email addresses, secret questions etc. in common and I also suggest a separate credit card.
Here is the wierdest thing thus far - I am sending this from her computer it has the iTunes installation.  Logging in to her apple id, I see every single purchase "I" ever made prior to June of this year, and if I sign out of her apple id and in as mine there are NO purchases at all.  They all were migrated over.  I did not do this nor did I request it, but all the apps etc. now remain on her account, my account has nothing and I do not use my account at all since I have another one I had to create for my employer issued phone.
What one should not ever do is change the email address on an apple id without realizing that the id is also an email address and the email addressed it was changed to cannot be used to create a new separate account without a major headache.  And many calls to apple.
Hope this helps anyone trying to do this!

  • My Ipod was originally set up as a sub-account of a firends.  After that, I got an Iphone and set up my own Apple account.  I just got a new Ipod, and now can't sync my old Itunes to it. Can anyone help me? I'm even OK with deleting the old Itunes account

My Ipod was originally set up as a sub-account of a firends.  After that, I got an Iphone and set up my own Apple account.  I just got a new Ipod, and now can't sync my old Itunes to it. Can anyone help me? I'm even OK with deleting the old Itunes account, and staring over.  I just really want to get the new Ipod under my own account, and be able to use it...

There is no such thing as a "sub-account."  Also, you probably mean iTunes library, when you say "account."  Your "account" in iTunes is your Apple ID, which is what you use to sign in to the iTunes Store to make purchases.  iPods are associated with an iTunes library, not with an Apple ID (iTunes Store account).  You'll need to clarify...
So, this is what I think you are saying.  You previously shared an iTunes library on a computer with your friend.  Your old iPod was synced to that iTunes library.
You got an iPhone, and at that time, you set up your own iTunes library.  Is that on a different computer?  How does the iPhone affect your question about the iPod?
You got a new iPod.  What is your "old iTunes"?  Is that the iTunes library you shared with your friend?

Hi .. I can not re- set the questions of confidentiality in order to forget the answers in my account

If you aren't getting the reset link on the Password & Security section of your account on http://appleid.apple.com then you don't have a rescue email address (an alternate email address is different), and you won't be able to add one until you can answer your questions - you will have to contact Support in your country to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : Contact Apple for help with Apple ID account security
If your country isn't on that page then try this form and explain and see what they reply with : https://ssl.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html
When they've been reset you can add a rescue email address for potential future use : Manage your Apple ID primary, rescue, alternate, and notification email addresses

  • Backed up using i-cloud now can not restore because security questions are different from apple account?

i just purchased a new i-touch for my son becasue he smashed th old one. I purchased it at the apple store and the tech told me to back info up utilizing i-cloud. I did that inside the store. I am trying to set the i-touch up using the i-cloud backup but when i get to the security question part, the questions are different from my apple account. I then get an error message saying server error. I called apple and they did not seem to be much help.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Contact Apple through iTunes Store Support, and explain that you have forgotten your 3 security questions, that you can reset your password, but doing so doesn't reset your security questions.
Explain that after resetting your password, you are still asked for the answers you have forgotten, before you can gain access to My Apple ID > Manage your account > Password & security, which is where you need to be to change your answers.
Remember, support will receive hundreds, if not thousands of requests per day, some from people trying it on, others with little explanation and others that are written extremely poorly. Take the time to explain your situation properly, be precise and concise, brief but comprehensive.

You need to either reset the rescue email address's password(check the site's help for instructions) or ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include clicking here and picking a method for your country, phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, and filling out and submitting this form.

They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

  • HT204053 I accidentally set up a different Apple account on my iCloud (iPhone 4) and my iTunes for my iPod. How can I now sync the iTunes with my iPhone?

I recently purchased and iPhone 4. In my haste to set it up, I created an iCloud account with a username that is different from the Apple account name I have on my iPod and iTunes account.
How can I sync the two accounts so that I can download my music from my iPod to my iPhone?
