Apple Air Port / BT Wifi issue.

Hi,
I have an ongoing issue with a stretched network.  Once any ipad or phone joins the network from the AP express it can't join the network from the extreme.
The setup is as follows
An airport extreme in my office linked into a 2wire BT router at the other end of the house using solwise ethernet power adapters.
An airport express connected directly to the 2wire BT router in the front room.
Both Airports provide a wireless network with the same name (the express was configured to extend the extreme)
All wireless networking is disabled on the 2wire modem.
DHCP is configured on the 2wire Modem
Both Airport products have static addresses.
      Extreme is set to bridgemode.
If I plug my mac into the extreem I get an IP adress and I am able to get to the internet.  If I unplug my mac book pro and use wifi I get an IP address and I can move between the areas that use the extreme and express (they are too far away to interfere with each other)
However Every Ipod/Ipad/ or Iphone I bring into the house is fine the very first time that I connect it to the extreme however as soon as the device gets near the express it will nolonger join the wireless network and obtain an IP address when it comes back to the rooms that need the extreme for a conection.
Best regards,
Bob

They are both configured with the same sid and password. DHCP is served using the 2wire router.
The AirPorts must use exactly the same wireless security settings as the 2-Wire router. If they don't, you wind up with separate networks, not a network that acts like one big network.
It's easy to match up the SSID and password, but most users have trouble matching up the exact security settings...especially when using products from different manufacturers since they use different names for the same settings.
Do you know the exact security settings that the 2-Wire router is using?
If the network is configured correctly, devices will automatically connect to the access point with the strongest signal as they "roam" around the house.
It's possible that you may have an iPhone or iPad issue, but unlikely that both devices would be acting up.

  • I just bought a new iMac and I am using a apple air port router.  How do I connect mt windows PC to the air port router do I can move files

I Just purchased a 21.5 iMac and connected it to the Internet using a apple air port router.  How do I connect my windows PC to my air port router so I can transfer files.

It makes life easier to install the airport utility for windows.. which has a couple of different apps in it.. if you airport is new type then the utility is too old.. but is still valuable for Bonjour which provides network information for shared devices in the apple world to windows.. and a disk access agent..
It will also help the Apple computer access shared directory in the windows computer.. nowadays this is pretty easy.

  • Is Apple aware of the Wifi issue with the IOS8 upgrade?

Is Apple aware of the WiFi issue with the IOS8 update?  If so, what are the doing about it?

Ipad, wifi stops working and I have to restart my iPad and log in again.  It only stays logged into my wifi for a short while then it drops it again.  I followed instructions from other threads to reset my IPad and my router...still having issues.  The same thing happened the last time I updated my IOS.

  • MacBook Air 11 2014 Wifi Issues After Sleep

I know that people have reported their wifi taking a long time to establish a connection after sleep.  I thought I would test my brand new MacBook Air 11 2014 by closing the lid for several hours to see what happens.  When I opened the lid, the wifi signal was full and not greyed out like other people have reported.  However, my internet was dead.  Could not connect to websites or find my iTunes library on my other Mac.  In order to get it working again I have to switch the wifi off, then back on again.  I'm not 100% sure why I am reporting this as it seems to be a big issue with Mavericks.  Its just the majority have reported the wifi logo being greyed out and taking a long time to find its corresponding network.

  • When is Apple going to fix WiFi issues with OS3.0

Since upgrading to OS3.0 on both my original iPhone and my new 3G S I constant have issues with maintaing strong signal strength with WiFi. In areas of my home where I always had full service I'm lucky to get any at all. I can also be standing right next to my airport device and only get one bar.
Apple, when are you going to acknowledge this problem and fix it???

    Hi
    Here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2044754&start=1080&tstart=0
is the ongoing discussion about this problem with more than 175000 views and 1000 entries, which has been moved around in the forum.
This thread-starters problem is real for many, really many iPhone users - and Apple replaces their phones, although nobody have any official comments from Apple.
My unprofessional guess is that it seem like 3.0 provoked a hardware failure, like overheating or something on the wifi chip, and there seem that there is no going back - your wifi is dead. No upgrade, (and if you did 3.1 there is no down-grade possible) will fix it. Leaving your phone off-off for a while and then restart it, may bring your wifi alive for less than a minute, but after that it fail to detect anything.
There is a feedback center which you can try to contact Apple with the problem, if not, contact your sales-point and get your phone replaced if you are still under warranty.
    Good luck
    Ken.

Jim Level 5 person ....I am very happy for you that your usage will not be affected, please accept my  congratulations.
Now I have to point out that going ballistic has certain connotations but posting on an internet forum is not one of them.
I appear to be one of thousands who are all expressing their outrage in a rational and intelligent manner which cannot be said for your lebvel 4 + collegues on this forum.
Finally there has been an ongoing issue wiith the iPad 3 Wifi on certain wifi only models , I have not encountered it and it seems clear neither have you. That of course does not discount the fact that many others have experienced this issue , an issue which may reveal itself to you or I in the future particularly as I have only been using mine for a fortnight.

  • Air Port Extreme Remote Administration?

Is it possible to administer the Air Port Extreme remotely?
My Linksys router has been doing OK lately, but have been noticing issues like speed latency.  I think this is true not only since another B or G Wifi device connected to the router causing the rest of the speeds to decrease, but also since I moved into a location that has many WiFi hotspots - specifically my condo complex.  My conclusion is buying a dual band wireless router which probablt has a larger WiFi range too.  I am debating on whether or not to buy the Apple Air Port Extreme Base Station or one of the top 3 Linksys E Seriers routers (E2500, E3200, E4200), since I have 2 iPads, an iMac, 2 iPhones, 2 Apple TVs, 2 Windows 7 laptops, 1 Windows XP desktop, XBox 360, Nintendo Wii, and 2 WiFi enablesd Blue Ray Players.  I saw that I was able to access all of the devices with the Air Port Extreme Base Station - great!    Air Port Extreme Base Station works great with all of the Apple devices, stops latency slow WiFi speeds and can have a USB hub attached to allow for a printer, multiple HDs [Time Machine Backups, YAY], etc.  I am leaning towards the Air Port Extreme Base Station, but have two reservations:
    (1) WEB BROWSER: I cannot administer the Air Port Extreme Base Station via a web browser and am forced to install the software and
    (2) REMOTE ADMINISTRATION: I cannot make any changes to the Air Port Extreme Base Station remotely, say if I'm at work, forgot to open a few ports and NAT/PAT, to access my computer.
I would buy the Air Port Extreme Base Station if I can at least get through one of these two reservations.
    Please help.

<Yes, the newer AirPort Extremes running 7.4.1+ firmware, can be administered from a remote location ... of course, you would still require the AirPort Utility to do so.>
I am looking to set up remote access to my Airport Extreme that is running the latest firmware. Can you describe what I need to do to do so?  I do not have a static IP so will have to use something like DynDNS I assume. My needs are pretty simple. From time to time my Airport drops out (I'm guessing after a power outage) and while the Cablevision modem restarts, my Airlort is often left flashing orange. This would be fine except that this is all at a weekend house that is 90 miles away and I need the wifi to be working so that I can access my Nest thermostat as well as my Insteon system for remote light management.

  • Can i use an air port express on the road when im travelling

    Hi
I am going away on hoiladays and wondering if my apple air port express will work if i just plug

It can, but only very slowly since the iPhone power adapter doesn't put out as much current. If you only have room for one adapter, take the iPad adapter.

  • Since downloading maverick cannot tether i4S to my apple air 11" computer

since downloading maverick to my 11" Mac Air, I cannot tether my i4S phone it.  I recently installed a Apple Air Port Time Capsule, also.

You could try creating a USB boot disk and install from there. How-to: http://arstechnica.com/apple/2014/10/how-to-make-your-own-bootable-os-x-10-10-yo semite-usb-install-drive/
I recommend the "The only-slightly-less-easy way" from the article, it's actually easier in my opinion.

I'm relatively new to Mac and want to try and get the most out of the new MacBook Air.
My wife and I have been sharing the same Apple ID. We both have iPhones - she has a 5 and I've got a 4S.
We only have one copy of iTunes and we have been sharing the account. (She doesn't really use the computer for anything beyond writing the odd weekend assignment.)
Would I be better off setting her up with her own and making her as a separate user on the computer? Would this require much work?
In recent times with updates, we have a few problems with the duplication of texts and that sort of thing. Both of our texts are stored on the computer and that sort of thing. Also, sometimes texts I send her are sent through to me  from her, if that makes any sense.
Anyway, I don't really want to overly complicate matters when it comes to accounts etc, but I wanted to know if a fresh Apple ID would be the best thing or even a new user?
Any tips etc would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks in advance

I have this question too (0) Reply

Your question is almost too much a personal one, begging the question "do we (husband and wife) feel comfy sharing one account on the Mac"   maybe thats why nobody answered you.
It doesnt complicate anything, but it adds steps for switching accounts on the Mac/ purchases etc. of course
since your question is mostly personal, ..I wont answer THAT part of it, but creating a new account is easy.....messing with switching back and forth is also a personal preference 'issue' as well.   I prefer to keep things simple, but...........you and yours,  I dont know.......

  • Air port express needed for streaming if I have new apple TV?

I had so far a setup for music streaming where I used an additional airport express station where I have my AV receiver and had this station connected to the receiver. This old air port station is not working anymore and I anyway will change my whole setup now because I will get a new AV receiver with HDMI and I will connect a new apple TV directly to the receiver via HDMI. My question is whether I need to buy and connect also a new airport express station for some music streaming etc or can I with the new setup stream everything I want by using only the appletv (since the appletv supports also wlan)? I don't have at this place a lan cable availavle and also don't want to get one there, therefore I will need a wireless solution.
    Thanks in advance,
    Thomas

You can connect AppleTV to the reciever via HDMI or optical.
AppleTV's HDMI implementation has always been rather fussy and can be incompatible with some HDMI switches/receivers.
One potential issue is reports from some users that if the TV is not displaying the AppleTV output, then it goes to sleep and cannot be used for streaming audio - most of these reports relate to AppleTV connected to TV by HDMI and secondary optical output to receiver.
It may work fine for you but there is such a myriad of AV kit and TVs it's impossible to be sure without testing in a particular combination.
I assume you would use the AppleTV for other features not just audio, else just get an Airport Express.
AppleTV has wi-fi and ethernet connections - apart from the audio output side of things it does not do any of the other things an Express does.
Of note is reports that AppleTV always outputs stereo content as 16bit 48kHz PCM over optical and probably HDMI too.
If you choose AppleTV remember that in addition to using it as an Airport speaker for audio (redubbed Airplay as it now includes video in some instances) pushed from iTunes AppleTV can pull audio files directly from iTunes to play and output using it's onscreen menu system controlled by the physical remote or Apple's Remote app for iPhione/iPad etc.  Do an A/B of both audio streams they will differ - itunes effects will get pushed through Airplay, they're not added when AppleTV directly plays the files (better in my experience when using in a hi-fi setting not compensating for small computer speaker deficiencies).

I bought a Air Port Express device from Apple yesterday.  We decided to set the Air port device in a room near the router to use as a wifi extender to areas of the house where the signal is weak.  In our discussion with Josh, the Apple Rep.  he explained how it can either be connector to the router or use in another room relying on the existing wifi signal to extend it further into the house.  We have verizon DSL.  Our town is very small...no cable provided so we are lucky to have what we have...some areas of our town can't even get what we have.  We, didn't want to connect it directly to the Verizon device (router)....we followed the directions from Josh as well as the explicit directions provided by Apple support...it didn't work. We keep getting an error message.  Does anyone have any advice ?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Please speak in "Laymen's terms"  I am not technically savy....but..am determined to get this set up.  Thanks to anyone, in advance!

In our discussion with Josh, the Apple Rep.  he explained how it can either be connector to the router or use in another room relying on the existing wifi signal to extend it further into the house.
Unfortunately, it appears that Josh was not aware that the AirPort Express can only "extend" a wireless signal from another Apple router.
    From Apple's literature:
Extend an existing Wi-Fi network’s range.
If you already have a wireless network in your home and want to extend its range, AirPort Express can help. Just place it in range of your primary base station — an AirPort Extreme, Time Capsule, or another AirPort Express — and near the area where you want your wireless connection. Launch the easy-to-use AirPort Utility app on your iOS device or Mac, and you’re mere minutes away from long-range Wi-Fi enjoyment.
The AirPort Express is not compatible with a Verizon product for this purpose.
Your might want to have another conversation with Josh to ask his advice on how best to proceed at this point.
If you do decide to keep the AirPort Express, it will be necessary to connect it to your Verizon router using a wired Ethernet cable connection if you want the Express to provide more wireless signal coverage.

  • Air Port Time Capsule, Sonos Play 1, iTunes, Apple TV

    Hi,
I'm looking at purchasing an Air Port Time Capsule 2TB and a Sonos Play 1. I'd like to run all my iTunes from the APTC to the Sonos Play 1 and the films onto my Apple TV. I'd like to do this without having to turn on my macbook pro.
My macbook pro only has a 500gb harddrive and is maxed out for space. Being able to do this would save having to turn on my laptop just to listen to music or watch a film.
Will this be possible or does anybody else have any ideas?
    Help would be appreciated
    Carl

Sonos may be able to play the music but you cannot stream the movie without itunes running. The TC is NOT a media player.. it is a dumb store for files.
With iTunes you have no choice but to run a computer.. but the iTunes can be stored on the TC if you must..
A large USB drive plugged into your laptop is faster, more reliable and can be backed up by Time Machine.. A TC cannot be backed up by Time Machine, it is slow and will have issues with the library and running iTunes.
It can be pressed into duty.. but will never shine.
