  • Wouldn't be a handy update if at the top of the open Pages document, next to the Apple and Pages menu option, it showed the open document name or file name?

Just as the title says, really.

I'm not sure where the Apple and Pages menu option is.  When I'm editing a document in iCloud Beta the name of the document is in the window caption (below).
But your suggestions should be sent directly to Apple and you can do that via the Send Us Feedback button at the top of the document list page:

  • Fruit Menu no longer works; Finder menu disappears & hangs

Since the last security update a few weeks ago, I find a lot of my old software doesn't work anymore.
The symptom is the Finder and Dock stop responding, and the Finder menu bar at the top of the screen disappears.
I have updated Unsanity's Fruit menu extension, but this is no longer reliable. Also some older apps seem to cause Finder/Dock crashes as well.
Specifically I'd like to find a Apple-Menu hack to allow me to put folders etc in there. Are there alternatives to Fruit Menu?
    thanks

First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.
At this point I think you should get Applejack...
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15667/applejack
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 6 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
    Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files! :-)
Disconnect the USB cable from any Uninterruptible Power Supply so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.

  • Radio Mix (and more) menu disappears on Lumia 820 ...

Hi there, I have recently bought a Lumia 820 from T-mobile in Germany. The phone is great except that after a few times use of the nokia music, I could no longer find the menu of Radio mix, song search, so on and so on. All that I have now is "my music" and "settings" (I hope the translation is exact what is expected on the English version). The last time I was listening to the German chart, which is now the only mix radio I can listen to, because I cannot choose the mix without the menu.
The version I am using is 3.6.99.508
    Please help. Thank you!

    Hi nk99
Thank you for posting and welcome to Nokia forum!
The Mix radio is part of the Nokia Music application, it is available for those regions which are offering the Nokia Music services. If you can't find the application that would normally mean these services are not (yet) available to you. Mix radio, Music Store and Gig finder are only available in certain territories.

  • Indesign cs6 menu and tool bar disappear between windows using mission control in mountain lion

heres 2  screen grabs before and after. while navigating between 'spaces' using mission control in mountain lion. issue -  the menu and tools bars disappear - not all of them just parts of them. to get back i hit 'tab' button twice which hides and shows tools. very annoying - does anyone know of a fix or is this another bug which i have to live with. im using a macpro june 2012/running 10.8.4 and 2 screens - left for artboard - right for all tool windows.

thanks steve - yes that works as does using the tab key - all well....until i move to another 'space' and then come back again.
for example: my setup is like this - no2 space has indesign project. no3 space has photoshop. so im working on a page within indesign and i need to edit an image- i double click the pic and it opens in photoshop on the other 'space' save the file and go back to indesign to update pic and find menu/tools all over the place - so hit tab twice back to normal -  until i 'move' out of that space into another - photoshop/ mail/ whatever - as i toggle between spaces the indesign menu will always be 'corrupt' for a better word. hope that makes sense.

  • Photos disappearing from apple tv main menu

I have two apple tvs connected to one itunes via apple n wireless. Works well with the exception that the "photos" selection on the apple tv main menu disappears and i have to unplug the apple tv to get it to come back?? I have enough room on the disk and when i make changes i use the apply function - it still disappears on both apple tv's. By the way i have tons of extra space on one of them as it now has a 120GB drive - very cool.
    Please help

If you connect to your computer in 'Streaming mode' then you will not see the photos menu item as you can't stream photos.
Just make sure that when you want to access your photos that you are using the Apple TV as the source (Go to the main menu, select Settings, then sources and select the Apple TV and not your computer)

  • Flash trapallkeys and context menu issue on Mac

    Hi
Using Flash CS3 and AS2. There seems to be a conflict when trapping all keys and with the context menu on Mac. If I have a Flash movie with a single line of code:
    fscommand("trapallkeys", "true");
When I open the resulting swf in either the standalone Flash Player or if I publish as a Mac projector, when I right-click I get the context menu appear as normal, but none of the menu items work - nothing is triggered and the menu disappears. This is even the case for "Settings..." and "About Flash Player..." items. If I open the swf in a browser or run the movie from the Flash authoring environment, then the context menu works - but of course the fscommand is not run in these circumstances.
I've tried publishing for different Flash Player versions (down to 5!) and running in different Flash Players (a couple of version 9's and the latest version 10).
Has/can anyone get the fscommand to run AND the context menu to work together in the standalone Flash Player or the Mac projector? By the way, this only seems to be an issue on the Mac version - both work together on a Windows machine.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, Mark

    Hello Rohan,
We had the same issues as you described and we're on NW 2004s patch 9.
We applied the OSS note 909314 (as SAP suggested) and those two issues were resolved.
    Thanks,
    Elena.

  • Personal Hotspot menu disappeared after I updated my iPhone to iOS 4.3.3

Personal Hotspot menu disappeared after I updated my iPhone to iOS 4.3.3
My carrier provides tethering service and I used it often so I don't think this is from network problem.
What I remember is that after I upgrade my iPhone to iOS 4.3.3 I once activated personal hotspot function and it was hanged.
So I reboot my iPhone and the menu disappeared. Is this another bug that is from iOS 4.3.3??

What is the exact wording of the error message you received?
Has your iPhone been jailbroken or modified to work with other
    than the original wireless provider?
Not wise to post IMEI or ICCID in the clear, FYI. I have asked
the hosts to edit that info in your post.

  • My Finder menu, HD, and dock all disappeared after I mistakenly downloaded a bogus version of Firefox. How do I get them back?

I think I may have gotten some sort of virus after downloading a "bogus"  Free version of Firefox. I uninstalled Firefox immediately, because I noticed my Macbook was acting strangely, but the next time I turned it on, my HD, Finder menu, and dock were all gone! Basically there is now an empty, blue screen. I have booted in safe mode and deleted preferences, but nothing is working.

. Plus, I didn't download it from the Mozilla website :--(
This probably is the mistake you made.  Many sites that offer application downloads also include adware as an unrequested 'bonus'.  Try AdwareMedic and it should take care of the unwanted ad popups:
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/index.php
If no success, the use the Apple support procedure, which is a lot more complicated:
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203987
The lesson is, always download from the developers web site or from the APP store.  That way no unwanted items will not be included.
    Ciao.

  • I have a MacBook purchased in 2009 with Snow Leopard. I tried to access "special characters" from the Finder menu and an intermittent blank pop ups and will not stop. It also happens when I run Word or Pages.

The blank pop up began as I tried to access "special characters" from the finder menu. I restarted, turned off and restarted and it did not work. It interferes with any application because I cannot work fast. Every new step takes a few seconds longer such as saving, finding text, check spelling and many more. I am desperate to solve this. Thanks in advance for any help given.

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • Can't find Finder and Dock and Desktop has disappeared

I was backing up my MBA (OS 10.6.0) today using Superduper and something strange happened.
My hard drive became corrupted and filled with files (105 GB used and 0 GB available). The HDD capacity is 120GB. About 15GB is bootcamp. The backup failed.
I deleted a few files and freed up 200MB when I realized the hard drive had become full (I had 20GB free space on the Macintosh HD before this).
When I checked Disk Utility it told me my hard drive was corrupted and I should repair it using the operating system disc (Snow Leopard) to start up the computer and then go to Disk utility and perform Repairs.
I did all that and Disk Utility told me the hard drive was OK after the repair.
However, when I restart the computer, I get a blue screen. I cannot see the Dock. And Finder cannot be found. When I do Force Quit, there is no Finder in the list.
For some reason even though I do not have a Dock, I was able to get a menu at the top. I don't know what I did to get it. Suddenly I got a message saying I couldn't open iTunes even though I didn't try to open it (the Dock has disappeared). But at least I got some menu at the top.
With the menu I was able to open some items on Recent Items including Firefox.
I went to my email and tried to send some files to the same email address. I was able to browse Finder by doing this and my Desktop seems to be OK. I can open various files by using the browse function in upload files in my email and they all seem OK.
So I know that my Desktop files are intact. I haven't checked them all (I have like 50 files on my desktop) but on a quick look, all the Desktop items appear to be there.
How can I get the Desktop and the Dock back?
How can I get Finder to show up?
I just have a blue screen at the moment.
When I get the Desktop back I want to erase some files and create space.
Somehow the hard drive got filled up when I tried to do a backup using Superduper.

    All resolved.
I attached an external drive to the MBA in an attempt to export Firefox Scrapbook files onto it.
Exporting failed (my fault – I didn't follow the steps correctly) and I ended up having to restart the computer.
Surprisingly the screen opened in bootcamp.
Because there was an external hard drive connected to the computer, I presume this is what prompted the computer to open in bootcamp. Normally I would have to hold down the Option key to open bootcamp but my computer's hard drive had been corrupted so ....
From bootcamp (Windows XP) I restarted the computer, this time holding down the Option key.
I selected the Mac volume as the startup disk.
When it booted, it sputtered a few times and it looked like it was going to open in the blue screen again (I could see the familiar strange things that occur when it opens in the blue screen). However, after a while, it opened with the Desktop screen.
All the icons I had on the Desktop appeared and I had the screen back to normal with Dock and everything there.
I deleted some items (I only had 200MB left) to create some room on the hard drive.
After browsing the web, I came across the reason for why my HD suddenly filled up during the failed back up before things went awry.
    From Pink Mutant
    http://pinkmutant.com/articles/TigerMisc.html
"Failed Backups and the Volumes Folder
Another potential stealer of hard drive space is a failed backup, where the drive the backup was supposed to go to was unavailable, so the backup software simply copied the files into the invisible /Volumes folder. Again, use the Go and Go to Folder menu bar item ....."
This is exactly what happened to me. I found the two volumes, "Untitled" and "Untitled 1" as Pink Mutant said I would in "Go" ("Go to Folder") and I deleted them (I should have backed up my computer before doing this though). Straightaway, 20GB of space came back on my HD.
My computer had copied the backup onto my HD instead of the external HD during the failed backup operation. That's why the internal HD filled up.
So it's a relief that I got the Desktop back again – purely by accident – and I also found what was filling up all the HD space.
So a tip: if someone finds their backup fails for whatever reason, don't try to back up again. Check HD space and if it has suddenly shrunken, go to "Go", and then "Go to Folder", type "/Volumes" and click "Go". That should bring up the offending volumes if any. Move them to Desktop. Check "Get Info" and have a look at the contents if you can (I couldn't). Do a backup of the computer. Then delete the problem volumes (if you find that these volumes are the cause of the problem). You can then delete the same volumes from the backup at this point.

  • Has anyone downloaded Yosemite and found that there are no ore scroll bars? I have to move the window (of any window, Skype window, browser window etc.) in order to find the scroll bar and then it disappears so fast I can't even use it.

Has anyone downloaded Yosemite and found that there are no ore scroll bars? I have to move the window (of any window, Skype window, browser window etc.) in order to find the scroll bar and then it disappears so fast I can't even use it.

Not sure why that was unchecked but good to know!
Apple's new default (since at least a couple of OS releases back) is to have it off so OS X matches the behavior of an iPhone or iPad.
I almost never need a scroll bar, and when I do, I just move over to the edge of the window when scrolling and a larger scroll bar appears.
Yes, for the most part, users don't really need the scroll bar. That's what the scroll wheel on almost all mice is for. Saves the trip over to bar to physically grab and move it. But, I do like it on all the time regardless. That way (especially with a long article) I can just take a quick glance over to the bar to see about where I am on the page (a third of the way down? halfway?). Otherwise, I have to move the page just to make it appear to give me the same information.

  • Apple (Finder) menu do not respond

I make a search but could find anything related to this specific trouble.
It has happen already few time (3) after download or update a soft (QT) Apple/Finder Menu does not respond anymore to function SLEEP, RESTART and SHUT DOWN.
I have repair permission (no result), run ONYX 1.5.3 (no result), Disk Warrior 4.0 (no result), eDrive -TTP 4.1.2- (no result)...
The Mac (almost) never stop or put in sleep to let utilities like Onyx and TTP check/repair automatically on night.
Since I thought it should be a corrupted preference file, I moved on desktop com.apple.finder.plist, com.apple.systemuiserver.plist and restart.
The two first time I did that, Finder was working again normally. But this time not !
I also try disable Application Enhancer 2.0.2 for testing and also kill the finder from Activity Monitor (an advise), through away again com.apple.finder.plist and com.apple.systemuiserver.plist.
At restart, still no response at menu Sleep, start etc...
Any idea what could I try now to solve that ? It's so boring !

    Hi cldjr!
Which of your Macs are you having a problem with? The iMac or the iBook?
What size is the Hard Drive, and how much space is available?
How much RAM is installed, and is it original or added?
By all means, run Repair Permissions, as Dimaxum suggested, which should be run from Disk Utility, located in the Utilities folder, while booted from the Startup Volume, not from the system disc. Instructions posted below.
In addition, if you are able to startup from the system disc, run Repair Disk. Instructions posted below.
If neither of those corrects the problem, reinstalling the 10.3.9 Combo Update, may correct the problem.
When completed, run Repair Permissions once again.
TO REPAIR PERMISSIONS ON THE STARTUP DISK
1.Open Disk Utility, located in Applications/Utilities, and select the startup disk in the left column.
    2.Click First Aid.
3.Click Verify Disk Permissions to test permissions or Repair Disk Permissions to test and repair permissions. (I never "Verify". Just run "Repair".)
Rerun RP until the only messages reported, are listed here Spurious Permissions Errors Using: 10.3.x
When "Repair Permissions" is complete. Quit "Disk Utility".
THESE ARE THE STEPS FOR USING DISK UTILITY TO REPAIR YOUR HD
1.Insert the System Install disk, Mac OS X CD-ROM disk, or Restore DVD disk, then restart the computer while holding the C key. Use the System disk, of the OS, that is currently installed.
2.Once started up from CD or DVD, on the Menubar at the top of the screen, choose Disk Utility from the Installer contextual menu for Panther, or Utilities for Tiger.
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from disc to access Disk Utility.
    3.Click the First Aid tab.
4.Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5.Select your Mac OS X volume, if necessary.
6.Click Repair. If DU reports errors it has fixed, re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported.
7.Repeat steps 5 & 6, but select the Hard Drive this time. It's usually the first listed with the manufacturer's model number. Make note of the S.M.A.R.T. status.
8.When finished, select Quit Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
9.Select Quit Installer from the Installer menu.
10.In the resulting pop-up window, choose restart.
11.After the computer has restarted, you can eject the CD.

Seems that you can no longer hide them on your phone.  Try doing so in iTunes: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4919.
