Apple and updating iPod Touch...

We have 2 ipod touches in our household. On a number of cases, we've had to completely rebuild them due to these types of errors. I hope Apple support sees this error.
We have a 16GB and a 32 GB ipod touch... when it tried to back them up for the update, we received them message that 165 GB on my computer is not suffient space to back up a 32GB ipod touch...
I mean WHAT THE ****?
I have a picture of the error as well...

There seems to be a lot of problems regarding that backup feature. Even when it works, it takes forever to complete and does it everytime you sync.

This is honestly the largest downside to the iPod touch right now and needs to be fixed. I bought the touch on the sole purpose of being able to surf the internet during class and I can't do it. You are just plain wrong on this.
My home network is WEP enabled and I surf just fine on it with my new touch. Perhaps the SPECIFIC network you are trying to access has something funky going on, but it is not factual to state that the touch does not work on security enabled WiFi networks. That is just a factually incorrect statement.

Trying to download 10.6.1 and update Ipod touch

When I plug my Ipod Touch into the computer it says there is an update available for my Ipod. In order to update my Ipod to version 5.1.1 I have to install the new Itues 10.6.1. However, when I try to install the new version of Itunes I get the following message: The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package "iTunes.msi" in the box below.
I have no idea what that means. I just want to update my Ipod and Itunes. Please help!

Also, check your hosts file to verify that it's not blocking iTunes from communicating with the update server. - What was the error message?
- Try closing iTunes and then disconnect the iPod from the computer. Then reconnect the iPod. If the iPod shows in iTunes then you can try again. However, You should try to resolve the error message first.
- If iTunes does not see the iPod try reetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- I recommend that you come back with the what the error message said and the condition of the iPod and if it is visible in iTunes.

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

What happens if you just restore to factory defaults/new iPod (not from backup)?

Well the answer I gave you didn't solve the problem. Is the USB cable and the iTunes logo still on the iPod screen? You could start the "fixing process" by rebooting your computer, connect the iPod again, launch iTunes and see if anything happens.

It's possible that the mystery update was a security patch to address a vulnerabilty in Safari that had been patched months ago in the Mac version. Apple has been taking some flak in the security blogs for letting it go unpatched in the iPhone/iTouch version.

I have my iphone 4 and an ipod touch on the same apple ID. My daughter tried to change the settings on the ipod so that she could facetime on both her ipod and iphone which is on a separate Apple ID. I no longer have a 3G connection.

Changing Facetime settings on an iPod will have no affect on cellular settings on an iPhone. Something else is going on there. If she did not change any settings on the phone, then nothing she did could affect your celluar 3G.

Mail: do not have the same account loaded onto the two devices.
Photos: go into Settings->Photos & Camera->and turn off photo stream.
everything else, sign out of the Apple ID on the device you dont want to be visible.

I am trying to update ipod touch from ios 4.3.2 to ios 6.1.3. I have it connected to my computer, and the summary in itunes indicates the update is available. However, when I click "update", it opens Windows Explorer and waits for a file name to open.

I am not at that computer now, but I did check via windows update & with the check updates menu choice in the itunes program - neither indicated a newer version of itunes is available. (it is a vista computer).
The itunes software on the computer displays my ipod & the current ios (4.3.2), and indicates a newer ios is available (6.1.3). When I choose "update", I am taken to Windows Exploer and prompted to choose a file to open. it is as if the "update" button has the incorrect code attached to it.
The ipod is working, but there are several app I would like to install, but I can't with the current ooperating system.
